Mr. Otis “Billy” Palmer
Mr. Otis “Billy” Palmer entered into rest Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in Jesup, Ga.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Forest Hill Baptist Church in Keysville. Mr. Palmer was a native of Burke County and was the son of the late Spread Palmer Sr. and Rosa Lee Palmer. He had a compassion for his family and racing.
He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones; six children, Stephanie Walker, Toby Palmer, Andrea (Artavis) Palmer, Dexter Brown, Chantay Palmer and Kerston Bell; two godchildren, Erica Kelly and Kenytta Huntley; four brothers, Spread (Eva) Palmer Jr., Jesse (Annie Mae) Palmer of Hephzibah, Harry Palmer of Miami, Fla. and Ezumer (Johnnie Mae) Palmer of Keysville; and five sisters, Elizabeth Tate, Barbara (Donald) Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio, Dorothy Abrams, Willie Mae (Bennie) Daniels of Ft. Lauderdale and Christine (Norman) Evans of Waynesboro.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Mae Carpenter
were held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Shipman officiating. Interment was in New Millen Cemetery, Millen, Ga.
Mrs. Carpenter became affiliated with Metropolitan Baptist Church where she served as Mother of the Church with compassion and kindness. Additional memberships included: Golden Star Court #223, Zion Chapter # 42 Order of the Eastern Star, Council #7 Crusaders, Thomas Grove Missionary Society and Pearl Hankerson Church Social Club. Mrs. Carpenter was predeceased by her mother, Ada Cross and her nephew, Michael James Jones. She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Mary Ida (Bob) Garrett of Utica, N.Y. and Emma Lee Cross of Waynes-boro; an aunt, Mary Simmons of Utica; special friends, the Reynolds family and the Sylvester family of Waynesboro; and cousins and a host of friends.
Mrs. Dorothy Buxton Coleman
Mrs. Dorothy Buxton Coleman, 47, of Steephollow Road in Gibson, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at the residence of her daughter. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at Bethel Methodist Church, Glascock County, with the Revs. Bill Daniel and Lonnie E. McCall Sr. officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Coleman was a native of Burke County, and a spot welder with Air Balance Inc. in Wrens. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Girard.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal McCall of Mitchell and Faith Ann Coleman of Augusta; three sons, Leon Coleman and Tracy Coleman, both of Gibson and Allen Coleman of Thomson; her father, Ben F. Buxton Jr. of Girard; her mother, Mildred Reddick Buxton of Sardis; a brother, Larry Buxton of Girard; a sister, Kay Wilson of Perkins; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were David Usry, Lonnie Wilson, Joey Welch, Billy Brasher, Mike Bailey, Larry Prickett, Lee Hobbs and Ricky Prickett. Lowe Funeral Home of Warrenton was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Gertrude Broxton Amos
Mrs. Gertrude Broxton Amos, beloved wife of the late Benjamin Francis Amos, entered into rest Monday, March 29, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 31), at Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bath, S.C., with the Rev. Bill Branch officiating. Mrs. Amos will lie in state one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Survivors include her son, Benjamin F. Amos Jr. of Waynesboro; four daughters, Deborah Raborn of Vidette, Connie Eubanks of Waynesboro, Tammy Amos of Augusta and Alice Ware of North Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louie Broxton of Alpharetta and James Broxton of Dearing; three sisters, Donna Nagy of Bath, Corine Glinski and Annie Mae Cooper, both of Aiken, S.C.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and relatives. Elliott Sons Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. James C. Green Jr.
Mr. James C. Green Jr. departed this life on Sunday, May 16, 2004.
Mr. Green was born in Waynesboro to the late James C. Green Sr. and Cora Dell Green Garner. He joined Metropolitan Baptist Church at a young age. After living in Florida for a few years he moved to Boston, Mass. and united with New Hope Baptist Church. Recently, he moved back to Georgia and worshiped at New Birth Baptist Church in Waynesboro.
Mr. Green was a member of Castle William Lodge #11 of Prince Hall Jurisdiction of Massachusetts, Noble of the Mystic Shrine in Syria Temple #31 and Order of the Eastern Star in Castle William Chapter. He was the owner/dealer of Warren Street and Blue Hill Avenue Mobil Stations for over 35 years.
Mr. Green was married to Barbara Glover Green and Ida Wright Green. To these unions, five children were born: Cynthia, Keith, James, Robert and Dexter. His four sisters, Lacy, Betty, Dorothy and Diane, and seven brother, Robert, Donald, Porter, Prince, Curtis, Ernest and Charles, will always remember and keep him close in their hearts. Mr. Green also leaves a beloved stepmother, Mrs. Mattie Green. Mr. Green had many family and friends that he loved and enjoyed. The family thanks you for your love and thoughtfulness during their bereavement.
