The Rev. Howard Gothard, 82, of Henagar, Ala., died Oct. 19, 2006 at his residence. Gothard was a World War II veteran and member and former pastor of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of Ider Masonic Lodge. He is survived by wife Lorene Gothard; son Gene Gothard, South Pittsburg, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Gothard, New Hope, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law Ruby and Charles Mayo, Kimball, Tenn.; daughter Crystal Parham, Chattanooga; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers James Aubrey Gothard, Bridgeport, Ala.; sisters Lillian Irene Tiffin, Bridgeport, Ala., and Susie Ivey, Union Grove, Ala. Funeral services were held Oct. 22 from Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with brothers Ben Barrentine and Kenneth Brown and fellow ministers officiating. Interment was held at Mountain Home Cemetery. BOBBY RAY JOHNSON
Bobby Ray "Tiny" Johnson, 71, of St. Augustine, Fla., died Oct. 19, 2006. He grew up in the Daus community near Dunlap, Tenn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Korea. He is preceded in death by parents Foster Johnson and Lucille Frizzel Johnson Hogue. He is survived by wife of 50 years Helen Thompson Johnson; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Kara Johnson, Tony and Barbara Johnson; and brother and sister-in-law Charles "Buck" and Joy Johson of Trenton. Funeral services were held Oct. 24 at Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine, Fla.
JAMES PELL JR.
James Albert Pell Jr., 56, of Chattanooga died Oct. 19, 2006 in a local hospital. He was a longtime resident of Chattanooga and was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by father James Albert Pell Sr., and daughter Ginger Ann Southerland. He is survived by mother Virginia Ramey, Trenton; son James Albert Pell III, Chattanooga; daughter Robyn Nicole Pell, Chattanooga; brothers Gary Pell, Rising Fawn, Donnie Wise, Chattanooga; sisters Susie Tucker and Pat Quarles, both of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Oct. 21 in the chapel with chaplain Ron Berryman officiating. Interment was held at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home, Trenton, Ga.

Doris Chapman Powell, 69, of Rossville died Oct. 22, 2006 at her residence. She was a member of Fairview Church of God. She is preceded in death by parents James and Estelle Chapman, husband Almon Powell, daughter Regina Powell, and brothers Bernard and Eldon Chapman. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Jimmy and Marilyn Powell, Terry and Brandi Powell; daughters and sons-in-law Debra and Floyd Rhodes, Peggy and Don Lowrance, all of Rossville; six grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Garry and Peggy Chapman, Rossville, Darrell and Nancy Chapman, Ider, Ala., Gerald and Dortha Chapman, Flat Rock, Ala.; sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Chuck Abercrombie, Ider, Ala.; half-sisters Billie Townson and Marie Hurst, Flat Rock, Ala.; several nieces and nephews. SHIRLEY BURGESS
Shirley Ruth Debter Burgess, 66, passed away June 25, 2007. Born in Sylvania, Ala., she served various roles in the Christian ministries of the Church of God. Along with her husband, Rev. Max Burgess, she helped to found the Rising Fawn Church of God and served several congregations as musician, teacher, ladies ministries leader and pastor's wife. In recent years she worked as part of an evangelistic team working under the State Evangelism Department of the Church of God in Northern Georgia. For more than 21 years she worked as an executive with the Windsor Group Insurance Group, coordinating claim damage recovery in a multi-state region. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Rev. Max Burgess; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Matthew and Edie McCard Burgess; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Hal Anderson; grandchildren, Miles, Abigail, Trippe and Lexie; sister, Ethleen Burt, Trenton; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be June 28 at 2 p.m. at The Church at Liberty Square Church of God in Cartersville with Rev.s Joe Edwards, Don Walker and Steve Brown officiating. She will lie-in-state from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery in Cartersville. Robert Daniel Caloni-Hart, 21, of Bryant, Ala., passed away July 21, 2008 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. As a young boy, he attended Bryant Church of God and loved basketball, football and fishing. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Mary E. Caloni. Marie Tinker Crownover, 80, went to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on July 23, 2008. She was an active member of Waterville Baptist Church, Cleveland, Tenn. She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga but had moved to Cleveland in her later years and had recently returned to Chattanooga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Collins Crownover, Sr.; an infant son, Ronald Terry Crownover; sister, Victoria Cooper. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jim Meletiou, Knoxville, Tenn.; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Alicia Crownover, Clifford and Patti Crownover and Benjamin and Marilyn Crownover, all of Chattanooga; a foster son, Richard Depue; three brothers, Archie Tinker, Ooltewah, Tenn., Estel Tinker, Trenton and Mitchel Tinker, Tiftonia; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Elna H. Grant, 87, of Trenton, passed away July 28, 2008 at her home. She was a longtime resident of Sand Mountain, a retired nurse having served during World War II and several years at Sandmont Nursing Home, and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Grant; brother, James Hawkins and sister, Anne Palmer. Phillip Harris, 86, of Trenton, passed away July 27, 2008. He was a member of the St. Elmo Church of Christ and was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy Sea-Bees. He was in the grocery business in Dade County for many years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude B. Harris. David P. Wilson, 43, of Lookout Mountain passed away July 28, 2008 at a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Lookout Mountain and had worked at Walter A. Wood Supply in Rossville for the past 14 years and recently started working in the sales department. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Wilson.
