Willie Burch, Sr.
Mr. Willie Burch, Sr., 82, of West Green, Ga., passed away Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Shady Acres Convalescent Center, Douglas, Ga.
Mr. Burch, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born March 18, 1922, the son of the late Epherom and Ida Music Burch. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Calvary Full Gospel Tabernacle Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Odessa Carter Burch of West Green, Ga.; two daughters, Betty Jean Coleman of West Green, Ga., and Wilma Lee Adams of Douglas, Ga.; six sons, Willie Burch, Jr., Troy Burch and Roy Burch all of West Green, Ga., Billy Carroll Burch and Carlos Burch both of Douglas, Ga., and Robert Burch of Nicholls, Ga; one sister, Edna Ruth Scheeler of WA, 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at Pineview Church of God in West Green, Ga., with Rev. Evelyn Cox, Rev. Jesse Hathaway and Rev. Archie Kight officiating. Special music was provided by Chris Purvis, Carolyn Wright and Faye Adams who sang, "Shake The Master's Hand," "Jesus, Hold My Hand" and "Everybody Will Be Happy Over There" with Bonnie Musgrove, accompanying at the piano. Internment followed at the Calvary Full Gospel Tabernacle Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Don Adams, Terry Burch, Michael Coleman, Keegan Burch, Dewayne Burch and Jerome Burch.
Honorary pallbearers were: Aubrey McKinnon, Tony Jump, Ray Jowers, Keith Burkett and Keith Hersey.

James Lee Sevedge
Mr. James Lee Sevedge, 86, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, September 30, 2004 at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas, Ga.
Mr. Sevedge, a native of Crawford County, Indiana was born May 24, 1918, the son of the late Edward Marfield and Margaret Miley Sevedge. He was a retired machinist employed with a building manufacturing company and was a WWII Veteran of the US Army.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Foutch Sevedge of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Ruth and husband, Gerald Bussey of Douglas, Ga.; grandchildren, Jennifer Bussey of Savannah, Ga., and Brett Bussey of Athens, Ga., several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 2, 2004 in the Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Gibbs officiating. A "Medley of Hymns" Musical Interlude was rendered by Lois Mills, pianist; who also provided the Prelude and Postlude. Entombment will be held on a later date in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum in Richmond, Indiana.

David Clyde Arnold
Mr. David Clyde Arnold, 43, of Wray, Ga., passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta Ga.
Mr. Arnold, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born December 17, 1960. He was employed as a cabinet installer and a member of Green Acres Baptist in Warner Robins, Ga.
Survivors include: his mother and step-father, Barbara Jean Stone and Oren Lee, Sr. of Douglas, Ga.; his father, Clyde Arnold of Douglas, Ga.; one brother, Oren Lee, Jr. of Kathleen, Ga., and one sister, Melody King of Brunswick, Ga.
Graveside services and interment were held 4 p.m., Saturday, October 2, 2004 in the New Hope Church Cemetery near Ambrose, Ga., with Rev. David Bowen officiating.
Active pallbearers were: Greg Smith, Phillip Bass, Michael Stevens, Ricky Stevens, Chad Hollis, Shane Purvis, Joel Ward and Kathy Bill.

John Dykes
Mr. John Dykes, 45, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004.
Mr. Dykes was born in Houston, County to the late Milton Dykes of Milan and Betty Dykes Pitts, and had lived in Coffee County for the past 26 years. He was a member of Trinity Nondenominational Church and a cabinet maker.
Survivors include: his wife, Kathy Peacock Dykes; one son, John Dereck Dykes; mother, Betty Dykes Pitts; one sister, Lounelle White; two brothers, Seab Dykes and Bennie Dykes; one grandson, John Dylan Dykes; three step-children, Melissa Smith, Amy Justice and Billy Ray Swift, Jr. and five step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 1, 2004 at 2 p.m., at the Sweet Home Baptist Church in Milan, Ga. Internment followed in the Sweet Home Cemetery.

Henry Waddelle, Jr.
Mr. Henry Waddelle, Jr., 81, of Pearson, Ga, passed away Monday, September 27, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mr. Waddelle, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born August 3, 1923, the son of William Henry, Sr., and Addie Harrell Waddelle. He was the owner and operator of Waddelle Furniture Store in Pearson, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served as Bishop for many years. Mr. Waddelle was a member of the American Legion Post 173 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn White Waddelle of Pearson, Ga.; one daughter, Carolyn Mizell and husband, Corbitt, of Macon, Ga.; one sister, Lois Massey of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Melissa Devor and husband, Neil, of Calabasas, Calif., Corbitt Mizell III and wife, Loretta, of Draper, Ut, Aimee Lee and husband, Scott, of Maple Grove, Minn., Amanda Mizell of San Diego, Calif., and Brien Mizell of Macon, Ga.; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Waddelle was preceded in death by one son, William Henry Waddelle III.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 1, 2004, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pearson, Ga., with Bishop Lamar Park, Bishop Dan Vickers, and Bishop Ovid O'Neal officiating. Special family memories were given by Mr. Waddelle's grandson, Corbitt Mizell III. Special musical selections included "Oh My Father" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" rendered by the Pearson Ward Choir, and "How Great Thou Art" rendered by the congregation with EmStarr Cribb accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by EmStarr Cribb, pianist. Interment followed in the Sweetwater Cemetery with the dedication of the grave given by Mr. Waddelle's son-in-law, Bishop Corbitt Mizell. Military honors were rendered at the gravesite by an Honor Guard Contingent from Ft. Stewart, Ga.
Active pallbearers were David Sirmans, James White, Charles White, Stanley White, Michael O'Neal, Danny O'Neal, Britt Adams, and Porter Vickers.

