Wylan Yvonne Tarver Nesmith
Wylan Yvonne Tarver Nesmith, 74, formerly of Apopka, FL and a resident of the Campbellsville Pike in the Southport Community died Monday, May 2, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital.
The Metter native was the duaghter of the late Troupe and Pearl Hodges Tarver and was the widow of James Edward Nesmith, who died in 1997. She was a homemaker and former employee of Fernwood Nurseries in Zellwood, FL. She was a member of the Baptist Church and loved fishing. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Stevie Wedge and a brother, James Tarver.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sandy Nesmith of Sorrento, FL; eight daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Kicklighter of Collins; Liz Wedge, Darlene Hughes, Linda and Bob Darnell, all of Apopka, FL, Teresa Chalker of Clermont, FL, Denise Baldree of Gainesville, FL, Tammy Evans of Sorrento, FL and Deborah and Sonny LaFave of Culleoka, TN; 26 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Thursday, at Rosemary Cemetery with Rev. Lawrence Jarriel officiating.

Marie Guarascio
Marie Guarascio, 96, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005.
The Monessen, Pa., native lived several years in Pennsylvania before moving to the Marietta area. She moved to Metter a year ago and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She graduated from California State Teacher’s College, taught middle school, was an aide in her daughter’s kindergarten class and loved to crochet.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tim Edgar of Metter; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis A. and Nancy Guarascio of Marietta; grandchildren, Terri Edgar Deadwyler, Lynn Edgar Turner, Jennifer Edgar Valentine, and Timothy Louis Edgar Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Bessie Miles McCullough
Bessie Miles McCullough, 89, of Metter died on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Candler County Hospital.
A native of Candler County, she was a retired health care provider. She was a member of Metter Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Shirley Douglas of Jacksonville, Fl., and Marie Del Sardo of Metter; sisters, Eldra Faircloth of Frostproof, Fl., and Theola Boyett of Claxton; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scott Doyle, Glenn Turner, George McGowan, Paul Greene, Bill Bird and Chris Berry.

Willie Maude Berry Wood
Willie Maude Berry Wood, 77, died Feb. 14, 2005, in Augusta.
The native of Candler County had lived in Louisville for the past 18 years. The former member of Pine Grove Baptist Church is now a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Graniteville, S.C., a homemaker, and a good cook and was retired from Thermo Disc of Aiken, S.C. She was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Wilbur Berry Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Silas Wood of Louisville; sons, Earl Berry of Cobbtown, Glenn Berry of Metter, Jeffery Berry of Bath, S.C.; daughters, Ann Blocker of Louisville, Delann Beasley of Graniteville, S.C., and Donna Collins of Bath, S.C.; step-daughters, Rose Tullis and Pamela Rawls, both of Aiken, S.C.; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Morgan Family Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Don Berry, Elmer Berry, Jason Berry, Ricky Patrick, Scott Baker, and Chad Blocker.

Emylu Kathryn Trapnell Jenkins Woody
Emylu Kathryn Trapnell Jenkins Woody, 100, of Statesboro died Feb. 13, 2005. Daughter of the late Harlie Lloyd Trapnell and Lucy Lee Lanier, she was born in Pulaski, Bulloch County, on Oct. 26, 1904 and was a Baptist.
A 1923 graduate of Statesboro High School, she attended Georgia State Woman’s College at Valdosta.
Mrs. Woody moved to Atlanta in 1927 and was bookkeeper for General Motors from 1928 to 1941 when she married Dr. M. K. Jenkins. After his death in 1956, she married Rev. W. E. Woody in 1958. Upon his death Mrs. Woody returned to States-boro in 1994.
She is predeceased by two brothers, Rodney Lemuel Trapnell and Buel Lanier Trapnell, and a sister, Edith Del Patrick.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Buel (Kathryn) Trapnell of Redford, Mi.; seven nieces and nephews, Buel Lanier Trapnell of Phoenix, Az., Fred Trapnell of Cave Creek, Az., Diane LeFranc of Louisville, Ky., Barbara Rzepecki of Northville, Mi., Patrick Trapnell and Carol Trapnell,both of Redford, Mi., and Sandra Head of Big Spring, Tx.; and close friends Norma Pugh of Statesboro and Ben Pugh of Denver, Co.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 11 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with burial in Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral time.

