Ora Holmes
Ora Holmes, 88, of Waynes-boro died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta. Her funeral was 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at New Springfield Baptist Church, with the Revs. Willie B. Tomlin and Joseph Williams officiating. Burial was in the New Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Holmes, a resident of Burke County, was a retired educator with the Burke County School System and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of New Springfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Sheryl Holmes of New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Margaret Mathis of Augusta; four sisters, Lelia McKennon and Nina Ficklin, both of Waynesboro, Mary Ficklin of New York and Anna Baker of Jacksonville, Fla.; and six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Willie Bell, Will E. Latimore, Gene Chandler, John Allen and James Herrington. Honorary pallbearers included Pride of Masonic Lodge, Burke County Teachers Association and deacons of New Springfield Baptist Church.
Jamiya K. Buxton
Jamiya Kenteria Buxton, infant, died Saturday, March 15, 2003.
His funeral was 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Gospel Explosion Outreach Ministry, with Elder Willie Jones Jr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include his mother, JuWannecia Buxton and father, Reginald T. Buxton Sr.; a brother, Reginald T. Buxton Jr.; a sister, Ja Quetta T. Buxton; his grandparents, Loretta Jones, Willie Jones Jr., Calvin Buxton Sr. and Julia Buxton, all of Sardis; and great-grandparents, Margaret Warren of Sardis, Mary Ellison of Statesboro and Mamie Buxton of Girard; and great-great grandmother, Cora Herrington of Sardis.
Quincy P. Welch
Quincy Phillip Welch of Augusta, died Monday, March 17, 2003 at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. His funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Third Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Edward Jones officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Welch was a native of Burke County. Survivors include two brothers and a sister-in-law, McKelsey and Shirley Welch of Savannah and Dr. Jerry L. Welch of Augusta; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Yvonne W. Bussey and Jerrilene and Rufus Palmer, all of Augusta. Pallbearers were Adolphus K. Welch, Christopher M. Welch Sr. and deacons Seth Collins, Johnny Davis, Sidney Davis and Lee Arthur Davis.
Doy C. Fulcher Sr.
Doy Clayton Fulcher Sr., 62, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at his residence.
His funeral was 11 a.m., Saturday, March 22, at DeLoa-ch-Ken-nedy Funeral Home in Heph-zibah, with the Rev. Jimmy Dickey officiating. Burial was in Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery. Mr. Fulcher, a lifelong resident of Richmond County, was a Methodist and was owner and operator of DCS Acoustical. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold H. Fulcher. Survivors include his widow, Janice M. Fulcher of Hephzibah; two sons, Doy Clayton Fulcher Jr. of Hephzibah and Travis Shane Fulcher of Waynesboro; two sisters, Frances Stocker of Hephzibah and Vera Jones of Augusta; two brothers, Howard Fulcher of Hephzibah and Garry Fulcher Sr. of Augusta; his mother, Virginia H. Fulcher of Hephzibah; and five grandchildren, Doy Clayton Fulcher III, Ashton Fulcher, Cody Kight, Kimberly Fulcher and Ansley Fulcher. Pallbearers were his nephews, David Fulcher, Garry Fulcher Jr., Ted Fulcher, Wayne Fulcher, Brad Stocker and Chuck Ellis. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Smith and Chad McFalls. Mr. George Sapp III, of Boston, Mass., died Thursday, June 5, 2003.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Phin-azee and Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Ashley Moore Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Ervin and Melody Jenkins, both of Waynesboro.
Mrs. Elaine G. Smith
Mrs. Elaine G. Smith,73, of Warner Robins, died Sunday, June 8, 2003.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) June 11, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins, with Dr. William R. Key officiating. Burial will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Smith, a native of Millen, was the daughter of the late A.H. and Pearl Frick Gnann. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Newberry Lutheran College Alumni Association and was the former First Lady of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association.
