STATHAM
Mrs. Barbara Burch Statham of Martinez died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 27, 2004 following a brief illness.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Brian Davis officiating. Interment was in West View Cemetery in Atlanta at a later date.
She was the devoted wife of Norman G. Statham for 53 years.
Mrs. Statham, the daughter of the late John B. Burch and Louise L. Burch, was a native of Thomson.
She graduated from Thomson High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia College and State Univer-sity.
After doing graduate work in the university system of California, she taught in the public schools of that state for a number of years.
She ended her teaching career as an instructor of modern dance at Fairliegh-Dickenson College in New Jersey. Having lived in various cities throughout the United States, Mrs. Statham moved to Martinez in 1980 when her husband retired.
She was a member of West Lake Garden Club and the West Lake Lady Lakers and active in those organizations.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by he r sister, Jane Hawes of Augusta and her brother-in-law, Gordon Statham of Atlanta; her nieces, Christy Brown and her husband Tom of Thomson and Cindy Boyer and her husband Kirk of Spring Hill, Tenn., and her nephews, Rick Hawes and his wife Karen of Thomson and Ward Statham of Ellijay.
WILLIAMSON
Mr. Tommy Williamson, 26, of Thomson died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at his residence.
Graveside services were held, Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Charlie Deloach officiating.
Mr. Williamson was a native of Richmond County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Sally and Bobby Jones, Thomson; two step-sister, Kathy Baldazo and Debbie Moon, both of Thomson; a step-brother, Steven Scott Jones, Thomson; his maternal grandparents, Duke and Alburia Williamson, Hep-hizibah; his aunt and uncle, Tracy and Mark Jackson; and his cousins, Caleb, Kyle, Heather, Tyler and Madison.
BRASWELL
Mrs. Nellie Braswell, 71, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, in the Warrenton Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 30, in the Savannah Valley Mem-orial Gardens with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating.
Mrs. Braswell was a native of Richmond County, but had lived in Warrenton for several years. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a niece, Deborah Hester, Boneville; two brothers, Ralph Johnson and Clouse Johnson, both of Augusta; a sister-in-law, Betty Ansley, Boneville; nieces, Samantha Vines, Dearing, Mitzi Kinnamon, Boneville; nephews, Joseph Vines, Dearing, Tommy Holland, Kenny Holland, and Gene Holland, all of Harlem.
SHEFFIELD
Mr. John G. Sheffield, 82, of Thomson, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 in Doctor's Hospital.
Funeral services will be held today in Thomson First Baptist Church with Dr. James C. Elder, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.
AMOS
Mrs. Gertrude Broxton Amos, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bath, S.C. with Rev. Bill Branch officiating. Mrs. Amos will lie in state one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Survivors include her son, Benjamin F. Amos, Jr., Waynesboro, daughters, Deborah Raborn, Vidette, Connie Eubanks, Waynesboro, Tammy Amos, Augusta, and Alice Ware, North Augusta, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louie Broxton, Alpharetta, and James Broxton, Dearing, three sisters, Donna Nagy, Bath, Corine Glinski, Aiken, S.C., and Annie Mae Cooper, Aiken, S.C. Her husband, Benjamin Amos, precedes her in death.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren and relatives.
CARTLEDGE
Mrs. Jean Waller Cartledge, 69, beloved wife of Mr. Jack Cartledge of Washington, died Friday, June 11, 2004, in the University Hospital.
Graveside service were held Sunday, June 13, 2004, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mike Stuphin officiating.
Mrs. Cartledge was a native of McDuffie County, but had lived in Washington for many years. She was a retired office clerk and a member of Thomson First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Cartledge, Washington; her daughter, Jan C. McCarty, Washing-ton; her son, Jeffery L. Cartledge, Thomson; two sisters, Rachel Truitt, Washington, and Grace W. Hyatt, Norfolf, Va.; her brother, Bruce Waller, Harlem and two granddaughters, Jennifer Mc-Carty and Jaime Cartledge.
PHILLIPS
Mr. George Neal Phillips, 55, of Thomson, died June 11, 2004 at his residence.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ronald Owens officiating.
