Mrs. Heidi Johnson
Mrs. Heidi Markovcic Johnson, 35, of Millen died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003.
Her funeral will be 4 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 6), at Deep Creek Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bobby Taylor Jr., Bill Barksdale and Leroy Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, a native of Jenkins County, was a graduate of East Georgia College and Swainsboro Technical College. She graduated cum laude from Georgia Southern University. She was a sixth grade science teacher at Burke County Middle School. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta. She was a member of the Deep Creek Freewill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was preceded in death by her father, John M. Markovcic.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse Randall Johnson; a daughter, Mallory Johnson; a son, Marcus Johnson; her mother, Farris Poythress Markovcic; two sisters, Joylee M. Johnson and Wanda M. Black; and a brother, Allen Markovcic, all of Millen.
Active pallbearers will be Terry Markovcic, Bunny Johnson, Josh Reeves, Taylor Sturkie, Austin Chambers and Daniel Womack. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Deep Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Crowe-Fields Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Connie B. Cameron
Mrs. Connie Bennett Cameron, 51, a native of Waynesboro and the sister of state Rep. Alberta Anderson, D-Waynesboro, died of a heart attack at her home in Seattle, Wash., on Tuesday, July 29. Mrs. Cameron was the editor and publisher of The Seattle Medium, the largest black newspaper in that city. She was the recipient of many newspaper awards during her career in journalism, the most recent being an editorial award from the National Newspaper Publisher’s Association for editorial writing.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Willie Mae Anderson, her husband of 24 years, Samuel Cameron; a daughter, Jior Cameron; a son, Jason Cameron; five sisters, Juanita Smallwood, the Rev. Ruth Saunders and Joan Owens, all of Seattle, Betty Anderson of Tacoma, Wash. and Alberta Anderson of Waynesboro; two brothers, Chris H. Bennett of Mercer Island, Wash. and Albert Anderson of Seattle.
Mrs. Sara Farmer
Mrs. Sara Sanders Farmer, 81, of 412 Victory Drive, Waynesboro, entered into rest Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. G. Al Wright officiating. Burial followed at 3 p.m. at Louisville City Cemetery in Louisville, Ga. Mrs. Farmer was a native of Walterboro, S.C., but had lived in Waynesboro for the past 10 years. She was the loving wife of Edgar C. Farmer and the daughter of the late Milford J. and Lagatizie B. Sanders. Mrs. Farmer was a Baptist and member of the First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, where she also attended Sunday School. Survivors include her husband, Edgar C. Farmer of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carolyn Shuman
Mrs. Martha Carolyn Mundy Shuman, 88, of Waynesboro died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Fairview Park Hospital, Dublin, from complications of pneumonia.
Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro on Sunday, Aug. 3, at 3 p.m., with the Dr. David Carter and Rev. Billy Key officiating. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro. Mrs. Shuman was born in Cedartown, Ga., but grew up and lived her entire adult life in Waynesboro. She was the daughter of the late John Ernest and Louise Moate Mundy. She attended Wesleyan College and Georgia Southern University before graduating with honors from the University of Georgia. She taught English in the Georgia Public School System until World War II when she was called to work at Warner Robins military base. In 1946 she met and married a returning World War II hero, Robert Daniel Shuman. They established their home and business in Waynesboro, where she became a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was active in many of the civic activities of Waynesboro including the Waynesboro Garden Club, WMU and WCTU. Her favorite community service, however, was reserved for the Waynes-boro First United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the administrative board and leader in the United Methodist Women. Her favorite cause was Christian education, and with her husband she established four scholarships to support the endeavors and education of people pursuing full-time Christian ministry.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Daniel Shuman Sr. and her brother, J.E. Mundy Jr. of Waynesboro. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Shuman of Dublin; four grandchildren, Sarah Harper of Milledgeville, Katherine Shuman of Dublin, Elizabath Shuman of Atlanta and Robert Daniel Shuman III of Dublin. She had one great-grandchild, David Preston Caldwell Harper, son of Dave and Sarah Harper of Milledgeville. Pallbearers were Rob Shuman, Dave Harper, Rev. L. J. Shuman, Albert Shuman, Dr. Monty Shuman, Bill Craven, Bobby Edmonds, Bobby Neely, Dr. Lamar Murray, Steve Crawford, Dennis Taylor and Bo Cochran. Visitation with the family in Dublin was from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the family residence at 2310 Peacock Drive, Dublin. Visitation in Waynesboro was from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, at the family home at 650 South Victory Drive, Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that gifts be made to the Carolyn Shuman Scholarship Funds at either Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Dublin or the First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro.
