Mr. Earl Snipes, 63, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, Ga.
Mr. Snipes, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born November 17, 1940, the son of the late Raz and Agnes Miller Snipes. He was a self-employed yard maintenance person.
Survivors include: his wife, Beverly Jean Barker Snipes of Nicholls, Ga.; two sons, Robert Dale Snipes and Raz Steven Snipes, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and one brother, Sammy Snipes of Douglas, Ga. Mr. Snipes was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Snipes and Vernon Snipes, and one sister, Mary Ethel Snipes.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 10, 2004, at 4 p.m. at Calvary Mission Holiness Baptist Church, with Rev. Gene Chaney and Rev. Robert Tanner officiating. Special music was provided by Carolyn Wright, Chris Purvis, and Faye Adams, with Bonnie Musgrove accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Mount Pleasant (Byrd) Church Cemetery in Jeff Davis County, Ga.
Active pallbearers were Alfred Dody Hersey, Boyd Winters, Earl Wood, Edwin Youngblood, Richard Worth, and Michael Worth.
Honorary pallbearers were Satilla Hospice nurses, and nurses of Dr. Barawal and Dr. Singh.

Mary Alice George
Mrs. Mary Alice George, 74, of Baldwin, Fla., passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mrs. George, a native of Douglas, Ga., was born May 17, 1930, the daughter of the late James Wyatt Fales and Athie Logue.
Survivors include: her husband, William "Bill" George of Baldwin, Fla.; two daughters, Patricia "Pat" Tyndall and Teresa "Chegal" Smith, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, James Waylon Fales of Wichita, Kans.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. George was preceded in death by one son, Elisha Veryl Moore; one sister, Loraine Zimmerman; and one brother, Charles Fales.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 13, 2004, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home in Baldwin, Fla., with Rev. Bronson Clemants officiating. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at Harold Grove Cemetery in Douglas, Ga.

Homer Henderson
Mr. Homer Henderson, 82, of Ambrose, Ga., passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2004.
Mr. Henderson, a native of Ware County, Ga., was born July 6, 1922, the son of the late Lily Thomas Henderson and Homer Henderson, Sr. He was the widower of the late Mary Lee Stokes Henderson, was employed with Campbell Soup Company for many years, and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he sung in the Senior Choir, served as a deacon and on the Crisis Committee, and was a Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include: his wife, Ella Mae Paulk Henderson of Ambrose, Ga.; 13 children, Ernestine (Eugene) Harden and Lahoma (Spencer) Brockington, all of Miami, Fla., Dwight (Bernice) Henderson of Rome, Ga., Pastor Kenneth (Arienne) Henderson of Augusta, Ga., Constance Henderson of Homerville, Ga., Jereline (Walter) Coffee, Clyde (Eva) Green, Eloise (OthaLee) Doberson, Tony (Zinet) Green, Louella (Randy), Brenda (Willie) Webb, Johnny (Wanda Faye) Green, and Unie Pearl (Jerome) Wilcox; adopted children, Geraldine and Jewish Manning; a special friend, Dorothy Cherry; five sisters, Rosa Lee (Sam Sr.) Brooks, Hattie Mae (Roosevelt) Everett, Leola (J.H.) Gamble, Carrie (George) Jones, and Ruby Jean (Brawns) Johnson; three brothers, Pastor Herman (Vivian) Henderson, Jr., Edwin (Mary Alice) Henderson, and Frankie Henderson; 32 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two godchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by two children, Josephine Pope and Gene Green, one sister, Marion Jackson, and one brother, J.H. Henderson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga., with Pastor Steve King officiating. Special music was provided by the Mixed Choir, soloist Kasianna Magwood, and soloist Stephanie Braswell. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dempsey Gooden, Artis Paulk, Nathaniel Smith, Ronnie Johnson, Joe Reives, and Erskin Slacks.
Honorary pallbearers were Shiloh Baptist Church deacons as well as deacons and stewards of other churches.

Hugo Alejandro Osornio
Mr. Hugo Alejandro Osornio, 23, of Ambrose, Ga., passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004, as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
Mr. Osornio, a native of Mexico, was born November 11, 1980, the son of Filemon and Josefina Tinajero Osornio.
Survivors include: his parents, Feliemon and Josefina Tinajero Osornio; three brothers, Osbuldo Osornio, Lucio Osornio, and Julio Osornio; two sisters, Juana Osornio and Mayela Osornio; and his grandparents, Audelia Garcilazo and Lucio Osornio.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Daniel O'Connell officiating. Medley of Songs was the special music. Interment followed in the San Pedro Martir Cemetery in Tlalpan D.F., Mexico.

