WILLIAM ROY JONES JR
William Roy Jones Jr., 71, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006. The memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, October 6, at Beggs Funeral Home Apalachee Chapel in Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Mr. Jones was a native of Bainbridge and had resided in Tallahassee since 1949. He was a veteran of the Air Force, and while in the Air Force he played football. He also played football and track for FSU and had a love for tennis and bike riding. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He was a Baptist at East Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Tripp Jones (and wife Angie) of Tallahassee; three daughters, Deborah Rose Bell, Mary Elizabeth Walker and Karen Criswell (and husband Marty), all of Tallahassee; the daughters’ half brother, John Ashton Kerr of Houston; the mother of his children, Mary Frances Gramling of Monticello; a sister, Jacquelyn Meadors of Baltimore, Maryland; six grandchildren, Riley Bell, Fran, Suzanne and Jake Walker and Kelly and Tucker Criswell; and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roy Jones Sr. and Ona Zula Toole Jones and two sisters, Gloria Richardson and Zula Holland.
THOMAS WHATLEY
Mr. Thomas Whatley, 63, of Kathleen passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Mr. Whatley was born in Donalsonville to the late Mitchell and Margaret Dykes Whatley on October 8, 1942. He served his country in the Air Force and was employed with the Civil Service.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 7, at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Free officiating. Interment followed in the Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Donalsonville.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Opal Alday Whatley of Kathleen; one son, Adrian Lance Whatley of Kathleen; one daughter, Kimberlee Hope Whatley of Kathleen; two brothers, Charles Whatley of Tallahassee, FL, and Danny Whatley of Baingbridge; one sister, Alice Womble of Jakin; one grandson, Gabriel Whatley of Kathleen. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Wilhoft and Jeanette Whatley.

ANNIE BELL WILSON HARRELL
Annie Bell Wilson Harrell, 87, of Bainbridge, died Monday, October 2, 2006, at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge.
Graveside services were held at New Home Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Climax with Rev. Donna Bevels and Rev. Conrad Salter officiating.
Pallbearers were Charles Harrell, Charles Joe McClure, Jimmy John McClure, Harold McClure Jr., and Tommy Edward McClure.
Mrs. Harrell was born March 15, 1919, in Grady County to the late Henry Thomas and Isabelle Sadler Wilson. She lived in Bainbridge, where she was a homemaker and was a member of New Home Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Dean of Bainbridge; one half brother, Billy C. Wilson of Titusville, FL; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Charlie Harrell; one daughter, Julia Bell McClure; and one son, Charles L. (Buddy) Harrell.
JERRY L. WIDNER
Jerry L. Widner, a resident of Donalsonville, Georgia and also of Riverview Forest Estates on Lake Eufaula in Henry County, Alabama, died Monday morning, April 10, 2006, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 59.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. (E. D. T.) Thursday, April 13, 2006, in the Ft. Gaines Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Hines and Reverend Perry Hearn officiating. Burial will follow in the New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, Abbeville, Alabama is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P. M. (C.D.T.) Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville, Alabama. At other times, the family will be at the Lake Eufaula residence, 701 Douglas Drive, Riverview Forest Estates, Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Ft. Gaines Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 248, Ft. Gaines, Ga. 39851.
Mr. Widner was born and reared in the Griggs Community in Miller County, Georgia, between Colquitt and Blakely. He was a 1964 graduate of Miller County High School. Mr. Widner had been employed since 1967 as a mechanic by Georgia Pacific Container Board, Cedar Springs Operation, Cedar Springs, Georgia. He was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher in the Ft. Gaines Baptist Church. He was a former member and Deacon in the Rocky Ridge Baptist Church, near Donalsonville. Mr. Widner was also a member of the 1864 Mechanical Maintenance Union and was an avid bass fisherman and hunter. He had lived in Donalsonville since 1968 and also established a home on Lake Eufaula in 2003. Mr. Widner was preceded in death by his father, William Leslie Widner.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Grace Brooks Widner, a resident of Donalsonville and also Lake Eufaula; a daughter, Michelle Robinett, Marietta, Ga.; a son, Jerry Chris Widner and his wife, Charity Widner, Colquitt, Ga.; his mother, Louvenia Holt Widner, Colquitt, Ga.; a sister, Gail Thompson and her husband, Felix Thompson, Blakely, Ga.; two brothers, Broadus Widner, Juneau, Alaska; Bobby Widner and his wife, Martha Widner, Albany, Ga.; four grandsons, Alex Robinett, Zachary Robinett, Lan Widner and Ridge Widner; special friends, Amanda and Scott Varnum and their children, Mattie, Sadie, Cassie and Hydie Varnum, all of Florala, Alabama; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

DONALD (DON) WAYNE SINGLETARY
Donald (Don) Wayne Singletary
Mr. Donald “Don” Wayne Singletary, 48, passed away April 6, 2006.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern) Monday, April 10, 2006 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel in Bainbridge, with Dr. Kenneth Cloud officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo with Edwin Atkinson, Larry Holtznecht, Felix Tabb, Mark Miller, Jeff Haire, Eric Coldwell, and Rick Morgan serving as active pallbearers. Marcus Singletary, Shawn Singletary, Luke Waldon, Eric Poole, and Jamie Washburn will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Singletary was born on August 5, 1957 in Grady County, GA, the son of Edward Singletary and Shirley Waters Singletary. He and Tina Darley Singletary had been married for seven years.
He was service manager at Pat Sammons Chevrolet and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cairo.
Survivors include wife, Tina Darley Singletary of Colquitt, GA; 4 children, Christie (Robert) Griner, Brinson, Kyle (Courtney) Singletary of Bainbridge, Christina Kitchens of Colquitt and Rusty Darley of Colquitt; a brother, Randy Singletary of Cairo; two sisters, Debra Waldon and Susan Poole, both of Cairo; his parents, Edward and Shirley Singletary of Cairo; and nine grandchildren.

