Sylvia S. Ray
Sylvia Stapleton Glover Ray, 65, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007. A native of Wilkinson County, she lived in East Dublin a number of years before moving to Eastover, S.C. She retired as owner/operator of the Corner Store in Eastover and was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. Daughter of the late Hubie and Lucy Lavender Stapleton.

James W. Johnson
James William "J.W." Johnson, 91, of Penfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at Boswell Parker Nursing Center. He was born in Warren County on Feb. 27, 1916 to the late Luther Lewis Johnson and Estella Jones Johnson. He married the former Gussie Louise English on Dec. 16, 1939. For more than 50 years, he was the warehouse supervisor for Chipman Union in Union Point. He was a member of Penfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gussie Louise English Johnson, in April of this year; a daughter and husband, Frances and Anthony Crouch; a son-in-law, Billy Whittaker; a daughter-in-law, Donice Johnson; and six siblings. He is survived by a daughter, Loretta Johnson Whittaker of Penfield; a son, Steve Johnson and wife Kathy of Gulfport, Miss.; a sister, Mattie Maude McElveen of Eatonton; nine grandchildren, Stephen Johnson Jr., Crystal Johnson, James "D" Whittaker, Torrey Whittaker, Pat Crouch, Michael Crouch, Dave Crouch, Dan Crouch and Nita Crouch; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007 in Penfield Baptist Church with the Rev. John McMillian and the Rev. Bobby Bear officiating. Interment followed in Penfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ryan Mashburn, James Whittaker, Torrey Whittaker, Brent Whittaker, Stephen Johnson Jr., Jason Whittaker, Tony Ayers and Daniel Crouch. McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia A. Taylor
Virginia A. Kienker Taylor, 89, of Norwood, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at Coliseum Medical Center in Macon. She was born in Hamilton County, Ohio on March 2, 1918 to the late Harry F. Kienker and Clara C. Leischer Kienker. A resident of Norwood, she was a homemaker, 50-year member of the Seven Hills Chapter No. 589 Order of Eastern Star, past president of North Norwood PTA and devoted member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was the widow of Clarence C. Taylor and devoted mother of Ronald C. Taylor (Elaine) of Eatonton, William C. Taylor (Crystal) of Greensboro, and Kenneth H. Taylor of Greensboro, GA; and grandmother of Karyn L. Taylor and Melissa B. Milligan (Jim). Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 22, in Zion United Church of Christ. Interment followed at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Zion United Church of Christ, Indian Mound and Montgomery Road, Norwood, Ohio 45212 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229. McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro was in charge of local arrangements.

Juanita C. Kilgore
Juanita C. Kilgore, 86, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007. She was born in Hapeville and was a homemaker. Second Baptist Church of Warner Robins was her church home before moving to Eatonton, where she was a member of Lakeshore Community Church. She was a volunteer with Twin Bridges Fire Department. She was a member of NARFE, Ladies of the Lake and the Happy Dozen Sewing Club. Her husband, James C. Kilgore Sr.; parents, William and Leacy Chambers; daughters, Marie Merritt and Evelyn Batchelor; sister, Rudene Jarret; and brother, Charles Chambers, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Jemmia Collins of Eatonton; sons, James C. Kilgore Jr. (Shirley) of Fort Valley and William Martin of Roberta; brothers, Williams Elbert Chambers Jr. Of Eatonton, Jack Chambers (Louise) of Carrollton and Harold Chambers (Barbara) of Warner Robins; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. Funeral service was Friday, Dec. 28 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment followed in Magnolia Park Cemetery. McCullough Funeral Home of Warner Robins had charge of arrangements.

Travis R. Taylor
Travis Romeco “Meco” Taylor, 32, of Eatonton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at Central Georgia Medical Center in Macon. He was a native of Putnam County and attended Putnam County Schools. At an early age, he joined Jenkins Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include parents, Roosevelt and Dorothy Taylor; two brothers, Eddie (Kawanda) Taylor and Caneal Jahvon Taylor of Eatonton; grandparents, Willie Louise Taylor, Bertha (Otis) Bundrage; paternal grandfather, James Ike Waller of Eatonton; seven aunts, Mary (Earnest) Scott and Flora Coats of Atlanta, Abigail (Terrence) Nelson, Nellie Taylor, Lounell Andrews, Regenia (Tommy) Moreland, Barbara (Freddie) Riley of Eatonton; seven uncles, Adolph Davis of Atlanta, the Rev. Billy R. Davis, the Rev. Bruce (Gwendolyn) Davis of Milledgeville, Terry (Janice) Davis of Hinesville, Johnny Jackson, Tony Davis of Macon, Charlie Taylor Sr.; one niece, Jamya Miller; special friend, David Cutchfield; and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral service was Monday, Dec. 31 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Eatonton with the Revs. Matthew Dennis Jr. and Willie C. Jones officiating. Derrick Waller, Randy Dunn, Mark Reid, David Cutchfield, Charlie Taylor Jr. and Quentin Trippe served as pallbearers. The Compassionate Friends Club served as honorary pallbearers, and family and friends served as flower ladies. Bernard's Family Funeral Care of Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby L. Cumbie
Bobby L. Cumbie, 81, of Eatonton, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 in Eatonton. A native of Putnam County, he was born Aug. 13, 1926. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge Rising Star No. 4 F. and AM. Survivors include brother, James E. Cumbie and wife Judy of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Lunette Williams of Eatonton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was Dec. 6 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel with the Rev. Terry Coker officiating. Interment followed in Eatonton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Hughes Gray, Louis Kelly, Louis Adams, Rodney Vining, Jerry Hobbs and Jay Weems. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.

