Mildred Marie Beahm Jeblick
Mildred Marie Beahm Jeblick, age 81, of Eatonton, GA, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at her son’s residence. Born in Fairfax County, Virginia on March 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Willie Cleveland Beahm and Gracie Lee Byrnes Beahm. She graduated from Fairfax High School. She worked for the United States Department of Defense at the Pentagon and later was a Kindergarten Teacher. Prior to moving to Putnam County, Mrs. Jeblick was a member of Buckhall United Methodist Church, Daughters of America and Buckhall Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary in Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Philip Jeblick and a sister, Martha Sparks. She is survived by a daughter, Andrea Penny and husband Larry Edward of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; a son, Larry Jeblick and wife Vera of Eatonton, GA; a sister Margie Aubrey of Nokesville, VA; four grandchildren, Lori Messer, Ryan Jeblick, Wayne Penny and Brooke Wynn; four great grandchildren, Brandon Messer, Kaitlin Penny, Douglas Penny and J. P. Wynn; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Price’s Funeral Home Chapel in Manassas, VA with Rev. John Hull officiating. Interment will follow in the Quantico National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Jeblick, Wayne Penny, Rob Wynn, David Messer, Carl Hoffman and Bob Brueggeman. Betty Mae Gay Johnson, age 73, of 993A Monticello Rd., Eatonton, Ga. died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Piedmont Hospital. Funeral services were held at Lone Oak Baptist Church on Sunday, March 26 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. A.M. Samples. Interment followed at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. The Bartow County, Florida native was born January 3, 1933 to the late Walter Gay and Annie Kitchens. She was married to the late Arthur Johnson. She was self-employed at Johnson Grocery and A & B Handypack. Survivors include: sons, Kim Johnson (Sharon) of Eatonton, Kurt Johnson of Eatonton; daughter Kelly Gilbreath (Mike) of Eatonton; brother, J.W. Donald McDougald
William Donald “Butch” McDougald, age 66, of 105 Poplar Street in Eatonton, Ga. died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Portsbridge Hospice in Macon. Funeral services were held at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel on Saturday, March 25, at 1 p.m. with Dr. Richard Zeller officiating. Interment followed at Eatonton Memorial Park. The Social Circle, Ga. native was born June 20, 1939 to Ludell Doster and Grady Chandler McDougald. He was employed as a truck driver for J.B Hunt and was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include: sister, Peggy Ann Lambert of Snellville, nieces, Cathryn Horner of Decatur, Elaine Widener, Debbie Collins, and Barbara McNatt, all of Vidalia; nephew, Chandler McDougald of Hawkinsville. Church members served as pallbearers. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of final arrangements.
Dorothy “Dot” Fuller Franks Mathis
Dorothy “Dot” Fuller Franks Mathis, 77, of Milledgeville, died Nov. 7. She was the daughter of the late Ivey Lee Fuller and Mackie Lou Watson Fuller, and a lifelong resident of Baldwin County. She was retired as an LPN at Central State Hospital and was a member of Hardwick Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were husbands Floyd Franks and John Mathis, a son, Randy Franks, and a granddaughter, Lisa Franks Blevins. Survivors include a son, Phil Franks of Dallas, Texas; sister, Lillian Ward of Milledgeville; granddaughter, Amanda Franks of Athens; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Blevins of Kennesaw; and a nephew, Don Mathis of Milledgeville. Services `were Friday, Nov. 10 at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Milledgeville, with burial following in West View Cemetery.
Carlton B. Stallings
Carlton B. Stallings, 86, of McDonough and formerly of Eatonton, died Tuesday, Nov. 7. He was a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring as a master sergeant. He saw action in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ingeborg Edith Nitzki Stallings. Survivors include sons Ronald Stallings and his wife Elizabeth of Stone Mountain, Jerry Stallings and his wife Kimberly of McDonough; grandchildren Andrew, Morgan, Alexandria, Brandon and Ryan; and one sister, Edith Williams of Jackson Funeral services were Friday at the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, with the Rev. Jerome Stallings officiating. Burial followed at the Marietta National Cemetery.
