Ruby Lee Stewart
Mrs. Ruby Lee Stewart, age 78 of Douglas, passed away Monday, Nov. 21.
Mother Stewart was born on July 1, 1927 in Coffee County to the late Bud and Carrie Scott. Mother Stewart was reared by her aunt, Mother Ethel Reckley of Douglas.
Survivors include: three sons, Mr. Willie James Stewart and wife Carole of Augusta, Elder Jimmy L. Stewart and wife Delores, and Richard Scott and wife Lisa all of Douglas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carlene Scott and Mrs. Annie Mae Truesdale of Moeven; five brothers, Mr. Henry Williams of Pearson, Mr. Harvey Williams of Douglas, Mr. Willie Williams and wife Ellen of Fort Valley, and Mr. L.C. Scott of Sanford, Fla., and a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Stewart was preceded in death by two daughters, the late Mrs. Carolyn Penn and the late Mrs. Ester Cohens; one brother, the late Mr. Freddie Scott of Douglas.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at Hightower Memorial Temple in Douglas with Rev. Randolph Scott officiating and Elder G. Frazier presiding. “Leaning On Everlasting Arms” and “I’ll Flay Away” were presented by the church choir along with other special selections. Min. Barbara Anderson and Min. Darlene Jackson each rendered a solo. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Otis Paulk, Michael Candelaria, Min. Richard Denning, David Gaskins, Halique Jordan, and Darius Wiley.
Honorary pallbearers were: men of Hightower Memorial Temple.

Gary White
Mr. Gary W. White, age 51 of Pearson, passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 24, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas following a brief illness.
A native of Coffee County, Mr. White was born Aug. 17, 1954, son of Chester Envey and Onie Lee Davis White. He worked as a welder for many years until retiring due to poor health. Mr. White was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pearson. He was preceded in death by a brother Envey Wendell White.
Survivors include: wife, Arlene Douglas White of Pearson; three sons, Justin White and wife Teresa of Douglas, Josh White and Ethan White of Pearson; two brothers, Bruce White and wife Catherine of Douglas and Raymond White and wife Betty of Blackshear; two sisters, Linda Bennett and husband Virgil and Donetta Wilkinson and husband Joe, all of Pearson; two grandchildren, Wayne White and Ty White, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. White were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pearson with Bishop Lamar Park, Bishop Steve Sirmans and Elder Justin White officiating.
Memories were given by Mr. White's son, Ethan White, and the eulogy was given by Elder Jamie James. Special musical selections included "Did You Think To Pray," "Because I Have Been Given Much" and "Till We Meet Again" rendered by the congregation with Ellen Hardee accompanying at the piano,
"Families Can Be Together Forever" rendered by family members with Ellen Hardee accompanying at the piano and "Believe" and "Hurt" provided by tape. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Ellen Hardee, pianist. The interment followed in Sunnyside Cemetery with the dedication of the grave given by Mr. White's brother, Elder Bruce White.
Serving as active pallbearers were: Eric Bennett, Chett Bennett, Phillip Mullis, Joseph White, Julio Martinez and Keegan Wilkinson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: The Hardee's Breakfast Gang, Tim Cecil, Howie Pierce and Joe Wilkinson.

Wilma C. Spivey
Mrs. Wilma Carver Spivey, age 75 of Ambrose, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 20, at Coffee Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Spivey, a native and life long resident of Coffee County, was the daughter of the late Alfred “Alf” Carver and the late Velma Young. She was the widow of the late J.C. Spivey and a member of Westwood Baptist Church. During her church work, she had been a mother to many.
Survivors include: three daughters, Carolyn Harrell of Ambrose, Brenda and DeWayne Hutcheson, and Shirley and Jeff Wade, all of Douglas; one son, Ronnie and Renee Spivey of Wray; 11 grandchildren, Jodi Scarberry of Tifton, Kerr Harrell of Ambrose, Simone Wilson of Athens, Jacy Pitts of Atlanta, Zane Spivey, Ronna Spivey, and Katelin Spivey, all of Wray, Dwan Hutcheson, Kade Hutcheson, and Bran Hutcheson, all of Douglas, and Jeffrey Wade of Lakeland; six great-grandchildren, Holly White and Heidi White, both of Athens, Hunter Spivey, Hannah Spivey, and Halle Spivey all of Wray, and Sierra Scarberry of Tifton; three brothers, C.A. "Buddy" Carver of Broxton, Vernon Carver and Donnie Carver, both of Ambrose; four sisters, Nadine Lawson of New Market, Ala., Geneva Sprouse of Jacksonville, Fla., Oda Morgan and Grace Collins, both of Douglas; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dressden of Starke, Fla., and Ruth Morrison of Willacoochee; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by two brothers, J.T. Carver and Milton Carver.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, with Rev. George C. Paulk officiating. Special musical selections, “He Wrote My Name” and “No Tears In Heaven,” were presented by the Westwood Baptist Church choir with Bernie Evans accompanying at the piano. “I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy” was presented by Joyce Roberts with Scott Roberts accompanying at the piano. Prelude and postlude soft hymns were rendered by pianist Bernie Evans. Interment followed in the Griffin Cemetery.
The congregation served as honorary pallbearers.