Dennis Grady O'Steen
Mr. Dennis Gardy O'Steen 90, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Monday morning, September 27, 2004 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. O'Steen, a native of Douglas and Coffee County had retired from the Georgia and Florida Railway System, the Georgia Department of Transportation(State Highway Shop Division) and the Bailiff of Coffee County Court System. He was the son of the late D.L. O'Steen, Sr., and late Magie Chaney O'Steen and the husband of the late Beulah Bagley O'Steen. Mr. O'Steen was a member of West Ward Street Church of God
Survivors include: one daughter, Mavis Wright and husband Harold, of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Jeffords O'Steen of Valdosta, Ga.; one brother, Robert J. O'Steen of West Green, Ga.; one sister, Mary H. Baker of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren, Joy O'Steen Herring and husband, Danny of Lake Park, Ga., David O'Steen, Jr. of Valdosta, Ga.; Lemar Wright and wife, Pattie and Elaine Wright all of Douglas, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Mr. O'Steen was preceded in death by one son, David O'Steen, Sr., four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 11 a.m., at the Salem Holiness Baptist church with Rev. Jesse Ogden and Rev. Matthew McEachern officiating.
Special musical selections were "Blessed Assured," "Beulah Land," and "I'll Fly Away" rendered by Ben O'Steen and Carroll Carter with Georgia Ann O'Steen accompanying at the piano. "Amazing Grace" was presented by the congregation with Georgia Ann O'Steen accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers were: Dan O'Steen, Tony O'Steen, Jimmy Smith, Dan Minix, Kenny O'Steen, and Larry Mancil.

Myrtis Leggett
Mrs. Myrtis Leggett, 73 of Coffee, County, Ga., passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2004.
Ms. Leggett was born September 24, 1931 to the late Amos and Lottie Mazyck. She was an active member of the Broxton Church of God in Christ serving on the Mothers Board. Through here dedicated work at Shady Acres Nursing Home, many lives were touched, both young and old.
Survivors include: three daughters, Glenda Leggett of Miami, Fla., Sheila (Kenny) Arnold and Sherry Leggett of Broxton, Ga.; five grandchildren, Curtis (Princess) Leggett and Ambrose Leggett of Broxton, Ga., Tavaris and Juanita of Miami, Fla., and Faith of Broxton, Ga.; one great-granddaughter, Dewanna Holmes; two sisters, Clareatha (Bob) Lewis, and Willie Mae Sears, all of Broxton, Ga.; special cousin, Georgia Mae Merritt, two special friends, Fannie Johnson and Bill Moffett and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Leggett was preceded in death by her husband, the late Willie Leggett, Sr., and two children, Mishon Sharon Leggett and Willie Leggett, Jr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 11 a.m., at New Hope Covenant Christian Fellowship Center in Broxton, Ga., with Elder Arthur Robinson, Jr. officiating. Special musical selections were rendered by the choir and Deacon Emmanuel Wilson.
Active pallbearers were: John Sims, Larry McGill, Lacarvious Sears, Kenneth Dansby, and Jerome Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were: Junior Porter, Bill Screthen, and James "Jimmy" Lawrence. Internment followed in the Broxton City Cemetery in Broxton, Ga.

Jannie Corine Braden Hutto
Mrs. Jannie Corine Braden Hutto, 78, of Nashville, Ga., formerly of Douglas passed away Monday, September 20, 2004 in Nashville, Ga., at the Berrien County Hospital.
Mrs. Hutto, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born September 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Fred Mansfield and Emma Roberts Braden. She was a homemaker, a poultry processing line-worker and the widow of the late Marion Kendrick Hutto. Mrs. Hutto was a member of the Lax Holiness-Baptist Church for 51 years.
Survivors include: one daughter, Janice Ethridge of Nashville, Ga.; one son, Glynn Carver of Hazlehurst, Ga.; one sister, Betty Ruth and husband, Harry Griffin of Douglas, Ga.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one niece, Robin Burkett of Orlando, Fla.
Mrs. Hutto was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Carver and one daughter, Judy Carver.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 23, 2004 at the Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Fussell officiating. Special music was provided by Glenn and Kathy Fussell who sang, "Sheltered In The Arms Of God" and "City Of Gold" with Glenn Fussell accompanying at the piano. Internment followed in the Lax Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery in Coffee County, Ga.