Annette Robinson
Annette Robinson, 68, of Eatonton, died Monday at Hostland Hospice in Macon. She was born in Rockdale County, the daughter of the late Claude Rutledge and Ezelee Glaze. She was a printing press operator for National Geographic Magazine, and a member of Marshal Memorial Church. Survivors include her husband, Jesse Robinson; three daughters, Debra Lipzinger of Stone Mountain, Rita Aderhold of Dacula, and Teresa Chesser of Bogart; four brothers, Weyman, Tommy, Gary and Stewart Rutledge, all of Conyers; two sisters, Ruby Ray of Decatur and Jean McAfee of Conyers; six grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Thursday at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel, with services following at 4:30 p.m. The Rev. Terry Richardson will officiate.
Larry Garland Stancill
Larry Garland Stancill, 56 of Eatonton, died recently at his residence. He was born in Baldwin County in 1950, the son of Harvey Lee Stancill and Doris Pace. He was retired from the road department in Baldwin county, and was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Linda Lou Wall Stancill, and son, Shane Stancill, both of Eatonton. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel, with the Rev. Steven Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ronnie Louis Clemons
Ronnie Louis Clemons died last week. He was born Nov. 13, 1955 in Putnam County, son of the late Willie Broadnax and Annie Bell Clements. He graduated from Putnam County High School and served several years in the U.S. Army and the Navy. He later married and resided in Atlanta, then returned to Eatonton to care for his ill mother, whom he was dedicated to until her death. He was a truck driver and later a self-employed carpenter. He was humorous and enjoyed socializing with his family and friends. An aunt, Annie Nora Thomas, preceded him in death. He leaves precious memories with his wife, Cheryl Clemons: a daughter, Renita Clemons; two sisters, Patricia Hurt and Faye E. Jones, both of Eatonton; Two faithful uncles, Clarence and Willie Clements; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were Saturday in the Ulysses Rice Memorial Chapel of Putnam Memorial Funeral Home, with Apostle Gus Kilgore officiating.
Evelyn Louise Smith
Evelyn Louise Smith, 93, died Monday, Oct. 9. She was a native of Louisville, Ky., and moved to Marietta in 1989. She was retired from L&N Railroad with 35 years of service. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert C. and Lena Burchart Schwab, and grandchildren Tim, Janine and Russ. Survivors include a daughter, Irma Jean Chirico and son-in-law Mike, of Eatonton; and a sister, Irma King of Louisville, Ky. The funeral mass is at 9 a.m. today (Thursday) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 110 N. Jefferson St. in Milledgeville, with Father Michael McWhorter officiating. Robert Newton Akin
Robert Newton Akin, 87, of Milledgeville, died Sept. 28. He was a native of Perry, and had lived in Washington D.C., and Maryland before moving to Lake Sinclair in 1977. He was the son of the late John Luke and Hattie Miller Akin, and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Mann Potato Chip Co., and was a member of the Sinclair Baptist Church, VFW, and the American Legion. He was an avid rose gardener. Preceding him in death was his wife, Janie Walker Akin. Survivors include two sisters, Lois Garner of Milledgeville and Marry Harris of Weatherford, Texas. Carol S. Walter Dowd, 60, of Eatonton, died Sept. 29 at her residence. She was born in Danville, Va., on may 15, 1946, the daughter of the late Carlton and Margaret Slaton. She was a courier for Puralator Courier Services, and a member of Concord UMC. Survivors include her husband, Olin Dowd, of Eatonton; a son mark Walker of Union Point, stepson Dennis Dowd of Port Pierce, Fla, two sisters, Janis Smith and Sylvia Gil, and a brother, Charles Slaton, all of Danville, Va. Minnie Pearl Griffith
