Mr. John David Brawner, 45, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Taylor Telfair Regional Medical Center in Telfair County, Ga., as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
Mr. Brawner, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born May 13, 1958, the son of Martha Milhollin Brawner and the late William Heyward Brawner. He was a sales director at ESCO Industries Inc.
Survivors include: one son, Will Brawner of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Blair Brawner of Douglas, Ga.; mother, Martha Brawner of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Mike Brawner of Douglas, Ga., and Bill Brawner of Broxton, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Loi and Ron Lott, Liz and Chris Grantham, Brooke and Jeremy Lott; one aunt, Venita Milhollin and family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Douglas First Baptist Church, with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Soloist Blair Brawner sang "I Know You By Heart." Also, the congregation sang "He Lives," with Lewis Sinclair, organist, and Judy Foskey, pianist. Burial followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Mrs. Shirley Merritt Stinson, 66, of Willacoochee Hwy., Douglas, Ga., passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Stinson, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born October 6, 1937, the daughter of the late Clem and Ethel Andrews Merritt. She was a homemaker, a retired medical secretary and an EMT.
Survivors include: one son, Tim Stinson of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter Robin Wright and husband, Billy Ray, of Douglas, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jonathan Stinson, Jeremy Stinson, Kasey Wright, and Asia Boatright, all of Douglas, Ga., and T. W. Stinson of Clewiston, Fla.; one brother, Jerry Merritt and wife, Amanda, and sons, Zach and Stacy of Tifton, Ga.; nephews; cousin, Barbara Flowers; two aunts, Louella Cartwright of Pearson, Ga., and Rosa Andrews of Douglas, Ga.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 12, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Southview Church of God, with Rev. Hilton Martin officiating. Judy Foskey and Jamey Shrouder sang "The Light House" and "In The Arms Of The Angels," with Judy Foskey accompanying at the piano. Burial followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Mr. Dewey Paulk, 72, of Nahunta, Ga., passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mr. Paulk, a native of Ocilla, Ga., was the son of Elzy and Annie Barfield Paulk. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was the owner of a service station before his retirement.
Survivors include: two daughters, Wanda Hendricks and husband, Randy, of Hortense, Ga., and Wendy Paulk of Brunswick, Ga.; one son, Ronnie Paulk of Brunswick, Ga.; one brother, Gabe Paulk of Biloxi, Ms.; three sisters, Ann Benton of Douglas, Ga., Latrelle Davis of Fitzgerald, Ga., and Cleo Anderson of McRae, Ga.; four grandchildren, Josh and April Hendricks, Matthew Forest, and Marie Paulk; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Chambless-Frye Funeral Home Chapel of Nahunta, Ga., with Rev. Jon Johns officiating. Burial followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens in Douglas, Ga.

Pearlie Mae King
Mrs. Pearlie Mae King, 84, of passed away Thursday, January 15, 2004.
Mrs. King, a native of Glennville, Ga., was born October 31, 1919, the daughter of the late Louisanear Reed. She was the widow of the late James King and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served on the usher ministry. She worked for Mr. and Mrs. Neil Sims for 33 years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga., with Raymond King officiating. Special music was provided by the Shiloh Choir. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

P.L. McDonald
Mr. P.L. McDonald, 74, of Rt. 1, Pearson, Ga., passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., following a brief illness.
Mr. McDonald, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born March 13, 1929, the son of Tom and Lucy Floyd McDonald. He was a retired farmer and security guard, an avid outdoorsman who love hunting especially wildcat hunting with dogs, and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Elouise Brown McDonald of Pearson, Ga.; one daughter, Elaine Stodghill and husband, Donald, of Alapaha, Ga.; two sons, Lloyd McDonald and wife, Elline, and Roy McDonald and wife, Linda, all of Pearson, Ga.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Daniel O'Connell and Rev. Mike Gibbs officiating. Special musical selections, "I'll Fly Away," "On the Wings of a Dove," and "Lord Build Me a Cabin," were rendered by Fred and Tom McDonald, who accompanied themselves on the guitar. Organist Michele White played soft music for the prelude and postlude. Interment followed in the Holy Family Cemetery.