Survivors include her husband, Rabun O. Smith of Warner Robins; a daughter, Kim S. (David) Harris of Kathleen; a brother, Heyward Gnann of Gainesville; a sister, Shirley G. Whitley of Shreveport, La.; and two grandchildren, Charly Harris and Lauren Harris, both of Kathleen. Mrs. Lillie Lawrence, 88, of Waynesboro entered into rest Sunday, June 1, 2003.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7, at McKinnie Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. L.E. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
To cherish her memories are two sons, Joseph Lawrence of Augusta and James Lawrence of Waynesboro; a daughter, Francenia Griffin of Waynesboro; a sister, Mary Lou Tanksley of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Mr. Bryan D. Redd
Mr. Bryan Davis Redd, 15, of 216 Fairway Drive, Waynes-boro, entered into rest Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Egleston.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, Aug. 6), at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Wayne Dixon and Dr. Bill King officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. Redd was a native and lifelong resident of Waynes-boro. He was a sophomore at Edmund Burke Academy where he was a member of the school golf team, the Fellowship of Christian Students and the Science Club. He was also a member of Botsford Baptist Church, Waynesboro.
He is survived by his parents, Gene and Alice Sue Redd of Waynesboro; a brother, Todd Redd and his wife Melissa of Waynesboro; and a niece, Baylor Redd of Waynesboro; and his grandmother, Lillie Redd of Wagner, S.C.
Pallbearers will be Danny Meeks, Bubba Quick, Bill Lively, Jimmy Riggs, Frank Getzinger, Tom Guy, Brad McNeely, Kevin Boothe, Art Lively and Mike Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the sophomore class of Edmund Burke Academy.

Mr. Nathan Cohn
Mr. Nathan Oliver Cohn of Poole Melton Road, Blythe, entered into rest Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Andrews officating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Full military honors were accorded.
Mr. Cohn was a native of Albany, N.Y., but had lived in Burke County for many years prior to and after his military service. He had retired from the U.S. Air Force with 25 years of service for his country, serving in the Vietnam War. Mr. Cohn was a member of the American Legion and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. He was a Baptist and memberof the Crossroads Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia B. Cohn of Blythe; a son, Bryan Cohn of Augusta; a daughter, Cynthia C. Bacino of Hephzibah; two brothers, Allen Cohn of Athens and Michael Cohn of Blythe; a sister, Janet Gallop of New York; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. James Jackson
Mr. James W. Jackson of Waynesboro entered into rest Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta. Memorial services will be held Friday, Aug. 8, at the First Presbyterian Church, 810 Myrick St., Waynesboro, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert L. Smith III officiating. Mr. Jackson, a native of Cory, Ind., was a retired machinist for International Paper Co. and a life member of the VFW. Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Mary Parr Jackson of Waynesboro; two daughters, Loretta Lynn Stembridge of Waynesboro and Bridgette Renee Manca of West Caldwell, N.J.; a son, Michael Joseph Manca Jr. of Idaho; three sisters, Norma J. Rector, Doris Mondey and Della Chritchfield, all of Indiana; a brother, Jesse A. Jackson, of Indiana; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Doyle H. Ashe
Mr. Doyle Howard Ashe, 71, entered into rest Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at Brentwood Terrace Health Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends Wed., Aug. 6, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Ashe lived all of his adult life in Burke County. He was a Mason and a member of the Waynesboro Lodge #274, Waynesboro Shrine Club and the Alee Temple. Mr. Ashe was also a member of the Savannah River Boating Club where he served as the secretary and treasurer for many years. He was retired from International Paper where he worked for 38 years.
Survivors include two sons, Glen Ashe of Waynesboro and Curt Ashe of Girard; a brother, Donald Ashe of Edgewater, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Ashe of Augusta; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers will be David Hargrove, Rick Huff, Garrett Fulcher, Bubba Mathis, Charles Beasley and Sandy Holiday. Honorary pallbearers will be T. Cook, Honey Cook, Jackie Minyard, Terry Syms, Jimmy Smith and Marion Atkinson.
