Roland Morgan
Roland Morgan, 74, of Vidalia died on Saturday, February 5, 2005, at Meadows Regional Center. Born in Emanuel County, he was the son of the late Glover Morgan and Idel Durden Morgan. He was a retired Army Masters Sergeant with 20 years of service. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was Baptist in faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Morgan.
He is survived by a sister, Minnielu Bell of Metter; a sister-in-law, Billie Morgan of Brooklet; a loving companion, Dean Wright of Vidalia; special friends, Debbie and Charles Garrett, Bobbie Phillips and their families, all of Vidalia; several nieces and nephews; and a canine companion, B.B.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Emanuel County with full military honors.

John Charles Griffin Sr.
John Charles Griffin Sr., 64, of Elberton died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Anderson, S.C.
Born in Candler County, he was a son of the late Charlie Griffin and Blonnie Cartee Griffin. He was a member of Lake Primitive Baptist Church and a retired welder. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Griffin, and a sister and brother-in-law, Juanita G. and Tom C. Hodges.
He is survived by his wife, Paula McCurly Griffin; one daughter, Jamie Shirrazy of Savannah; three sons, John C. Griffin Jr. of Savannah, David Griffin of Atlanta and Michael Griffin of Statesboro; a nephew, Leonard C. Hodges of Alto; a niece, Nita Marie Hodges of Elberton; two grandchildren and several great-aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lake Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Randy Waters officiating. Burial followed in Lake Cemetery.

Hosea Eugene Cox
Hosea Eugene Cox, 84, of Pulaski died on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
A native of Nassau, Bahamas, he was born to Bejamin and Alice Cox on Dec. 27, 1921. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He and his wife operated a laundry service through Wash-a-Ton in Metter.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Louise Washington-Cox of Cobbtown; five sons, Herbert Black of Riveria Beach, Fl., Henry James Burroughs of West Palm Beach, Fl., Valton Burroughs of West Palm Beach, Fl., Ronnie Burroughs of Metter and Chris Burroughs of New York, N.Y.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Ollie Shirley of Indiantown, Fl., Barbara Jean of Avon Park, Fl., Crystal and Everald Rattary of West Palm Beach, Fl., Yvette and Leon Thompson of Valdosta; three brothers and one sister in Nassau, Bahamas; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Cox of Salisbury, Md.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. with Bishop Holland officiating.

Zunell ‘Nell’ Daniels Webb
Zunell “Nell” Daniels Webb, 80, of Twin City died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005.
The native of Emanuel Co. lived all of her life there. She was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church for many years and a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Linda Webb of Twin City, Jerry and Rena Webb of Cobbtown, and Ike and Leigh Webb of Twin City; a sister, Jeanette Johnson of Atlanta; grandchildren, Monica Dorner, Jill Ann Carter, Jeri Kay Webb, Maggie Hadden, Jay Webb, Clair Webb, Taylor Webb, Reid Webb, and Jeb Webb; and great- grandchildren, Ethan Dorner, Jacob Dorner, Sara Kate Carter, and Reese Hadden.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at El Bethel Baptist Church near Twin City with burial in the church cemetery.

Marie Guarascio
Marie Guarascio, 96, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005.
The Monessen, Pa., native lived several years in Pennsylvania before moving to the Marietta area. She moved to Metter a year ago and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She graduated from California State Teacher’s College, taught middle school, was an aide in her daughter’s kindergarten class and loved to crochet.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tim Edgar of Metter; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis A. and Nancy Guarascio of Marietta; grandchildren, Terri Edgar Deadwyler, Lynn Edgar Turner, Jennifer Edgar Valentine, and Timothy Louis Edgar Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Bessie Miles McCullough
Bessie Miles McCullough, 89, of Metter died on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Candler County Hospital.
A native of Candler County, she was a retired health care provider. She was a member of Metter Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Shirley Douglas of Jacksonville, Fl., and Marie Del Sardo of Metter; sisters, Eldra Faircloth of Frostproof, Fl., and Theola Boyett of Claxton; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scott Doyle, Glenn Turner, George McGowan, Paul Greene, Bill Bird and Chris Berry.

