Mr. Donald Christopher Baker
Mr. Donald Christopher Baker, 34, of Sardis died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 following a long illness.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Sardis Cemetery.
Mr. Baker, a native of Deerfield Beach, Fla., was a florist and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Yibbis Baker of Deerfield Beach; a sister, Tammy Williams of Perkins; a brother, Brandon Baker of Sardis; his father and stepmother, Donald and Mildred Baker, also of Sardis; his mother and stepfather, Stella and Wayne Hall of McBean; his grandmother, Sara L. Joyner, also of Sardis; his roommate, Fransico (Cesar) Silva, also of Deerfield Beach; and several stepsisters, stepbrothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Crowe-Fields Funeral Home of Millen was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Willie M. Sapp
The homegoing celebration services for Mrs. Willie M. Sapp will be noon Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. W.J. Crockett officiating. Internment will be in Phillip Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Her memories will be cherished by a loving and devoted family.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Phinazee and Son Funeral Home.
Mary Ann Whaley Williams
Mary Ann Whaley Williams of Waynesboro, wife of G. Frank Williams Jr. and daughter of the late Dessie Ford and Harriet Whaley, entered into rest Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005. A Rosary was held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waynesboro with the funeral Mass following at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro. Father Larry Goulding officiated.
Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Williams was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waynesboro where she served on the parish council. After graduating from Mt. Saint Joseph Academy in Augusta, she was employed by Southern Bell and later at Aquinas High School. She married and moved to Waynesboro where she became the owner of Williams’ Antiques.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, G. Frank Williams III of Savannah and Christopher Ford Williams and his wife, Lisa, of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Carter Franklin Williams and Meredith Claire Williams; brothers and sisters, Ellen Whaley Burroughs, Dr. Morgan Newman Whaley, Nancy Whaley Connaughton, Charles Butler Whaley and Becky Whaley Wisner; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. George Alvin Spencer
Mr. George Alvin Spencer, 60, of Waynesboro entered into rest Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005 at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta. Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Habersham Church Cemetery in Alexander with the Rev. Phil Wilson officiating.
Mr. Spencer was born in Allendale County, S.C.; however, he spent most of his life in Burke County. He attended El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Twin City.
Mr. Spencer is survived by two brothers, Frank Spencer and wife Becky of Waynesboro and Ben Amerson and wife Swan of North Carolina; two nieces, Angela Brown and Daisy Muns; two nephews, Marvin Tilley of Waynesboro and Andrew Brown; a grand-niece, Amanda McKehan; a grand-nephew, Walton Reed; and numerous loving cousins and friends. Pall bearers were Mark Quick, Steven Quick, Henry Bunch, Jim Wilkerson, Ted Widner and Steve Quick. Bobby Elbert Hayman
Bobby Elbert Hayman, 59, of Girard, died Monday Feb. 28, 2005 at his residence under hospice care.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Sardis United Methodist Church with the Revs. Karen Zeigler and Maxwell Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home in Sylvania.
The Chatham County native was a member of Pace Local #983 International Paper Union, was a retired operator at International Paper and a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, James Hayman, and a granddaughter, Ashley Heath. Survivors include his wife, Jean Finch Hayman of Girard; daughter and son-in-law, Kim Hayman and Steve Reddick of Girard; son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Dawn Hayman of Sardis; his mother, Louise Lewis Bassett of Sylvania; brother and sister-in-law, Bubba and Kristen Johnson of Richmond Hill; five grandchildren, Jordon and Brooke Hayman of Sardis and Brittany Reddick, Trent Reddick and Ashlyn Reddick, all of Girard; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Willie Zeigler, Don Lariscy, Ed McMillan, Chris McMillan, Billy Callison and Gavin McMillan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Brigham, Hubert Reddick, Pete Whatley, Glenn Shearer, Howard Griffin, Jimmy Stanley, Harold Jones, Judson Mobley, Bill King, Bubba Westbrook, Charles Whatley and David Whatley. Mr. Edward Jay Tarvin, 73,
of Louisville entered into rest at his residence Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005.
A memorial service will be held in Ft. Bragg, Calif., the home of his daughter and a memorial service will be held in Waynesboro at a later date.
Mr. Tarvin was a heavy equipment operator, bridge builder and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy and a Mason.
Mr. Tarvin is survived by a daughter, Robin Tarvin, and a son, David Tarvin, both of Ft. Bragg; a sister, Willene Spradlin of Boaz, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Joshua Bell and Jessica Frye. Memorials may be made to the local chapter of Masons.

David Heath
David McCray Heath, 31 of Jacksonville, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001. His funeral was 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel. Burial was in the Hephzibah Vance Cemetery. Mr. Heath, a native of Jacksonville, had lived in Waynes-boro for 15 years and was a 1988 graduate of Burke County High School. He was the owner and operator of Heath Transport in Jacksonville for the past three years. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Eliot John Heath of Jacksonville; a brother, William Curtis Heath of Hephzibah; a sister, Debby Morris of Gaithersville, Md.; his parents, John and Sylvia Heath of Waynesboro; and his grandfather, Eugene Curtis of Sylvester. Pallbearers were Matthew Maglowhorn, Ted Montgomery, Calley Jackson, Billy Jack Myers, Brian Gelaro and Andy Pope.
