George Lymus, Jr.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 16 for George Lymus, Jr., 62, of Eatonton who died March 13, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness. The services were held at the chapel of Putnam Memorial Funeral Home and interment was in the Bell Chapel Church Cemetery. The Rev. Ricky Lockhart conducted the final rites.
George Lymus was a native of Putnam County, Ga., the son of Mary L. Jackson Monday and George Lymus, Sr.
Mr. Lymus is survived by his brother Willie R. Hawkins of Eatonton, sister-in-law Beulah Hawkins, several nieces and nephews.
His nephews served as pallbearers and his nieces served as flower ladies.
Putnam Memorial Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. J.D. McDaniel
Funeral services were held for family only for Mrs. J.D. McDaniel, 74, of 125 South Leisure Lane, Milledgeville, Ga. who died March 30, 2003, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Dorothy Frances McDaniel was a native of Forsyth, Monroe Co., Ga., the daughter of Jim Ard and Mary Mitchell Ard. She was married to J.D. McDaniel who survives her. She was by profession a beautician.
Mrs. McDaniel is also survived by her sons Roy J. McDaniel of Canadensis, PA and Thomas A. McDaniel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, her brother Jack Ard of Eatonton, Ga., her sisters Rachel Gossett of Juliette, Ga., Mary Ann Gossett, Stone Mountain, Ga., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel had charge of arrangements.

Arthur Milton Harris
A funeral service was conducted Sunday at Hunts Chapel Church for Arthur Milton Harris, 65, Master Sergeant, U.S. Army, Ret. who died Thursday, May 22, 2003 in a Macon hospital. The services were with full military honors with the Rev. John Norfleet, pastor, conducting the final rites. Interment was in Hunts Chapel Church Cemetery, Eatonton.
He was a native of Putnam County and resided in Jones County following his military retirement. During his 27-year career in the Army, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He was married to the former Lougene Crawford of Eatonton, who survives him. They were the parents of three children; the youngest, Stephanie, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Cassandra Starks of South Lyon, Mich.; a son, Arthur Harris, Jr. of Macon; three grandchildren, Brandon Harris, Macon Foster and Benjamin Starks of South Lyon, Mich.; a sister, Shirlene Fears of Atlanta; two brothers, Gary Harris of Atlanta and Jack Harris of Detroit, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Gordon, and honorary pallbearers were Legionnaires from Post 583, American Legion, Eatonton. His flower bearers were ladies of the Post 583 Auxiliary.
Hurt and Redd Funeral Home of Eatonton was in charge.

Julia Kemp
A funeral service is slated for at 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, May 29, at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton for Julia Kemp, 127 Bearcreek Road in Eatonton, who died Wednesday, May 21, 2003. The Rev. Bill Kitchen will conduct the final rites, and burial will be private.
She was a native of Fulton County and had lived in Eatonton for the past seven years. She was the daughter of the late William Reese White and Artie McDaniel. She had retired from the IRS as a tax technician and was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Julia C. Mills of Eatonton and India Y. Hendley of Orange Park, Fla.; a grandson, John Thomas Huffman V of Titusville, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Christine Huffman and Johnny Huffman.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel was in charge.

Clarence Whitaker
A funeral service was conducted April 17 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Cabria Heights, N.Y. for Clarence Whitaker, 60, of New York City, N.Y., who died Saturday, April 12, 2003.
The Rev. Harding Dunlop conducted the final rites, and interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens, N.Y.
He was a native of Eatonton and was the son of the late John and Rosa Whitaker. He was a graduate of Butler-Baker High School and later lived in New York City. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base. In 1965 he married Jacquelyn DeBerry, and they had two children. Following his term of service he was employed with Braniff and American Airlines, later joining British Airways. There he became one of two African- Americans to work on the SST’s Concordes. In his 25th year of service with British Airways he was recognized, and he received the 25 Years of Devoted Service Award. He retired in 2001. He was active in his neighborhood, his church and civic duties.
He is survived by his wife; his children, Cassandra and Clarence Jr.; a sister, Alma Freeman; brothers, John and Joseph Whitaker; an aunt, Annie Lou Griffin; many cousins; and his nephew, Charles G. Hurt of Eatonton.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Davis and Ethel Mae Hurt; and a brother, Charles Lewis.
J. Foster Phillips Funeral Home in Jamaica, N.Y. was in charge.

