William F. ‘Billy’ Mullis
William F. ‘Billy’ Mullis of Metter died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, following a short illness.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gwendolyn Mullis; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jack Hollingsworth; sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Mullis and Clifton and Darlene Mullis; two grandchildren, Adam Hurst and Krista Terno; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no services. He was cremated, and his ashes will remain with his wife until her passing.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Chatuge Regional Nursing Home, in care of Rita Bradshaw, 110 Main St., PO Box 509, Hiawassee GA 30546.

Gwendolyn Bennett Mullis
Gwendolyn Rose Bennett Mullis, 75, of Metter died on Nov. 16, 2004, in Hiawassee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Billy Mullis, also of Metter. She was a member of Metter Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Hollingsworth of Cumming; two sons, Michael Mullis of Douglas and Clifton Mullis of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Krista Terry of Cleveland, Adam Hurst of Cumming, Allison Kernell of Locust Grove, Greg Hollingsworth and Jeff Hollingsworth of Atlanta, and one great-grandchild, J.C. Bennett of Cumming.
A graveside memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m. at Lake Church Cemetery.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of arrangements.

Freddie Anderson
Freddie Boyett Kangeter Anderson, 94, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Metter Nursing Home.
The Bulloch County native lived in Candler County most of her life. She retired after 30 years as a cook for Pulaski Nursing Home. She was a wonderful homemaker and a member of Pulaski Baptist Church. She was the widow of Melvin Kangeter and Julian G. Anderson.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Wilma Kangeter of Avon Park, Fl., James and Virginia Kangeter of Metter and Russell Kangeter of Pulaski; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Earl Cook of Pulaski; two step-children, Louise Anderson Massey of Pennsylvania and Grady Anderson of Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pulaski Baptist Church with burial in the Lower Lotts Cemetery. The Rev. Byron Twigg and Elder Michael Newman officiated.
Pallbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Jimmy Kangeter, Patrick Kangeter, Rusty Kangeter, Stevie Williams, Lynn Morris, Marty Todd, Andy Kraske and T.J. Kinyon.
Remembrances can be made to Pulaski Baptist Church, PO Box 66, Pulaski GA 30451.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter was in charge of arrangements.

SMSGT Richard E. Steele
SMSGT Richard E. Steele, 76, died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The Washington, D.C. native was retired from the U.S. Airforce and lived in Florida many years before moving to Lyons in 1989 and Metter in 1997. He enjoyed singing for the elderly and was a member of the Singing Churchman at the Lyons Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Terry Moore Steele; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Jr. and Carol Steele of Whitmire, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Elizabeth and Ronald Pochron of Greenbay, WI; two grandchildren, Paul Dillon of Kalamazoo, MI and Catrina Elizabeth McLeod of Metter; great-granddaughter, Regan Elizabeth Dillon.
Pallbearers were Randy Strange, Herman Strange, Jackie Sanders, Shane Sanders, Verlon Beasley and Hubert Daughtry. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Metter Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Metter Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Sheldon Mikell officiating. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Remembrances can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Metter Primitive Baptist Church, P.O. Box 672, Metter, GA 30439.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Collins Wrenn
Irene Collins Wrenn, 83, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Bethany Home of Vidalia. She was a native of Tattnall Co. and a retired seamstress for RoseBud Manufacturing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia and a former member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Clinton Lamar Wrenn Sr.
She is survived by four sons, Clinton L. Wrenn Jr. of Baxley; Alan V. Wrenn and Elvin Wrenn, both of Vidalia and Keith Wrenn of Buford; three daughters, Amanda Wrenn of Vidalia, Faye Mann of Lawrenceville and Janice W. Butler of Vidalia; a sister, Imogene Wrenn of Collins; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Earl Hendrix, Bobby Wrenn, Biram Chapman, Vernon Gordy, Lynwood Wrenn, and Mark Hudson.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Don Moye officiating. Burial was in Cedar Creek Cemetery.

Elton R. ‘Bug’ Dickerson
Elton Richard ‘Bug’ Dickerson, 58, of Byron, formerly of Metter, died Nov. 7, 2004, at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Dickerson of Byron; a son, Eric Dickerson of Eatonton; a daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Twila, Jason and Brittany Forbes of Elizabeth City, N.C.; and brothers, Willie Dickerson and Edward Dick-erson, both of Metter, and Julius Dickerson of Garden City.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Louis Pearce officiating. Burial was in Lake Cemetery in Metter.
Pallbearers were Ed Dickerson Jr., Randy Dickerson, David Dickerson, Wally Odum, James Slater, Mack Snipes and Steven Dickerson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Thomas C. Burke Foundation, 804 Cherry St., Macon GA 31201.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of arrangements.

James Clay
James Clay, 74, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fl.
The Jefferson County native had resided in Titusville since 1956. He was the son of the late John Henry and Annie Clay.
He is survived by his wife, Lizzie Clay of Titusville, Fl.; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Sabrina Clay of Valdosta; five brothers, Charles Clay of Titusville, Fl., Frank Clay and Sylvester Clay, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., William Clay and King S. Clay, both of Metter; five sisters, Mary Wimbley, Josephine Duval and Mary Pearl Coleman, all of Ft. Lauderdale, Leoma Richardson of Titusville, and Annie Mae Clay of Vidalia; four aunts and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at St. James AME Church in Titusville. Visitation was held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home in Metter. Burial followed at Eden Church Cemetery in Louisville.
Lewis-Ray Mortuary in Titusville and Whitaker Funeral Home of Metter were in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Lanore Prine Lockwood
Ruth Lanore Prine Lockwood, 84, of Statesboro died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Brown County, Ohio. A longtime resident of New Orleans, she moved to Statesboro in 2001. She retired from teaching in the New Orleans Public School System in 1980 and was a dedicated Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader. A graduate of Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, she was a member of Ohio Genealogy Society and a member of Peace Parrish Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Lockwood was a beloved wife and mother and was predeceased by her husband, John Donald Lockwood Jr., and a son, James Phillip Lockwood.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Larry and Donna Lockwood Marsh of New Orleans, La., and Cleon and Carol Lockwood Dean of Statesboro; grandchildren, Robert Marsh, Lawrence Marsh Jr. and Donna Marsh Howard, all of New Orleans; four great-grandchildren, Brandi Lynn Marsh, Kristen Michelle Howard, Cristopher Richard Howard Jr., and Gregory James Howard; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Carl and Nancy Lockwood Dolce of Raleigh, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Carla Dolce Stavridis of Greece and John Lockwood Dolce of Raleigh.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 13, at 3 p.m. at Lakelawn Cemetery Chapel in Metairie, La.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Smith Waters Lewis
Annie Smith Waters Lewis, 95, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at NorthSpring Assisted Living in Claxton.
The Tattnall County native lived most of her life in Tattnall and Chatham counties. She also had lived in Statesboro and Florida. She retired as director of admissions at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. A member of Eastern Star and Leefield Baptist Church, she was a former member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She loved cake decorating and was the widow of Wiley E. Waters and Paul Lewis.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and JoFaun Waters of Statesboro; a step-daughter and her husband, Patricia and Jim Leathers of Atlanta; grandchildren, Kevin and Candace Waters and Kelly and Blake McMillan; step-grandchildren, Leann and Robert Lutz and Susan and Denver Clark; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial following in Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro.
Remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, PO Box 531, Statesboro GA 30458.
