Lena Belle Davis Bowers, 85, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Candler County Hospital. She was born in Bulloch Co. but lived most of her life in Candler County. She was a homemaker and loved to fish. She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis McKinley Bowers; two sons, Earl Bowers and Billy Bowers; granddaughter Becky Cooper and a great-granddaughter, Meagan Cooper.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and James Lowery of Birmingham, AL, Joyce and Wendell Newton of Statesboro, Diane Mercer of Twin City, Faye and Gene Youmans of Metter; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Jan Bowers of Metter and Larry and Minnie Bowers of Statesboro, Alphalene Bowers of Metter and Virginia Bowers of Savannah; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel with Rev. Ray Woodcock officiating. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Juan Hernandez
Juan Hernandez, 50, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, of injuries received in an automobile accident in Tattnall County. The native of IdaLou, TX had lived in Metter for the past six months. He was a farm laborer and a Catholic.
He is survived by two sons, Roberto Torres of Cocoa Beach, FL and Juan Hernandez III of Mercedes, Texas; two daughters, Rachel Torres and Renee Torres, both of Mercedes, TX; and four sisters, Marisela Torres, Delia Garza, Graceila Hernandez, Mary Hernandez and Alma Gonzales.
Funeral services were held on Friday at Garcia Trevino Funeral Home in Mercedes, TX with burial in the Mercedes Memorial Restlawn Cemetery.

Harold Aldrich
Harold Aldrich, 70, of Metter died on Friday, June 18, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. A native of Candler County he lived all of his life in Metter. He was retired and a member of the Holy Church of God. He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Jerome “Jerry” Aldrich.
He is survived by his wife, Janette Aldrich of Metter; one daughter, Melesia Becerra of Metter; one sister, Evelyn Miles of North Augusta, S.C.; brothers, Freddy Aldrich, Burton Aldrich, Clayton Aldrich and Wade Aldrich, all of Metter; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, at Inspirational Baptist Church in Aline with Rev. Ronnie Johnson and Rev. Dwayne Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Aldrich Family Cemetery in Metter.
Pallbearers were Jason Aldrich, Broadus aldrich, Mike Aldrich, Mark Aldrich, Craig Aldrich, Steve Aldrich, Keith Aldrich and Wayne Miles. Honorary pallbearers were Sidney Calvert and David Cobb.

Donald McCluskey
Donald McCluskey, 47, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004. He was born in Broward County, Florida, and was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Iris McCluskey; one daughter, Christina Bowen; two sons, Donald Smith of Monroe and Johnny Smith of Monroe; his father, Fred McCluskey of Labell, FL; five sisters, Tammie McCluskey and Susan McCluskey, both of Labell, FL, Beth Lovett of Hephzibah, Darlene Wilkerson of Metter, and Bonnie McDonald of AL; one brother, Moses Gentry of Metter; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Rosemary Baptist Church.

Annie Lois Hobbs
Annie Lois “Miss Mood” Hobbs, 90, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Candler County. She was preceded in death by her son, Willie Mood Ellis.
She is survived by several cousins including, Thelma Byrd and Alma Donalson of Metter and Janie Byrd of Trenton, N.J.; one granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel with burial in the Sams Creek Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held Wednesday (today) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and from 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Marjorie Hudson
Marjorie “Snooks” Daughtry Hudson, 79, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Candler County Hospital in Metter. The Emanuel Co. native and lifelong resident was a retired postmaster in Stillmore with 33 years of service. She was a member of the Stillmore Baptist Church and the widow of J.F. Hudson who preceded her in death by three weeks.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Paul Hudson, Pete and Donna Hudson; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Emmett Warren, all of Stillmore; one brother, Jim Daughtry of Swainsboro; one nephew and his wife, Brad and Carla Daughtry of Stillmore; granddaughters, Emily Warren and Mandy Hudson, both of Stillmore; one aunt, Cleary Slater of Tennille.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating. Burial was in the Stillmore Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald Boatright, Tommy Clark, Keith Slater, Ed Warren, Buddy Bird and Garland Collins.

Mildred Lucille White
Mildred Lucille White, 85, of Metter died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Candler General Hospital in Savannah. She was a retired nurse and a member of Cobbtown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Smith.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Marjorie White of Metter, a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Harvey Freyermuth of Guyton; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah.
Pallbearers were Mike Foran, Jimmy Butler, Dennis Bazemore, Jimmy DeBorde, David Lamm, Tony Maldonado and Johnny McElven.

Annie Lee Mikell
Annie Lee Mikell, 77, of Metter died on Saturday July 3, 2004 at Candler County Hospital. Born in Tattnall County, she lived most of her life in Metter. She was a member of the Metter Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband of fifty two years, Raymond Mikell.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Marlene Mikell of Statesboro, Jimmy and Patsy Mikell of Metter, Jack and Mary Mikell of Metter; daughters and sons-in- law, Ellen and Kenneth McEuen of Bonham, TX, Elaine and Jurue Owens and Debra and Hilton Dowd all of Metter; sister Cora Mae Mikell of Titusville, FL.; brothers, Coy Westberry and Willie Westberry both of Jacksonville, FL.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Metter Church of God with burial in the Rosemary Cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl Dowd, Kenny Andrews, Brian McGowan, Jack Westberry, Ronnie Flynt and Alton Johnson.