Mr. Phillips was a native of Iowa and moved to Thomson seven years ago after coming from Pennsylvania. He has been employed as a Field Engineer with the Department of Defense for the past 27 years. Mr. Phillips attended LSU, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and in Germany for 14 years. He was a member of the VFW and "Cootie." Mr. Phillips was also a Methodist by faith.
Survivors include wife, Kathy Phillips of Thomson; son, Michael Sean Phillips of Thomson; daughter, Michelle Lee Phillips of Panama City, Fla.; mother, Laura Ruth Phillips of Eatontown, N.J.; sister, Sharon Dowen of Raleigh, N.C. Mr. Phillips was the son of the late Courtney Leland Phillips and Laura Ruth West Phillips; and he was preceded in death by his sister, Paula Ciarducco of Morris, Il.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Robert Palmer
Robert Lewis Palmer, 87, of Lincolnton, died July 29 at his home.
Graveside services were Aug. 1 at Rehoboth Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Dunaway officiating.
Mr. Palmer was the owner of Palmers Body Shop and a member of Rehobath Baptist Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Pierce Palmer, Kenny Palmer, and Gene Palmer, all of Thomson; one son, Roy Palmer of Washington; one daughter, Dell Taylor of Washington; five sisters, Frances McMichael, Alice Hamnock, Myrtis Prevette, Nell Myer and Elizabeth Parris, all of Thomson; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchilden.
Pallbearers were Mike Wilkie, Danny Ingram, Ellis Thornton, Forrest Spence, Willie Frank Blackburn and Tommy Martin.
Helen Wilson
Helen Hair Wilson, Thomson, died July 30 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Preston Y. Wilson Sr.
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 2, at Washington Heights Baptist Church, with the Revs. Reginald Blakewood and Sonny Peevy officiating. Interment was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Wilson was a native of Oconee County, S.C., but had lived in Thomson since 1955 coming from Anderson, S.C. She was a member of Washington Heights Baptist Church. she was retired from McDuffie Regional Medical Center as a practical nurse.
Survivors include one son, Yates Wilson of Thomson; two daughters, Martha A. Gowan, St. Simmons, and Patricia L. Newsome, Thomson; one brother, Thomas L. Hair Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.; one sister, Daphne Taylor, Anderson, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. One son preceeded her in death, Ronald Wilson.
Pallbearers were Jamie Stewart, Chris Stewart, Bill Gowan, Justin Wilson, Doug Edwards and Nobel Drake.

DENNIS DUNAWAY
Dennis Wayne Dunaway, 43, of Thomson, died Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 14, at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating.
Dunaway was born in McDuffie County and graduated from Thomson High School in 1978.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his parents, Fred and Mary Tankersley Dunaway, and his brother, Fred Dunaway Jr., all of Thomson.
Pallbearers were Lawrence Ashley, Tom Bentley, Adam Dye, Edward Gay and Chris Wallace. Interment followed in the Westview Cemetery.
Larry Haire Sr.
The Rev. Larry D. Haire Sr., 56, died Oct. 13, at his home, Warrenton.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 16, at Thomson Church of God. Services were officiated by the Revs. Sammy Glass of Decatur, Tenn.; Ron Lawson of Thomson and Quint Shepherd of Sandersville. Burial was at Sallie Hill Cemetery in Warrenton.
He was born in Marion, Ind., on May 25, 1948. He spent most of his life in Warrenton and Thomson.
The Rev. Haire was an evangelist and assistant pastor at Thomson Church of God.
He was a board member at Mt. Moriah Campground in Matthews.
He was also owner of Camak Diesel Service and Sassafras Hauling. He was a husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary Anne Haire; three children, Larry D. Haire Jr. of Thomson, Rebecca Haire of Dearing and Jamie Haire of Warrenton; two grandchildren, Tre and Alex Sleister of Dearing; brothers and sisters, Ina Urian, Joyce Newsome, Brenda thomas and Geraldine Montgomery, all of Thomson, Hubert Haire Jr. of Appling, Joe Haire of Mobile, Ala., Karen Walden and Vickie Arrington, both of Matthews, and Reba Baggett of Augusta.
Pallbearers were nephews and included J.R. Gilmer, Bill Gilmer, Tony Arrington, Barrow Walden, Travis Benson and Kenny Ellis.
Honorary pallbearers were also nephews.