Ollie Mae Mathis
Ollie Mae Mathis, 88, of Dade City, FL passed away on Monday, February 7, 2005, at home with her family around her. She was a native of the Aline community and was the daughter of the late Bill and Lou Murray Cobb. She moved to Dade City in 1951. She was a homemaker and a member of Enterprise Baptist Church for many years. A devoted wife and mother, she loved the Lord, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newborn Mathis and a son, Loyd Mathis.
Survivors include three children, Hazel Simpson of Melbourne, FL, Barbara Tucker of Dade City and Johnny Mathis of Dade City; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in the Metter area.
Funeral services were held at Enterprise Baptist Church with Pastor Sydney Bronson officiating. Burial was in Dade City Cemetery.

Lucille Green
Lucille Green, 88, of Cobbtown died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Metter Nursing Home.
She was the daughter of the late J.A. Green and Anna McGahee Green and was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Louis Green of Cobbtown and Sam Green of Claxton, and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday at Evergreen Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hal Powell, Green Thrift, Wayne Crider, Sandy Sanders, Brian Green and George Green.

Lester James Hadden
Lester James Hadden, 88, of Ludowici died Thursday after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native and former resident of Early County had lived in Long County the past four and one-half years. He was a retired farmer and attended Ludowici Church of God.
He is survived by a son, Eddie Lewis Hadden of Blakely; a brother and sister-in-law, Cleo and Emma Hadden of Ludowici; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harris Nix officiating. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. at Lake Cemetery in Candler County.
Active pallbearers were Robert Middleton, Larry Middleton, Leonard Hughes, Jacob Pitts, Leroy Hutcheson, and Tony Fowler.

Jannie Lue Davis
Jannie Lue Davis, 60, of Metter died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Candler County Hospital after an extended illness.
The Bulloch County native lived most of her adult life in Candler County and was a member of Lakeside First Baptist Church in Metter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darvin Davis, and her daughter, Shirley Rock Coney.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Mincey of Statesboro; a brother, Leroy Moore of Pulaski; a sister, Sarah McCormick of Metter; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Moore of Pulaski and Dora Moore of Swainsboro; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Lakeside First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4-8 p.m.

Lottie Mae Oliver Powell
Lottie Mae Oliver Powell, 91, died Friday, February 25, 2005, at her home. The Tattnall Co. native and lifelong resident was a homemaker and worked many years at the dry cleaners with her best friend. She attended the Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church and loved to crochet, quilt and fish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Powell and her parents, Perry and Virginia Powell Oliver.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, John Rewis, Edward and Judy Rewis, Ernest and Mary Collins, all of Reidsville, Phil and Sandra Collins of Collins; three daughters, Willodean Kersey, Carolyn Anderson, both of Collins, and Barbara Bell of Albany; a sister, Hilma Jarriel of Townsend; 33 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, at 3 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Rev. Varney Aspinwall and Rev. Greg Smith officiated.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mark Allan Underwood
Mark Allan Underwood, 41, died Saturday, February 26, 2005. The Homestead, FL native moved to Metter several years ago. He was a produce salesman, working with Hendrix Produce, and later Oconee River Produce, and was a member of the Metter United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his family, coaching children’s sports, and always enjoyed making everyone laugh with his great sense of humor. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, and worked for a period of time at BJ’s Sport Store.
Survivors are his wife, Terri Underwood; two children, Amanda Gayle Underwood and Jesse Allan Underwood, all of Metter; his parents, Allan and Dorothy Underwood, of Homestead, FL; a brother, Paul Underwood of Homestead, FL; a sister, Robbie Mock, of Homestead, FL; and parents-in-law, Arvil and Jeanette Barton, of Pisgah Forest, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday (today) at 11:00 a.m. at Metter United Methodist Church, with burial in the Primitive Grove Cemetery. Ministers will be Buddy Whatley, Owen Williams, Teddy Underwood, Roland Underwood, Myron Wise, and Dale Taylor.
Pallbearers will be Jamey Underwood, Jody Underwood, Jeff Underwood, Tony Gunter, Ivan Wise, Ricky Wilson, Clyde Little, Bill Smallwood, Rusty Kangeter, and Jerry Holloway. Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan Mock and Michael Holloway.