Nathaniel 'Buddy' Chaney
Mr. Nathaniel "Buddy" Chaney, 77, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Tuesday evening, January 20, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Chaney was the son of the late Bennie Chaney and the late Olif Harper Chaney. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired carpenter, and a member of Bushnell Chapel Church, although he had been attending Trinity Non-Denominational Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Wanell Sears Chaney of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Tony Lamar Chaney of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Terri Lynn Chaney of St. Louis, Mo.; one granddaughter, Tonya Lea Chaney of Douglas, Ga.; one grandson, Dusty Herrin of Patterson, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Herrin and Jonathan Herrin, both of Patterson, Ga.; two brothers, J.T. Chaney of Ocilla, Ga., and Rev. Jerry Chaney of Steele, Mo.; two sisters, Delia Lott of Douglas, Ga., and Mrs. Tony Hutto of Holt, Ga.; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Trinity Non-Denominational Church, with Rev. Floyd Musgrove and Rev. Jerry Chaney officiating. Special musical selections included "Wish You Were Here" rendered by Leon "Mann" Kirkland, and "Stroll Over Heaven" presented by Leon "Mann" Kirkland and Janie Ruth Kirkland, with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Lax Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Anthony Nathaniel Philpot, 49, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2004.
Mr. Philpot, a native of Waycross, Ga., was born August 17, 1954, the son of Mae Philpot and the late Nathaniel Philpot.
Survivors include: one daughter, Renal Johnson of Clarksville, Tenn.; mother, Mae Philpot of Nicholls, Ga.; three brothers, Quinton Philpot of Newport News, Va., Wayne Philpot of Nicholls, Ga., and David Philpot of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Nadine Collins and Vickie Johnson, both of Augusta, Ga.; three grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at noon, Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Popular Spring Baptist Church in Nicholls, Ga., with Bro. Bo Turner officiating. Special music was provided by James Barfield and soloist Martha Baity. Interment followed in the Nicholls City Cemetery.

Marjorie M. Paulk
Miss Marjorie M. Paulk, 67, of Ocilla, Ga., passed away Monday, January 26, 2004, at Irwin County Hospital.
Miss Paulk was born March 15, 1936, a native of Iriwn County, Ga., the daughter of the late Jacob T. and Margaret Gray Paulk. She lived in Irwin County all her life and was a former file clerk. Miss Paulk was a member of Henderson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed going with her church family to sing at nursing homes.
Survivors include: one sister, Grace P. Gibbs of Ocilla, Ga., one brother, T. J. Paulk, of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Paulk.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Henderson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Irwin County, with Elder Edward McIntyre, Elder Jimmy Chapman, and Elder Maurice Riner officiating. Interment followed in the the church cemetery.