Alice W. Hawkins
Alice Wooten Hawkins, 83, of Gregory Lane, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, in a local nursing home. Daughter of the late Floyd Reid Wooten and Lillian Holle Wooten, she was born in Eatonton on Jan. 4, 1924, and had lived in Putnam County and Jones County for the majority of her life. She was a graduate of Putnam County High School, homemaker and member of New Hope Baptist Church in Jones County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Preston Hawkins Sr., and a daughter, Mary Louise Vaughn. Survivors include sons, Edmond Floyd Hawkins and Bradley Hunt Hawkins, both of Eatonton and Thomas Preston Hawkins Jr., of Social Circle; grandchildren, Jeff Vaughn, Bryan Hawkins, Patricia Vaughn, Brandy Mize and Erin Hawkins; and great-grandsons, Layton Langford and Ethan Hawkins. Funeral service was Wednesday, Jan. 2 in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, with the Rev. Colin Duncan officiating. Interment followed in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens in Jones County. Jack Wood
Jack Wood, 84, of Loch Way in Eatonton, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007. A native of Greenwood, S.C., he was born Sept. 21, 1923 to Homer William and Estelle Hall Wood. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired teacher and coach. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Frances Wood; son Mike Wood and wife Mary of Atlanta; daughter, Nancy Waller and husband John of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Lindsey Catrell and husband Jeremy of Charlotte, N.C., Ashley Waller of Knoxville, Tenn., and Katie Wood of Atlanta. Funeral service was Tuesday, Jan. 1 in Vining Ivy Hill Chapel with the Rev. Peggy Little officiating. Interment followed in Pine Grove Cemetery. Darren B. Bramblett
Darren Bruce Bramblett, 40, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born on Nov. 14, 1967 in Warner Robins, he was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. He enjoyed music and fishing. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Bramblett of Warner Robins; father, T.P. Bramblett (Penny) of Eatonton; brother, Stephen Bramblett (Diane) of Maysville; sister, Teresa B. Hawk (Gary) of Perry; brother, Mike Bramblett (Carolyn) of Cantonment, Fla.; and nephew and niece, Stephen and Rebecca Bramblett of Maysville. Funeral service was Sunday, Dec. 16 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home in Greensboro. Interment followed in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Frank C. Clopton
Frank C. Clopton, 98, of Gray, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Roberts Clopton on April 2, 2005. Survivors include a son, Richard Clopton and wife Linda of Eatonton; granddaughters, Beth Parrish and husband Mark of Gray, Donna Roberts and husband Sam of Buckhead, and Carol Renner and husband Ryan of Gray; great-grandchildren, John, Christopher and Brandy Parrish and Joshua Roberts. Graveside service was Friday, Dec. 14 at Eatonton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Christopher Parrish, Mark Parrish, Joshua Roberts, Clifford Beckum, Cody Kitchens and Jack Johnson. Jane R. Kimbell
Jane Robinson Kimbell, 61, passed away at her home in Greensboro on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007. She was born in Louisville, Ken. on March 31, 1946 to the late John Arthur Robinson and Gertrude Seymour Robinson. She graduated from Atherton High School in Louisville, Ken., and Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Va. She went on to receive her master’s from Emory University in Atlanta. Jane was a homemaker and member and president of the Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club. She is survived by her husband, Charles Franklin “Chuck”" Kimbell, of Greensboro; daughter, Shelby Kimbell Callinan and husband Bob of Charlotte, N.C.; son Jason Elliott Kimbell and wife Adrianne of Decatur; granddaughter, Grace Boone Callinan; and a host of friends and other relatives. Memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Great Waters Clubhouse in Greensboro. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605 or Oconee Regional Humane Society, P.O. Box 3986, Eatonton, GA 31024. Robert H. Davis
Robert Heywood “Bob” Davis, 71, of Eatonton, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 at his residence. A native of Conyers, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Davis of Milstead, who preceded him in death. He was retired from Ford Assembly Plant in Hapeville in 1991. He was a member of No. 519 Zingara Masonic Lodge, the York Rite and Yaarab Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife, Carleen Davis of Eatonton; sisters, Hazel Whitten of Conyers and Roselle Henschen of Atlanta; brother, Carl Davis of Tavares, Fla; mother-in-law, Murl Thigpen of Eatonton; brother-in-law, Bruce Thigpen of Woodstock; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service was Sunday, Dec. 16 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel with the Rev. John McMillian Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Eastview Cemetery in Conyers. Buford Shead
Buford Shead, 64, of Eatonton, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007. A native of Oconee County, S.C., he worked in home construction. He was preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers and three step-sisters. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lois Shead; sons, Ricky Shead, Michael Shead and James Shead; daughter, Janice Dickerson; stepsons, Shane Turpin and Lee Wilkins; grandchildren, Cason Coward, Amanda Shead, Kayla Shead, Vance Reid, Sara Payne, Brandon Wilkins, Christopher Turpin and Shaly Turpin; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Shead; sisters, Betty Shead, Frances Ramsey, Vera Smith, Jean Thomas and Nancy Russel; half-sisters, Eva Nell Pyle and Beatrice Owens; stepsisters, Dot Patrick, Peggy Brand and Grace Jones; brothers, Ray Shead and George Shead; and many nieces and nephews. Bessie L. Trumble
Bessie Lee Trumble, 71, of Eatonton, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007. A native of Swain County, N.C., she was born March 9, 1936. She was a member of Franklin Grove Church in Bryson City, N.C. Survivors include her husband, Leonard Linton Trumble; children, James Sizemore of Cherokee, N.C., Diane Millsaps of Bryson City, N.C., Ray and Michael Sizemore of Eatonton, Vickie Brown of Eatonton, Don Sizemore of Florida, Teresa Mace of Marion, N.C., Michael Trumble of Morgantown, N.C., and Ricky and Johnny Trumble of Marion, N.C.; brothers, Wade Mason of Bryson City, N.C., and Bill Mason of Morgantown, N.C.; sister, Margaret Crisp of Bryson City, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral service was Sunday, Nov. 24 at Crisp Funeral Home. Interment followed in Lauada Cemetery. Henry G. Daniel
Henry G. “Grey Horse” Daniel, 86, died Dec. 6, 2007. Born May 10, 1921, he was the son of the late Charlie and Lilly Daniel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie M. Daniel; brother, Billy Jackson; and grandson, Tyrone Harris. Survivors include one daughter, Alfredia N. Harris; brother, Charlie E. Daniel; brothers-in-law, Joseph Nelson, Walter Nelson (Willie Kate) and Robert Nelson (Betsy); nieces, Irene Walker and Minnie P. Bly; grandchildren, Pat Reese (Lionel), Teresa Butts (Samuel), Tonja Andrews (Everette), Peter Harris, Eyvette Cole (Calvin), Sandra Key and Stacy Smith (Michael); devoted cousins, Lena M. Brown, Essie M. Lawson, Gloria Rainey and Patricia Culp; devoted neighbors, Howard and Lena Reid; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was Sunday, Dec. 9 in Rice Memorial Chapel of Putnam Memorial Funeral Home in Eatonton with the Rev. Ozzie Hansen officiating. Interment followed. Family and friends served as pallbearers and flower bearers. Putnam Memorial Funeral Home in Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.

