Georgie Bailey Lawrence
Georgie Bailey Lawrence, died Monday, May 8, 2006. Funeral services were held at St. John A.M.E. Church in Eatonton on Monday, May 15 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Anna Higginbothen, the Rev. Thomas Higginbothen, the Rev.O. Farley, the Rev. T. Thompkin and the Rev. Jesses Porter officiating. Interment followed at Bethal Cemetery in Eatonton. The Eatonton, Putnam County native was born April 6, 1904 to the late Ruben and Sallie Bailey. Georgie was the seventh of nine siblings, all preceded her in death. She joined Bethel A.M.E. Church at the early age of 8. She was a missionary, stewardess, trustee and secretary of her church for more than 40 years before moving to Westland, Michigan, she received her education in the Putnam County, Bethel A.M.E. Church School. She was married to the late James T. Lawrence, Sr. on December 10, 1922 and to this union seven children were born: Jewel, Hildreth, Prudence whom preceded her in death, Cozette, Mildred, James “J.T.” and Deloris. She also raised four grandchildren, Eudonis, who preceded her in death, Frank, Jr., Gary, Georgette and a niece, Gloria Farley. Survivors include: children, Cozette, Mildred, James “J.T.”, daughter-in-law, Georgia Lee, Deloris, son-in-law, Bob; three adopted children, Frank Jr., Gathern “Gary”, Georgette, son-in- law, Isaac; 16 grandchildren: Mable (Ronald), Jimmy, Calvin, Sr., Hildreth, Jr., Leslie, Sabrina (Wayne), Wanza, Laguatis (Gloria), Madeline (Anthony), Theresa (Charles), Gerald, Duane, Sharina, Kendra, Montoya ‘Dontez’, and Kyanna; 40 great grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were: Gary Evans, Calvin Ruff, Dontez Evans, Leland Heath, Travis Guyton, Laguatis Lawrence, Michael Lawrence, Anthony Davenport, Antonio Heath, Calvin Ruff, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were: Leslie Lawrence, Frank Evans, Jr., Reginald Smith, Wayne Guyton, Curtis Evans, Ronnie Smith. Flower bearers were her granddaughters and great granddaughters. Penn Funeral Home in Inkster, MI was in charge of final arrangements.
James Eugene McPhail
James Eugene McPhail, 69, of Eatonton, died Monday at his home. He was born May 23, 1936, in Detroit, Mich.,, the son of the late James Burton McPhail and Cecilia Slezak McPhail. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served 4.5 years while stationed in Japan and Korea. He retired from the City of Livonia, Mich.. While in Livonia, he was an active member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #2246 and the American Legion. He was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro. Survivors include his widow, Betty Jean Schuknecht McPhail of Eatonton; two sons, Patrick and James Michael McPhail, both of Eatonton; sister Phyllis McNamee of Austin, Texas; brother, Roy S. McPhail of Livonia, Mich.; and grandson Patrick James McPhail. A funeral mass was Wednesday. at Christ Our King & Savior Catholic Church, with another mass planned Saturday at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Livonia, Mich. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Memorial Gardens in Livonia. McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro.
Edith Motley
Edith Motley, died Monday, May 1, 2006. She was the last of seven children. Funeral services were held Friday, May 5 at 2 p.m. at County Line Primitive Baptist Church in Milledgeville with Elder Harry Williams officiating. Interment followed at County Line Cemetery. She was born June 15, 1925, to the parentage of the late Ida Manson Eubanks and the late William Manson. She was formerly married to Robert Motley. She was educated in the Baldlwin and Putnam County public school system. Survivors include: daughters, Edith Francis Motley-Lovette-Sinclair of Eatonton, Hope Robinson of Lawrenceville, NJ; foster daughters, Joann Rowson and Roseann Hayes, both of Trenton, NJ; grandchildren, Duane Motley (Latisha) of Gaeta, Italy, Tamika and Doina Lovette of Eatonton and Garry Lovette, Jr. and his fiancé Silvia Perey of Chesapeake, VA, Faith Mitchell (Keenan) and Darryl Robinson of Lawrenceville, NJ; five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances. Family and friends served as flower bearers and pallbearers. Putnam Memorial Funeral Home in Eatonton was in charge of final arrangements.