Minnie Pearl Griffith, 52, of the Bairdstown community, died Sept. 29 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 7, 1953 in Jasper County, she was the daughter of the late John Edgar Griffith and Lorene Kenny Griffith. She attended Union Point and Winder high schools and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Chadwick Clark; siblings, Frances and Bobby Griffith; and a nephew, Shane Mote. Survivors include two sisters, Jerry G. Mote and husband Raymond of Cleveland, and Linda G. Batchelor and husband Johnny of Eatonton,; two brothers, Tim Holt Griffith of Bethlehem, and John F. Jannie Mae Farley Humphries
Jannie Mae Farley Humphries, 80, of Eatonton, died Sept. 24 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Putnam County. She attended Crossover School and became a member of Crossroad Church, now Clements Chapel A.M.E.. She was a domestic worker most of her adult life. Survivors include three daughters, Lillian Williams, (Willie) Betty Davis and Sally Humphries; four sons, David, Larry, James and Freddie Humphries; and grandson Roshaw Humphries; she raised as her own 12 grandchildren, 13 great-granddchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is a devoted niece, Mildred Hill and special friends Ruby Lee Ellison, Frances Andrews and Tommie Lee Grigg. Services were Sept. 26 at Clements Chapel A.M.E. Harvey “Jack” Lee Peppers
Harvey “Jack” Lee Peppers, 87, of Eatonton, died Oct. 1. He was born in Winder to the late Warren and Samantha Davis Peppers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Roberta Davis Peppers, three brothers and a sister. He and his wife owned and operated Jack & Ina’s Grocery in Decatur and Thomaston for 46 years. He enjoyed watching television, especially sports, and loved raising and taking care of his dogs, Sam and Gal. Survivors include a daughter, Katherine P. Collier of McDonough; a son, Warren Jeffery Peppers and wife Wanda Gail of Thomaston; grandsons, Michael Allen Collier, of Thomaston, Lee Collier of Jonesboro, Nickey Mayo of Thomaston, Christopher Lee and Jeffrey Blake Peppers, both of Thomaston; great-grandsons, Matthew Allen Collier of Conyers, Cody and Corey Lee Collier, both of Jonesboro, and Jesse Michael Collier of Thomaston; a brother, Hugh M. Leola Aikens Denham
Leola Aikens Denham was born on July 12, 1944 to the late John and Olies Aikens. She departed this earthly life on Sept. 19. She accepted Christ at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church at an early age. Preceeding her in death were four sisters, Pauline Burke, Sarah Aikens, Mary Aikens and Ann Mathis; four brothers, Mashall , Paul , Jim , and Tommy Lee Aikens. and a daughter-in-law, Martha Denham. Those left to mourn her homegoing, yet celebrate her life include two daughters, Gloria Denham and Jean (Keith) Nelson, a goddaughter, Trina Aikens; six sons, John, Joe Willie, Clarence, Marshall, Shellany (Daphne) Denham, and Rodney (Chequita) Daniels; 29 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mattie Humphries and Anna Aikens; four brothers, Johnny, Curtis , Arthur Lee and George Aikens; an aunt, Bessie Burston; two special friends, Nakia Ash and Diane Monday, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Jacques Andrews, Terrance Farley, Willie Andrews, Bashir Griggs, Carl Farley and Chris White. Flowerbearers were nieces and granddaughters. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 574 Glades Road, Eatonton, with the Rev. Terry Shepard officiating.
Hazel Linch Hughes
Hazel Linch Hughes, 88, died Sept. 22 at Eatonton Health Care. She was born in Putnam County, the daughter of the late Ben Allen Linch and Mary Will Jones. She was the widow of the late Weldon Hughes. A retired beautician, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eatonton. Survivors include several cousins. Services were Sunday afternoon at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel, with burial in the Central Methodist Church Cemetery.
