Marian Daley Peavey
Mrs. Marian Daly Peavey, 86, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, October 21, 2004, at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Peavey, a native of Nassau County, N.Y., was born February 7, 1918, the daughter of the late John and Alice Daughtery Daley. She was a homemaker, the widow of the late Bernard Franklin Peavey, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: one daughter, Marian Elizabeth Ross of Woodbury, Tenn., two sons, James Barry Peavey of Douglas, Ga., and Bernard Franklin Peavey, Jr., of Kissimee, Fla., five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2004, at the Evergreen Cemetery near Fitzgerald, Ga., with Rev. George C. Paulk officiating.

Johnnie McClendon
Mr. Johnnie McClendon, 66, of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away Saturday, October 9, 2004, at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. McClendon, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born April 30, 1938, the son of the late Horace and Ethyl McDaniel McClendon. He was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include: two sons, Ronny McClendon and wife, Virginia, of Douglas, Ga., and Robert McClendon and wife, Sherry, of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Raven McClendon Mendez of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Zane McClendon, Jordana McClendon, Penny Mendez and Colby Mendez; step- grandchildren, Mary Myers and husband, Jeremy, Cathy Herrington and husband, Eric, Denise Reed and husband, Aaron, Chris Carver, Vicki Carver, Andrew Guerron, Stephanie Patterson and Curtis Patterson, three brothers, Harvey McClendon, Edward McClendon and Freddie McClendon; one brother-in-law Huey Sears; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. McClendon was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Mcclendon Sears.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2004, at Mora Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Fussell officiating. The Mora Baptist Church Choir sang "Amazing Grace" and "Beulah Land," with Kathleen Merritt accompanying at the piano. A private buriel was held at the Mora Church Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Huey Sears, Mike Sears, Mike Merchant, Mike McKinnon, Kermit Sears, Andrew McKinnon, Walter Burch, Greg O'Steen, Larry Benton, Laymond Fussell and Raymond Moore.

Fannie Mae McClelland Jones
Mrs. Jones, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born December 14, 1919, the daughter of the late Jim McClelland and the late Viola White McClelland. She attended the public schools of Coffee County, Ga., was a faithful member of Young's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, serving in many capacities, and was the widow of the late Aaron Jones.
Survivors include: four children, Leroy, Cal, Clyde, and Meshane, all of Coffee County, Ga.; two daughters-in-law, Cora and Tracy McClelland; one sister-in-law, Rita Bell Jones of New Rochelle, N.Y.; one aunt, Mary White of Cincinnati, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at Young's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Broxton, Ga., with Rev. Booker T. Rose officiating. Interment followed at the Ambrose City Cemetery, Ambrose, Ga.
Active pallbearers were Thomas Pool, Carlton Lewis, Virgil Moore, Frank Tillman, Willie Carter, and Tyrone Reed.
Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Harrison, Bernie Lee Grady, Izal Northcutt, and Arthur Lee Johnson.

Georgia Brown Davis
Mrs. Georgia Brown Davis, 86, of Pearson, Ga., passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
A native of Wilcox County, Ga., Mrs. Davis was born August 27, 1918, the daughter of the late Charles Phillip and Martha Bagwell Brown. She was the widow of the late Troy Davis, a homemaker and a member of Refuge Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Jerry Davis and wife, Gloria, and Dale Davis and wife, Christy, all of Pearson, Ga.; one brother, G.W. Brown of Pearson, Ga.; one sister, Grace Westgate of Colquitt, Ga.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2004, at Refuge Primitive Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga., with Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. A special musical selection, "Amazing Grace," was rendered by the congregation. Interment followed in the Sweetwater Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Troy Davis, Phillip Davis, Lamar Davis, Mitchell Davis, Mike Barlow, and Greg Brown.

