Daniel Ray Henry
Daniel Ray Henry, 42, of Metter died Monday, March 21, 2005 after an extended illness. He graduated from Metter High School in 1980 after which he attended Clark College in Atlanta. He was a member of Jerusalem A.M.E. Church in Brooklet.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Bryant Henry of Kalamazoo, MI; his parents, John and Amy Henry of Metter; one brother, Bryant Henry of Metter; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Clarence Wright of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Karen and Jimmie Mountain of Swainsboro; four uncles, Clarence Whitfield of Miami, FL, Arthur and Henrietta Whitfield of Statesboro, Grady and Frances Whitfield of Decatur and Emmit Wilkerson of Metter; three aunts, Canary Whitfield of Metter, Ruthie Burnett of Dublin and Mildred and Nathaniel Grant of Metter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the W.H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Dixon Grove Cemetery.

Jimmy E. Glisson
Jimmy E. Glisson, 60, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at his home. The Tattnall co. native was a lifelong resident and a member of the Collins Baptist Church. He was a special person who cared for his mother until her death and took care of the family home. He was much loved and served as an inspiration to his entire family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Annie Maude G. Glisson.
He is survived by his brother, Robert G. “Jerry” Glisson and wife, Barbara of Statesboro; two sisters, Anne and Jack Jarriel of Aiken, S.C. and Jane Grinstead of Tucker; seven nieces and nephews; ten great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday at Collins Baptist Church with Rev. Warren E. Tarno officiating and with burial in the church cemetery.
Nephews, Brett Jarriel, Mark Jarriel, Richard Glisson, Bill Grinstead, Todd Von Waldner and Phil Luton, served as pallbearers.

Pauline Moore Edenfield
Pauline Moore Edenfield, 86, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Candler County Hospital.
The native of Emanuel County lived most of her life in Candler County. She was a member of Scarboro Missionary Baptist Church, a homemaker, and a great cook. She loved to work in her yard and garden. The love of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, R. J. Edenfield Sr., and a grandson, Robert J. Edenfield III.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Faye Edenfield of Metter and Jerry and Cindy Edenfield of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Hope and Tim Braswell and Michelle and Shannon Edenfield of Metter, Sr. Airman Nathan Edenfield of Omaha, Ne., and Alena and Carlos Aviles of Twin City; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. William Garrett, Rev. Inman Gerrald and Rev. Wilmer Hall officiated.
Pallbearers were Toby Wells, Luther Bell, Tommy Woods, Johnny Wells, Donny Wells and John Bill.

Joan Collins Leggett
Joan Collins Leggett, 71, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at her home. The Candler county native and lifelong resident was retired from Agriculture Department of Farm Service Agency (ASCS) with over 30 years of employment. She was a member of the National Republican Committee, the Metter Primitive Baptist Church and the Trapnell-Dekle Sunday School Class. Joan loved all the farmers of Candler County and was an avid gardener. She was predeceased by her husband, Hoke Leggett.
She is survived by four sons, Van Williams of Talladega, AL, Stevie and Melissa Williams of Metter, Benjie and Barbara Williams of Douglas, and Paul Williams of Metter; her mother Eunice Collins of Metter; brothers, Bobby Ray Collins of Twin City and Joey Collins of Metter; sisters, Joyce Watson of Twin City, June Jarriel of Centerville and Jan Bowers of Metter; a special friend, Ben Gray; grandchildren, Chris Williams, Keith Driggers, Hillary Williams, Tyler Williams, Joey Williams, Lindsey Williams and Sterling Williams; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Donaldson, Allen Thigpen, John Paul Johnson, Carlton Clifton, Bill Patterson and Lamar Deloach. Honorary pallbearers were the Trapnell-Dekle Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held Friday at Metter Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Sheldon Mikell and Mike Whelchel officiating. Burial was in Lake Cemetery.

Rhodney L. Lamar
Rhodney L. Lamar, 47, of Reidsville died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. He was a native of West Palm Beach, FL and he attended the public schools of Palm Beach County. In 1980, he moved to Brooklyn, New York and began his career as a full-time minister at Brooklyn Bethel (Watch Tower Society).
Rhodney lived in Reidsville for the past ten years where he was an elder in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Lamar; two sons, Rhodney Lamar Jr. and Justin M. Lamar; one daughter, Chelsea D. Lamar, all of Reidsville; his mother, Annie and Roy Williams of Swainsboro; two brothers, Eric Williams of Miami, FL and Ravioy Lamar of New York, NY; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Teresa Pugh of Fairburn, and Glenice and Kermit Drinks of Collins; two uncles and several other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on Sunday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Reidsville.

Letha Boyette Evans
Letha Boyette Evans of Charleston entered into eternal rest on the morning of March 26, 2005.
She was the widow of William Edward Evans Sr. Mrs. Evans was born in Cobbtown on June 11, 1913, the daughter of Thomas Lawton Boyette and Alice Rosa Kicklighter Boyette. She was a homemaker and a member of the James Island Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William Edward and Joyce Evans of Charleston; two sisters, Dera B. Bicaise of Charleston and Tycile B. Williamson of Lyons; a brother-in-law, Charles E. Wildes of Claxton; two grandchildren, Martha M. Sudina and Donna Evans Bernados; three great-grandchildren, W. Brandon Evans, Amber D. Sudina and Christan L. Sudina.
Interment was held in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, 3896 Leed Avenue, North Charleston, S.C. 29405.