Willie Mae Humphries
Willie Mae Humphries, 88, died Sept. 14 at the Eatonton Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a homemaker most of her adult life. She was a member of Pinkerton Grove Baptist Church, Benevolent Lodge # 60, Home Union Lodge #1 and a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star Superior Chapter #160. Survivors are two daughters, Rhunette Howard (Henry) of Atlanta and Barbara Ford (Johnny) of Eatonton; a son, Robert Humphries Jr. of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Debra Howard and Kevin Ford of Atlanta, Stanley Rod, Tonya Ford and Robert Humphries III of Eatonton, and Melinda Ford-Williams (Thalrone) of Savannah; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Henry and Joe Ward Jr, and two sisters, Lillie Farrar and Thelma Welch; a dedicated niece, Dorothy Evans of Eatonton; longtime neighbors Petronia and Doris Clapton; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services were Sept. 20 at Free Gift Baptist Church with the Rev. W. J. Reid officiating and Revs. T. L. Ingram, W. C. Ellision and Rev. Harriet Camp assisting. Burial was in the Free Gift Cemetery.
Thoms Howard Tanner
Thoms Howard Tanner, 82, of Milledgeville, died Sept. 21. A native of Washington County, he had lived in Baldwin for most of his life. He was the son of the late Thomas Eugene and Cleo Thompkins Tanner, and the widower of Carolyn Sheppard Tanner. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was retired from the Georgia Kaolin Co., and was active in the recreation department, where he served as a coach for Bacon Chevrolet Little League baseball team. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Howard Tanner of Auburndale, Fla., and Wade Sheppard Tanner of Elizabethan, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Thomas Tanner III of Savannah, Tess Tanner of Lakeland, Fla., and Ward Tanner of Elizabethan, Tenn. David Allen Hansen,44, of Eatonton, died Sept. 12, 2006 at his residence. Born on Feb. 6, 1962 in Rock County, Wis., he was the son of Robert Hansen of Janesville, Wis., and the late Rosemary Desalvo Hansen. Hansen graduated from Janesville High School in Wisconsin and owned a contracting business. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Glenis Harker Hansen, of Eatonton; a sister, Lauri Anne Jennings and husband Wesley of Milton, Wis.; a brother, Benjamin Hansen of Janesville, Wis.; and a number of other relatives and friends. Memorial services were held on Sept. 16 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Joe Kotovsky officiating. The family received friends after the service at the funeral home. Elsie Pierce Dunn, 94, of Milledgeville, died Sept. 15. A native of Douglas County, she lived in Bibb County from 1948 until 1975, and in Putnam County since that time. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Arvie Shell Pierce, and the widow of James Augustus Dunn. She was a member of Lakeshore Community Church. Survivors include two sons, Jim Dunn of Milledgeville andJohn Edunn of warner Robins; a granddaughter, Jennifer B. Cooley of Columbus; grandson, Robert J. Dunn of McDonough; great-granddaughter, Morgan L. Batson of Columbus and Lilly K. Dunn of McDonough; and a great-grandson, Robert E. Dunn of McDonough. Services were Tuesday at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Milledgeville, with burial in Baldwin Memorial Gardens. Vivian Lee Gallimore, 75, of Eatonton, died Sept. 14. She was born Aug. 31, 1931 in Ashboro, N.C., to the late Kermit King and Pearl Loflin. Everlean Waller-Williams
Everlean Waller-Williams of Eatonton died Sept. 17. She was born Oct. 16, 1924 to the late Charlie and Delia Waller. She has gone home to rejoice with her parents; daughters Queen Ester Reid and Gladys Smith; and brothers Charlie, Willie and Oscar Waller. Surviving to cherish her memory are four sons: Gus Davis, Jr., Rosell Williams, Hal Williams and Victor Williams; two daughters: Juanita Holder and Mary Williams; Step-son Alvin Slappy; two brothers: Wade and Joe Waller; sister Queen Anderson of Calif.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends she met along the way. Services were Wednesday at St. John AME Church with the Rev. R. C. Lockhard officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons, and flower bearers were family and friends. Burial was at East Eatonton Cemetery.