Willie Maude Berry Wood
Willie Maude Berry Wood, 77, died Feb. 14, 2005, in Augusta.
The native of Candler County had lived in Louisville for the past 18 years. The former member of Pine Grove Baptist Church is now a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Graniteville, S.C., a homemaker, and a good cook and was retired from Thermo Disc of Aiken, S.C. She was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Wilbur Berry Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Silas Wood of Louisville; sons, Earl Berry of Cobbtown, Glenn Berry of Metter, Jeffery Berry of Bath, S.C.; daughters, Ann Blocker of Louisville, Delann Beasley of Graniteville, S.C., and Donna Collins of Bath, S.C.; step-daughters, Rose Tullis and Pamela Rawls, both of Aiken, S.C.; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Morgan Family Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Don Berry, Elmer Berry, Jason Berry, Ricky Patrick, Scott Baker, and Chad Blocker.

Emylu Kathryn Trapnell Jenkins Woody
Emylu Kathryn Trapnell Jenkins Woody, 100, of Statesboro died Feb. 13, 2005. Daughter of the late Harlie Lloyd Trapnell and Lucy Lee Lanier, she was born in Pulaski, Bulloch County, on Oct. 26, 1904 and was a Baptist.
A 1923 graduate of Statesboro High School, she attended Georgia State Woman’s College at Valdosta.
Mrs. Woody moved to Atlanta in 1927 and was bookkeeper for General Motors from 1928 to 1941 when she married Dr. M. K. Jenkins. After his death in 1956, she married Rev. W. E. Woody in 1958. Upon his death Mrs. Woody returned to States-boro in 1994.
She is predeceased by two brothers, Rodney Lemuel Trapnell and Buel Lanier Trapnell, and a sister, Edith Del Patrick.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Buel (Kathryn) Trapnell of Redford, Mi.; seven nieces and nephews, Buel Lanier Trapnell of Phoenix, Az., Fred Trapnell of Cave Creek, Az., Diane LeFranc of Louisville, Ky., Barbara Rzepecki of Northville, Mi., Patrick Trapnell and Carol Trapnell,both of Redford, Mi., and Sandra Head of Big Spring, Tx.; and close friends Norma Pugh of Statesboro and Ben Pugh of Denver, Co.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with burial in Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral time.

Ollie Mae Mathis
Ollie Mae Mathis, 88, of Dade City, FL passed away on Monday, February 7, 2005, at home with her family around her. She was a native of the Aline community and was the daughter of the late Bill and Lou Murray Cobb. She moved to Dade City in 1951. She was a homemaker and a member of Enterprise Baptist Church for many years. A devoted wife and mother, she loved the Lord, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newborn Mathis and a son, Loyd Mathis.
Survivors include three children, Hazel Simpson of Melbourne, FL, Barbara Tucker of Dade City and Johnny Mathis of Dade City; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in the Metter area.
Funeral services were held at Enterprise Baptist Church with Pastor Sydney Bronson officiating. Burial was in Dade City Cemetery.

Lucille Green
Lucille Green, 88, of Cobbtown died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Metter Nursing Home.
She was the daughter of the late J.A. Green and Anna McGahee Green and was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Louis Green of Cobbtown and Sam Green of Claxton, and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday at Evergreen Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hal Powell, Green Thrift, Wayne Crider, Sandy Sanders, Brian Green and George Green.

Lester James Hadden
Lester James Hadden, 88, of Ludowici died Thursday after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native and former resident of Early County had lived in Long County the past four and one-half years. He was a retired farmer and attended Ludowici Church of God.
He is survived by a son, Eddie Lewis Hadden of Blakely; a brother and sister-in-law, Cleo and Emma Hadden of Ludowici; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harris Nix officiating. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. at Lake Cemetery in Candler County.
Active pallbearers were Robert Middleton, Larry Middleton, Leonard Hughes, Jacob Pitts, Leroy Hutcheson, and Tony Fowler.