Hazel Marie Howard Robertson
Mrs. Hazel Marie Howard Robertson, 78, of Burl Mills Road, Nicholls, Ga., passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Robertson, a native of Washington County, Ark., was born January 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Clarence Dean and Florence Graham Howard. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: her husband, Woodrow L. "Woody" Robertson of Nicholls, Ga.; three aughters, Janice Marie Cummings, Betty Dale, and Linda Dianne Harris, all of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Roberta Morris of Armona, Calif.; thre brothers, Dean Howard, Lester Howard, and Kenny Howard, all of Hartford, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Edith Elizabeth Lott
Edith Elizabeth Lott, 90, of 402 West Ward Street, Douglas, Ga., passed away Monday, January 19, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas, Ga.
Ms. Lott, a native of Jeff Davis County, Ga., was born November 21, 1913, the daughter of the late Albert Milton and Edith Bryant Williams Lott. She was a retired South Georgia College professor and a member of Douglas First United Methodist Church. Ms. Lott taught for 50-plus years, of which 29 years were at South Georgia College. She also taught the Shell Vickers Sunday School class at the First United Methodist Church of Douglas for 30 years.
In 1951, Ms. Lott was selected to participate in the John Hay Whitley "think tank" at Columbia University in New York. From this, she subsequently was bestowed the honor of becoming a John Hay Whitely Foundation Scholar. In 1956, Beta Sigma Phi named her Woman of the Year and nearly two decades later, in 1974, the same honor was bestowed upon her by the Georgia Pilot Club. In 1991, her tireless efforts for creating a better Douglas and Coffee County were recognized by the presentation of the Quincey Liberty Bell Award. Ms. Lott was a life-long Democrat and had served on many national, state, and local committees of this organization.
Survivors include: one sister, Margaret Lott Vickers of Douglas, Ga.; one niece, Miriam Vickers Holland of Conyers, Ga.; and one grandniece Sallie Graves and husband, John, of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Benjy Varnell and Dr. Carlton Carruth officiating. Soloist Jacqueline Fellows Hoyle sang "Surely the Presence of the Lord Is in This Place," accompanied by Louis Sinclair, Organist. Dr. Jim Cottingham gave the eulogy. Special poems and scriptures were read by Lynda J. Bagwell and Jeanette E. Moorman. Lurlyne Lott Smith presented special tributes written by former students Fereshteh Pezeshk of Tehran, Iran and Abdo N. F. Ballester of Roxbury, Ct., originally from the country of Cuba. Burial followed at the Douglas City Cemetery.

Mr. Richard Lee Teel, 13, of June Avenue, Douglas Ga., passed away Monday, January 19, 2004, at the Jeff Davis County Hospital in Hazlehurst, Ga.
Mr. Teel, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born November 26, 1990.
Survivors include: her mother, Julia Anderson Carithers; grandparents, David and Judy Anderson and David Dale Anderson, all of Axson, Ga.; three sisters, Ashley Teel and Rebecca Creamer, both of Axson, Ga., and Mercadez Dean of Folkston, Ga.; great-grandparents, Grace Wright, Willie Anderson of Douglas, Ga., and Seyene Anderson of Pearson, Ga.

Mrs. Catherine E. Taylor 74, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Taylor, a native of Emanuel County, Ga., was born December 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Lonnie and Shellie Yeomans Edenfield. She was a retired bookkeeper (41 years) with Coffee County Board of Education, the widow of the late Jack Jordan Taylor, and a member of Douglas First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Jan Morgan of Mystic, Ga., and Lynn Graham of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Ruth Broxton of Macon, Ga.; five grandchildren, Lindsey Morgan of Auburn, Ala., Abbie Morgan of Valdosta, Ga., Hayley Morgan of Mystic, Ga., and Kelsey Graham and Colby Graham, both of Douglas, Ga.

Mrs. Arletha W. Grady, 79, passed away recently.
Mrs. Grady, was born September 2nd, 1924, the daughter of the late Ella Dana Miller and the late Lorenzo Wilcox and wife of the late Jeff Grady Sr.
Mrs. Grady was a member of the Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include: three brothers, John Wilcox, Joe Wilcox and Columbus Wilcox, proceeded her in death along with two sisters Ella Mae, Brantley and Eula Moss. Five sisters, Maybelle Vickers and Mattie Curtis both of Douglas, Ga. Ruth Delaughter (Willie) of Detroit, MI. Bernice Crockett (Johnny) of Columbus, OH and Rubilee Miller of Jacksonville, Fl. Fifty-six grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; one brother: Lois Wilcox of Douglas, Ga. And lots of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 15, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Pine Street Church of God with Rev. Oscae E. Wells, officiating. A special music selection was a solo sang by Sis. Angela Johnson. Interment followed Vickers Chapel Cemetery in Willacoochee, Ga.