Robert Rucker
Robert Rucker, 35, of Metter died Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. He was a native of Emanuel County and lived most of his life in Twin City. For the past seven years he resided in Metter. He was a member of Victory Temple Church in Swainsboro.
He is survived by his father, Marion Badie of Swainsboro; his mother, Annie Rucker of Metter; one son, O’Shea Moody of Metter; five brothers, Ray Rucker of Swainsboro, Jason Kirkland of Twin City, Josh Badie, DeMarcus Badie and Frankie Badie, all of Metter; three sisters, Nora Gunn and Valerie Rucker, both of Swainsboro, Pam Badie of Metter; several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel, Whitaker Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Kirkland Cemetery in Summertown. Viewing will be held on Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and from 4-9 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Randall Hughes
Randall Hughes, 46, of Stillmore died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Candler County Hospital. The native and lifelong resident of Emanuel County was a member of Johnson Chapel Baptist Church in Garfield.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hughes of Stillmore; two daughters, Katrina Hughes and Jamay Milledge, both of Metter; one step-daughter, Angela Byrd of Metter; a sister, Annie Jean Hughes of Stillmore; nine brothers, Alphonso Hughes, L. J. Hughes, James Hughes, and Ronnie Hughes, all of Stillmore, Larry Hughes of Augusta, Devogia Hughes of Charleston, S.C., J.C. Hughes of Westbury, N.Y., Charlie Hughes and Frazier Hughes, both of Hempstead, N.Y.; five grandchildren; three aunts; three uncles; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church in Garfield with burial in the church cemetery.

Ann Imogene 'Gene' Tindol
Ann Imogene “Gene” Tindol, 87, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Metter Nursing Home. The native of Hawkinsville lived in Dublin many years before moving to Metter in 1948 and later moved to Claxton. She was a clerk with Seligman’s Department Store and retired from Claxton Bakery. She was a member of Claxton United Methodist Church, Wesleyan Service Guild and the church prayer group.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Jimmy Franklin of Metter, Tina and Odis Norris of Martin; grandson, Brett Franklin of Metter; granddaughters, Kay F. Miller of Metter and Brandie Rushing of Dallas; one sister-in-law, Francine Smith of West Palm Beach, FL; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with funeral services following at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. Burial was in North View Cemetery in Dublin at 1 p.m.

Georgia 'Eileen' Lanier
Georgia “Eileen Lanier”, 66, of Metter died July 5, 2004. She was born in Toombs County but lived most of her life in Candler County.
She worked as a sewing machine operator most of her life and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Carnie Lanier.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Stephanie Lanier; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie and Brian Daughtry and Mary Frankie Joyner, all of Metter; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Lyman Joyner of Metter, A. J. and Brenda Joyner of Griffin, Doyle and Bobbette Joyner of Middleburg, Fl.; sisters, Virginia Joyner of Metter and Irene Wynn of Odum; five grandchildren, Chris Lanier, Chelsea Lanier, Dylan Hartman, Will Daughtry and Lanie Daughtry, all of Metter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Beasley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in the Aline community.

Mary Jane McCullough Phillips, 90, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at Metter Nursing Home.
The Tattnall County native lived most of her life in Candler County. She was a nurse’s aide for 17 years at Pulaski Nursing Home and is of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Ellington Phillips.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Mack Sweatt; a grandson, Ronald Sweatt; a granddaughter, Sheila Shoemake, all of Savannah; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday (today) at 2 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with burial in Lake Cemetery. The Rev. Johnny Beasley will officiate.

Wallace T. Carter, 55, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at his home in Warner Robins. He was a mechanic and was preceded in death by his parents, James Otis and Nana Mae Carter, and a sister, Christine Carter.
He is survived by sons, Jason Carter of Lyons and Sean Carter of Warner Robins; a daughter, Tina Oglesby of Metter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Osley and Charlotte Carter of Las Vegas, Nv., James and Pat Carter of Abilene, Tx., Thomas Carter of Ft. Valley, Earl and Sue Carter of Cobbtown, Preston and Daisy Carter of Tallahassee, Fl.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Matt Rybzcyk of Highland Springs, Va., and Shirley and Mose Sapp of Metter; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Irene Brooks
Irene Brooks, 86, died Friday morning, July 16, 2004, at her home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
The Bryan County native had lived in Cobbtown for over 20 years. She was the widow of a Methodist minister, Rev. E. Harold Brooks, a member of Cobbtown United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens Club. She was precedeased by three children, Sharon, Bruce and Sandra.
She is survived by daughters, Maureen Thomas of Atwater, Ca., and Barbara Langley of Lake Worth, Fl.; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cobbtown United Methodist Church with burial in Lawrence Cemetery near Pembroke. Rev. Gary Page and Rev. Jimmy Cason officiated.
