Eva Sue Hensley, age 59, of 158 Inez Dr., Eatonton, Ga. died Saturday, February 11, 2006 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Friday, February 17 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. The Driden, VA native was born on January 21, 1947 to Frank Galley and Louise Henry. She was a journalist for the Royal Oak Tribane and was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church. Survivors include: husband, Edward Hensley of Eatonton and her mother, Louise Henry of Vicksburg, Miss. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of the final arrangements.
Mary Kenagy McClallen
Eureka - Mary D. Kenagy McClallen, 75, of 203 S. Myers St., died at 2:30 am on Thursday February 9, 2006 at her residence. She was born on October 17, 1930 in Tontan, MN, to William and Grace Edward Vierhout. Earlier in her life she married Roy Rassi. Then she married Lester Kenagy on January 29, 1971. He died on September 28, 2003. She later married Bernon McClallen on June 4, 2005. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Donna (William) Poole of Eatonton, GA, Cheryl (James) Kenagy of Eureka; one son, William Rassi of Washington, IL; twelve step children, Loren (Gail) Kenagy of Princeton, MN, James (Cheryl) Kenagy of Eureka, Rev. Darryl (Barbara) Kenagy of Lomira, WI, Barbara (Brad) Byrd of Roanoke, Ronald (Donna) Kenagy of Pelion, S.C., Connie (Clifford)Ledington of Victorville, CA, Steven (Martha) McClallen of Eureka, Janet (Albert) Otto of Naperville, IL; Dr. Gerald (Debra) McClallen of Carbondale, IL, Randell McClallen of East Peoria, Michael (Laura) McClallen of Eureka and David (Molly) McClallen of Eureka; three sisters, Grace Reich of Long Beach, CA, Jean (Tom) Slack of Morton, and Estella Schieber of Metamora; 41 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Robert , and James Vierhout; one son-in-law, John Leas; one grandson, Andy Leas; one great-grandson, Joshua Kneip; and an infant granddaughter. Mary had owned and operated shelter care homes in Metamora and Morton before she retired in 1977. She was a member of the Woodford County Home Extension, the Red Hat Society, and the Lakeview club. She volunteered for and was past chair of the Woodford County American Cancer Society, a member of the RSVP volunteers with Maple Lawn Homes, and she volunteered for Hospice in the area. She was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday February 14, 2006. The Rev. Ron Martz will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Monday at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka. Oscar Martin Powers, age 67, of 105 Crestview Dr., Eatonton, GA died Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Emory University Hospital. Funeral services were held at Eatonton Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, February 15 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Ford F. G’Segner officiating. Interment was held at Eatonton Memorial Park immediately following. The Atlanta, GA native was born on August 1, 1938 to Frank H. Powers and Pauline H. Powers. He was married to Veta B. Powers. His occupation was a plumber and he was a member of the Eatonton Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: Veta B. Powers, wife; children, Sabrina Hellsten (Rick), Jennifer Benefield (Clyde), Craig Bridges, Lisa Hinson (Neal); brother, Charles Powers (Pam); sister, Betty Ruff; several nieces and nephews. Clifford Lewis Angles, age 81, of 5601 Due West Rd., N.W., Powder Springs, Ga. died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Eatonton Health Care Center. Services were private. The Putnam County native was born July 26, 1924 to John Riley Angles and Nancy Price Angles, he was married to Doris S. Buffington. He worked as a line worker at Lockheed. Survivors include: wife, Doris Angles of Powder Springs; brothers, Willis Angles, Eatonton; Roy Angles of Athens and sister, Beatrice Ayers of Eatonton. Brother, Marion Angles preceded him in death. Mary Thompson Bell
Mary Thompson Bell, age 88, of Orlando, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2006 after a brief illness. She was born on September 19, 1917, in Muncie, Indiana to Irvin A. and Bertha B. Thompson. Mrs. Bell graduated with a degree in education from Milwaukee State Teacher’s College at the University of Wisconsin. She taught at Pine Hills Elementary School and retired in 1985 from Evans High School where she taught Bible Literature and English. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Robert P. Bell. She is survived by her sister, Ruth t. Aude of Clearwater, Florida and daughters Nancy Folds of Hiram, Ga., Linda Rothwell of Miami, Fla., Cathy Melton and Susan Bell of Orlanda, Fla. She is also survived by sons-in-law, Harold Folds, Emory Rothwell, and David Melton and grandchildren, Marc (LeAnne) and Alyssa Ebbert, Robert and Scott Rothwell, Bridget Rothwell Fischer (William), Brad and Greg Melton and eight great-grandchildren. Lula Parham Burdette, age 96, of 704 Oak St., Eatonton, GA died Friday, February 3, 2006 at Putnam General. Funeral services were held at Mt. Ararat Methodist Church on Sunday, February 5 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Hobie Roark officiating. Intement was held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. The Putnam County native was born September 1, 1909 to the late Robert Parham and the late Leila Ballington. She was a line worker for Enterprise Aluminum Co. and a member of Mt. Ararat Methodist Church. William “W.J.” Griffith