Virgie Lee M. Starnes
Mrs. Virgie Lee Mullis Starnes, age 80 of Lancaster, S.C., passed away Thursday, Nov. 24 at Springs Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Starnes was born on Dec. 28, 1924 in Monroe, N.C., the daughter of the late Arthur Mullis and Lottie Helms Mullis. She was the widow of the late Dewitt T. "Smokey" Starnes. Mrs. Starnes retired from Springs Industries - Grace Bleachery and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, William Eugene “Gene” Starnes of Lancaster; one daughter, Patricia Ann Starnes Nobles and husband Huey of Douglas; two brothers, Ray Mullis of Lancaster and Kenneth Mullis of the Philippines; two sisters, Kelly Gamble of Beaufort, S.C., and Glennie McManus of Monroe, N.C.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Starnes was preceded in death by a brother, Harrison Mullis and a sister, Ellie Starnes.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Starnes will be held on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 27, at 3 p.m., at Bethlehem Church with Rev. Reggie Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Scott P. Worth
Mr. Scott Perry Worth, age 29 of Willacoochee, passed away suddenly early Saturday morning, Nov. 19, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross as a result of an auto accident.
Mr. Worth, a native of Orlando, Fla., was a plumber with a local mobile home manufacturer. He had lived in Waycross and Americus prior to moving to Willacoochee. He graduated from high school while living in Americus. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and the grandson of the late Perry Travis Roe.
Survivors include: his wife, Leslie Worth of Waycross; one son, Skyler Perry Worth of Waycross; two daughters, LeAnna Soley, and Alexis King, both of Waycross; his mother, Brenda Paulk of Willacoochee; his father, Vernon Worth Sr., of Winter Garden, Fla.; two brothers, Vernon Worth, Jr., and Kevin Worth, both of Americus; one sister, Kerry Paulk of Axson; maternal grandmother, Patricia Roe of Axson; paternal grandparents: Marvin and Myrtice Worth of Winter Garden, Fla.; seven nieces, Whitney Worth, Kailee Worth, and Kendell Worth, all of Americus, Danielle Worth of TyTy, Breanna Paulk of Ocilla, Stazeya Hill and Akerin Hill, both of Axson; one nephew, Joshua Worth of Axson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Willacoochee Church of God, with Rev. Leland Watson officiating. Special eulogies were presented by Charles Smith, Kerry Paulk, and Shannon Phagan. Special musical selections, “Brothers Forever,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Free Indeed,” and “Amazing Grace,” were presented by taped music. Interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery.

Dorothy Kirkland
Mrs. Dorothy Minchew Kirkland, age 84 of Willacoochee, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 15, at home following an extended illness.
A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Kirkland was born Nov. 19, 1920, daughter of Abe T. and Eliza Tanner Minchew, Sr. She was a homemaker, former schoolteacher and she and her husband operated the Post Office in Kirkland for many years. Mrs. Kirkland was a member of the First Baptist Church in Willacoochee. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Kirkland, and her brother, Abe Minchew, Jr.
Survivors include: two sons, Bill Kirkland and wife Gloria of Pearson and Joe Kirkland and wife Cindy of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters, Melba Ray of Hapeville and Marion Park and husband Burton of Axson; four grandchildren, Ben Kirkland of Kennesaw, Shelby Kirkland, Jami Kirkland and Lindsey Kirkland, all of Lynchburg, Va.; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside funeral services and interment for Mrs. Kirkland were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at Antioch Cemetery in Pearson with Rev. Bill Huffstuttler and Rev. Jearl Fordham officiating. Special musical selections included "How Great Thou Art" rendered by soloist Ed Ray acappella and "Amazing Grace" rendered by the congregation.
Serving as active pallbearers were: John Boatwright, Don Ray, Brad Newman, Johnny McCrea, Edsel Lewis and Jimmy Park.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Marvin Giddens, Robert Park, Lamar Park, Gillis Carter, Ray Lott, Quinton Dillingham, Wade Brown, David Park and Ray Park.

