SPARTA - Rosie M. Clayton, 71, of Route 2, Box 40, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, in a local nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha L. Timmons of Sparta; a brother, Charlie Brooks of Sparta; a sister, Ida Barnes of Florida; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will be at Ingram Brothers Funeral Home in Sparta at noon today.

EATONTON - Shirley Clary, 65, of 130 Crooked Creek Bay Road died April 11, 2002, in a local hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton, with burial in Heritage Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Kelly Clary of Eatonton; a daughter, Andrea Cliett of Byron; two brothers, Charles Evans of Griffin and Jimmy Evans of Newnan; two sisters, Florence Williams and Patricia Dozier, both of Griffin; and two grandchildren.

Nicholas Chase Akins, newborn son of Tammy Pounds-Akins and Douglas Akins of Milledgeville, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Baldwin Memorial Gardens.

Ann I. Hitz, 103, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, in a Tucker nursing center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Baldwin Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hitz was a native of Pennsylvania but made her home in Milledgeville for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Hitz Sr.; two sons, Thomas R. Hitz Jr. and Dr. George Hitz. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Betty Hitz and Margie Hitz; three grandchildren, Linda Shinkle, William T. Hitz and Randy Hitz; and two great-granddaughters.

Jestine Solomon of 552 Sparta Road died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001.

Mrs. Solomon was a native of Haddock, and attended the public schools of Baldwin County. She was retired from Central State Hospital. She was preceded in death by her mother, the late Annie Pearl Howard.

G. Rufus Sessions
SILVER SPRING, Md. - Dr. G. Rufus Sessions, 57, who served as chief scientific officer at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Commands's (USAMRMC) Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), died of cancer on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at his home in Silver Spring.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church of Milledgeville.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Born in Milledgeville on Nov. 29, 1945, he was a son of the late James Ross and Mattie Lucile Harrell Sessions.
During his tenure at TATRC, Dr. Sessions demonstrated an unparalleled depth of commitment to his work and contributed immeasurably to the field of telemedicine and advanced medical technologies. He was unrelentingly diligent in working toward the acceptance of these technologies in the user community, and as a result, distinguished himself as a pioneer in a field that is inherently forward-looking. In 2001, Dr. Sessions received the prestigious Thurman Award, the highest honor granted by USAMRMC for achievement in the field of telemedicine.
Before joining TATRC, Dr. Sessions served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army and retired as a lieutenant colonel. While on active duty, he spent many years at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, where his research focused on the behavorial effects of pharmacological agents and stressors. Dr. Sessions also taught for three years at the U.S. Air Force Academy, which underlies his excellence both as a scientist and an educator.
A native of Milledgeville, Dr. Sessions earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Florida Presbyterian College, now Eckerd College, a master's degree in general psychology and a doctorate in biopsychology from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Sessions loved sports and was competitive in tennis, diving and fencing when he was younger. He also enjoyed soccer and canoeing. Recently he was an avid golfer and snow skier and loved and excelled at country-western dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Jane Sessions; four stepchildren, Jason, Matthew, Megan and Amy Hauk, all of Frederick, Md.; a brother, Howard F. Sessions and his wife, Grace, of Milledgeville; a sister, Kathy Ivester Allen of Macon; and several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his extended family and lifelong friends and acquaintenances, especially Rebecca and Holly Hattaway.

CANTON - Dora Mavis Logue Burke (Mrs. W. P. Burke), 57-year resident and career nurse of Canton, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Fallbrook, Calif., at the age of 79.
A memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Canton.
Born in Laurens County, Mrs. Burke spent her life in service to others. She attended nursing school at Emory University and worked at Coker Hospital in Canton and at the former R.T. Jones Memorial Hospital in Canton until her retirement in 1993. Her nursing career spanned 54 years, 40 years as an operating room nurse. Mrs. Burke also served on the Board of Examiners of Practical Nurses of Georgia from 1953 to 1968. She was an avid walker and devoted rose gardener.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Greg L. McKee Jr. of Fallbrook, Calif.; a sister, Pearl Allen of Milledgeville; and three grandchildren, Alexandra McKee of Anchorage, Ark., Gregg S.B. McKee of Escondido, Calif., and Meredith McKee of Boston, Mass.

Mrs. Gray was the daughter of the late John Avery and Callie Ragan Barnes. She was a native of Boone, N.C., but lived in Ivey for a number of years. She was the widow of Elam Gray. She was a homemaker and a member of Rich Mountain Baptist Church in Elkin, N.C.