James L. Davis
James Lonzo Davis, 61, of Eatonton, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007. A native of Greenville, S.C., he was born Nov. 8, 1946. Survivors include a daughter, Cabby; six sisters, Alice Cumbie and husband Williams of Eatonton, Clyde Marshall of Eatonton, Sadie McMichael of Monticello, Christine Roark of Eatonton, Doris Arthur of Central, S.C. and Jean Nolan of Baton Rouge, La.; and three grandchildren. Graveside service was Saturday, Dec. 8 in Crestlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Hobert Roark officiating. Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.

Monica L Dunn
Monica LaSha Dunn, 27, of Scottdale and formerly of Eatonton, passed away Dec. 4, 2007. Her funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 9 at Greater Bell's Chapel Baptist Church in Eatonton. The Revs. Gregory Ellison and Charles Dunn officiated and were assisted by the Rev. John Ellison. Burial followed at East Eatonton Cemetery. She is survived by a baby girl, TyMeka LeSha Dunn; mother, Mechelle Farley; father, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dunn Jr.(Connie); grandmother, Willie Mae Farley; brothers, Dwayne Dunn, Jarvis Cox, Jamal Farley,Calvin Waller, Cavin Waller, Raetarion Davis; sisters, Kaniya Geter, Vinchedia Davis; one niece, Jamiya Geter; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