Christopher Lamar Harper
Mr. Christopher Lamar Harper, 42, of Wray, Ga., passed away Friday, September 3, 2004 as a result of injuries received in an airplane crash.
Mr. Harper, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born July 16, 1962. He was a graduate of South Georgia College, Valdosta State University and one year Pilot training. A Veteran of the US Air Force serving in Desert Storm, he was a Pilot and a farmer. Mr. Harper was a member of Mount Union Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife Angela Tucker Harper of Wray, Ga,; one son, Calan Lamar Harper; one daughter Candace Yvonne Harper; parents, Lamar and Wanda Harper of Ambrose, Ga.; grandmother, Narcess (Doll) Caves of Ambrose, Ga.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 11 a.m., at Mount Union Primitive Baptist Church near Ambrose, Ga.. with Rev. John Shelton Mikell, Rev. Lee Chambers and Rev. Vernon Eckleberry officiating. Special music was provided by soloist, Jason Hunkapillar who sang, "Amazing Grace" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain"; soloist, Anna Watson sang, "Daddy's Hands" with prelude and postlude by Justin Fussell, pianist. Special taped selections of "Butterfly Kisses" and "Top Gun" were provided. Internment followed in the Elam Harper Cemetery near Ambrose, Ga.

John F. Chaplin
Mr. John F. Chaplin, 61, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Chaplin, a native of Ware County, Ga., was born April 4, 1943, son of the late Vincent Kenneth and Emma Jane Cribb Chaplin. He was a retired South Georgia College maintenance person and was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include: wife, Blenda Chaplin of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Glenn and wife, Kathy Dobbins of Nicholls, Ga.; one daughter, Venus and husband, Darrell Powell of Douglas, Ga.; five sisters, Martha Jane Hall, Vivian Chaplin, and Cherry Lawrence, all of Ocilla, Ga., Mary Virginia Carter of West Hollywood, Fla., Emma Jane Fine of White Springs, Fla.; one brother, Kenneth L. Chaplin of Booneville, AR; seven grandchildren, Glenn Dobbins, Chelsa Dobbins, Allen Arnold, Jr., Brandon Arnold, Dylan Arnold, Brittany Arnold and Megan Powell; one great-grandson, Axl Arnold; special friend, Rufus Alexander and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Eugene Petty
Mr. Thomas Eugene Petty, 69, of Douglas, Ga., passed away early Monday morning, September 6, 2004, at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Petty, a native of Manatee County, Fla., had lived in the West Green and Douglas area for most of his life. He had lived at the Ward Terrace Apartment Complex for the past few years. Mr. Petty was a member of West Green Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his mother, Robbie Mae Chaney Pridgen of Douglas, Ga.; three sisters, Louise Griffin of Nicholls, Ga., Ada Jo Wilhelm of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mollie Burkett and husband, Wayne, of West Green, Ga.; one step-sister, Betty Jean Locke of Leesburg, Fla.; one step-brother, B.J. Lee and wife, Jewel, of Lutz, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Petty was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. T.L. Petty and his step-father, Stanley Pridgen.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, September 8, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Rev. Glen Fussell and Rev. Bill R. Huffstuttler officiating. An opening prayer was presented by Rev. Roy Davis, Jr. Special musical selections, "Jesus Loves Me" and "Amazing Grace," were rendered by Joseph Lee, Darlene Fesperman, and Jesse Brantley, with Raymond Herrin accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Burkett Cemetery.

Allen Vickers, Jr.
Mr. Allen Vickers, Jr., 87, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mr. Vickers, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born February 16, 1917, son of the late Allen, Sr. and Pearlie Stevens Vickers. He is the widower of the late Juanita Roberson Vickers. Mr. Vickers had retired from the Douglas Knitting Mills and was a retired farmer. He was a member at Harrell Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Stevie Vickers and wife, Marlene, of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Peggy Slocumb and husband, Carl of Valdosta, Ga., and Bonnie Kirkland and husband, Jimmy of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Evelyn Jowers; eight grandchildren, Bonita Willis, Michelle Peterson, Cecille Brigmond, Cassie Farmer, Kramer Vickers, Carl Slocumb, Jr., Lisa Maine and Tiffany Nagel; nine great-grandchildren, Amber Butler, Faith Starling, Andrew Starling, Emily Slocumb, Taylor Slocumb, Leia Willis, Peris Peterson, Blake Peterson and Megan Spivey; one great-great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Spivey, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Vickers was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen Vickers.

Johnnie B. Gibbs
Johnnie B. Gibbs, 72, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at Twin Oaks Convalescent Center in Alma, Ga.
Mr. Gibbs, a native of Ben Hill County, Ga.,was born January 3, 1932, the son of the late Wesley and Bertha Lee Palmer Gibbs. He lived most of his life in Ben Hill County, but for the past three years he lived in Nicholls. Mr. Gibbs was a retired farmer, a former employee of Harper Motor Line in Fitzgerald, a former recipient of the Ben Hill County Young Farmer Award, a member of Salem Baptist Church in Ben Hill County, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include: his wife, Alice C. Gibbs of Nicholls, Ga.; one son, Johnnie B. "Jay" Gibbs of Alma, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Angie Gibbs of Nicholls, Ga.; three grandchildren, Vickkie Kitchens, Kristie Smith and Jackie Fred Smith, all of Nicholls, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Dustin, Chad and Jessica Kitchens, all of Nicholls, Ga.; and four sisters, Evelyn Mays, Peggy Griffin, Minnie Gibbs and Betty Gibbs, all of Ben Hill County, Ga.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the Salem Cemetery in Ben Hill County, Ga., with Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. and Rev. J.A. Clements officiating.