Roy Howard Pittman
Mr. Roy Howard Pittman, 76, of Eatonton died Friday, May 12, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Ann Thompson Pittman and parents Richard R. and Elzie Pittman. Mr. Pittman attended church at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Luke Odum of Eatonton and Kathy and Brian Burman of Lilburn; grandchildren: Bill Odum of Eatonton, Kymberleigh Kendall of Phoenix Az., Cliff Odum of Eatonton, Rocky Hall of Lilburn, and April Dean of Covington; brother J.L. Pittman of Covington; sister Polly Davis of Covington; five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 16, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home. Dr. Joe King and Rev. Vernon Smith officiated. Entombment followed at Lawnwood Memorial Park. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association. Rosa Lee Scott
Rosa Lee Scott, died Thursday, May 11, 2006. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 13 at 1 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in Eatonton with the Rev. Willie C. Jones and the Rev. Ozzie Hansen officiating. Interment followed at East Eatonton Cemetery. She was born October 18, 1922 to the parentage of the late Alex and Sara Johnson. Mrs. Scott was reared and educated in Rockville, Georgia. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Jenkins Grove Baptist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Henry Scott. One son Alex preceded her in death. She retired from the Eatonton Manufacturing Company after 26 years of employment. She loved planting and working in the yard. Survivors include: daughter, Eva Thompkins (Walt), of Eatonton, sons, Willie (Ann) and Tommy, of Atlanta, Joseph (Loretta), of Macon, and James (Rose) of Eatonton; sister, Ollie Mae Dennis; daughter-in-law, Eva Davis; sisters-in-law, Stella Johnson, Lizza Pearl Scott and Julia Mae Scott, all of Eatonton; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and nineteen great- great grandchildren, devoted friends the Bly family and other relatives and friends. The death of Mrs. Mary Frances Thompson Stinson of 346 West Hall Street, Milledgeville, GA occurred on Sunday, May 14, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, from Union Baptist Church with interment to follow in West View Cemetery. Rebecca “Becky” Ann Alexander Turner, age 51, of 1088 Crooked Creek Rd, Eatonton died Friday, May 12, 2006 at Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were held at Manley Memorial Baptist Church on Monday, May 15 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Harry Michael officiating. The College Park, Ga. native was born November 7, 1954 to Grady Murphy Alexander and Elsie Mae Minter. She was married to Marshall Oscar Turner. She was a homemaker and a receptionist for Designing Line Hair Salon in Milledgeville, and was a member of Manley Memorial Baptist Church. Aileen Carter Griffin, age 84, of 153A Reid Dr., Eatonton, GA died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Eatonton Healthcare Center. Graveside services were held at Pine Grove Cemetery on Monday, April 24 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Terry Richardson officiating. The Putnam County native was born February 25, 1922 to Hester Carter and Martha Rebecca Brannan, she was married to the late Wallace Thomas Griffin. She was employed as a line worker at the sewing plant in Eatonton and was a member of Marshall Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include: daughter: Barbara Hadden of Greensboro; son, Ronald “Pee Wee” Griffin of Eatonton; step-daughter Louise Poole of Eatonton; grandchildren, Rhonda Towe of Greensboro, Gina Spicer of Tenn.; Casey Collis of Eatonton, Ronnie “Brother” Griffin of Social Circle. Carolyn Reed
Carolyne Crump Reed, age 72, of Lake Sinclair, died Friday, April 14, 2006. Funeral services were held Monday, April 17 at 11 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church. Interment was held at Riverside Cemetery in Macon at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Reed was the daughter of the late Charlie Crump and Clarice McCook Crump Hamrick. Mrs. Reed attended Virgil Powers and Old Lanier High School. She lived in Forsyth before moving to Milledgeville 28 years ago. She retired from Sara Lee Corp. as an Inspector. Mrs. Reed was a lifetime member of the Vessels of Clay Sunday School Class. She was a retired Pink Lady at Putnam General Hospital. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Carol Reed. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Paul Reed, of Lake Sinclair; sisters, Effie Jo (Daniel) Blizzard of Lake Sinclair; Judy (Ron) Franks of Shelby, NC; Pat (Cecil) Starley of Gray; mother- in-law, Leta Reed and sister-in-law, Wilma Maxwell, both of Marshall, NC; several nieces and nephews. Annie L. Freeman, age 74, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006. She was born on November 10, 1934 in Eatonton, Georgia to the late Andrea Mae Gorley and Gradie Griffin. She joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Eatonton at an early age and was a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Decatur at the time of her death. She attended school in Eatonton and graduated from College at Fort Valley, Georgia. Survivors include: daughters, De’Andrea Freeman and Regenia Beeks; sister, Dorothy Finley; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a host of nieces, many cousins, and one devoted friend, Mildred Andrews and many more loving friends.

Aiken and the late Mary Em Florence. She was married to James M. Landis and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Madison. Survivors include: husband, James M. He was preceded in death by his sisters, the late Lucy Leslie and the late Katie Jo McDonald. Funeral services for Kimberly Anne Todd were held at First United Methodist Church in Eatonton on Monday, April 3, 2006. Rev. Robin Lindsey and Rev. Peggy Little officiated. Burial was held at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Todd, of 239 New Phoenix Road, died Friday, March 31, 2006. She was 44-years-old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Jay Todd, who died March 30, 2005. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Todd was born July 1, 1961 to Leonard and Carole Cook. She was a teacher at Putnam County Elementary School and a member of First United Methodist Church of Eatonton. Visitation was held Sunday, April 2, 2006. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the college fund for sons Stephen Michael Todd and Matthew Ryan Dalton. Graveside services for Audrey Lewis were held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. on April 1, 2006. Mrs. Lewis, of 10345 Canyon Trail, Jonesboro, Ga., died Thursday, March 30, 2006. She was 70-years-old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linden Jerry Lewis, and her parents. A native of Seneca, South Carolina, Mrs. Lewis was born January 6, 1936 to Florence G. Sanders and Frank E. Gaines. She was a line worker for General Motors and a member of Eatonton Church of God. She is survived by daughters Beverly Rice of Jonesboro and Karen Wilkes of Fayetteville; son Roy Steven Stancil of Clayton County, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
