Louise V. Fussell
Mrs. Helen Louise Veal Fussell, 82, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Tuesday evening, January 18, 2005, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Fussell, a native and lifelong resident of Douglas and Coffee County, Ga., was the daughter of the late Lonnie Jordan Veal and the late Ninnie Bell Carver. She was the widow of the late Rev. Roscoe Fussell and a member of Chatterton Grove Holiness Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Virginia Faulker and husband Charles of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Lewis Wayne Fussell and wife Linda, and Jimmy Raye Fussell and wife Jenny, all of Douglas, Ga.; five grandchildren, Randy Fussell of Denton, Ga., Mandy Fussell of Albany, Ga., Charlotte Emerson of Lake Butler, Fla., and Mark Merritt and Tonya Russ both of Douglas, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Fussell was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Faye Fussell, and one granddaughter, Salina Faulkner.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 21, 2005, at 3 p.m., at Chatterton Grove Holiness Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Merritt and Rev. Toby Gale officiating. Special musical selections were “Long, Long Journey” and “Sounds Like Home to Me,” were rendered by David Kirkland and Larry and Patsy Spivey, with Margie Smith accompanying at the piano. “Go Rest High On That Mountain” was presented by soloist Rev. Matt Rutland, with taped music. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Darrell Tucker, Kenneth Veal, Donnie Smith, Lidell Veal, Bill Gieger, and Rev. Glen Fussell.

James Stapleton
Mr. James Newton “Jim” Stapleton, 71, of Douglas Ga., passed away on Friday, December 31, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mr. Stapleton, a native of Dubuque County, Iowa was born on December 23, 1933, the son of the late Charles and Rose Mary Jabez Stapleton. He was a retired purchasing manager for mobile home industry a member at First Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga. He was also a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: his wife, Linette Brigmond Stapleton of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Mark Goodwin Stapleton of Ruta, NV, three daughters, Lee Ann S. Kulina of Jesup, MD, Leslie S. Martin of Duluth, Ga., and Rebecca Lynn Stapleton of Douglas, Ga., three brothers, Dr. Tom Stapleton of Douglas, Ga., Chuck Stapleton of Baltimore, MD and John Stapleton of Seattle WA; five grandchildren, Kell Kulina, Lavin Kulina, Josh Kulina, Samantha Martin and Zachary Martin, and several and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m., on Monday, January 3, 2005, at the Douglas First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Bateman officiating. Music was as follows: Terri Bailey and Pam Bennett sang “Amazing Grace” and “Beulah Land”; also soloist, Dr. Diskin Morgan sang, “How Great Thou Art” with Marsha Gilliard, accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Rand Vickers, Drew Moore, Charles Stapleton, Jimmy Stapleton, Richard Brigmond, and Ernie Rowland.

Thomas Price “Tom” Stubbs, Sr.
Mr. Thomas Price “Tom” Stubbs, Sr., 80, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, in Jeff Davis County, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mr. Stubbs, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born on April 3, 1924, the son of the late Francis Seaborn, Sr., and Lillian Drew Price Stubbs. He was the owner/operator of a mobile home manufacturer and the widower of the late Eleanor Annette “Toni” Bridges Stubbs. Mr. Stubbs was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Douglas First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Thomas Price Stubbs, Jr., of Douglas, Ga., one daughter, Sydney Lynn Prewett of Rockmart, Ga.; one grandson, Kristopher Michael Prewett; three granddaughters, Carie Lynne Prewett, Kelli Michele Prewett and Bridget Nicole Stubbs; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Stubbs was preceded in death by one brother, Francis Stubbs, Jr., and a sister, Mary Jacquelyn Stubbs Cubbage.
Graveside services and entombment were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2005, in the Community Mausoleum at the Douglas City Cemetery with Rev. Bart Thigpen officiating.
Active pallbearers were Ben Vickers, Jason Fuller, Bobby Bridges, Jimmy Kennedy, George Jarrard, Jr., Raymond Bailey and Danny Daniels.

