Beverly Ann Miles Williams, 44, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The Candler Co. native had lived most of her life in Metter and was an employee of Eagle Bank in Statesboro. She was a member of Metter Free Will Baptist Church. She loved to sew, cook and work with her African violets.
She is survived by her husband, Joe R. Williams; daughters and a son-in-law, Christina Elaine Williams and Denise Paige and Miguel Aviles; her mother and step-father, Cecile and Don Blackburn; her father, J.T. Miles Sr.; a brother, John T. Miles Jr., all of Metter; one sister, Michele Holland of Atlanta; maternal grandmother, Eloise Strobert of Savannah; two grandsons, Caleb Andrew Williams and Alexander Nicolas Aviles; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel with Rev. Will Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harry McGirt
Harry McGirt Jr., 74, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Tattnall County Nursing Home in Reidsville. He was a native of Bulloch County.
He is survived by five sons, Tommy McGirt of Brunswick, Joe Carlton, Ronnie Carlton, Jaime Carlton and Harry Carlton, all of Swainsboro; six daughters, Mary Ann McGirt, Valerie McGirt and Jeannette McGirt, all of Pembroke, Tamika Carlton, Jessica Carlton and Denise Carlton, all of Swainsboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Felton and Mary McGirt of Ellabell; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Viola Andrews and Lucy Sellars, both of Collins, Frances and George Brown of Cobbtown, and Mary Rawls of Statesboro; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Cone Cemetery in Stilson.

Willie Alfred Holloman
Willie Alfred Holloman, 66, of Metter died on April 7, 2004, at Candler County Hospital.
Survivors include his mother, Lennie Holloman of Metter; two sisters, Alberta Blanford of Madison Heights, MI and Bernice Salter of Metter.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mercer Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Thomas J. Byrd Sr.
Thomas J. Byrd Sr., 87, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at his residence in Stillmore. The Candler County native had resided in Emanuel County for most of his adult life and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Aline.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas C. Byrd of Stillmore, and Deacon Thomas J. Byrd Jr. and his wife, Julia Nell Byrd of Twin City; one daughter, Betty J. Gordon and her husband, Johnny Gordon of Stillmore; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 2 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church in Aline with burial in the church cemetery.

Clyde Watson Woods
Clyde Watson Woods, 89, of Metter died on Friday, April 23, 2004 at Candler County Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II and a Merchant Marine for 30 years.
He is survived by a son Robert Woods of Douglasville; one daughter, Juanita C. Hill of Tampa, FL; sisters, Nellie Saunders of Pembroke and Myrtle Smith of Metter; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Burnon Jarriel officiating. Burial was in Lake Cemetery.

Joseph “Joe” Lee Coursey Jr.
Joseph “Joe” Lee Coursey Jr., 63, died Sunday morning, May 2, 2004, at his home. He was born in Emanuel County and lived all of his life in Candler County. He was owner and operator of Thriftway Grocery for 36 years. He passed away at 6 a.m., his favorite time of the day being early morning when the deer started moving, then he would o to the work he loved. Each day was started with prayer with employees before the store opened. He was an honored member of hte Georgia Food Association. He was a member of the Andrew Sunday School Class and hte Metter First Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher and served on various church committees.
He is survived by his wife, June Collins Coursey; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. “Chip” Coursey III and Dawn of Reynolds; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Slade Holloway; parents, Julia and Joe Coursey Sr.; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Charlotte Coursey, all of Metter; grandchildren, Megan Coursey of Jacksonvill, FL, Dylan and Gatlin Holloway, both of Metter; nephews, David Coursey and sons, Darin and Denton, all of Metter.
Pallbearers were Ken Bryant, Wayne Carter, W.L. Hall Jr., Slade Holloway, George Spivey, Jim Donaldson, Bobby Rigdon and Ernest Franklin. Honorary pallbearers were the Andrew Sunday School class and Metter High School Class of 1958.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Metter First Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Guido and Rev. Fred Pifer officiating. Burial was in the Coursey Family Cemetery.

Cora Lee Douglas Mongin
Cora Lee Douglas Mongin, 80, died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Hospice Savannah. The Tattnall Co. native lived all of her adult life in Candler County. She was a Pentecostal minister for 52 years having served Holy Church of God in Metter for the past 29 years. She retired from Allied Department Store as assistant manager and was an accomplished seamstress. She loved working with Concerted Services and was affectionately loved by everyone, touching many lives. She was predeceased by her husband Rev. Denver Mongin; a son, Tommy Mongin; and grandchildren, Debra Jean Roberts and Thomas Eugene Mongin.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mildred Mongin; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Conner and Patricia Sutton, both of Metter, Linda and Doyle Thomas of Warner Robins, and Brenda and Bill Kern of Hot Springs, VA; one sister, Martha Driggers of Savannah; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Todd Roberts, Bo Roberts, Tim Thomas, Richard Goodman, Bubba Conner and Ricky Conner. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Lundy, Dennis Allen, Rex Hartley, J.P. Mongin, Grayson Douglas, Ronnie Miles, Bobby Sapp, Bob Purifoy, Johnny Barnes, Donnie Mongin and granddaughters.