Mrs. Jewel C. Radcliff
Mrs. Jewel Chance Radcliff, 74, of 501 Church St., Waynesboro, entered into rest Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta. Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. G. Al Wright officiating. Interment followed at Little Horse Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Woodcliffe. Mrs. Radcliff was born in Screven County, but lived all of her adult life in Waynesboro. She had retired from Southern Bell with 34 years of service. Mrs. Radcliff was Baptist and a member of Botsford Baptist Church, but also attended First Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Radcliff Sr. of Waynesboro; a son, Byron Eugene Quick III of Waynesboro; two stepsons, Thomas (Evonne) Radcliff Jr. of Gray and Bruce Radcliff of Missouri; and two sisters, Bertha Giddens of Statesboro and Willie Frances Robinson of Waynesboro.
Thomas Gravitt
Thomas “Tommy” Devin Gravitt, born Aug. 30, 2003, entered into rest Sept. 26, 2003.
Graveside services will be held today (Wednesday, Oct. 1), at noon at Sardis Baptist Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, Tabitha M. Johnson and Thomas E. Gravitt Jr.; a sister, Hailie E. Gravitt; a brother, Jonathan S. Braxton; maternal grandparents, Valarie Jenkins Fisher and Eddie Johnson, both of Sardis; and paternal grandparents, Lorrie Ann Evans of LaGrange and Thomas Gravitt Sr. of Newnan.
Russell Gray King, 56
died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at his residence.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah. Mr. King was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force and a native of Savannah. He was a charter member of the White Bluff United Methodist Church in Savannah. He was a dedicated horseman and enjoyed sailing. Mr. King was preceded in death by his father, Henry H. King, 1979. Survivors include his mother, Imogene G. King of Savannah; a daughter, Kimberly King of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Henry Hicks King III of Savannah; and a sister, Harriet Craven of Waynesboro.
Mr. Jack McBride, 66
of Waynesboro, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at McDonald Baptist Church, with the Revs. Carl Ledbetter and James Barnes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. McBride was a Screven County native, a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Louisville and a retired construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his son, Darrell McBride; and his parents, Jessie and Mabel Bassett McBride. Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer McBride of Wrens and LaDonna Hendricks Bridges of Warner Robins; four sons and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Amanda McBride of Waynes-boro, Josh McBride of Matthews, Jacob McBride and Jessie McBride, both of Wrens; seven sisters, Elma M. Johnson of Asheville, N.C., Lois M. Brant of Milledgeville, Nell M. Ezell of Savannah, Pat Cava-naugh of Wilmington, N.C., Priscilla McBride of Edwardsville, Ill., Ann M. Thompson of Sylvania and Dean M. Lowe of Tybee Island; four brothers, Bob McBride, Lahue McBride of Martinez, Lester McBride of Girard and Dennis McBride of Uvalda; one grandchild, Kayle McBride of Waynesboro; five aunts; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Eleanor Herrington Wills, 79
entered into rest Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at Beverly Manor.
Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro.Mrs. Wills was a Baptist. She was a retired bookkeeper and had worked for the Daitch Company. She was a member of the Civinettes, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Wills III of Las Vegas, Nev. and Frank Wills of North Augusta, S.C.; a brother, Mims Herrington of Atlanta; a sister, Henrietta Hayes of New Ellington, S.C.; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Collins, Charles Mongold, Brian Wills, Joseph Wills, Robert Wills and Tony Wills.
Mrs. Mary Ann Knight Herrington, 78,
died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Sumter Retirement Village in Plains, Ga.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 13, at Andersonville National Historic Site, with the Rev. Wendy Joyner officiating. A native of Evansville (Vanderburgh County), Ind., Mrs. Herrington was born Sept. 13, 1925, daughter of the late Louis Knight and Irene Squires Knight. She was the widow of Olen Earl Herrington. She was a registered nurse and practiced nursing until the age of 70. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Vicki Herrington of Americus; three grandchildren, Miranda Her-rington-Nunez of Perry, Monica Hyatt of Orlando, Fla. and Robert Herrington of Augusta; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella Nunez, Logal Herrington and Nicholas Herrington.

Mr. Otis “Billy” Palmer
Mr. Otis “Billy” Palmer entered into rest Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in Jesup, Ga.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Forest Hill Baptist Church in Keysville. Mr. Palmer was a native of Burke County and was the son of the late Spread Palmer Sr. and Rosa Lee Palmer. He had a compassion for his family and racing.
He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones; six children, Stephanie Walker, Toby Palmer, Andrea (Artavis) Palmer, Dexter Brown, Chantay Palmer and Kerston Bell; two godchildren, Erica Kelly and Kenytta Huntley; four brothers, Spread (Eva) Palmer Jr., Jesse (Annie Mae) Palmer of Hephzibah, Harry Palmer of Miami, Fla. and Ezumer (Johnnie Mae) Palmer of Keysville; and five sisters, Elizabeth Tate, Barbara (Donald) Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio, Dorothy Abrams, Willie Mae (Bennie) Daniels of Ft. Lauderdale and Christine (Norman) Evans of Waynesboro.