Minnie M. Love
Mrs. Minnie M. Love, 85, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2005.
Mrs. Love was born on September 23, 1919, the daughter of the late Ira and Mary Island of Coffee County, Ga. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was the widow of the late Deacon Johnny Love.
Survivors include: two sons, Allen Poole and wife Helen of Columbus, Ohio; and Van Love and a special friend, Shirlene Pugh, of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, May Williams and husband Warren of Douglas, Ga.; two god children, Christine Washington Douglas, Ga., and Leonard Fletcher and wife Louise of Pittsburg, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Green and husband George of Waycross, Ga., and Bessie Island of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Henry Carson of Douglas, Ga. and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Love was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvertis Williams and Ira Island, Jr., two sisters, Jewell Carson and Othel Hall, and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 2 p.m., at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Steve King officiating. Musical selections were rendered by the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Choir, and soloist Tiwanna Herring. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, Ga.
Active pallbearers were Jerry Graham, Lorenzo Smith, Vicky Swanson, Elsworth Swanson, Jr., Willie Williams, and Elisha Williams.

Glenda (Atwell) Corbett Brown
Mrs. Glenda (Atwell) Corbett Brown, 88, of Walhalla, S.C., formerly of Pearson, Ga., passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Mariner Convalescent Center in Seneca, S.C., following an extended illness.
A native of Andalusia, Ala., Mrs. Brown was born August 19, 1916, the daughter of James S. and Ellie Wiggins Atwell. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern College and the University of Georgia. Mrs. Brown lived in Pearson and Douglas, Ga., for many years, where she worked in the School System in the field of speech. She later made her home in Walhalla, S.C. She was of the Baptist faith and when she lived in Pearson, she served at the First Baptist Church for many years as an organist and pianist. A very cheerful and caring educator, she touched the lives of many.
Survivors include: two sisters, Frances O’Steen and husband, R.L., of Douglas, Ga., and Nancy Faye McKinnon and husband, Rudolph, of San Diego, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Mable Corbett Stanley and husband, L.W., of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepson, Gene Brown of Walhalla, S.C.; three step-daughters, Elva Brown, Rose Cashen, and Jody Brown, all of Walhalla, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her first husband, John Carroll Corbett, her second husband, Arthur Brown, and her son, John Carroll Corbett, Jr.
Funeral services and interment were held at 4 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Sweetwater Cemetery, with Rev. Chris Carpenter officiating. The eulogy was given by William and Barbara Stephens. Special musical selections included “It Is Well With My Soul” and “In The Garden,” rendered by Candace Brown and Margie Mansour, with Candace Brown accompanying on the keyboard. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Candace Brown on the keyboard.
Active pallbearers were Tom Parker III, Dereck Carver, Mark O’Steen, Andrew Stewart, Woody Stanley, and Wade Brown.

Mary L. Newman Moseley
Mary L. Newman Moseley, 72, of Broxton, Ga., passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2005, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Moseley was born on October 8, 1932, the daughter of the late William Lonnie and Mary Alma Heath Newman of Abbeville, Ga.
Survivors include: her husband, Alfred Moseley of Broxton, Ga.; four daughters, Diane Yancey and husband, Jerry, of Ocilla, Ga., Patricia Waldon and husband, James and Sylvia Pridgen and husband, Jerome,all of Broxton, Ga., and Cindy Hurst and husband, Dennis, of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Michael Moseley, Sr., of Broxton, Ga.; three sisters, Myrtle Conley and husband, Mitchell, of Rhine Ga., Vivian Hancock and husband, Dean, of Dublin, Ga., and Margine Hollingsworth and husband, Joe, of Abbeville, Ga.; two brothers, Theron Newman and wife, Laquita, of Abbeville, Ga., and Randall Newman and wife, Trudy, of Glenville, Ga.; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Moseley was preceded in death by three brothers WA, Dillard, and Ed Newman, one sister Rueville Roberts, and two grandchildren Jared and Jonathan Yancey.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. Elic Bullington presiding. Special musical selections included prerecorded versions of “If Heaven” and “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” rendered by Glenda Courson. Interment followed in the Broxton City Cemetery.