Mrs. Charma Lee Dye
Mrs. Charma Lee Dye, 69, wife of James T. Dye, entered into rest Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Burke Medical Center. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 4, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, Hephzibah, with the Revs. Bobby Renew and Paul Bordon officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta. Mrs. Dye was of the Baptist faith and attended Believers Fellowship Church in Martinez. She was preceded in death by her son, Tommy Lee Dye; sister, Lorraine Tilley; and brother, Raymond Tilley. Surviving family members include two sons, James Timothy Dye and Donald Wayne Dye, both of Hephzibah; three sisters, Mary Brown and Ruth Harden, both of Augusta, and Etta Chavous of Martinez; a brother, Russell Tilley of Ft. Worth, Texas; and two grandchildren, Jamie Lee Dye and Aranda Dye, both of Loganville. Pallbearers were Robert Anderson, Wesley Chavous, Jamie Dye, Leonard Boone, Charlie Hartley and Chris Brown.
Mr. Michael R. “Mickey” McNorrill
Mr. Michael R. “Mickey” McNorrill entered into rest Saturday, June 5, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Botsford Baptist Church, Waynesboro, with the Revs. Wayne Dixon, Steve Hartman and Maurice Crowder officiating. Interment followed at the Botsford Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. McNorrill was raised in Burke County and lived most of his life in Jenkins County, Millen. Service above self was what he lived by every day; this service was to his God, family, work and community. He was currently a member of Grace Baptist Church in Evans. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a 1st Lt. from 1966-1969.
Mr. McNorrill retired from Georgia Power after 26 years as a manager. After retirement he worked for nine years at Bobby Jones Ford as a sales associate.
Mr. McNorrill was very active during the 16 years he resided in Millen. He was an active member of the Millen Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a past chairman of the deacons and as a director of the youth department. He also served as a Sunday school director for grades sixth through eighth. Mr. McNorrill also served the community in many ways. He was the Scout Master and Troup Leader for the Boy Scouts of America, Troup 234, and received the Silver Bear Award for Outstanding Leadership, and he also continued to serve the Boy Scouts on regional levels. He was a member of the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce, a past president and director for the Millen Rotary Club, an active volunteer of the American Red Cross and a member and past president of the Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club in Lincoln County.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Melba G. McNorrill; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Joseph McNorrill of Augusta and Benjamin McNorrill and his wife, Sheila of Fitzgerald; one sister, Lele Sasser of Waynesboro; two half-sisters Paula Jones of Columbus, N.C.; and Peggy Blackburn of Rock Hill, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Josh Mims, Blake Spires, Jarad McNorrill, Jared McNorrill and Katie Spires.
Pallbearers were Mac McNorrill, Larry Gilpin, Jerry Gilpin, Grant Grisham, Garrett Grisham and Wesley Parker. Honorary pallbearers were the sales staff of Bobby Jones Ford, Don Faigler, Darrell Kaminer, Ivey McMillan, James Sutton, Dewey Neighbors and Brice Salley. Mr. Cleveland “Pop” Young
The homegoing service for Mr. Cleveland “Pop” Young, 103, was 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Pine Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Fryer and Willie J. Jackson Jr. officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Young, the son of the late Mr. Young and Mrs. Lucille Ford Young, was born in Burke County on June 6, 1901. At an early age, he accepted Christ in his life and joined Pine Hill Baptist Church. He remained loyal and faithful until God called him home.
To celebrate his life of 103 years, he leaves three loving grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Flora Bell Ford; a loving, devoted and faithful niece, Bernadene Brihm, who nurtured and care for him until his death; a faithful nephew, Anderson Brihm; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His son, Willie Shubert, preceded him in death.
The funeral service for Mrs. Lottie Turner Martin
was held 4 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Thankful Baptist Church in Girard with Rev. Berry Rogers officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Her memories will be cherished by a kind and loving family.
She leaves to cherish her memories seven children, Geneva Scurry, Willie L. Martin Jr., Calvin D. Martin, Janice Martin Henderson, Carolyn A. Martin Bell, David K. Martin and Ozena Martin Upshur; four sisters, Lucille Sello of Sardis, Alease Pinder of Miami,Fla., Sarah (Sylvester) Gaines and Arlene (Willie) Burnett of Girard; three brothers, James Turner and Nathaniel (Alice) Turner of Girard and Willie Turner of Savannah; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Mrs. Videll Beasley Thames, 72,
entered into rest Friday, July 16, 2004 at Burke Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Alderman officiating. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Thames was a homemaker, worked for Burke Manufacturing for 20 years and was a self-employed merchant in Shell Bluff. She was a member of the Waynesboro First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Alexander Methodist Pallbearers were Smokey Thames, Punkin Thames, Buck Hammett, T-Beau Thames, Larry Daniel, Justin Thames, Boo Boo Thames and Donald (Duck) Thames.
Mrs. Patricia Marbut Hundley entered into rest Thursday, July 15, 2004.
A memorial service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at First Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy, Tenn. Pat was much loved and will be missed by many. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Soddy Daisy. She was preceded in death by her father, Rufus L. Marbut; and her mother, Eileen E. James. Survivors include her husband, Jack D. Hundley; two daughters, Kathy Blanchard and Nancy Daniel, both of Waynesboro; two stepsons, Doyle Hundley and Mike Hundley; two sisters, Shelva Brantley and Brenda Smith; six grandchildren, Buck Bell, Austin Daniel, Kristie Stilt, Wade Hundley, Tina Hundley and Dylan Hundley; and four nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be donated to the Building Fund, First Baptist Church of Soddy Daisy, P.O. Box 1357, Soddy Daisy, TN 37384.
