Mr. Grady Howard Joiner Sr., 79, of Millen died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005.
His funeral was 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at the West Millen Baptist Church. Burial was in the Millen Cemetery.
Mr. Joiner, a native of Jenkins County, was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Millen United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Owens Joiner; two sons, Frankie M. Joiner and Grady Joiner Jr.; a daughter, Joy Lee Brackin; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of Millen.

Mrs. Hilda McMillan Taylor, 85, of Sylvania died Monday, Feb. 14, at Memorial Medical Center.
Thelma Kent Blashaw, 89, dies March 6 at Raulerson Hospital
Thelma Kent Blashaw, 89, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Raulerson Hospital.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m.Wednesday, March 9, at the Church of Our Savior Episcopal in Okeechobee, with the Father Bill Yates officiating.
She was born June 15, 1915, in Millen. Blashaw had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1957. She and her husband, Robert Bell, were the former owners of Park Drug. A registered nurse, Blashaw served as the school health nurse and public health nurse. She had previously worked for the Florida School for Boys, the Okeechobee Hospital and other hospitals around the lake. She was the first nurse and a charter member for Hospice of Okeechobee; she volunteered as a nurse at the Episcopal Camp Wingmann and was a member of Church of Our Savior Episcopal where she served for many years on the vestry and Altar Guild. She was also a member of Women of the Moose.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Bell and Stanley Blashaw and one sister.
Survivors include: two sons, Kent (Sherry) Bell of Lynchburg, Va. and Jimmy (Ann) Bell of Okeechobee; six sisters, Ethel Kent Marling of Madison, Miss., Fannie Kent Glisson of Macon, Eyra Kent Nichols of Greenwood, S.C., Myrene Kent Womack of Hernando, Miss., Goolene Kent Miles of Lyons and Joann Kent Waters of Gainesville; three stepchildren, Beverly (Joe) Gustafson of Phoenix, Ariz., Joan Roubik of Countryside, Ill. and Stanley (Georgia) Blashaw of Stone Mountain; and a brother-in-law, John Bell of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Graveside services were held 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, March 23) at the Millen Cemetery.
She was born in Mellerton, Penn. And was a retired professional cook and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, William Russell Stevens of Garfield; three daughters, Ginger Raffidy and Dawn Carlson and Wanda; three step-daughters, Roseann Stevens of Millen, Mary Stevens and Amanda Stevens, both of Concord, N.C.; two sons, Earl Raffidy and Pat Kendrick; three step-sons, Russell William Stevens, Robert Stevens and Joseph Stevens of Elmira, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mary Etta Luke and Pauline Harding of Covington, Penn.

His funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Osborn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Johnson, a lifelong resident of Emanuel County, was retired from Brigadier Mobile Homes. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church

Bruce Lavern Cox Sr., 59, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 in Memphis, Tenn. after a short illness.
Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Millen Cemetery.
Cox was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and a sales representative for International Fiber Packaging Company, a division of Leggett & Platt.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Davis Cox of Hernando, Miss.; a daughter, Jenny Cox of Modesto, Calif.; a son, Bruce L. (Chip) Cox Jr., his wife, Kristi, and two daughters of Valdosta; two step-children, J.J. Tidwell of Nashville, Tenn. and Bubba Harbison of Ft. Worth, Texas; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith and Jane Cox of Savannah and Barclay and Nancy Cox of Toccoa.

Lena Reunette Herrington Sloan, 95, died Friday, March 18, 2005 at Brittany’s Place Assisted Living in Jeffersonville.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19 in the Allentown City Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Alligood officiating.
Sloan was born in Jenkins County on June 16, 1909. She lived in Gordon County (Calhoun), and in Wilkinson County (Allentown), before moving to Brittany’s Place Assisted Living in Jeffersonville. She was the daughter of the late William Holmes and Essie Brinson Herrington. She was the widow of the late Earl Sloan. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Holmes Julian Herrington, Wycliffe Judson Herrington and Thomas Young Herrington, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley B. Sloan.
Survivors include a son, Arnold Sloan of Allentown; two grandchildren, Cindy S. (Fred) Bright of Gordon and Keith (Terri) Sloan of Millegeville; a sister, Faye Jean Pickron of Montrose; two sisters-in-law, Julia Agnes Herrington Faulk of Jeffersonville and Martha Mercer Herrington of Macon; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral was held 2 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the Monroe First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Margaret Adams and C. Otis Brooks officiating. Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Millen Cemetery with Dr. Maurice Crowder officiating.
Betty Murray was born in Emanuel County on June 29, 1905 to the late Thomas Jefferson Gunn and the late Hattie Strozier Gunn.
Mrs. Murray was a graduate of both Millen High School and Bessie Tift College. She was a public school teacher, merchant and Sunday School teacher. She was also actively involved in her community.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, the late J. Frank Walker and the late William L. "Bill" Murray.
Survivors include devoted friend and caregiver, Roosevelt Harris of Monroe; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Ellie Winslow of Thompson dies Friday, Jan. 28, at 76 years of age
Ellie Mae "Hannah" Lane Gunby Winslow, 76, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2005.
She was born to the late Hillis Edward Gunby of Thompson and the late Pansy Lane of Millen Aug. 5, 1928. She was delivered by Madeline Lane and weighed only 1 pound, ¼ ounce at birth. She moved to Orlando, Fla. in 1939, where she lived out the rest of her life devoted to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Alva Carl Winslow of Peachtree City and Tony Duane Winslow of Orlando; a sister, Dorothy Louise Goff, also of Orlando; four grandchildren; and numerous relatives and lifelong friends in the Millen and Savannah areas.

Mrs. Barr was a native of Jenkins County. She was retired from Remington Door Co. and she was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Amos H. Barr III and Andrew M. Barr; a daughter, Adrienne L. Hennessey; a brother, Robert Martin Burke; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Fannie Mae Joiner Kent, 82, of Millen died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.
Graveside services were held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Millen Cemetery with Dr. Charles Cravey officiating.
Mrs. Kent, a native of Jenkins County, was a retired supervisor from Thomson Co. and a member of Millen United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brantley Kent; a son, Andy Kent; and a granddaughter, Vickie Cannady.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, B.L. and Becky Kent; a brother and sister-in-law, Grady Sr. and Marie Joiner; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Andy Kent; three grandchildren, Kelly K. Thompson, Grayson Kent and Karen Kent; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Andrew Thompson and Kent Allen Thompson, all of Millen.
Pallbearers were David Dozier, Dexter Drake, Grady Joiner Jr., Frank Joiner, Randy Fagler, Joshua Farthing, Kenneth Williams and F.A. Black.