Joseph Daniel 'J.D.' Chaney
Mr. Joseph Daniel "J.D." Chaney, 88, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Chaney, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born November 3, 1915, the son of the late Ernest and Janie Spivey Chaney. He was a member of Chatterton Holiness Baptist Church, was a retired carpenter, and the widower of the late Alice Edna Music.
Survivors include: three daughters, Jeanette Westbrook of Caledonia, Miss., and Wilene Smith and Melinda Carver, both of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Alton Chaney of Frankfort, Ky., and Norman Chaney of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Hazel Johns of Douglas, Ga.; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and severalnieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 23, 2004, at Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. George Carroll Paulk and Rev. Gene Chaney officiating. The Ronnie Chaney family sang "Daddy's Hands" and "Stroll Over Heaven," with Ronnie Chaney accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Chatterton Church Cemetery.

Ellen Clarice Hursey Roberts
Mrs. Ellen Clarice Hursey Roberts, 75, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2004, in Appling County, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Roberts, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born March 24, 1929, the daughter of the late Jule and Pearl Hersey Hursey. She was a retired garment factory seamstress and a member of Faith Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Daphine Lang and husband, Stan, of Baxley, Ga., and Peggy Davis and husband, Johnny Ferrell, of Millwood, Ga.; one son, David Sears and wife, Brenda, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; three brothers, Joel "Bunk" Hursey of Jacksonville, Fla., Jimmy Hursey of Branford, Fla., and Bryan Hursey of Cleveland, Tenn.; one sister, Johnnie Faye Ardoyne of Waycross, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and step-children, Judy Williams, Betty Brogdon, Terri Roberts, Tina Roberts, Bill Gieger, and John Roberts. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by two daughters, Agnes Marie Crews and Tina Fernandez.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Tanner Baptist Church, with Rev. Kyle Giddens and Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating. Special music was performed by Chris Purvis, Faye Adams, and Carolyn Wright who sang "I'll Meet You In The Morning" and "Beulah Land," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. A special taped selection of "First Glimpse of Heaven" also was provided. A private family burial was held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at the Roxie Mae Church Cemetery near Nicholls, Ga.

Charlie 'Ray' Merritt
Mr. Charlie "Ray" Merritt, 63, of Broxton, Ga., passed away on Friday, October 8, 2004, at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Merritt, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born July 8, 1941, the son of Virginia Wise Merritt and the late Charlie Merritt. He was owner/operator of Po Boy's Restaurant in Douglas, Ga.
Survivors include: his wife, Carol Altman Merritt of Broxton, Ga.; one daughter, Cristal Merritt Bennett and husband, Tommy, of Broxton, Ga.; one son, Scott Merritt and wife, Tammy, of Broxton, Ga.; his mother, Virginia Wise Merritt of Broxton, Ga.; one sister, Marsha McElhenney of Macon, Ga.; four grandchildren, Garrett Griffis, Gatlin Griffis, Logan Merritt, and Madison Merritt; and three step-grandchildren, Blake Jewell, Dana Bennett, and Melissa Bennett.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2004, at the Broxton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Elick Bullington and Rev. B. D. Carter officiating. Cristal Bennett gave the eulogy. Special music was presented by Amber Burke, Teresa Burke, and Susan Munford, as they sang "Surely the Presence," and soloist Judy Foskey sang "Daddy's Hands." The congregation sang "Amazing Grace," with Susan Munford accompanying at the piano. Interment followed at Reedy Branch Church Cemetery, with Rev. John Homer and Brandon Burnam officiating.

Robert L. Blanks
Robert L. Blanks, 74, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away October 9, 2004.
Mr. Blanks, a native of Dekalb, Kemper County, Miss., was born June 8, 1930, the son of the late Napolean and Oddie Mae Blanks.
Survivors include: his companion for 35 years, Laura P. Walker; children, Diane Blanks, Shirley Blanks, Gloria Blanks, Linda Blanks, Robert Blanks, Crafford Blanks, Virginia (Russell) Blanks, Napolean Stevens, Tameka Stevens, Donell Stevens, Martisha Trimmings, Tormaine Stevens, Devorie Stevens, Porchia Stevens, DeAngelo Walker, Don Walker, and Ronnie Lee Tims; three special great-grandchildren, Atiyah Trimmings, Rivan Trimmings, and Travis Stevens; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2004, at Popular Spring Baptist Church in Nicholls, Ga., with Rev. James Banks officiating. Interment followed at the Nicholls City Cemetery.

