Ralph Lovett Jr.
Ralph Lovett Jr., 64, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Candler County Hospital in Metter. The Screven County native spent his formative years in Bulloch County and attended the public schools of the county. He lived in New Jersey for 18 years and was employed as a railroad technician.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae Lovett of Irvington, N.J.; three sons, Tony Joyner of Statesboro, Jerome Lovett of Irvington, N.J. and Harry Emory of Millen; one daughter, Angela Lovett of Irvington, N.J.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bobby and Arliesha Lovett of Portal, Willie and Claudia Lovett of Garfield and John Lovette of Pooler; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Annie and Martin Kemp of Irvington, N.J., Mamie and Willie Sconiers of Thomaston, Martha Parker of Portal, Sarah and Carl Bynes of Tyrone and Linda and Freddie Jenkins of Hardeeville, S.C.; four grandchildren; three uncles and five aunts.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday (today) at W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel, Whitaker Funeral Home with burial in Horse Creek Community Cemetery in Screven County.

Harry David Nettles Jr.
Harry David Nettles Jr., 57, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.
The native of Mayport, Fl., lived several years in Jacksonville, Fl., before moving to Metter in the early 1980s. He was a truck driver and shrimper and had a love of antique cars, especially his 1956 Ford Crown Victoria, and his rose garden. He was a Baptist and was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Nettles.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Nettles; sons and spouse, Robert and Elizabeth Nettles, David Nettles, Dwayne Nettles, all of Metter, Harry Nettles III of Mayport, Fl., and Tony Acres of Register; a step-son and spouse, Ralph and Jeannie Wood of Metter; daughters, Felicia Nettles of Metter, Jenny Nettles of Jacksonville, Fl., step-daughter and spouse, Gennie and Darwin Tapley of Swainsboro and Teresa Register of Metter; sister Mary Bryant of Portal; brothers, Aaron Vaughn of Hartwell and Casey Huff of Reidsville; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday (today) at 4 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with burial in Lake Cemetery. The Rev. Burnon Jarriel will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Hub Bryant, Joseph Bryant, Wally Sasser Sr., Wally Sasser Jr., Gene Williams and Tracy Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill DeLoach, Clayton Aldrich, Jason Cobb, Travis Googe, Moses Gentry, Bobby Faircloth and Charles Beasley.

Lucile K. Lane
Lucile K. Lane, 81, of Atlanta died Friday morning at Hospice Atlanta. The Metter native had lived in Atlanta for the past eight years. She was a member of Metter Presbyterian Church for many years and a member of the Phi-Mu Sorority.
She is survived by her son George H. Lane III; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George H. Lane Jr.
Funeral services were held on Monday at Metter Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tino Ballesteros officiating. Burial was in Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Moore, Cliff Hendrix, Richard Gay, John Edwin Jones Jr., Robert West and Eddie Jones.

Amelia Nannette Jones
Amelia Nannette Jones, 63, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at her home in Blackville.
She was born in Metter on Aug. 4, 1940, the daughter of the late Montine Anderson Jones. She was a bookkeeper for Hipage Company in Savannah and attended Black Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two sons, M. Talmadge Malphrus Jr. and David D. Malphrus, both of Ridgeland, S.C.; a brother, John Robert Jones of Metter; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, at Lake Church in Metter, with burial in Lake Cemetery.

Irma Jean Collins
Irma Jean Collins, 74, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Candler County Hospital.
The lifelong resident of Tattnall County was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was a seamstress at Rosebud Manufacturing and loved reading and Gospel music. She was predeceased by her husband, Leavy Collins, and a granddaughter, Christy Lyn Lively.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne Collins of Arcadia, R. D. and Joan Collins of Reidsville, George Collins of Collins, Michael and Christy Collins of Milan and Stacey Collins of Collins; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Jean and Morris Lively of Collins, Barbara and Randy Hackle of Cobbtown and Vicki Gaffney of Johnson Corner; a brother, Ronnie Sikes of Metter; sisters, Willodene Collins of Eastman, Frances S. Beasley and Brenda S. Beasley, both of Metter; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in Connors Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time.

Anna Marie Robbins Bragdon
Anna Marie Robbins Bragdon, 84, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her home. She was born in Screven County and lived most of her life in Candler County. She was a member of Excelsior Baptist Church for 54 years and a homemaker. She loved working with her flowers, loved to cook and was affectionately known as “Granny” to family and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudette B. Miller, and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Bowen Bragdon.
She is survived by her husband, Claude T. Bragdon of Metter; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Debra Bragdon of Harris Neck; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and John Cannady of Statesboro and Sherry and Larry Joe McDaniel of Metter; a sister, Hulda Lucas of Savannah; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with burial in Lake Cemetery. Rev. Gene Hiers and Rev. Grady Walden officiated.

