Alan Duncan Colvin
Alan Duncan Colvin, 16, of Nicholson passed away on October 18, 2004 in Jackson County. He was born in Bulloch County on November 10, 1987, a son of Yancy Alan Colvin of Macon and Tammy Kay Strobel Colvin of Nicholson. He was a student at Jackson County Comprehensive High School. He played the saxophone in the band, was a member of Conflict Management, and the President of the Y-Club. He was an employee of Mikasa in Commerce, and a member of Grove Level Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his parents are a sister, Cindy Adamson of Toccoa; a paternal grandmother, Charlene Colvin of Metter; six aunts, Cindy Thomas of Norwood, OH, Darlene Black of Savannah, Vicki Worley of Knoxville, TN, Tina Hook of Statesboro, Marty Colvin of Baxley and Allison Nelson of Homerville.
Funeral services were held on Thursday at Grove Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Appling and Rev. Jeff Williams officiating.

Ollie Smith
Ollie Smith, 89, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Decatur Hospital in Decatur after a brief illness.
The Montgomery County native resided in Candler County for 54 years. During that time, he was a master barber and an avid farmer. He also retired from Georgia Southern University after 13 years as a custodian.
Mr. Smith was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Register and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthie Williams Smith.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Freddie and Marilyn Smith of Miami, Fl., and Henry and Denise Smith of Decatur; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Sadie Bennett of Miami, Fl., Ollie and Anthony Gould of Clinton, Md., Ola and Willie Wright of Byron, Betty S. and William Greene of McDonough, Evelyn Smith of Stone Mountain, Emma S. and Larry Mincey of Lithonia, and Carol S. and Sammy Johnson of College Park; an adopted daughter, Ethel Ford of Lyons; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Lakeside First Baptist Church in Metter, with burial following in the church cemetery. Mr. Smith will lie in state from noon until the hour of the funeral on Thursday at Lakeside First Baptist Church.
Viewing will be Wednesday (today) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4-8 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Burton Aldrich
Burton Aldrich, 63, of Metter died Oct. 13, 2004, at his residence. A native of Candler County, he was a retired truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth Rodgers Aldrich; a son, Richard Burton Aldrich; his parents, W. B. ‘Bill’ Aldrich and Florrie C. Aldrich; a sister, Bonita Smith; and brothers, Lewis Aldrich, Cecil Aldrich and Harold Aldrich.
He is survived by a daughter, Dana Aldrich Wilcox of Jacksonville, Fl.; a sister, Evelyn Miles of North Augusta, S.C.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Joyce Aldrich of Metter, Freddie and Sybil Aldrich of Metter and Clayton Aldrich of Metter; sisters-in-law, Janette Aldrich and Angie Aldrich, both of Metter, and Elizabeth Aldrich of Augusta; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. at Metter Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Beasley and the Rev. Bobbie Dismuke officiating. Burial was in Primitive Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Aldrich, Craig Aldrich, Stevie Aldrich, Mike Aldrich, Mark Aldrich, Broadus Aldrich and Kenneth Beasley.

Andrew “Joe” Yates III
Andrew “Joe” Yates III, 51, died Wednesday at his home. The Bibb Co. native lived most of his in Soperton moving to Metter four years ago. He had been employed in the insurance field and was an artist who worked with pen and ink drawing. He loved to collect lighthouses and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church and the Masonic Lodge in Soperton. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Andrew Joseph Yates Jr. and Harriet Yates, and a brother, James Roy Yates.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda Purcell Yates of Metter; step-son and fiancé, Timothy Sears and Elizabeth Carter of Waycross; a brother, Harrison Dent Yates Sr. of Dublin; a sister Harriet Yates Brantley of Woolrich, PA; a step-grandson, Mason Carter of Waycross; a god-daughter, Lauren L. Yates; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Sunday at Westview Cemetery in Soperton. Rev. Lynnwood Yates officiated.
Pallbearers were Billy Freeman, Donnie Gillis, Gene Green, Bill Landers, Grayle Moxley, Sammy Young and Glen Powell.

Patricia Reardon Sikes
Patricia Reardon Sikes, 50, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at her home. She was born in Chicago and moved to Metter in 1959. A 1972 Metter High School graduate, she retired as manager of First Franklin Financial. She attended the Freewill Baptist Church and liked to crochet and collect pig figurines and loved her dog, Doppie. She was predeceased by her parents, Don and Ida Reardon and a brother, Timothy Reardon.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and John Lanier; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol R. and Johnny Goodman; granddaughters, Kayla and Layni Lanier, all of Metter.
Memorial services were held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Charles Beasley officiating.

