Jannie Lue Davis
Jannie Lue Davis, 60, of Metter died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Candler County Hospital after an extended illness.
The Bulloch County native lived most of her adult life in Candler County and was a member of Lakeside First Baptist Church in Metter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darvin Davis, and her daughter, Shirley Rock Coney.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Mincey of Statesboro; a brother, Leroy Moore of Pulaski; a sister, Sarah McCormick of Metter; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Moore of Pulaski and Dora Moore of Swainsboro; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Lakeside First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4-8 p.m.

Lottie Mae Oliver Powell
Lottie Mae Oliver Powell, 91, died Friday, February 25, 2005, at her home. The Tattnall Co. native and lifelong resident was a homemaker and worked many years at the dry cleaners with her best friend. She attended the Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church and loved to crochet, quilt and fish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Powell and her parents, Perry and Virginia Powell Oliver.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, John Rewis, Edward and Judy Rewis, Ernest and Mary Collins, all of Reidsville, Phil and Sandra Collins of Collins; three daughters, Willodean Kersey, Carolyn Anderson, both of Collins, and Barbara Bell of Albany; a sister, Hilma Jarriel of Townsend; 33 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, at 3 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Rev. Varney Aspinwall and Rev. Greg Smith officiated.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mark Allan Underwood
Mark Allan Underwood, 41, died Saturday, February 26, 2005. The Homestead, FL native moved to Metter several years ago. He was a produce salesman, working with Hendrix Produce, and later Oconee River Produce, and was a member of the Metter United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his family, coaching children’s sports, and always enjoyed making everyone laugh with his great sense of humor. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, and worked for a period of time at BJ’s Sport Store.
Survivors are his wife, Terri Underwood; two children, Amanda Gayle Underwood and Jesse Allan Underwood, all of Metter; his parents, Allan and Dorothy Underwood, of Homestead, FL; a brother, Paul Underwood of Homestead, FL; a sister, Robbie Mock, of Homestead, FL; and parents-in-law, Arvil and Jeanette Barton, of Pisgah Forest, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday (today) at 11:00 a.m. at Metter United Methodist Church, with burial in the Primitive Grove Cemetery. Ministers will be Buddy Whatley, Owen Williams, Teddy Underwood, Roland Underwood, Myron Wise, and Dale Taylor.
Pallbearers will be Jamey Underwood, Jody Underwood, Jeff Underwood, Tony Gunter, Ivan Wise, Ricky Wilson, Clyde Little, Bill Smallwood, Rusty Kangeter, and Jerry Holloway. Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan Mock and Michael Holloway.

Annies Elizabeth Barber
Annies Elizabeth Barber, 84, of Metter died on February 22, 2005 at Metter Nursing Home. Born in Emanuel County, she lived all of her life in Candler County. She was retired from the Candler County School System and was a member of Metter Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Caley Lee Barber.
She is survived by a son, Jimmie Lee Barber of Metter; three daughters, Ann Barber, Bonnie Tatum, and Brenda Brown, all of Metter; 12 grandchilren; and 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Metter Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in Cool Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Martin Barron, Larry Hodges, Billy Lariscey, Leroy Lariscey, Keith Lariscey and Jimmy Page.

Pearlie Drummer
Pearlie Drummer, 98, of Metter died Saturday, February 26, 2005, at the Candler County Hospital. She was a native of Bulloch County and spent several years in Savannah and Miami, Fl. She resided in Metter for the past 35 years. She was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Register.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Reed of Metter and William Reed of Montclair, NJ; fifteen grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 12 noon at New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Register. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Wake service will be on Friday, March 4, from 7-8 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Harold Normal Brantley
Harold Norman Brantley, 74, of Millen died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005.
He was a native of Candler County, a U.S. Navy veteran, a graduate of the University of Georgia, a retired County Extension agent and a deacon and member of Millen Baptist Church.
Mr. Brantley had also served as president of the Millen Rotary Club, chairman of the Jenkins County Commission and was a past-president of the Association of County Extension Agents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy E. and Alice Brantley and his son, Chris Brantley.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Parker Brantley; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Don Starkweather of Dunnellon, Fl.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip Brantley of Ft. Myers, Fl., and Jeff and Angie Brantley of Millen; a daughter-in-law, Lynda Brantley of Knoxville, Tn.; a brother, Bobby Brantley of Savannah; two sisters, Bernice Rei of Baltimore, Md., and Mary Bland of Tallahassee, Fl.; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh and Jason Brantley of Knoxville, Tn., Collette Brantley of Ft. Myers, Fl., and Steven Brantley of Millen.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Millen Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Hood and Dr. Maurice Crowder officiating.
Pallbearers were William Gunn, Bill Miller, Dobson Gay, Bobby Dwelle, Leon Burch and Reabon Amerson.