Wayne Leverett
Wayne Leverett, 53, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Candler Co. native and lifelong resident was a parts manager at Jimmy Franklin Chevrolet. He attended the Metter Primitive Baptist Church, loved to restore cars and work in his yard.
He is survived by daughters, Ginger Leverett, Claire Leverett, Brooke Ann Leverett; one son, Dalton Leverett, all of Metter; fiancé, Doris Lee of Twin City; one brother, Charles Leverett; sisters, Wanda Leverett of Statesboro, Patricia Leynes of Grovetown, FL and Annie Fred Clark of Zepher Hills, FL.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder John Sheldon Mikell officiating. Burial was at Lake Cemetery.

Rev. Boyd H. Reed
Rev. Boyd H. Reed, 86, of Adel died May 10, 2004, at Metter Nursing Home.
Rev. Reed was born Aug. 3, 1917 to James Daniel and Clara Mae Loggins Reed. A native of Hall County, he lived most of his life in Cook County. He was a retired minister and farmer and was a member of Springhead Baptist Church. He was also a Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Glady Joiner Reed, a son, Ronald Reed, and a grandson, Michael Crosby.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Connie Reed of Adel and Bill and Peggy Reed of Claxton; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ruth and C. W. Mixon of MacClenny, Fl., Ann and Otto Sorensen of Adel, Barbara and Chris Hughes of Jacksonville and Karen Blankenship of Moultrie; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Springhead Baptist Church with Rev. Lennon Howell and Rev. Robert Lawrence officiating. Interment followed at Brushy Creek Church Cemetery.
Amelia Nannette (Nancy) Jones
Amelia Nannette (Nancy) Jones died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at her home in Ellabelle. She was born in Candler County on August 4, 1940. Nancy was the daughter of the late Thurman and Montine Jones. She was a bookkeeper for Hipage Company in Savannah. She was a member of the Lake Primitive Baptist Church and attended Olive Branch Church.

Edna Mae Adams
Edna Mae Adams, 90, of College Park died Monday, May 24, 2004, at the Christian Ministries Hospice in Riverdale. She was a native of Evans County and resided in Candler County for over 60 years. Her husband, Willie “Bull” Adams preceded her in death. For more than 50 years, she was an active member and usher at Thankful Baptist Church in Metter.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Annie Lott of College Park; two brothers, Allen McClennon of Claxton and Clyde McClennon of Plainfield, NJ; one sister, Zonnie Garrison of Claxton; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel, Whitaker Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Claxton. Wake service will be held Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. at Thankful Baptist Church in Metter.

Susie Mae Holloway
Susie Mae Holloway, 77, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 in Penns Grove, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Ginny Calhoun Jones. The Candler Co. native spent much of her adult life in New Jersey. After retirement, she moved back to Metter with her husband, Herman Holloway, who preceded her in death. She recently returned to New Jersey where she remained until her passing.
Survivors include her son, Carl Lee Holloway of Metter; three granddaughters, Marguerite Sharpr, LaDeishia Sharper and Carla Sharper, all of Penns Grove, NJ; two grandsons, Carl Pritchett and Marcus Pritchett, both of New Jersey; three brothers-in-law, Elder John Holloway and Joseph Holloway of Penns Grove, NJ and Charlie D. Edenfield of Metter; four sisters-in-law, Gloria Holloway, Annie Mincey and Sutie Mincey, all of Penns Grove, NJ and Winnie Parrish of Wilmington, DE; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 23, at W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Dixon Grove Cemetery.

Paula Sapp Oliver
Paula Sapp Oliver, 50, of Collins died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.
The Evans County native lived in Collins for the past 25 years. She was social director at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia and was of the Baptist faith. She loved to work in her yard, especially with her roses and lilies, and loved fishing and being a friend to many.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace Oliver; her mother, Pauline Yarbrough of Glennville; children, Little Mack Oliver of Collins, Tina Daly of Statesboro, Cindy Willis of Glennville, Kathy Clark of Reidsville, Renee Phillips of Reidsville and Tommy Oliver of Reidsville; a brother, Wallace Sapp of Swainsboro; a sister, Janice DeLoach of Ludowici; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Little Flock Cemetery with the Rev. Hugh Oliver officiating.

Fred Nichols Hendricks
Fred Nichols Hendricks, 93, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born May 12, 1911 on his family farm near Metter. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 67 years, Lavern Hendricks.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia in 1932. After college he was principal and school superintendent in Calhoun County. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. After the war, he remained active in the Air Force Reserves where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following active duty in World War II, he worked for the Veteran’s Administration where he retired from the position of Hospital Director in Fayetteville in 1980.
Mr. Hendricks was active in the Kiwanis Club International for over 50 years and served a term as President of both the Fayetteville and Tuscaloosa, AL Chapter. His dedication to his communities included service on the boards of the Richardson Center, Boys Club, and United Fund. He also served as Commissioner of the Little League and Vice President of the Babe Ruth League. He continued to support his family’s church, Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Portal. His life centered around his family. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife, gardening, shopping the Farmer’s Market and listening to gospel hymns.
Survivors include his children, David and Rita Hendricks of Oklahoma City, OK, Patricia and Judge William Storey of Fayetteville and Paul Hendricks of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Family services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Fairview Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel, with Pastor Charlie Brown officiating
