She was preceded in death by her husband, the late David Jean Gatton. Mr. Robert Edward Cobb age 78 of Monroe died Sunday, March 15, 2009. He was born Aug. 15, 1930 in Rockdale County to the late William Henry and Julia (Wiggins) Cobb. Mr. Cobb was retired from Lithonia Lighting. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Margaret Elizabeth (Chandler) Cobb. Peggy Brown Hudson
Peggy Brown Hudson, age 75 of Monroe, GA/South Hill, VA, went to be with our Lord on March 15, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Walton County on April 23, 1933 to the late John Harry Brown, Sr. and the late Sally Thomas Brown. She lived in Monroe for most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 65 years. She taught Sunday school and played the piano during her early years. Peggy loved to travel. She and her husband traveled all of the United States and to many foreign countries. She is survived by her husband: Bobby F. Hudson, Sr. of Monroe; step-son and step-daughter-in-law: Bobby and Kerry Hudson of Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law: Harry and Barbara Brown, Jr. of Monroe; niece and nephew: Donna and Mark Sisk of Monroe, and Al Brown of Social Circle; great nephews: Wesley Sisk, Taylor Sisk, Chase Sisk, all of Monroe; and a host of special friends.

William Thomas “Tom” Bell, Jr., age 66 of Monroe, died March 15, 2009. Mr. Bell was a graduate of Georgia Tech where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received his Masters degree from Georgia State University. He served on the Army Corp of Engineers during the Vietnam War, worked for Delta Air Lines for 25 years where he served as Vice President of Airport Customer Service, was a member of the Julienton River Club, served on the Walton County Board of Commissioners, was a Walton EMC Board Member, and a member of Monroe First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Bettye Jean Bell and father: William Thomas Bell, Sr. He is survived by his wife: Beth Bell of Monroe; children: Jennie Bell of Brooklyn, NY and Jeff Bell of Atlanta; mother: Anne P. Bell of Gainesville; sister: Linda Dorsey of Gainesville.

Burial Corinth Memorial Gardens, Loganville. A member of Corinth Christian Church and Loganville American Legion, Mr. Palmer was a retired Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force with 22 years of service and Owner/Operator of American Gas Station in Loganville for many years. He was preceded in death by his grandson Chris Lively in 1986 and is survived by: wife of 63 years: Margaret Palmer; children: Sherrian and Robert Lively, all of Loganville; Sandra and Stanley Purifoy, Sylvester; Pam and Jimmy Stapp, Rutledge; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Edyth Heckathorn, age 84, of Marietta, GA died on March 5, 2009 after an extended illness. She was born in Mahoning County, OH on Sept. 19, 1924 and was raised in New Castle, PA where she lived until 1974. She moved to Monroe, GA in 1974 where she remained until 2007 when she relocated to Marietta, GA. She was a retired homemaker and enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Ralph E. Heckathorn who died in 2004. She was an active member Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Irene Nowell Women’s Circle and participated in Saints Alive Christian social activities. She enjoyed bowling and playing golf most of her life. She was often seen at local church and school sporting events where she cheered for friends and family. She is survived by three children: Melanie Nord of Shelbyville, IN, Larry and Janet Heckathorn of Cranberry Twp, PA and Peggy Cowan of Marietta, GA. She was proud to claim eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers: Richard Snow of Cranberry Twp, PA and Dr. and Mrs. James S. Snow of New Castle, PA as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church in Monroe, GA

Everett S. (Mac) McAlister of Loganville, and formerly of Titusville, FL, went home to his eternal reward on Sunday, March 1, 2009. He was preceded in death by son: Kevin McAlister in 1974 and is survived by his wife of 55 years: Patricia A. McAlister; daughters: Cindy Bowers and husband Phil of Lilburn, Linda Cheek and husband Chris of Lawrenceville; granddaughters: Ashley Wood of Lawrenceville, Kate Bowers of Abilene, TX, and Amanda Bowers of Lilburn; sister Harriet Perrett of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Mac was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 20, 1932. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1960. He began his career in the aerospace industry in 1960 with Boeing Aerospace and retired in 1996 after a career spent primarily at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL, where he was actively involved in the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs.

Herbert Uno Lovgren, age 75 of Monroe, died on Feb. 25, 2009. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 29, 1933 to the late Carl Uno Lovgren and the late Siri Nilsson Lovgren. He is survived by his wife: Verna Walker Lovgren of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Vicki and Bill Landers of Lilburn : sons and daughters-in-law: Marty and Robin Lovgren of Franklin, TN, Jack and Becky Lovgren of Daphne, AL: and seven grandchildren. He graduated from Ridley Park High School in Pennsylvania and worked for Pennsylvania Railroad until joining the Air Force. During the Korean War, he was stationed at Johnson Air Force Base in Japan and later at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Florida. He worked for AT&T Co. as an engineer and retired in 1989 after 32 years of service. During this time he served as president of Communications Workers of America, Local 3250. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe, and also a member of Masonic Lodge 603 for 50 years.

He was retied from Salloum Construction Company and was a member of the Baptist faith. William Dade Nunnally, age 55, died Friday, April 10, 2009, in Birmingham after a battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his father: Dr. Harry Bell Nunnally, he is survived by his wife: Marguerite Waller Nunnally, his sons: William Dade Nunnally and Mathew Talbot Nunnally; and his mother: Edith Fugitt Nunnally. Bill was born in Monroe, Ga, in 1954. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in accounting and worked for the Southern Company as a fuel accounting manager in Atlanta and, recently, in Birmingham. An avid yachtsman, Bill sailed in Corsica and throughout the Caribbean. He was passionate about golf and played courses all over the world. A memorial service was held at 11 am on Monday, April 13, on the terrace of the Old Overton Country Club, 7560 Old Overton Club Road in Liberty Park, Birmingham.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday April 4th at the Christ Community Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Stamey officiating. Rachel Conger, age 82 of Social Circle, died on April 2, 2009. She was born on Dec. 23, 1926 in Wilkes County to the late James Poss and the late Alice Barrett Poss. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Frank Conger. Surviving are: sons and daughter-in-law: Steve and Paula Conger of Snellville, and Michael Conger of Social Circle; sisters: Mary Lemley of Social Circle and Myra Gaulden of Martinez. Funeral Services were held on Saturday April 4th at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Swift officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery. Robert Lawrence Dixon, age 70 of Good Hope, died on April 3, 2009. He was born in DeKalb County on March 9, 1939 to the late James Floyd Dixon and the late Virgie Ellen King Dixon. Surviving are: wife: June B. Dixon of Good Hope; son: Robert James “Jimmy” and Cindy Dixon of Winder; daughters and son-in-law: Donna Dixon of Conyers, Connie Dixon Brown of Waco, Texas, and Sherry Anne and Johnny Wylie of Buford; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday April 7th at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Armour and the Rev. Connie Dixon Brown officiating.