James O. Smith
James O. Smith, 65, of Metter died Sunday, February 27, 2005. He lived in Valdosta most of his life before moving to Metter one year ago. He was a construction worker with Owens-Illinois for many years and was a Baptist.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Callie and Glenn Moore; sons, James O. Smith Jr. and Jessie Smith, all of Valdosta; a brother, George W. Smith of Lake Mary, Fl; a sister, Marjorie Hall of Blairsville; three grandchildren, Austin Smith, Caleb Moore and Gabe Moore; one niece and three nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday at Sunset Hill Cemetery near Valdosta.

Ruby McCranie McCall
Ruby McCranie McCall, 73, of Cobbtown died Friday, February 25, 2005, at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul McCall Jr. on Jan. 27, 2005.
She is survived by sons, William H. Collins of Ackworth, Bobby Collins, Joe Collins and Ira Collins, all of Jacksonville, sisters, Martha Landrum of Metter and Jane Gibbs of Fresno, CA; brothers, Mac McCranie of Metter and Roy McCraine of Lorida, Fl; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday at Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Sunlight Cemetery in Cobbtown.
Pallbearers were Jeff McCranie, Jeremy McCranie, Ben McCranie, Randy Moore, Scott Padgett and Wayne Kersey.

Jessie Carter
Jessie Carter, 87, of Metter died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Pleasant View Healthcare Center. The Emanuel County native lived in Candler County for most of her life. She was a member of Treemont Temple Baptist Church in Metter. She was preceded in death by a son, Booker T. Williams.
Survivors include one son, Jestin Williams of Albany, NY; one brother, Buddy Jones of Swainsboro; one sister, Annie Byrd of Metter; 17 grandchildren, including Bookter T. Hobbs and his wife, Pamela of Metter; 23 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5 at Lakeside First Baptist Church in Metter. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

H.L. Lanigan
H.L. Lanigan, 81, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Candler County Hospital. The Bulloch County native was a veteran of World War II serving in the Infantry Division. He moved to Savannah in 1941. He retired from the Federal Civil Service as a heavy equipment mechanic working at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, S.C. He moved to Metter in 1983 and attended Lake Primitive Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Brotherhood.
He is survived by his wife, Donnie Jo Rivenbark Lanigan of Metter; two sisters, Lena Mae Brown of Galveston, TX and Rebecca Wilson of Jacksonville, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel with Elder Randy Waters and elder Tom Deal officiating. Burial was in Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stevie Lanigan, Timmy Lanigan, Wayne Rivenbark, Timmy Sikes, Carroll Sikes Jr. and Kent Campbell.

Ouida Mae Haines
Ouida Mae Haines, 84, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005 in Moultrie. The Tattnall Co. native moved to Moultrie 33 years ago after living in Savannah many years and working as a cashier at grocery stores. She loved dancing, fishing and her flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Haines; her parents, Heery Washington Collins and Beulah Sikes Collins; a brother, Harry Collins; and sisters, Neilous Rutledge and Mary Wilson.
She is survived by her brother and two sisters-in-law, G.W. “Junior” and Delma Collins of Cobbtown and Alyne Colins of Edgefield, S.C.; a brother-in-law, Marion “Rut” Rutledge of Cobbtown; and special friends, Nell Jenkins and Pearly Buns, both of Moultrie; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Gary Page officiating. Burial will be in Sunlight Cemetery. Visistation will be Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jimmy E. Glisson
Jimmy E. Glisson, 60, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at his home. The Tattnall co. native was a lifelong resident and a member of the Collins Baptist Church. He was a special person who cared for his mother until her death and took care of the family home. He was much loved and served as an inspiration to his entire family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Annie Maude G. Glisson.
He is survived by his brother, Robert G. “Jerry” Glisson and wife, Barbara of Statesboro; two sisters, Anne and Jack Jarriel of Aiken, S.C. and Jane Grinstead of Tucker; seven nieces and nephews; ten great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday at Collins Baptist Church with Rev. Warren E. Tarno officiating and with burial in the church cemetery.
Nephews, Brett Jarriel, Mark Jarriel, Richard Glisson, Bill Grinstead, Todd Von Waldner and Phil Luton, served as pallbearers.
