Hazel Faye Holder Bryant, age 76, of 1225 Chandler Ridge Dr., Lawrenceville, Ga. died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at her residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with the Reverends Jerry Cline, Ed Chambless, Steve Carter and Pastor Cooley officiating. Interment will be in Buckhead Memorial Cemetery. The Putnam County native was born October 20, 1929 to Josie Royal Holder and Patrick Holder. She was married to Clinton Bryant. She was a member of Yellow River Baptist Tabernacle and Grace Baptist Church, and she was a homemaker. Survivors include: daughters, Sherry Denmon of Fort Pierce, Fla., Janet Thomas of Lawrenceville, son, Joel Bryant of Port St. Lucy, Fla., three brothers, Talmadge Holder, Kenneth Holder and Jim Holder all of Eatonton. Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Royce Thomas, Felix Denmon, Drew Denmon, Tom Williams, Andy Holder and J.D. Holder. Zeke Dunn Williams, Sr.
Zeke Dunn Williams, Sr., age 75, of 403 N. Madison Avenue, Eatonton died Tuesday October 25, 2005. Funeral services were at the First United Methodist Church (old sanctuary) on Friday, October 28 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Peggy Little officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery. The Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County, Ga. native was born September 30, 1930 to John Duncan Williams, Sr. and Pauline Dunn. He was married to Carol Williams. He was a retired Lt. Col in the U.S. Air Force. He served nearly 27 years, from 1951-1977. He was a fighter pilot and served twice in Vietnam, earned 3 Distinguish Flying Crosses, was an instructor at a Red Flag School. He was a member of All Angels Episcopal and First United Methodist Church of Eatonton, Historical Society Board, Coffee Club, Board of Trustees of First United Methodist Church, Library Board Chairman. Memorial may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 302 N. Madison Ave., Eatonton, Ga. 31024. The funeral was a full military funeral with a 21 gun salute. The military served as pallbearers at the graveside. Laverne Gutherie
Laverne Gutherie, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005. Funeral services were at 11 am Wednesday at the Ridouts Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham, AL, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Gutherie was a native of Birmingham, AL, but lived in Milledgeville for the past seven years. She was the widow of the late Lester Roy Gutherie and was retired from the JCPenney Company in Birmingham. Mrs. Gutherie was a volunteer at Oconee Regional Medical Center, a member of the First Church of The Nazarene in Milledgeville, a former member of the Forestdale Church of The Nazarene in Birmingham, where she was recognized as the Missionary of the year. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara King and Joy Hollis, both of Eatonton; a son, Gene Gutherie of Bradenton, FL; two sisters, Mellie Hendricks of Owasso, MI and Bessie Bailey of Stuart, FL; a brother, Bob Rigel of Stuart, FL; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Madelene Hieber Mann
Madelene Hieber Mann, 52, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005. Funeral services were at 11 am Wednesday at Richland First Baptist Church, with interment at Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae. Mrs. Mann was born in Richland, GA and was preceded in death by her father, Karl Theodore Hieber and her step father, Gerald Thompson of Eatonton. Mrs. Mann was a homemaker and had lived in the community for two years. Her husband is the pastor of Richland Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Frank Mann IV of Richland; her mother, Alice Mardel Hall Whipple; a son, Nathan Mann and his wife, Kasey of Alapaha; two brothers, Karl Heiber and his wife, Ann of Eatonton and Mike Hieber and his wife, Terri of Marietta; a sister, Kathryn Combs and her husband, Sidney of Macomb, IL; a father-in-law, Dr. Frank R. Tiara Vonsha Franks, age 21, of 134 Andrews Court, Eatonton, Ga. died unexpected Tuesday, October 11, 2005. Funeral services were held at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Thursday, October 13 at 3 p.m. with Dr. Harry Michael officiating. Interment was held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. The Baldwin County native was born Jan. 9, 1984 to Betty T. Waldroup and Howard Franks. She served in the U.S. Navy from 2002-2005 and was a member of Manley Memorial Baptist Church. Joseph Lee Kersey, Jr., age 19, of 371 Gray Rd., Eatonton, Ga. died unexpected Tuesday, October 11, 2005. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 15 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Harry Michael officiating. Interment was held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. The Baldwin County native was born Jan. 9, 1986 to Molly Marie Brigman Kersey and Joseph Lee Kersey, Sr. of Eatonton. He was a vinyl siding installer and a member of Manley Memorial Baptist Church. Allie M. McLeroy, 87, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the former Victoria’s Garden. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation was Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Mrs. McLeroy was born on September, 18, 1918 in Eclectic, Alabama. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Chapel as well as Ladies of the Lake and NARFE. Mrs. McLeroy was an electronic technician with Warner Robins Air Force Base. After she retired she became a Tupperware dealer. Her husband Alexander McLeroy, parents, Allen and Cora Mason, brother McGhee Mason, and two grandchildren preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Allen N. Funeral services were held at Grace Baptist Church on Friday, January 13 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Ed Chambless, the Rev. Frank Bruce, and the Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Interment was held in the Eatonton Memorial Park Cemetery. The Washington County native was born June 11, 1927 to James Fletcher Bruce, Sr. and Georgia Marie Yearwood. Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Thelma Pounds Buckner, age 78, were held Thursday, January 12, who passed away at her residence Friday, January 6, 2006 following her illness. She also was a housemaid. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Eatonton on Monday, January 16 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Willard officiating. Interment was held at Baldwin Memorial Gardens. The Baldwin County native was born September 29, 1934 to Elisha J. Lundy and Clemmie Johnson. He was married to Essie M. Prosser. He was a retired production manager for Horton Homes, he served in the Navy in Korea, he was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, and was a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include: wife, Essie P. Jeffrey Edward Saltamacchio, age 27, of Snellville, Georgia passed away January 9, 2006 at his home in Tallahassee, Florida. The Putnam County native was born May 25, 1909 to Benjamin Gouch and Elizabeth Morton. Life long resident of Putnam County. She worked for a short period in Stanton Island, NY,She married Scotish born James Gilchrist on Oct. 8, 1932. The Baldwin County native was born February 27, 1953 to Peter Jacob Rice, Sr. and Mildred Elizabeth Ballard. He was married to Robin Vickery. He was employed in real estate sales, real estate appraiser. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eatonton. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Gatewood Dugout Club. Herschel G. Screws
Services for Mr. Herschel G. Screws, age 74 of Milledgeville, Ga. who died Sunday, January 1, 2006, were held Tuesday, January 3, at 3 p.m. at Gethsemane United Methodist Church with Dr. Richard W. Zeller, the Rev. Don Ott and the Rev. Tommy Veal officiating. Burial followed in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Mr. Screws was a native of Johnson County. He was the son of the late Gaynor Screws and the late Sally Myrtle Cochran Screws. He was a US Army Veteran. Mr. Screws lived in Dublin from 1948 until moving to Milledgeville in 1973. He is the retired owner and operator of Screws Service Station, East Dublin, and was self employed in the timber industry. He was preceded in death by his brother, Grady Screws. Survivors include: wife, Theresa Kitchens Screws of Milledgeville, daughter Hersha Jean (Bob) Herndon of Milledgeville, son, Curtis Lee (Tamala) Screws of Putnam County, grandchildren, Tyler Screws, Lee Screws, Trey Screws, Sean Curtis Herndon, brothers and sisters, Cleo Screws of Belmont, NC, Bennie Screws of Dublin, Viola Bustos of Alpharetta, Dorothy Whited of Norcross, Rosa Brown of Dublin, Glenda Gilleland of Gainesville, several nieces and nephews. Interment was in Baldwin Memorial Gardens. A native of Jones County and daughter of the late Javann and Stella Wood Smallwood, Mrs. Crowe made her home in Putnam County for a number of years. She had lived in Milledgeville for the past 33 years. She was the widow of the late Lanois David Crowe, Sr. and was preceded in death by a son Ronnie Crowe. She was a retired employee of Central State Hospital.