David Sokol
David John Sokol, the son of Theresa Rakas, was born on Aug. 13, 1943 in Fulton County, New York. He passed away on Nov. 16 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas following an extended illness.
He served his country as a soldier in the United States Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, David relocated to Douglas, where he was employed by PCC Airfoils, Inc., for many years. He came to love the Douglas community and made it his home.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His mother, Theresa Rakas; one brother, Dana Rakas; special friends, Boot Curtis, Dot, Kim, Judy, Red, Faye and Jab the dog; and a host of other special relatives and sorrowing friends.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at McIver Funeral Home Chapel in Douglas with Min. Willie Carter officiating. Special musical selection was rendered by soloist Janice Anderson. Words of expression were delivered by co-workers and friends, Carolyn and Judy.

Thomas Ulmer
Mr. Thomas Jackson Ulmer, Jr., age 90 of Broxton, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 10, at home after an extended illness.
Mr. Ulmer, a native of Laurens County, S.C., was born Feb. 19, 1915, son of the late Thomas Jackson and Amelia Teresa Langley Ulmer. He was a retired school bus driver and he was of Catholic faith.
Survivors include: friend, Eloise Miceli of New York, N.Y.; cousins, William Harleston and John Harleston, both of Charleston S.C., and Rita Curtis of Augusta.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, in the Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Father Dan O’Connell officiating. St. Paul Church Choir sang “Be Not Afraid” and “You Are Near” with Ginger Burress, pianist. Burial followed in the Reedy Branch Church Cemetery.

Infant Arlt
Dalton James Arlt, infant son of Doug and Adrienne Arlt of Ambrose, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.
Survivors include: his parents, Doug and Adrienne Arlt; grandparents, Carol Thompson, and Richard Thompson, both of Ocilla; Debbie and Gean Powell of Eustis, Fla., and George Combs of Lost Creek, KY; great-grandparents, Estoria Reynolds of Ocilla and Peggy Greer of Eustis, Fla.

Judy Coppage
Mrs. Judy McDonald Coppage, age 61 of Axson, passed away on Monday, Nov. 28, at home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Coppage, a native of Atkinson County, was born Sept. 10, 1944, daughter of the late Jeff and Lisa Reliford McDonald. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: husband, Curtis Wayne Coppage of Axson; sons, Tony Coppage of Axson, Matt Brogdon of Germany, Jesse Brogdon of Tennessee, and Johnny Brogdon of Pearson; daughters, Rosa Brogdon of Columbus, Vicky Coppage, Cindy Coppage and Kay Coppage, all of Valdosta; sisters, Vada Hersey of Douglas, Lucille Jackson of Pearson and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edgar Musgrove and Raymond Coppage officiating.

Woodrow Harper
Mr. Woodrow Harper, age 85 of Ambrose, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at home after an extended illness. Mr. Harper, a native of Coffee County, was born July 30, 1920, son of the late Pearlie and “Lunnie” Louise Vickers Harper. He was a retired farmer and a former director with PCA for 18 years. He was WWII U.S. Army veteran and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. His church membership was at Mount Union Primitive Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for 50 years. Brothers D. J. Harper, Carlton Harper and sister Zueline Cannon preceded him in death.
Survivors include: wife, Sarah Paulk Harper; son, Jerry P. Harper and wife Lou of Ambrose; daughters, Glenda Ruth Lee and husband Buddy of Douglas, Dianne Moore and husband Roy of Ambrose; brother, Ira Harper of Ambrose; sisters, Arthur Mae Revel of Osierfield, Evie Spivey and Jacqueline Meeks, both of Douglas, Daphine Fussell of Ambrose, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Mount Union Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Julius Stewart and Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. Donnie Smith and Jan Hatfield gave the eulogy. Soloist Brad Riner sang “Beulah Land” and the Congregation sang “Amazing Grace” with Hoy Courson, pianist.

John Quilla “Jack” Dent
Mr. John Quilla “Jack” Dent of St. Simons Island passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
An acclaimed scholar and athlete, Jack is honored in the University of Florida’s Hall of Fame. Author, educator, and entrepreneur, his prolific career is noted in the National Register of American Authors. As an educator, he wrote the computer curriculum for International Business Colleges and taught Computer Programming at Fort Wayne, Ind., Junior Business College. An an entrepreneur, he wrote programs for the management of national trucking lines and worked as a computer consultant for various businesses such as AT&T and Motorola.
Survivors include: his wife, Jean; four children, Neil (Kelly), Noel (Anne), Jeff (Martha), and Ellen (Ron Kestner); four stepchildren, Donna, Jeanne, Tom, and Jack; six grandchildren, Carmen, Addison, Scott, Eli, Rolf, and Lorin; five stepgrandchildren, Kimberly, Rebecca, Grace, Joey, and Katy Sue; two brothers, Lowell Dent and wife, Mary, and his twin brother, Mack Dent and wife, Joan.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 12, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Douglas, with Rev. Tula Henson officiating. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