Milton Thomas
Mr. Milton Thomas, 76, of Waycross, Ga., passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, Ga.
Mr. Thomas, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born September 15, 1927 the son of the late George and Olive Griffen Thomas. He was a retired boiler maker, and was of the Methodist Faith. Mr. Thomas was a WWII US Army Veteran.
Survivors include: three daughters, Gwen T. Stovall of Jackson, Ga., Jan T. Rooks of Hortense, Ga., and Wanda A. Mathews of Jesup, Ga.; one son, Donnie Thomas of Hortense, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2004 at the Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tommy Davis officiating. Special music was rendered by Lou Ray, Beth Harper and Lois Mills who sang, "Amazing Grace" and "Precious Memories" with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. Internment followed in the Spring Hill Church Cemetery in Irwin County, Ga.

Ferra Lee Davis
Mrs. Ferra Lee Davis, 89, of Pearson, Ga., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mrs. Davis, a native of Berrien County, Ga., was born March 9, 1915, the daughter of Arren and Lola Griffis Fountain. She was a homemaker, a member of Red Bluff Primitive Baptist Church, and the widow of the late John Davis.
Survivors include: one son, Edwin Davis and wife, Janice, of Pearson, Ga.; three sisters, Enola Osburn and Cholra Davis, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Latrelle Kirkland of Rocky Mt., N.C.; three grandchildren, Edwin F. Davis, Jr., and wife, Melissa, of Jesup, Ga., Regina Courson and husband, Terry, of Pearson, Ga., and Tracy Mizell and husband, Jesse, of Axson, Ga.; one step-grandchild, Gary Vickers and wife, Wylene, of Axson, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Brett Mizell, Carlton Taft, and Cole Davis; six step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by one son, Levurn Arren Davis.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at Refuge Primitive Baptist Church, with Bishop Dan Vickers and Rev. Mark Gibbs officiating. Special musical selections included "Amazing Grace" and "Rock of Ages," sung by the Primitive Baptist Singers and the attending congregation. Interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery.

Truman Russell
Mr. Truman Russell, 67, of Douglas, Ga., passed away suddenly Thursday morning, September 2, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Russell, a native of Union, Newton County, Miss., was a retired timber buyer. He had lived in the Douglas and Coffee County area for many years. He was the son of the late J. L. Russell and the late Turon Smith Russell. Mr. Russell was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include: wife, Betty Minix Russell of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Cindy Wright and husband, Rusty, of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Van Russell and wife, Brandy, of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren, Dustin Wright, Joey Wright, Rebecca Russell, and Rachael Russell, all of Douglas, Ga.; two step-grandchildren, Austin Tarrant and Montana Tarrant, both of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Evelyn Sturm of Collinsville, Miss.; one , J. P. Russell of Collinsville, Miss.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Mr. Russell was preceded in death by two brothers, Raybon Bryant and Hollis Russell, and one sister, Tressie Rigdon.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 5, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Salem Holiness Baptist Church, with Rev. Marshall Adcock and Rev. Byron Griffis officiating. Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery. A special letter "Daddy," written by daughter Cindy Wright was presented by Rev. Marshall Adcock. Special musical selections, "Long, Long Journey" and "Stroll Over Heaven," were rendered by Leon "Mann" and Janie Ruth Kirkland and Regina Williams, with Lisa Hersey, accompanying at the piano. "Beyond The Grave" was provided by taped music.

Elijah Tanner
Mr. Elijah Tanner, 80, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004 at home after an extended illness.
Mr. Tanner, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born December 4, 1923, the son of the late Manning and Emma Thomas Tanner. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army and was a member of the Forest Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Vernelle Roberts Tanner of Douglas, Ga.; son, Richard and wife, Linda Tanner of Coosada, Ala.; daughter, Lynn and husband, Tommy Harrell of Douglas, Ga.; grandchildren, Hanna Harrell and Hayden Harrell both of Douglas, Ga., Joshua Tanner, Christina Tanner and Jodi Tanner all of Casooda, Ala.; sister, Mae Stokes of Aiken, SC.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the Forest Grove Baptist Church with Rev. James Stead and Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Special music was provided by William and Jackie Smith who sang, "Look What I've Traded" and soloist, Michael Thomas sang, "Beulah Land" and "Go Rest High On that Mountain"; also, the Congregation sang "Amazing Grace" with William Smith accompanying at the piano.
Graveside services and burial followed in the Forest Grove Church Cemetery with Rev. John Thomas officiating.