Mary Addie Parker Brigham
Mrs. Mary Addie Parker Brigham, 94, of Donalsonville passed away Friday, July 7, 2006, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.
Mrs. Brigham was born in Decatur County on September 23, 1911, to the late Joseph Jordan and Lucia King Parker. She was married to Willie “Bill” Brigham, who preceded her in death. She graduated from G.S.C.W., now Georgia College, with an A.B. degree in education and taught in the Georgia public schools for 37 years, 32 in Seminole County. She was STAR Teacher in 1966. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist church, teacher of the Addie Brigham Sunday School Class, and a member of United Methodist Women. She belonged to the Woman’s Club and the Retired Teachers’ Association. In 1980, she was chosen as Senior Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. In honor of Mrs. Brigham and Mrs. Ann Smith, the Brigham-Smith Honor Society at Seminole County High School was founded 1981.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Patricia Wilcoxson and her husband Billy, of Dallas, TX, and Kathy Reese and her husband Buddy, of Jakin. She is survived by nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents , her husband, and one daughter, Jan B. Franklin.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Arnold, Bill Burke, Royce Cannington, Mackey Sellers, Brad Clarke, and Larry Hartzog. Honorary pallbearers were the Addie Brigham Sunday School Class and Worker’s Guild Circle.

GENE HAYGOOD
Mr. Gene Haygood, age 65, of Climax died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at his residence.
Mr. Haygood was born August 21, 1940, in Canton. He was a member of Sutton Chapel Methodist Church and was a concrete finisher in construction work.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Roberts officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Carol Naef Haygood; two daughters, Nancy Ledbetter, Weleska, and Ann Johnson; two sons, William E. Haygood and Thomas Luther Haygood, Climax; mother, Nancy Haygood, Jasper; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

ALLIE PARKER MAXWELL
Mrs. Allie Parker Maxwell, age 83 of Donalsonville died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Miller County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Maxwell was born in Seminole County on September 1, 1922 to the late Ben and Hortense Hardwick Parker. She worked in the hospital and during her later years as a private duty nurse.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Barineau officiating. Interment followed in Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Maxwell and his wife, Bessie, and Bobwell, all of Donalsonville; one brother, William Parker and wife, Mildred, Homeland, FL; and one sister, Mary Belvins, Lakeland, FL; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

MILDRED C. 'GRANNY' COBB
Ms. Mildred C. “Granny” Cobb, age 90, of Donalsonville passed away Thursday, July 6, 2006, at St. Marys Hospital in Athens.
Granny Cobb was born in Pansey, AL, on July 26, 1915, to the late Walter Marcus and Callie Jeffcoat Croom. She married Byron Cobb, who preceded her in death. She attended Martha Berry College. She was a devoted mother and homemaker who helped on the farm, operating machinery or whatever was needed. Her hobbies were sewing, cooking, camping, fishing, gardening and a variety of farm projects. She was active in the Methodist church, the Woman’s Society, Sunday School and other church activities, and the Home Demonstration club. She worked with Boy Scout Troop 711, going on camping trips with them and always helping with the cooking; she was a cast member of Cornerstone, produced by Seminole Arts Council. She gave selflessly to her community and felt enriched by her association with youth in the church and school and mission work to Jamacia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville with Rev. David Tart officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Bobbie Jean McKeller and her husband Billy of Athens; two sons , Lamar Cobb and his wife Joan of Donalsonville and Harry Cobb and his wife, Phyllis of Brooklet; one sister, Peggy Wainright of Alexandria, LA; and a very dear sister-in-law Rosemary Croom. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband, and one daughter, Amelia Ann Cobb preceded her in death.
Pall bearers were Mark McKeller, Michael McKeller, Eric Cobb, Jamie Cobb, Jimmy Cobb, Byron Cobb and Mark Earners.

BETTY DAVIS SHINGLER
Mrs. Betty Davis Shingler, age 81, of Atlanta died Monday, July 2, 2006, in Atlanta.
Mrs. Davis was born August 10, 1924, in Montgomery, AL. She grew up in Atlanta graduating from Girls High School. She attended Wesleyan College and graduated from Agnes Scott College. She was married for almost 53 years to Angus J. “Bob” Shingler who preceded her in death.
A memorial services was held Saturday, July 8, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Berks Episcopal Church in Atlanta. Interment of the ashes was held Sunday, July 9, at 4:30 p.m. at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville.
Survivors include one daughter, Julie S. Dunaway and her husband, Judge Roger W., Thomson; two sons, George P. Shingler and his wife, Lois D., and Robert D. Shingler, both of Atlanta; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MARGIE ELIZABETH HEWETT
Ms. Margie Elizabeth Hewett, 72, of Jakin passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Presbyterian Home in Quitman.
Ms. Hewett was born on October 27, 1933, in Decatur County to the late Willie Hewett and Hazel Rodgers Hewett. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 5, at 2:00 P.M. at Bascom United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bascom, FL, with Rev. Douglas Harvey officiating.
Ms. Hewett is survived by nieces, Angie and Danny Nunnery and Terri Lawson, all of Donalsonville; nephews, Hewett and Luann Nunnery of Jakin, Ricky Hewett of Donalsonville, Shane Hewett, Malone, FL, Tim Hewett and Jim Hewett of Marianna, FL, Cebron Nunnery of Tallahassee, FL; great- nephews, Jeff and Dana Nunnery of Bainbridge and Matt and Stephanie Nunnery of Donalsonville.