William “W.J.” Griffith, 86, of 302 North Lafayette Street died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Eatonton Healthcare and Rehabilitation. The funeral was held June 9 at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Peggy Little and Dr. Robin Lindsey officiated. Burial was at Eatonton Memorial Park. William Jackson Griffith was born in Greene County December 3, 1919 to Georgia Griffith and Cora Sandifer. He was married to Frances (Troutman) Griffith. He served in the United States Army during World War II and worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Griffith was a member of First United Methodist Church and was fondly known for shaking everyone’s hand and sharing his Werther’s Original candies. He was also a member of the Rising Star Lodge No. 4, Eastern Star, Robinson Dance Sunday School Class and the Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include wife Mrs. Frances Griffith of Eatonton; three sons: Steven (Faye) Griffith of Delta, Al., Charles (Arline) Griffith of Villa Rica, Ga., and Kenneth (Jill) Griffith of Cumming; three brothers: Rayburn Griffith of Tuscon, Az., George “Bud” Griffith of Birmingham, Al., and Vernon “Snap” Griffith of San Antonio Tx; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Vallie “Cute” Howard died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 after a lengthy illness. She was 71-years- old. She was born in Eatonton on November 15, 1934 to the late Bishop and Mary Alice Howard. Survivors include six children, Ralph Howard of Tifton, Nancy Howard of Eatonton, JoAnne Howard, of Eatonton, Andy (Mary) Howard of Macon, Ricky Howard of Eatonton, Betty (Howard) Howard of Eatonton; three sisters, Mamie Culp, Tempie Thompkins and Ellen Holt, all of Eatonton; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Watson Dennis
Watson Dennis, of the War Veterans Home in Milledgeville died Saturday, June 10, 2006. Funeral services were held at Putnam Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14 at 1 p.m. with Elder Jesse Porter officiating. Interment followed at East Eatonton Cemetery. Mr. Dennis was the son of the late Watson and Lukie Nelson Dennis of Eatonton, he was born July 17, 1924. Watson attended Texas AME Church school. In 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army in Fort Benning, Georgia. Watson received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European African Medal, and the Middle Eastern Service Medal with Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on November 6, 1945 from the 838th Engineer Battalion at Fort McPherson. He enjoyed listening to the radio and baseball. He was preceded in death by one brother Augustus Dennis. Survivors include: daughter, Juanita Jones of Decatur, two sisters, Reba Pye of Eatonton and Juanita Johnson (Jwade) of Miami, FL; one brother, C.W. Dennis of Miami, FL; two uncles, Glenwood Nelson of Eatonton and Marshall Nelson of Newark, NJ; and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers and flower bearers were family and friends. Marvin “Fat” Hargrove
Marvin “Fat” Hargrove, died Monday, June 5, 2006 at Regency Hospital of Central Georgia in Macon. Funeral services were held at Hunts Chapel AME Church in Eatonton with Pastor Jeff Germany officiating. Interment followed at Eatonton City Cemetery. Mr. Hargrove was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Robert Hargrove, was born in Eatonton, on May 13, 1937. Mr. Hargrove graduated from Butler-Baker School. He was joined in Holy matrimony to Silvia Mullins Hargrove who preceded him in death. To this union, six children were born. He retired from Eatonton Co-op and was later employed at Tom Thompson Dairy. Prior to his illness, he provided many years of volunteer service to the Putnam Christian Outreach Center. He loved helping other people. his hobbies included hunting and fishing. After recently accepting Christ, he united with Hunts Chapel AME Church. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers respectively: Sarah Daniel, Julia Grant, Lucy Mae Crawford, William Hargrove, Winfred Hargrove, and Robert Gorley. Survivors include: six children: Frances Rowell, Essie Hargrove, Marcina (Marvin) Burston, Marvin (Catina) Hargrove, Linda Hargrove, and Angel (Eric) McMullen all of Eatonton; seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; sister; Frances (James) Waller of Eatonton; four brothers: James (Candy) Hargrove of Cleveland, Ohio, Walker (Marion) Hargrove of Sparta, Charles (Estella) Hargrove and Robert (Rosa) Hargrove of Eatonton; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Hargrove, Elizabeth Gorley, Daisy Reid, Ruby Mullins of Eatonton and Lelia Bell West of Macon; brothers-in-law: Tommy Lee (Sally Mae) Mullins of Macon and Joe Henry (Ola) Mullins of Ohio; two god sons; Randy Kemp and Bruce Hurt of Eatonton; special niece, Julia Mae Grant of Macon; a host of other relatives and friends. Keyonah Shunta Andrews died Tuesday, May 23. She was was 19. Ms. Andrews was born on April 28, 1987 in Madison, Georgia. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry and Sharon Andrews Brown of Eatonton. She was a graduate of Putnam County High School, Class of 2006. Keyonah was a member of God of Peace Ministries. She participated in many church activities such as singing, dancing and helping with the Children’s Ministry. She also participated in basketball, track, band and cheerleading. Preceding her in death is a grandmother, Sanella Brown and grandfather, Eugene Andrews. Survivors include: her parents, Jerry and Sharon Brown, sister Jalesa I. Brown; brothers, Hikeem T. Andrews of Eatonton and Dasdrae Q. Brown of Covington; grandmother Lucinda Andrews; grandfather Willie H. Arthur “Skeeter” Blizzard, age 56, of 2947 N. Columbia St., #3, Milledgeville, Ga. died Monday, May 29, 2006 at Portsbridge Hospice. Funeral services were held at Penetcostal Holiness on Wednesday, May 31 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Zeller, and the Rev. Paul Garner officiating. Interment followed at Eatonton Memorial Park. The Baldwin County native was born August 7, 1949 to the late Samuel Blizzard and the late Gladys Babb. He was married to Bonnie G. Key. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was employed has a Mechanic’s helper. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Betty W. Hall
MOULTRIE - Sarah Elizabeth “Betty” Hall, 80, died on April 21, 2006, at her home in Moultrie. Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25 at First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie with the Rev. Hugh Ward officiating. The family received visitors following the service at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Born Sept. 24, 1925, in Commerce, Ga., Mrs. Hall grew up in Eatonton, where her father John Aubrey Williford, was a primary founder of the Rock Eagle 4-H Center, and her mother, Norma Haley Williford, helped found and was long-time curator of the Uncle Remus Museum in Eaton- ton. Her late sister Norma Watterson succeeded Mrs. Williford as curator of the museum. After marriage and moving to Moultrie, she went into the teaching profession, where she taught second, third and sixth grades at Okapilco School in Colquitt County and 10th grade at Moultrie High School, retiring as a high school English teacher. Mrs. Hall had a long record of active service with clubs and organizations in Moultrie, including the Junior Woman’s Club; the Moultrie Federated Guild, where she served as president; and the John Benning chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served twice as regent. She served as district president of the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs, and was named as “State Clubwoman of the Year” by the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs. A lover of nature and animals, she helped start Moultrie’s Humane Society She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie. Mrs. Hall’s interests included bridge, reading and traveling with her husband. She was a vivacious, direct, spirited, and fearless Southern lady her family said. A born extrovert and conversationalist, her family said she touched the Jives of many people from all walks of life over the course of her teaching career and throughout her lifetime. An enthusiastic supporter of the University of Georgia, she kept to an old UGA tradition, always ringing a big backyard farmbell whenever the Bulldogs won a game. She enjoyed playing the piano, and adored “Buddy” the Halls’ yellow Labrador retriever. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Howard William Hall of Moultrie; one daughter, Haley Hyatt and son-in-law Barry Hyatt of Valdosta; one grandson, Dr. Mark Howard Blanchard of Moultrie; brother-in-law Jack Hall and his wife Helen of Moultrie and Highlands, NC.; sister- in-law Mary Ellen Christian of Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Heard, Henry Klar, Keith Wilson, Bob Gavigan, John Hall. Art Ellis, Bill McIntosh and Pete Dillard. Cobb Funeral Chapel was in charge of final arrangements.