Mr. Billy Jr. Hill, 57, of Douglas, Ga., passed away October 18, 2004.
Mr. Hill, a native of Meridian, Miss., was born on August 10, 1947, the son of the late Mr. Sherman and Mrs. Lorine Hill.
Survivors include: his wife, Eula Grace Hill; four daughters, Jean Hill of Jacksonville, Fla., Tanga Lee Hill-Reyes and husband, Eloy, of Willacoochee, Ga., Veronica Lorene Hill-Peralta and husband, Ponciano, of Willacoochee, Ga., and Deborah Cope of Tampa, Fla.; four brothers, Milton Hill and wife, Theresa, of Pearson, Ga., William Ray Hill and wife, Pearline, of Douglas, Ga., Herman Hill and wife, Virginia, of Pearson, Ga., and DeLouis Bell and wife, Rose, of Willacoochee, Ga.; six sisters, Mary Parnell of Willacoochee, Ga., Berta Mae Mansfield and Rosa Harris both of Pearson, Ga., Dora Wilson and Alma Hill both of Douglas, Ga., and Josephine Wilson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Jasmine, Danielle, Jocelyn, Alexandria, Miguel, Rachael Hill, Genice and Levein White; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by one brother, Shellie Hill of Hoboken, Ga.

Sherry White Tanner
Mrs. Sherry White Tanner, 42, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Monday October 11, 2004, as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
Mrs. Tanner, a native of Telfair County, Ga., was born November 20, 1961. She was the widow of the late Thomas Joseph Tanner.
Survivors include: one daughter, Haley Georgia Hollinger of Pridgen, Ga.; one granddaughter, Breeana Lynn Hollinger of the Pridgen Community; her parents, Cleveland Berry and Georgia Alice Seabolt White of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Julie Anderson and husband, Scott, of Douglas, Ga., three brothers, Robin White and wife, Carin, Darren White, and Ryan White, all of Douglas Ga.; her paternal grandmother Phrocine White of Cedar Grove, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2004, at First Congregational Christian Church, with Rev. Matt Rutland and Rev. Stacey Carver. The Mann Kirkland Singers sang "Long, Long Journey," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. Soloist Rev. Matt Rutland sang "Go Rest High On That Mountain," and a taped selection of "Amazing Love" was also provided. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, Ga.

Annie Laura Moore
Annie Laura Moore, 76, of Coffee County, Ga., passed away recently.
Mrs. Moore, a native of Douglas, Ga., was born March 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Gus and Jessie Mae Harper, Sr. She retired from Coffee County Concerted Services after 32 years of service and was a lifelong member of Young's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served as the Director of Mission in Action and Youth Director. She also was very active within the Willacoochee Missionary Baptist Association where she served as the President of the Women's Department. She was also a member of the Douglas Mass Choir.
Survivors include: her husband, Leviticus Moore, Sr., five children: Pastor Leviticus Moore, Jr. and wife, Cynthia of Fitzgerald, Ga., Mary Ann Huff and husband, Hilton Sr., Benjamin Moore, Sr., and wife, Barbara, and Wanda Carter and husband, Curtis, all of Douglas, Ga., and Charles Moore and wife, Tangellia, of Bentonville, Ark.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gus Harper, Sr., and wife, Alene, of Buffalo, N.Y.; special daughter, Dawn Jones; special caregiver, Loretta Littleton; and several nephews, nieces, and other relatives. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Williams Street, Idella Dessaw, and Jean Harper.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2004, at Young's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga., with Moderator Rev. Kenneth Glover presiding and Pastor, Rev. Booker T. Rose officiating. Interment followed at the Douglas City Cemetery, in Douglas, Ga.