Audrey Owens Toler, 78, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Candler County and attended Church of Christ. She retired from Metter Manufacturing Company and loved to sew and quilt.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Willene and William Price of Shellman Bluff and Marsha and Mack Snipes of Metter; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne H. and Cheryl Cardell of North Palm Beach, Fl.; a brother, Edward Owens of Twin City and Jurue Owens of Metter; a sister, Eyvette Cassidy of Statesboro; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. at Lake Cemetery with the Rev. Will H. Griffith officiating.

Sarah Jane Lariscey, 94, died Thursday, at Candler Co. Hospital. The Emanuel Co. native lived several years in Richmond Co. before moving back to the Metter area.
She is survived by Franklin M. Lariscey and Leroy Lariscey, both of Augusta and Billy E. Lariscey Sr. of Hephzibah; a sister, Annis Barber of Metter; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Frank Lariscey Jr., Bobby Lariscey, Benny Collin, Larry Lariscey, Randy Strong, and Billy Lariscey Jr.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with burial in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Rev. Johnny Beasley officiated.

Robert Gary Collins
Robert Gary Collins, 66, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.
The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident was retired from Rogers State Prison and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He loved to fish and was an avid Braves fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Faye Collins.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Earl Wiggins of Baxley and LaDonna and Jimmy Cowart of Pembroke; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Melissa Smith of Collins; a brother, Jerry Collins of Augusta; a sister, Merle Lewis of Golden, Co.; a special friend, Kathleen Oglesby of Lyons; and seven grandchildren, Christopher Wiggins, Jeremy Wiggins, Candace Smith, A. J. Smith, Jordan Smith, Jessica Turner and Colt Turner..
Pallbearers were Powell Colling, Raymond Brown, Benton Bragg, Ricky Jarriell, Rick Coley and Doug McMurtry.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Rogers and Rev. Earl Wiggins officiated.

Maxie Attaway Holloway
Maxie Attaway Holloway, 94, of Swainsboro died Monday evening, April 12, 2004, at Johnson County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Holloway was born in Burke County but had lived in Emanuel County all of her life. She attended school at Midville, Rock Bottom and graduated from ECI in 1929. She served as class treasurer until her death.
Mrs. Holloway was a member of Twin City First Baptist Church and her husband operated Youmans Dairy in Wesley and Coleman Rushton farm in Twin City. She was active in Farm Bureau in Wesley and Union community in Candler County.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Curtis Holloway; a son, Bobby Holloway; a sister, Sarah Holloway Dodgen; a brother, Willie E. Attaway.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Attaway and Ada Attaway, both of Swainsboro; 12 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and nephews; and 31 great-great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bark Camp Church, in care of Leonard Quick, PO Box 262, Midville GA 30441.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, April 15, at 2 p.m. at Twin City First Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin Sasser and James L. Scott Jr. officiating.
Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dellwood.

Marie L. Harris Swart
Marie L. Harris Swart, 85, of Augusta died Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Augusta. The Bulloch Co. native lived most of her life in Metter before moving to Augusta in 1993. She was a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church, loved to sew, garden and cook, and many thanks to Steve and Lynn.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Baker of Augusta; one sister, Gussie Scarborough; 12 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, Betty Lance and Bobbie Leverett.
Graveside funeral services were held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Twin City.

Perry Lee Deloach
The Honorable Mayor Perry Lee Deloach, 80, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital. He has been mayor of Claxton for the past 34 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Claxton. A member and past President of the Rotary Club, past President of the Jaycees, member of the VFW and American Legion, he was past President of the Local Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was past President of the GMA in the first District. He was a salesman and a dealer owner for Ford Motor Co. for 35 years. He served two tours in the Marines during WWII and Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Holloway DeLoach of Claxton; one daughter, Catherine Powell of Claxton; two brothers, W.R. “Boss” DeLoach and Elton DeLoach, both of Claxton; two sisters, Jane Hammock of Claxton and Nannie Kate Denton of Hagan; one grandson and wife, Corey and Shelly Powell of Claxton; two great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Andrew Powell, both of Claxton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 9, at the First United Methodist Church in Claxton with Rev. Craig Hutto and Rev. John Carroll officiating. Burial was in Canoochee Church Cemetery.
