Nathania Day Beckham
Nathenia Day Beckham, 77, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at her residence in Metter. The Appling County native was a former resident of Glynn County and Jesup and had lived in Metter since 1985. She was a member of Inspirational Baptist Church in Metter.
Mrs. Beckham is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Aubrey and Pat Allen of Hortense, Horris and Sharon Allen of Sardis, Joe and Joann Allen of Springfield and Bobby Ray and Rose Allen of Louisville, Ky.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Juanita and Harold Googe, Scherril Allen, Joyce and Wade Aldrich, and Barbara and Fred Dismuke, all of Metter; a brother and sister-in-law, Herman R. and Lillie Mae Day of Brunswick; a sister, Agnes Googe of Reidsville; a half-sister, Edna M. Day of Screven; a half-brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Paulette Allen of Blackshear; 10 step-children; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 26, at 3 p.m. at Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Mulling officiating.
Active pallbearers were nephews Luis Carreon, Jacob Thompson, Charles Rozier, James Mincey, Dewayne Thompson and James Googe.
Burial was in Lake Chapel Cemetery in Bristol under the direction of Gordon-Harrison Funeral Home of Jesup.
Lois Vivian Whitaker McCray
Lois Vivian Whitaker McCray, 76, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at her home in Metter after an extended illness. Mrs. McCray was born April 25, 1929, to the late Bartley and Jessie Gordon Whitaker in Candler County (Metter), Georgia.
She received her high school diploma from Candler County Training Center. Later she attended Savannah State College. She received Christ at an early age and joined St. Matthews Baptist Church, where her membership remained until the time of her death. She served faithfully as church clerk and head of the Kitchen Ministry until her health failed. As a loving mother, she nurtured her family and others. She was compassionate and always willing to assist others. She cooked meals for those in need and with open arms she welcomed all who entered her home.
Lois was united in holy matrimony to the late Harley L. (Boggie) McCray II on April 24, 1949. To this union six children were born. One (Francia Deborah) preceded them in death.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Freddie Elvin (Joyce) of Hephzibah, Carlton Jerome (Kathleen) of Statesboro, Harley L. III (Jane) of Upper Marlboro, Md.; four daughters, Marilyn Childres Roberts of Jonesboro, Carol Annette McDuffie of Metter, Clara Boyer and Mary Bolton, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Beatrice Curtis of Savannah; a brother-in-law, Daniel McCray of Metter; eight sisters-in-law, Ilene McCray, Roxie Johnson, both of Statesboro, Della Whitaker, Luree Byrd, Christine Johnson and Bernice McCray, all of Metter, Katie Saturday of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Betty Whitaker of Atlanta; caretaker and niece Bernita Smith of Metter and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at W. H. Whitaker Memorial Chapel, Whitaker Funeral Home in Metter. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Church Cemetery in Metter.

Vannie Lee Rigdon
Vannie Lee Rigdon Jr., 77, died Thursday, August 25, 2005 at Metter Nursing Home. The lifelong Metter resident was a veteran of the United States Army (Sergeant First Class). Mr. Rigdon was a self-employed machine operator. He loved his family and his work. His favorite hobby was fishing. Mr. Rigdon attended the Metter Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Flossie Nell Rigdon; a son, Randy L. Rigdon of Metter; daughters, Mary Nell Aldrich, Tonia Tucker, both of Metter and Judy Powell, of Cobbtown; brothers, Bobby Rigdon and Eddie Rigdon of Metter and Willie Harold Rigdon of Hinesville; a sister, Martha Ann Googe of Metter; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Rigdon was predeceased by a son, Lynwood Allen Rigdon and his parents.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. Burial was in Rosemary Cemetery.

Joyce Lynn Tucker
Joyce Lynn Tucker, 51, of Johnson City, TN, died Monday, August 22, 2005, at her residence. A native of Cobbtown, she was the daughter of Lamons Kicklighter Lynn and the late Roy Potter Lynn. Mrs. Tucker was of the Baptist faith and attended Fountain of Life Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Tucker.
In addition to her mother, survivors include two sisters, Linda Lynn of Johnson City, TN, and Deanna Lee of Metter; three borthers, Derrell Lynn and Bobby Lynn, both of Cobbtown and Donald Lynn of Screven.
It was Mrs. Tucker’s desire that her body be donated to James H. Quillen College of Medicine for scientific research.
Memorial services were held on Sunday at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Thomas Deal officiating.

John David Rhoney, Sr.
John David Rhoney, Sr., 41, died Tuesday, September 20, 2005. The Candler County native graduated from Metter High School in 1982 and was a member of Metter First Baptist Church. He was an army specialist serving for 7 years as a wheel mechanic and was a diesel mechanic with Savannah Truck and Trailer Repair. He was also a former truck driver, loved NASCAR, Tony Stewart and loved to bowl.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Robertson Rhoney of Guyton; parents, David and Pat Rhoney of Metter; a son, John David Rhoney, Jr. of Metter; daughters, Michele Rhoney of Stockbridge, Patricia Rhoney, Sarah Rhoney and Charity Rhoney, all of Metter, Juliann Robertson, April Robertson and Ashley Robertson, all of Guyton; maternal grandmother, Christine Hall of Statesboro; sisters and brothers-in-law, Christie and Jeff Miller of Wadley and Melinda and Rob Cannady of Statesboro; a brother, Sidney Rhoney of Metter; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Metter First Baptist Church.