Frances Leona Wagner Wilson
A funeral service was conducted May 16 at Lone Oak Baptist Church for Frances Leona Wagner Wilson, 86, of 223 Sparta Highway, Eatonton, who died Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness. The Rev. A.M. Samples conducted the final rites, and interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery.
She was a native of Eatonton and was the daughter of the late Robert and Hulda Wagner and the widow of Woodrow Wilson.
She was a retired assembly line worker at Enterprise Aluminum Plant and was a member of Eatonton Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Hattie Thompson of Eatonton, Joy Wild of Monticello, Grace Ponson of Virginia Beach, Va. and Virginia Frith of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and three sons, Carlton Layson and William Wilson, both of Eatonton, and Steve Wilson of Millen.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel of Eatonton was in charge.

Patrick Lynn Moore
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens for Patrick Lynn Moore, 47, of Milledgeville, Ga. who died July 27, 2003. at Oconee Regional Medical Center. The Rev. Wesley Jones conducted the final rites.
Mr. Moore was a native of Santa Monica , California and had lived in Eatonton for the past five years. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Macon.
He is survived by several siblings, nieces and nephews.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel had charge of arrangements.

Mary Trussell Griffith
A memorial service was conducted Sept. 17 for Mary Trussell Griffith, 79, of Brunswick, who died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 at the Hospice of the Golden Isles. The memorial service was at St. Richards Episcopal Mission on Jekyll Island, Ga. and was preceded by a coffee reception for friends and family in the fellowship hall.
The Athens native had made her home on Jekyll Island since 1968 and was widely recognized for her contribution to the art community of the Golden Isles. A retired art teacher and a pioneer of the Art Department of Glynn Academy High School and Risley High School, she was most recently known for her extensive depictions of familiar subjects such as the coastal area of Georgia, the outer Abacos, Bahamas, the mountains of western North Carolina, and flowers of all kinds.
Earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, she studied under internationally known artist and instructor Lamar Dodd. She pursued graduate work at Memphis State University, The Memphis Art Academy and the University of Georgia. Her work was chosen for numerous local and regional exhibits. These included FIBRATIONS, a selected group of art work with the University of Georgia, selected watercolors chosen to be on covers of High Tide Adventure Guide, a tourism magazine for the Golden Isles, and her painting of the St. Simons Island Lighthouse appeared on the back of the “Georgia Journal.” Chosen by “Artists in Georgia,” 1989 edition, she was also a watercolor instructor for South Georgia Colleges National Elderhostel program. Her original paintings, notepaper, and prints have been displayed throughotu the United States, Bahamas and Europe. She was a member of St. Richards Episcopal Mission of Jekyll Island, the Glynn Art Association, the Jekyll Island Art Association, the Golden Isles Arts and Humanities, Coastal Art Association, Georgia Watercolor Society, National Society of the Colonial Dames, Jekyll Island Musical Theatre Festival, The Junior League of America and Chi Omega Sorority.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, E.F. Griffith Jr.; her daughters, Leila Griffith of Longmont, Colo.; LaGrange Little of Jacksonville, Fla., and Laura Hambrecht of Orange Park, Fla., and a son, Eugene Frederick Griffith III of St. Simons Island, Ga., grandchildren, Wimberly and Rachel Griffith of St. Simons Island, and Bryan and Dallas Hambrecht of Orange Park, Fla., sisters, LaGrange Dupree and Kitty Wilson of Athens; numerous nieces and nephews; and step- grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make memorial contributions to Hospice of the Golden Isles or the church of your choice.

Thomas Jackson Watson
A memorial service was conducted Sept. 18 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel for Thomas Jackson Watson, 73, of 149 N. Steel Bridge Rd. who died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003 at Putnam General Hospital. Burial was at the Greenview Cemetery in Greensboro. The Rev. David Jordan officiated the service. Pallbearers were: Randy Smith, Jimmy Smith, Brian Smith, James Short, Bill Short and Steve Lee.
Watson was a native of Polk County, but had lived in Eatonton for the past 20 years. He was the son of the late Thomas Grant Watson and Icia Ledford Watson. He had previously owned and operated a service station the majority of his life. He had served in the Army and was a member of the Ben Hill Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye Watson, Eatonton; her son, Thomas G. Watson, Eatonton; her sisters, Nell Short, Cedartown and Nancy Lee, Lawrenceville; her brothers, Buford Watson, Cedartown and Jerry Watson, Griffin; and her grandchildren, Nycole Jarrett and Joshua Watson.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice L. Taylor
A memorial service was held Sept. 15 for Alice L. Taylor, 89, who died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 in a Milledgeville hospital. The burial was at Big Sandy Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilkinson County.
A native of Wilkinson County, Taylor had made her home in Putnam County for a number of years.
She was the daughter of the late James Thomas Taylor and the late Susie Wynn Taylor. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Taylor.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wilkinson County. She attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Putnam County for a number of years.
Survivors include two neices, Frankie Cooper of Eatonton and Patsy Coleman of Centerville; and her nephew, Michael Knight of Titusville, Fla.
Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Milledgeville was in charge of arrangements.