Leuella Garland Thomason
Leuella Garland Thomason, age 76, of Hillsboro, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at the Eatonton Health Care & Rehab. Leuella Thomason was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Her parents were the late John Garland and Olivia Dumas Garland. She was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church, former Sunday school teacher, WMU member, and choir member. She served on the Board of the Older American Council in Jasper County. Mrs. Thomason retired from the Warner Robins Air Force Base. Her husband, Johnnie King Thomason, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, John Garland Thomason of Hillsboro and granddaughter, Olivia Thomason of Monticello. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at the Hillsboro Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Burial in church cemetery. Rev. N.L. Bellury and Larry Jones officiated. Funeral services were held at Vining Ivy Chapel in Eatonton on Wednesday, May 31 at 11 a.m. with James Johnson, Buddy Waldron, and Leon McNabb officiating. Interment followed at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. The Putnam County native was born July 4, 1931 to the late John E. Welch, Sr. and the late Eva Newman. He was married to the late Betty Lee Osborne. He was employed has a foreman. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and a member of the VFW Post 6686. Blount, Sr. and Maude Renfroe Blount and was married to the late Drue P. Willis. Survivors include: son, Carroll Willis of the Phillipines; brother, Horace E. Annie Laura Jackson
Annie Laura Jackson, 73, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Mrs. Jackson was born to the late Willie Hamp and Cleo Williams on October 15, 1932. She was the oldest of 13 children. Mrs. Jackson grew up and was educated in the Ward Chapel Community. She joined the Bells Chapel Church at a young age and attended faithfully until her health began to decline. In January of 1962, she married the late Grady Jones. They were married for 35 years and the couple had four children. Survivors include: two daughters, Laura Little (Jesse) and Gladys Jackson (Stanley); two sons, Grady Jackson Jr. and Bobby Lee Jackson (Mary) of Milledgeville; three sisters, Dorothy Ellison (Marvin); Bessie Williams of Eatonton, Mrs. Juanita West of Conley, Ga.; two brothers, Bennie Frank Williams (Ida), of Conley, Elder Ulysses Williams (Elizabeth) of Milledgeville; one aunt, Nelcie Williams of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Diana Singletary (Taft), Brandon Little, Jessica Little, Keoshia Jackson, Jamel Jackson,; one great-grandson, Ethan Taft Singletary, a hose of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary E. Hoard Baugh , 82, died at Eatonton Health & Rehabilitation Center, Tuesday, May 16, 2006. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 18 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin, Georgia, with Hassel Weems officiating. Mrs. Baugh, wife of the late James Leon Baugh, was born in St. Clair County, Alabama to the late John Thomas Hoard and Eula Lee Drummond Hoard. She grew up in rural Alabama, moving to Georgia after the death of her father when she was 13 years old. Her adult life was spent working in the textile industry, first at Dundee Mills in Griffin, and then Imperial Cotton Mills in Eatonton. She also worked at Enterprise Aluminum Company until her retirement just before the closing of the plant. She was preceded in death by her daughter Patricia Ann Baugh and brother J.D. Hoard. Survivors include her daughter B.J. Weems and son-in-law George Weems. Grandchildren: Kelly Weems Pennington of Eatonton, Julie Weems of Milledgeville, Hassel and Bene’ Weems of Locust Grove, and Lee and Jessica Weems of Statham. Great-Grandchildren: Tyler Pennington of Eatonton, Anna Grace Weems of Locust Grove, and Katie Beth Weems of Statham. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Rev. Marvin and Mrs. Louise Hoard of Aberdeen, Maryland, brother-in-law Walter (Faye) Baugh, brother-in-law-Butch (Shirley) Baugh, sister-in-law Rilla (William) Hall, sister-in-law Ela Mae Baugh, all of Griffin, along with several nieces and nephews.

Jeremy Curtis “Joose” Joiner of 120 Flat Rock Road, Eatonton, died from injuries sustained in an auto accident Sunday, May 21, 2006 in Jasper County. He was 22-years-old. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Ivy Vining Hill Chapel at 4 p.m. Burial was at Crestlawn Memorial Garden. Mr. Joiner was born January 26, 1984 and worked in auto body repair. He is the son of David and Debbie Joiner. He is survived by his parents, two sisters Amanda Giberson of Cochran, Ga., Heather Snider of Florida, one brother, Mitch Joiner of Florida, and great-grandmother Mamie Selph of Florida, four nieces and two nephews. Contributions toward funeral costs would be greatly appreciated.