Esther Myrle Artibee Noyce
Mrs. Esther Myrle Artibee Noyce, 95, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Noyce, a native of Osceola County, Michigan was born March 2, 1909, the daughter of the late Moses and Eve Emily Lammon Artibee. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late James Arthur Noyce and a member of Douglas First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Stanley J. Noyce and wife Suzanne of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Elsie Artibee Schroder of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Noyce Davis and husband Arthur Jr., Brenda Noyce Curtis and husband Paul, Leslie Noyce Vickers and husband Wesley, Janice Noyce (Norman, Jr.) McSwain and husband Norman, Jr., eight great-grandchildren, Lindsey Davis, Daniel Davis, Brandon Curtis, Cassie Curtis, Aaron Vickers, Nathan Vickers, Jenny McSwain and Beth McSwain.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. Benji Varnell officiating. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Joel Harrison Smith
Mr. Joel Harrison Smith, 60, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Monday, December 13, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mr. Smith, a native of Houston County, Ga., was born on February 25, 1944, the son of the late Spurgeon Warren and Annie Mae Durren Smith. He retired from the State of Georgia DOT and was a member of Faith Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Margie A. Smith of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Richard H. Smith of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Pam Falkel of Alamo, Ga.; four sisters, Myreen Rowell, Yvonne Chandler, Mary Jewell and Barbara Graham, all of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at Faith Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Gale officiating. Soloist/pianist Larry Richards sang “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “Beulah Land.” Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Donald Oscar Woodard
Mr. Donald Oscar Woodard, 62, of Douglas, Ga. passed away on Friday, January 14, 2005, at home following a brief illness.
Mr. Woodard, a native of Ware County, Ga., was born on October 17, 1942, the son of the late Oscar and Fannie Driggers Woodard. He was the widower of the late Sylvia Anne Hendrix Woodard, a self-employed construction contractor, and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Rachel Woodard of Douglas, Ga., Nicole Nasworthy of Waycross, Ga., and Donna Cothern of Alma, Ga.; three sisters, Dorothy Jean Strickland of Nahunta, Ga., Ann Dowling and Linda Spells both of Waycross, Ga.; five brothers, Jimmy Woodard of Hoboken, Ga., Glen Woodard, Lawrence Woodard, A. W. Woodard and Charles Woodard all of Waycross, Ga.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Central Baptist Church at 11 a.m., on Monday, January 17, 2005, with Rev. Wes Brown and Rev. Victor Gilbert officiating. The Central Baptist Church Choir sang “In The Garden” and “Nearer My God To Thee,” also, the congregation with Sidney Meeks leading sang, “Amazing Grace” with Margie Cason, accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Central Baptist Church Cemetery.

Aleph Adams Quick
Mrs. Aleph Adams Quick, 80, of Adel, Ga., passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Adel, Ga.
Mrs. Quick was born on September 2, 1924, in Coffee County, Ga., to the late Ivey Adams and the late Mollie Harrell Adams. Mrs. Quick had lived in Statenville, Ga., for 25 years prior to moving to Adel, Ga., three years ago. She was retired from the State Agriculture Department and a member of Statenville Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jeanie Day and husband Dr. Bill Day of Adel, Ga.; one granddaughter, Kellie Day of Tifton, Ga.; one grandson, Bradley Day of Adel, Ga.; two brothers, Stacy Adams of Douglas, Ga., and W.L. “Bud” Adams of Statenville, Ga.; Mrs. Quick was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby McQuaig, Nadine Chancey, and and one brother, Amos Wright Adams.
Graveside services and interment were held on Monday, January 17, 2005, at 2 p.m., at Harrell Grove Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jerry Chancy officiating.