Terry Lynn Duggan
Ms. Terry Lynn Duggan, 46, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Monday, September 27, 2004 at home after an extended illness.
Ms. Duggan a native of Duval County, Fla., was born August 8, 1958, daughter of Marie Lott Carter and the late Joseph D. Duggan. She was a video store manager in Douglas, Ga.
Survivors include: mother, Marie Lott Carter of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Deborah Revenell and Christy Lynn Garcia; one niece, Tina Carter and nephew, Eddie Garcia of Broxton, Ga.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Wilsonville Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Chester Williams officiating.

Euretha (Rita) Carswell
A very prominent and long time educator in Coffee County, Euretha (Rita) Carswell, passed away suddenly early Saturday morning. Ms. Carswell taught school for over 29 years with 27 years of her tenure being at Ambrose Elementary School. She was active in the Coffee Association of Educators where she has served as president and most recently as secretary. She was the chairperson of the Coffee County Spelling Bee for several years. She was also a 20 year employee of Wal-Mart as a customer service manager. Ms. Carswell was a very active lifetime member of Hightower Memorial Temple.
Her survivors include: two children, Timothy Carswell of Atlanta, Ga., and Tasha Hill of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Shirley Carswell of Douglas, Ga., and Dorothy Carswell of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Freddie Carswell of Douglas, Ga., and Raymond Carswell of Daytona Beach, Fla.
Funeral services have been set for Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Hightower Memorial Temple, located at 303 College Park Drive, Douglas, Ga.
The body will lie in state at McLean Litman Funeral Services, Friday, October 8, 2004.
Brantley Davis (Grubb)
Mr. Brantley Davis (Grubb), 44, of Mesa, AZ passed away Monday, September 27, 2004 at the Maricopa County Arizona Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Davis was born in Coffee County, Georgia on April 18, 1960.
Survivors include: one daughter, Bailey Davis of Douglas, Ga.; his mother, Gloria Davis Grubb of Mesa, AZ; his father, Edward L. Maier of Phoenix, AZ, four brothers, Mike Grubb and Stan Grubb of Mesa, AZ, Eddie Maier of Fredrick, MD, and Spencer Maier of Scottsdale, AZ.
Graveside services and Interment were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2004 at the Douglas City Cemetery with Rev. Marty Wilkes officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were: Scott Perkins, Jerry Perkins, Chuck Sims, Jim Minchew, Tommy Brice, Oscar Kirkland, Danny O'Steen, Victor Wilkes, Anthony Kirkland, Ted O'Steen, Druy Paulk, Craig McCrary and Bob Williams.

Pauline Johns Dowdy
Mrs. Pauline Johns Dowdy, 79, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Dowdy, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born October 13, 1924, the daughter of the late John A. and Neady Pitts Johns. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late Elvin Calhoun Dowdy.
Survivors include: one daughter, Linda Justice of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Alonzo Johns of Jacksonville, Fla., and Enoch Johns of Wray, Ga.; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dowdy was preceded in death by one son, Farrell Dowdy.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2004, at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home, with Rev. Clyde Johns officiating. Special music was provided by The Providence Church Choir who sang "I'll Fly Away" and "It Is Finished," with Georgeann O'Steen accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Salem Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Sallie Mae Johnson Vaughn, 79, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, September 16, 2004, at Shady Acres Convalescent Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mrs. Vaughn, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born November 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Jim and Nancy Burch Johnson. She was a retired seamstress and the widow of the late A.J. Vaughn.
Survivors include: one sister-in-law, Yvonne Johnson of Douglas, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and interment were held at 4 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2004, at the Evergreen Cemetery near Fitzgerald, Ga., with Rev. Sally Flowers officiating.

George Fussell Williams
Mr. George Fussell Williams, 78, of Pearson, Ga., passed away Thursday, September 16, 2004 at his residence in Atkinson County, Ga.
Mr. Williams, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born October 22, 1925, the son of the late Oliver and Miriam Fussell Williams. He was a retired farmer and a member of Stokesville Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Arlean Batten Williams of Pearson, Ga.; three aughters, Nancy Futch and husband, Lace, of Willacoochee, Ga., Connie King and husband, William, of Pearson, Ga., and Lori Ann Pharris and husband, Bennie, of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Sallie Meeks of Baldwin, Fla., two brothers, E.W. "Corny" Williams of Iowa, and Frances Williams of Nicholls, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Kelli King, William Oliver King, Victoria Ann King, William Fussell Futch, Amanda Pharris, Johnathan Pharris, and Tyler Pharris.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2004, at the Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Winston Wright and Rev. Bobby Fussell officiating. Soloist Larry Lewis sang "Beulah Land" and "Amazing Grace," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Royals Cemetery in Atkinson County, Ga.
