Michael L. Cowher
Michael L. Cowher, 36, of Eatonton, died Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 20 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Monroe, Ga with the Rev. Frankie Green officiating.
Born in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Arthur Boyd Cowher, Jr. of Pennsylvania and Betty Jane Jones of Eatonton. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and was currently working at Terry’s Auto Clinic in Milledgeville as a mechanic. Mike was also an LPN, a Millwright worker, loved fishing and was a devoted father to his two children.
Survivors include: children, Chad Cowher and Kinsley Cowher of Monroe and their mother, Cathy Cowher of Monroe; aunt, Virginia Cowher of Gray, aunt and uncle, Amy and Charlie Cowher of Jersey Shore, Pa., cousins, Darlene Johnson of Macon, Linda Wheeler of Gray, Larry Cowher, Jr. of Dry Branch.
The family greeted friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mike Cowher Memorial Fund for Chad and Kinsley Cowher, c/o Main Street Bank, P.O. Box 1376, Monroe, GA 30655.

Jack H. Davis, Sr.
Jack H. Davis, Sr., 75, of 335 Glades Rd., Eatonton, Ga. died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Eatonton Health Care.
Funeral services were held at Lone Oak Baptist Church on Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. A.M. Samples officiating. Interment was in Lone Oak Cemetery.
The Putnam County resident was born Dec. 25, 1928. He was a dairy farmer, and was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church.
Survivors include: daughter, Pennye Stephens, Eatonton; sons, Jack Davis, Jr., Heck Davis, Russell Davis all of Eatonton, Phillip Davis, North Carolina, brother, Lyn Davis, Statesboro, sisters, Edna Lane, Irene Sharp both of Eatonton, Ann Kirkley, Covington, Lacey Pierce, Nelsonville, OH, and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Barry Davis, Scott Davis, Chad Davis, Jeff Davis, Keven Davis, Keith Davis, Zeb Davis and Caleb Davis.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.
Kittie Lancaster Garner
Kittie Lancaster Garner, 100, of 282 New Phoenix Rd., Eatonton, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services were held at vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Thursday, May 20 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ben Strength officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery.
The Putnam County native was born Feb. 16, 1904 to John Lancaster and Lila Newman. She was a middle school teacher and a member of Philadelphia Methodist Church.
Survivors include: brothers Raiford Lancaster of Eatonton, Johnny Lancaster of Mineral Bluff, Ga., sisters Julie Hartness of Kennesaw, Peggy McMahan of Royston, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included Bobby Blizzard, Jim Garner, Allen Garner, Phil Garner, Jay Faircloth, Armor Maddox.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Bessie Dunn Howard
Funeral services were held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Eatonton on Saturday, May 22 for Bessie Dunn Howard who died on Thursday, May 20, 2004.
Bessie Dunn Howard was born in Putnam County, Ga. on April 19, 1919 to the parentage of the late Asbury Dunn and the late Mary Lizzie Dunn both of Putnam County. She was a life long resident of Eatonton.
On June 1, 1948 she was joined in union to Otis Howard of Putnam County. This union was blessed with two daughter, Mary Ann Howard Nelson and Dorothy Ruth Howard Farley (deceased). She was a devoted and caring wife and mother and dearly loved her family. She touched the lives of many through her expression of kindness.
Thursday, May 20, 2004 Mrs. Howard succumbed this life in the confines of the Eatonton Healthcare Facility in Putnam. Mrs. Howard was the sister to Oscar Dunn, John Dunn, Clarence Dunn, Leola Swain Dunn, Annie B. Dunn, Henrietta Dunn Stembridge, Ethel Dunn Maddox and Susie Mae Dunn Pennamon, all who preceded her in death. Surviving sibling is Billy Dunn of Eatonton.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Howard Nelson of Eatonton, Ga.; nine grandchildren: Barry E. Nelson, Tammy M. Nelson, Dorothy Ann Nelson, Kimberly N. Smith and husband Darrell, Christel N. Walker and husband Jeff, Carla Y. Nelson, Candice L. Richard and husband Darnell, all of Eatonton, Ga. Wesley J. Nelson of Macon, Ga. and Japheth R. Nelson of Atlanta; four great grandchildren: Whitney Leigh Nelson of Greensville, MS, Fa’lon Bianca Nelson and Darrell T. Smith, Jr. of Eatonton and Nasiriyah W. Nelson of Macon; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Flower ladies were family and friends.

Vivian Whitman Humphries
Vivian Whitman Humphries, 69, of 1102 Oconee Springs Rd, Eatonton, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Putnam General Hospital.
Graveside services were held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery on Wednesday, May 19 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Hinson officiating.
The Jasper County native was born Feb. 20, 1935 to Ted Whitman and Dovie Whitman, and was married to Lewis Humphries. She was a retired secretary with the state government and was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: spouse, Lewis Humphries, Eatonton, son Louie Humphries, Covington, sister Lilliam McClure, DeKalb County, brother Douglas Whitman, DeKalb County and two grandchildren.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Jane S. Newman
Jane S. Newman, 81, of Decatur, formerly of Eatonton died Wednesday, May 12, 2004. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert S. Newman.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen P. and Karen Newman of Avondale Estates; and two grandchildren, James and Cathy Newman.
Private services were held.

Elizabeth Ann Rainey
Elizabeth Ann Rainey, 53, of 725 Pea Ridge Rd., Eatonton died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church in Eatonton on Tuesday, May 18 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Steve Winter and the Rev. Mike Willard officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery.
The Putnam County native was born on March 18, 1951 to John Buck Holder and Lizzie Gearhardt, and was married to Mike Rainey. She was a bookkeeper for the family dairy and a member of the First United Methodist church and the First United Methodist Women.
Survivors include: husband, Mike Rainey, Eatonton, daughters Jennifer Camp, Atlanta, Jan Cannon, Arlington, TX, Jill Boyer, Eatonton; son Jeb Rainey, Macon, sisters, Janice Knowles, Joyce Harper both of Eatonton, brother, Fred Holder, Eatonton, and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers include: Roy Embry, Ernest Turk, Joe Hudson, Rudy Hicks, Leon Manley and Ted Jenkins.
Honorary pallbearers include Dickey Douglass Sunday School class.
The family asks that donations be made in memory of Ann Rainey for a future nursery at First United Methodist Church. The family feels the most fertile soil for Christian growth is to plant the seed of Christ in the hearts of children. Often times the light of the Lord, through these children, has the power to change our adults.

Clifford Joseph “C.J.” Royal
Clifford Joseph “C.J.” Royal, 72 of 111 Browns Chapel Road, Eatonton, Ga. died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, May 21 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Grady Fuller and Sheriff Charles Roper officiating. Interment was in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
The Putnam County native was the son of Joseph Carlton Royal and Audrey Brown and was married to Annette Hallman Royal.
He served in the Army, and was employed with Enterprise Aluminum Co as a forming press operator and was a member of Berean Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Tim Davis of Eatonton and Ricky Royal of Monticello, daughters, Debbie Stephens of Buford, Wanda Browna nd Donna Herring both of Eatonton, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