Harvel M. Young
Harvel M. Young, 68, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center in Savnanah. He was a 1956 graduate of Collins High School and had lived in Vidalia since 1966. He retired from Oxford Manufacturing and was a member of the Collins Baptist Church. Harvel loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and Addie Young.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Chester Young of Vidalia; a daughter and son-in-law, Tommy and Donna Young Mincey of Vidalia; a brother, Rodney Felton Young of Stockbridge; and a sister, Gloria Y. Webb of Nashua, NH.
Graveside funeral services were held on Monday at the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Ansley Jordan and Rev. Ronald Young officiated.
Pallbearers were Wayne Horton, Jordan Chester, Brandon Sikes, Holden Chester, William Young and Frank Young Jr.

Laun H. Collins
Laun H. Collins of Eastman died Monday, October 10, 2005. The Cobbtown native attended North Georgia College at Dahlonega before entering the Air Force. He then attended and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. He was an avid Bulldog fan. Mr. Collins was the owner of Eastman Drugs. He later was employed by Dodge County Hospital and Community Mental Health Services. He was a member of Eastman First United Methodist Church, the Dodge County Hospital Board and the Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dot Collins of Macon; two daughters, Launa Huff of Macon and Angela Duckworth of Inman, SC; one sister, June Strange of Cobbtown; five grandchildren, Laurel Huff, Brooke Johnson, Brent Johnson, April Duckworth and Derrick Duckworth.
Graveside funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 in Woodlawn Cemetery in Eastman.
Remembrances can be made to the Methodist Children’s Home in Macon.

Infant Ricardo Rodriques-Campos
Infant Ricardo Rodriques-Campos died Monday, October 17, 2005 at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta after heart surgery.
He is survived by his parents, Jesus Rodriques-Valdes and Felicitas Campos-Silva; maternal grandparents, Arcelio Campos-Silva and Guadalupe Tomas-Peres.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Cemetery with Father Robert Bond and Father Brian LaBurt officiating.

Albert Randal "Randy" Cromer
Albert Randal “Randy” Cromer, 57, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at home. The native of Athens lived most of his life in Metter, and was of the Methodist faith. He served in the US Air Force, worked several years as a newspaper press operator, and also worked at B&T Oil Company. He loved reading, drawing, and writing poetry. He was predeceased by his father, Jimmy Cromer.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Cromer of Metter; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Tom Williams of Metter; niece, Maris Williams of Ashville, NC; and nephew, Weston Williams of Washington, DC.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Sunday, at the Lake Cemetery.

M.F. "Frank" Paris
M.F. “Frank” Paris, 88, of Metter died on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at his residence. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served in World War II as a pilot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Paris, and a brother, Tracy Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Jean C. Paris of Metter; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Debbie Paris of Jesup, Don and Linda Paris of Winter Haven, FL, David and Le Paris of Tulsa, OK and Frank and Diana Paris of Haines City, FL; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, at First Baptist Church in Metter with Rev. Fred Pifer and Rev. Ted Page officiating. Burial was in Lake Cemetery in Metter with military honors.
Pallbearers were John Jones Jr., Tripp Jones, Bowen Jones, Jonathan Paris, Stephen Paris and Gus Watson.

Virginia Kemp Reddick Hulsey
Virginia Kemp Reddick Hulsey, 87, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Metter Nursing Home. She was born in Screven County the daughter of the late Charles Clark Kemp and Susan Bargeron Kemp. She was descendent of prominent pioneer families of Burke and Screven County. She was preceded in death by two husbands, W.L. Reddick and Joseph M. Hulsey Sr. and an infant son, Walter Clarke Reddick.
Mrs. Hulsey lived in Sylvania 14 years and moved to Jesup in 1952 where she lived for 52 years. She moved to Metter in 2004 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Metter. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Jesup, the Naomi Sunday School Class and past president of the XYZ Senior Adults.
A charter member, she was the first president of Ruby Riggins Camellia Garden Club organized in 1967. She was past president of Wayne Garden Club Council, a charter member of Wayne County AARP, charter member of Jesup Shrine Club Auxiliary, and a past member of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Hulsey was an Alumni of Brewton-Parker College and a former employee of the Sylvania Post Office. She opened the Merry-Go-Round Children’s Shop in Jesup in 1965 and operated it for 16 years.
She is survived by three step-sons, Joseph Hulsey Jr. of Eatonton, Robert and Martha Hulsey of Metter, and Dr. Wayne G. and Mary Hulsey of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 13, at Metter United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Harris and Rev. Buddy Whatley officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Sylvania.
Active pallbearers were Dr. Joseph Hulsey III, Drew Hulsey, Dr. Christopher Hulsey, Russell Hulsey, Clinton Schewe, Brent Schewe, Tim Scott and William H. Harris II.