Cicero Washington “C.W.” Brooks
Cicero Washington “C.W.” Brooks, 81, of Milledgeville died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004.
Services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Freedom Church with Rev. Wendell Thomas and Elder Kurt Bacon officiating. Burial followed at Scenic Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Brooks was a native of Jefferson County but had made his home in Milledgeville for many years. He was retired from Central State Hospital with 34 years of service. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of Freedom Church.
Survivors include his wife Vashti Brooks of Milledgeville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Janice Brooks and Dean and Carol Brooks, all of Milledgeville; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and James Roberson, Janice White and her daughter Brandy, Jean and Curtis Babb, and Penny Schneider, all of Milledgeville, Judy and Tom Hutcheson of Tennille, Annett and Kurt Bacon of Barnesville; brothers, Howard Brooks, Shirley Brooks, George Brooks and Mack Brooks, all of Milledgeville; sisters, Faye Quinn and Betty Batson, both of Milledgeville; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sammy A. Nelson Jr.
Sammy A. Nelson Jr., 75, of Twin City died Sunday, October 24, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro. He was a native of Emanuel County and a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Twin City. He resided in Vero Beach, FL for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Oma Mack of Twin City; one son, George Mack of Orlando, FL; three daughters, Clara Nelson and Donna Mack, both of Twin City and Kathy Mack of Swainsboro; two brothers, Eddie Mack of Twin City and James Nelson of Memphis, TN; one sister, Isabel Daniels of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 at St. James A.M.E. Church. Burial will be in the Rountree Chapel Church Cemetery in Twin city. Wake service will be held on Friday, from 6-7 p.m. at the W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel, Whitaker Funeral Home in Metter.

William Daniel “Billy” Mikell
William Daniel “Billy” Mikell, 67, died Monday, November 1, 2004 at Metter Nursing Home. The Candler Co. native was a master carpenter. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Edward Mikell and Mary Lou Robbins Mikell. He enjoyed outdoor sports and especially loved hunting and fishing. He also loved to work with wood and enjoyed looking for and collecting arrowheads and old coins. He was a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda H. Mikell of Metter; daughters, Rhonda M. Jones of Stockbridge, Dana M. Bloods-worth of Hammond, LA, and Dawn Mikell of Metter; a son, Andy Mikell of Metter; three sisters, Elizabeth M. Herrington of Savannah, Brenda M. Paige of Twin City and Donna M. Lynn of Register; four grandsons; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Delores Teubert
Delores Teubert, 70, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Candler County Hospital.
A Michigan native, she lived in Metter for 14 years after moving here from Dundee, Fl. She was retired from Sears Roebuck Company after 21 years. She loved working with children at local orphanages and volunteered at Metter Nursing Home. She was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and was predeceased by her husband, Carl Teubert, and a daughter, Susan Wood.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Teubert of Winter Haven, Fl., and a son-in-law, Joe Wood of Metter.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. at Cool Springs Cemetery.

James Lanier
James Lanier, 50, of Metter died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Candler County and attended the public schools of Candler County. He was a member of Steep Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Cobbtown. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Lanier Sr., a brother, Carlton Lanier, and a sister, Mary Lanier Parks.
He is survived by his mother, Rosetta Lanier of Metter; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert Lanier Jr., John and Jennifer Lanier, and Willie C. Lanier, all of Metter, Larry and Wendy Lanier of Rincon, Paul Lanier of Bridgeport, Ct., and James Lanier of Statesboro; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda and Levon Byrd of Beaufort, S.C., and Joann Lanier of Metter; seven aunts; 10 uncles; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at W. H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel, Whitaker Funeral Home, with burial in Lakeside First Baptist Church Cemetery. A wake service will be held on Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Ollie Mae Collins, 50, of Metter died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Candler County Hospital.
The Jenkins County native attended the public schools of Candler County and was a resident of Metter for most of her life. She was a member of High Street Baptist Church in Metter.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Banner, and her grandmother, Rosie Mae Brown.
She is survived by a son, Cornelius Collins of Metter; a daughter, Y-Lee C. Freeman of Fayetteville, N.C.; a brother, Simmie Jackson of Metter; three sisters, Martha Williams and Johnnie Gainer, both of Metter, and Rosa Williams of Twin City; two grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at High Street Baptist Church with burial in Gordon Grove Church Cemetery in Jenkins County.