Ouida Ellis, 66, of Metter died Sunday, March 27, 2005 in the Metter Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born in Tattnall County to the late Gordy and Mary Mathis Robinson. She was the wife of the late Tommy Kennedy (Dean) Ellis. She was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Aline.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom and Earline Ellis of Swainsboro, Perry L. Ellis and Alton Ellis, both of Metter; two daughters, LaVern Ellis of Metter and Stephanie Ellis of Savannah; six brothers and a sister-in-law, Charlie Robinson, and Daniel and Mary Robinson, all of Bowling Green, FL, Henry Robinson, Roosevelt Robinson, Gordy Robinson Jr. and Frank Robinson, all of Lake Placid, FL; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lillie M. Maddox of Mystic and Mary Alice and Willington Service of Lake Placid, FL.

Alice Waye Bartow, 91, of Portal died on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Meadows Regional Nursing Center. Born in Emanuel County, she lived most of her life in Portal. She was a member of Portal Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Bartow.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, March 26, 2005 in Portal City Cemetery with Rev. Don Berry officiating.

Doris Austin
Doris Austin, 70, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Metter. She was born in New York, NY and lived in New Jersey for many years before coming to live with her daughter four months ago. She was a homemaker and the widow of Jack C. Austin. She was preceded in death by a grandson, George Groze.
She is survived by seven children, George Dann III and Katherine of Seattle, WA, Victoria Dearman and Roger of Findlay, IL, Debra Miles of Burlington, NJ, Donna Chism of Delran, NJ, Christopher Dann and Katherine of Niles, IL, Beth Brown and Lewis of Metter and Scott Austin of Findlay, IL; sisters, Antoinette Sozio, Joann Lupinette, Edith Smith, Dorothy Capps, and Phyllis Quick, all of New Jersey; grandchildren, Jamie and Justin Dann, April and Chuck Brown, Robert Dann, Kasey Dann; great-grandchildren, Grace, Emma and McKenzie Brown, Logan and Emma Dann.

Mary Louella Lanier Brantley
Mary Louella Lanier Brantley, 92, of Savannah died on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 in Savannah. Born in Candler County, she was a member of Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church. She was a retired salesperson from Belk.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Lonnie Cecil Brantley of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Darward “Woody” and Agnes Brantley of Savannah; three grandchildren and spouses, Jeffery L. and Kimberly Brantley of Guyton, Brad and Jodi Brantley of Guyton and Bonnie and Chris B. Weber of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, April Brantley of Fayetteville, N.C., Mary Brantley of Guyton and Reese Weber of Springfield.
Pallbearers were Jeff Bradley, Brad Brantley, Homer Lewis Lanier, Brinson Lanier, Craig Lanier and Chris Weber.

Loree Williams
Loree Williams of Newark, NJ died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. She was the daughter of General and Marietta Wilson Williams. Loree was born in Bulloch County and attended the public schools of Candler County. She had lived in New Jersey for over 55 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, General Jr., Ira J., and Joseph P. Willaims.
Survivors include two sisters, Thelma Bell of Newark, NJ and Mae Evelyn Williams of Metter; three nieces, Tracey Bell, Gerdenia B. Doggett and Iris Lewis; two nephews, Stanley Bell and Joseph P. Williams Jr.; several other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held at Whitaker Funeral Home on Friday, April 1. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at St. Luke Independent Methodist Church in Metter. Burial will be in the New Hope Church Cemetery in Register.

Christopher Michael Clayton
Christopher Michael ‘Chris’ (Monkey) Clayton, 22, died Friday March 25, 2005.
He lived all of his life in the Metter, Twin City, and Millen areas, graduating in 2002 from Emanuel County Institute, where he played football. He had been accepted by Ogeechee Technical College to study to become an officer with the Department of Natural Resources.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loving to be outdoors, and was a friend to everyone. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stanley Clayton, Carlton Lockhart Parrish and Wilmeth Johnson Parrish.
He is survived by his parents, Marilyn & Dr. Wayne Tapley of Metter and Bill and Connie Clayton of Millen; a sister, Amanda Clayton and a step-sister, Cara Tapley, both of Metter; step-brothers, Ben and Charles Tapley, both of Metter, Danny Irick, of Columbia, S.C., and Justin Irick, of Millen; his paternal grandmother, Hazel Clayton of Millen; his uncle, Michael Parrish of Twin City; and a cousin, Will Parrish, also of Twin City.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday March 28, 2005 at Open Door Worship Center, with burial to follow in the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Jenkins County near Millen. Pastor Ray Woodcock and Rev. Mike Whelchel officiated.
Pallbearers were Will Parrish; James Rich; Matt Lane; Ben Tapley; Charles Tapley; Roy Griswold; and Jerry Oliver.

Charles Emmons
Charles Emmons, 68, of Metter formerly of Mulberry, died of heart failure Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Candler County Hospital. Born in Atmore, AL on Sept. 13, 1936, he moved to Metter from Mulberry six and a half years ago. He was a retired transportation manager for Badcock Furniture. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the Mulberry Memorial American Legion Post 72. He was a member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 191 in Mulberry and and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Emmons; daughter, Jeri Anne Walker of Cape Coral, Lisa Messer of Mulberry, Karen Cedro, Califon, N.J.; sister, Doris Hadley of Metter; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday at Seigler Funeral Home of Mulberry, FL.