Jimmy Carlton Murray
Mr. Jimmy Carlton Murray, 56, of Pearson, Ga., passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2005, at his home, following an extended illness.
A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Murray was born on July 24, 1948, the son of Jim and America Bowen Murray. He worked for the City of Pearson for many years and attended Ozias Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Jimmy Carlton Murray of Savannah, Ga.; one daughter, Rebecca Murray of Pearson, Ga.; three brothers, James Murray, Jr. of Pearson, Ga.; Clayton Murray of Millwood, Ga., and Shelton Murray of Douglas, Ga.; three sisters, Shirley Adams of Oxford, Ala., Latrelle Jordan of Pearson, Ga., and Faye Morgan of Douglas, Ga.; one grandson, Clay Warren of Douglas, Ga.; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey and Barbara Hamilton of Pearson, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Murray was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Ray Murray.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga., with Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Special musical selections included “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” rendered by Greg and Lisa Soles, with taped accompaniment and “Serenaded By Angels” rendered by Derrick Soles, with taped accompaniment. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Joyce Johnson on the keyboard. Interment followed in the Sweetwater Cemetery.

Evelyn B. Waggoner
Mrs. Evelyn Buck Waggoner, 85, of Brooks, Ga., passed away Friday, January 14, 2005, at Shady Acres Convalescent Center, in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Waggoner, a native of Fayette County, Ga., was the daughter of the late Henry Buck and the late Erma Holcomb Buck. She was a retired surger from a sewing manufacturer and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: her husband, Walter James Waggoner of Brooks, Ga.; one son, James Edwin Waggoner of Fayetteville, Ga.; one daughter, Patricia Ann W. Stephens of Brooks, Ga.; four grandchildren, Bradford James Waggoner, Clinton Ray Waggoner, Keely Brook Waggoner, and Kimberly Ann Boyd; two great-grandchildren, Madison Brook and Joshua Michael Dyer; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Graveside services and interment were held on Sunday, January 16, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, Ga., with Rev. Robert Dial and Rev. Ed Lynch officiating. At the gravesite, Kimberlie Dial, soloist, presented an old gospel hymn, “Amazing Grace.”

Marilyn D. Barlow
Marilyn D. “Mookie” Barlow, 65, of Atlanta, Ga., passed away on January 11, 2005, following an extended illness.
Ms. Barlow, a native of Ocilla, Ga., was born August 28, 1940, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Freeman and Liza Daniels. At an early age, she moved with her family to Douglas, Ga., where she was a member of Bethlehem Church of God in Christ and worked for 13 years for Swift Poultry, later known as Golden Poultry. She moved to Atlanta, Ga., with her children in 1985.
Survivors include: four children, Travis Wilson, Sr. and wife Lisa, and Freeman Daniels, all of Atlanta, Ga., Marcus Barlow and wife Tonita of Villa Rica, Ga., and Patricia Flukers of Marietta, Ga.; eight siblings, Ruby Harris, Thomas Daniels, Glen Daniels, and Oscar Daniels, all of Atlanta, Ga., Fletcher Daniels and wife Mary of Ambrose, Ga., Shirley McConnell and husband Richard of Douglasville, Ga., Elizabeth Williams of Griffin, Ga., and Lois Daniels of High Falls; one god-daughter, Celeste Williams of Douglas, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and several other relatives. Ms. Barlow was preceded in death by two sisters, Melvina Daniels and Azalee Daniels, and two brothers, Henry Lee Daniels and Freeman Daniels, Jr.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 16, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga., with Pastor Alexander Gaskin of Fellowship of Faith of Atlanta, Ga., officiating. The congregation rendered “Blessed Assurance,” and other special musical selections were rendered by soloists, Deidra Harris, Charlotte Daniels, and Gloria Denise Gaskin. Interment followed in the Ocilla City Cemetery in Ocilla, Ga.
Active pallbearers were her nephews.
