Julia Harvill, 65, dies Saturday, Feb. 5, in Trophy Club, Texas
Julia L. Harvill, 65, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 in Trophy Club, Texas.
A memorial service for Mrs. Harvill was held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel in Colleyville, Texas.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, in the chapel at Stevens Funeral Home with Steve Hill officiating. Burial was in McCurley Cemetery in Holly Grove.
Julia and her husband, Buddy, met in California as youngsters and were married 42 wonderful years. She was a bronze life master of bridge. She retired in 1990 as a legal secretary from Harkin Oil.
Mrs. Harvill is survived by her husband of 42 years, Buddy Harvill of Trophy Club; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Kay Harvill of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lance and Kelly Harvill of Lewisville, Texas; three grandchildren, Madison, Ethan and River Harvill, all of Lewisville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Regina and Don Parks of Holly Grove, Ark., Margaret Hill of Cave Junction, Ore., and Joyce and Jim Malugeon of Cypress, Calif.; and a brother, Robert W. Smith of Clarendon, Ark.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jenkins native Ruth Gregory dies Tuesday, Jan. 25 in Waynesboro
Ruth Merle Holton Gregory died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 in Waynesboro.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Millen Cemetery.
Mrs. Gregory was born in Jenkins County. She was a retired secretary and a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Beth G. Hall of Swainsboro; a son, Christopher R. Gregory of Athens; two sisters, Mary Wudlow of Charlston, S.C., and Pearl Wilson of Brunswick; and a brother, Earl Holton of San Diego, Calif.
Mrs. Shirley Ann Oglesby, 62, of Midville dies June 2
Shirley Ann Mock Oglesby, 62, of Midville died Thursday, June 2, 2005.
Her funeral was held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Oak Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. William H. Thompson and Wayne Bray officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Oglesby was born in Jenkins County. She was owner of Oglesby Grocery Store and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Oglesby of Midville; a daughter, Cathy E. Bowen, also of Midville; a son, Eddie Eskew of Millen; stepfather, James Langham, also of Millen; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were John Durden, Allen Durden, Jeff Adams, Rodney Oglesby, Jay Carroll and Jim Sherrod.
Mrs. Dora Laura Bridges Dixon, 97, of Millen dies
Dora Laura Bridges Dixon, 97, of Millen died Thursday, June 2, 2005.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the Millen Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Hood and Dr. Clarence Blalock officiating. Burial followed in the Millen Cemetery.
A visitation was held Saturday, June 4, from 7-9 p.m. at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Telfair County. She was a homemaker and member of the Millen Baptist Church where she attended the Reva Gay Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Dixon was also a former member of the Foster Grandparents of America.
Survivors include two daughters, Robbie Coleman and Jewell Dixon, both of Millen; five grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and a very special nephew, the Rev. Dr. Clarence Blalock of St. Augustine, Fla.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Mrs. Gladys Woods Hendrix, 90, of Millen died Friday, June 3, 2005.
David Allen Johnson, 64, of Conyers dies on July 10
David Allen Johnson, 64, of Conyers died Sunday, July 10, 2005 following a 16-year battle with cancer.
Burial will be held in Millen (today) Wednesday, July 13. A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 12, at the Conyers Presbyterian Church.
Johnson was born in Hanover, NH on Oct. 11, 1940 and spent his childhood in Lebanon, NH where he was active in sports, especially skiing.
He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1958 and Colby College in 1963 where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Air Force. He attended pilot training at Moody, AFB, Valdosta, and KC-135 Tanker Training at Castle AFB, California. He served seven years in the U.S. Air Force as a KC-135 pilot with tours of duty at Roswell AFB in New Mexico, Plattsburg AFB, New York, Fairchild AFB, Washington, and temporary duty tours in Thailand and Taiwan during the Viet Nam War.
Mr. Johnson joined Delta Air Lines as a pilot in 1970 where he continued to work until a brain tumor in 1989 left him unable to fly.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Jane Daniel Johnson, formerly of Millen; children, Christopher and Stephanie Johnson of Conyers, Caroline and David Brainard of St. Augustine, Fla., and Beth and Scott Sexson of Hilton Head, S.C.; grandchildren, Camille and Cambyl Johnson; his mother, Caroline Lewis Johnson of Dennis, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. William G. Hogarth (Lucy) of Attleboro, Mass.; a brother, Andrew L. Johnson of White River Junction, Vt.; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth N. Daniel of Millen.

Mrs. Jean E. Tiller of Evans, wife of Mr. W.R. Tiller, entered into rest at the residence on Wednesday, June 29, 2005.
Private funeral services were held.
Mrs. Tiller was born in Savannah to the late John T. and Jessie W. Evans. She lived in Millen many years, until she moved to Evans.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. W.R. Tiller of Evans; a son, Mr. Lawrence E. Tiller and wife, Lorene, of Evans; a daughter, Mrs. Rachel T. Rabitsch and husband, Emory Jr., of Evans; three grandchildren, Randy Tiller, Lisa Corley and Joey Hobbs; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Patricia Covington, 72, dies July 20 at EMC
Mrs. Patricia "Patsy" Covington, 72, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Emanuel Medical Center.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at South Newington Baptist Church. Interment followed in Hill Crest Abbey West.
Mrs. Covington, an Emanuel County native, was a homemaker and a member of South Newington Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Covington, and son, Rodney Covington.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, David and Janice Covington of Rincon and Alex and Guille Covington of Savannah; a daughter-in-law, Carol Covington of Savannah; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, June Ellen Clark of Garfield and Virginia Covington of Savannah; a brother, John Vernon Sikes of Garfield; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Gerald Wayne Baggett, 52, dies July 30 in Gibson
Mr. Gerald Wayne Baggett, 52, died Saturday, July 30, 2005 at his residence in Gibson.
His funeral was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Oak Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Baggett was a native of Jenkins County. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a security officer for Sizemore Security. He was a member of the Bainbridge United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Outler of Vidalia; a son, Gerald Wayne Baggett Jr. of West Land, Mich.; his mother, Vera Polk Williams of Millen; a brother, Ricky Baggett, also of Millen; a sister, Susan Pacheo of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
Mary Waters Turner, 79, of Sylvania dies July 28
Mary Waters Turner, 79, of Sylvania died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at her residence near Bay Branch Community.
Her funeral was held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Bay Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Pressey officiating. Burial was in the Elam Baptist Church Cemetery in Jenkins County.
Mrs. Turner, a native of Screven County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Bay Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William David Turner Jr.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda T. and Jim Winskey of Statesboro and Debra T. Bryan of Sylvania; two sisters, Juel W. Turner of Millen and Miriam W. Gay of Columbia, S.C.; and two grandsons, Ethan Winskey of Statesboro and Evan Bryan of Sylvania.

Mrs. Faye Spence Wallace, 79, of Stapleton, died Saturday August 6, 2005.
Her funeral will be held 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Green Fork Baptist Church with Revs. Scott Hill and Jon Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Jenkins County, formerly of Venice, Fla. was a retired hospital ward clerk, and member of Green Fork Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Pete Hunter.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Faith and Ed Farmer of Panama City, Fla. and Carman Hunter of Stapleton; a son and daughter-in-law, Glynn and Norma Wallace of Stapleton; a sister, Grace Lovingood of Adairsville; a brother, Pastor Scott Hill of Chesapeake, Va.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Charles and Doris Wallace and Peggy Wallace.
Active Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Rebecca Harter, Ernest Greer III, John Thomas Greer, Matthew Hunter, Derek Hunter and Jessica Faye Hunter. Honorary pallbearers will be the Millen High School Class of 1943.