Lenny Dolinsky
Lenny Dolinsky, 85, of Augusta died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001 of cancer. Graveside services were noon Monday, Dec. 31, at Westover Memorial Park, with Rabbi Jordan Parr officiating. Mrs. Dolinsky, a native of New York City, was the widow of A. Joseph Dolinsky. She graduated from Washington Irving High School and attended City College before becoming a paralegal. She moved to Way-nesboro in 1940, when she married Mr. Dolinsky, a longtime business and civic leader in Waynesboro. They moved to Augusta in the 1980s. She was a fervent supporter of the Democratic Party, but was a Georgia elector for John Andereson's independent campaign in 1980. Survivors include a daughter, Anne Ullman of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Lewis Dolinsky of Berkeley, Calif.; friends from all over the world; and a cat named Pixie. Arnold Godbee
Arnold Godbee, 46, of Millen died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001 at his residence. Graveside services were 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Sardis Cemetery in Sardis, with the Rev. Pat Mahan officiating. Mr. Godbee, a native of Burke County, had lived most of his life in Sardis before moving to Millen 10 years ago. He was an electronic technician for Tor-rington Industries in Sylvania for eight years and served in the U.S. Navy 14 years. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his widow, Esther W. Godbee of Millen; five daughters, Jenna Long of Girard, Amber Barker of Hephzibah, Pamela Glover and Shannon Glover, both of Millen, and Heather Long of Sardis; a son, Chad Oglesby of Waynes-boro; three brothers, Willard Godbee Jr. and Raymond Godbee, both of Sardis, and Ronnie Godbee of Sylvania; his mother, Eddie Lee Godbee of Sardis; 13 grandchildren; a niece, Jennie Godbee; and a nephew, Allen Godbee.
Carrie L. Pyke
Carrie Leysath Pyke, 41, of Augusta died Wednesday, Jan, 2, 2002 at Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken, S.C. Her funeral was 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Bibleway Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Augusta, with Bishops Sylvester Norwood and William Frazier Jr. officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Augusta. Mrs. Pyke, a native of Aiken, attended The Lord Our Righteousness Church of God in New Ellenton, S.C. Survivors include her widower, Kenneth Pyke; a daughter, LaKeisha Leysath of Augusta; a son, Austin Mills of Augusta; two brothers, John Henry Leysath Jr. of Aiken and Ernest Leysath of Augusta; four sisters, Eartha Frazier of New Ellenton, Ella Booker of Charlotte, N.C., Betty Adams of Clarksville, Tenn., and Chris Leysath-Bush of Aiken; her father, Elder Henry Leysath; and a grandchild, Bryson Leysath of Augusta.
Hazel Chance
Hazel Irene Chance, 77, of the Pulaski Nursing Home died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001. Graveside services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro, with the Rev. Keith Jordan officiating. Miss Chance, formerly of Burke County, was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include a brother, Willie Oliver "W.O." Chance Jr. of Waynesboro; four sisters, Peggy Mentz of Decatur, Rachel Haynes of San Jacinto, Calif., Ruth Bernstein of Waynesboro and Linda Jenkins of Carolina Beach, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Ceabron Williams
Ceabron Williams, 66, of Millen died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001 at University Hospital, Augusta. His funeral was 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah Chapel, with Father Ed Gorney officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta. Mr. Williams, a native of Keysville, has lived in the Millen area for the past four years. He was a retired police officer with the Augusta Police Department, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Millen. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Theresa Williams Barnette of Millen, Anna Marie Williams of Augusta and Mary Ellen Yearwood of Martinez; a son, Daniel Ceabron Williams of Thomaston; three sisters, Jannie Royal, Annie Lou Burke and Mary Ruth Mixon, all of Millen; and a brother, Alex Williams of Millen.
Joel Powell
Joel Powell of Martinez died Monday, December 31, 2001 in Lincoln County. A memorial service was held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Elliott Sons Columbia Road Chapel, with the Rev. Ronnie Faircloth Jr. officiating. Mr. Powell, a native of Augusta, was an HVAC technician. He was a member of the Good Buddy Hunting Club and a member of Dallas Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Dawn Jacobson Powell; two children, Brittney Nimmons of Waynesboro and Dustin Powell of Martinez; two stepchildren, Shaun and Scott Jacobson of Martinez; a half sister, Shandy Lents of Hephzibah; two stepbrothers, Jimmy Murray and Kenneth Murray, both of Martinez; and his stepfather and mother, James and Evoynne Murray of Martinez. Elmer F. Bauer
Elmer Frederick Bauer, 88, of Augusta died Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at the Forest Lake Health Care, Augusta. His funeral was 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at DeLoach Funeral, Hephzibah Chapel, with the Rev. Chuck Fletcher and Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating. Graveside services and burial were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Oconee Memorial Park in Seneca, S.C., with military honors accorded. Mr. Bauer, a native of North Dakota, had served with the U.S. Army with three tours in Europe. He was a veteran of World War II and a master sergeant. He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Augusta, where he had served as a deacon. Survivors include his widow, Mildred Galloway Bauer of Augusta; three daughters, Vicki Fletcher of Lugoff, S.C., Judy Klein of Fayetteville, N.C., and Patsy Lavender of Augusta; a brother, Fred Bauer of Minnesota; a sister, Leona Jeske of Carrington, N.D.; 11 grandchildren, Adam, Nathan, Alison and Brian Howell, Christi and Brent Culbertson, Owen and Wil Lavender, Trish Lavender VanGorder, Carrie and Josh Fletcher; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Kate Culbertson and Caleb Howell. Pallbearers were grandsons. Granddaughters served as honorary pallbearers.
