Colleen Pridgen Adams
Mrs. Colleen Pridgen Adams, 73, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Saturday morning, September 4, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Adams, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was a retired teacher of the Coffee County School System. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Pridgen and the late Ruby Lewis Pridgen, and the widow of the late Sidney Hayward Adams. Mrs. Adams was a member of Harrell Grove Baptist Church, where she had served as the church pianist for many years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Donna Adams and Deborah A. Barrett and husband, Steve, all of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Sid Adams and wife, Sherry, of Douglas, Ga.; five grandchildren, Leah Merritt, Caleb Barrett, Cameron Adams, Garrett Adams, and Savannah Adams, all of Douglas, Ga.; one brother, Howard L. Pridgen of Waycross, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Arthur Pridgen.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Harrell Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Tommy Rigdon officiating. Special musical selections, "Beulah Land" was presented by soloist J.W. Willis, with taped music, and "Go Rest High On That Mountain" was presented by soloist Caleb Barrett, with taped music. Prelude and postlude soft hymns were presented by pianist Allen McCarty.
Interment followed in the Satilla Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Ken Vickers, Cameron Adams, Garrett Adams, Marshall Pridgen, Howard Pridgen, Jr., and Steve Barrett.

Mattie Lee Thrower
Mrs. Mattie Lee Thrower, 71, of Stockbridge, Ga., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge, Ga.
Mrs. Thrower, a native of Turner County, Ga., was born February 17, 1933, the daughter of the late Monroe Nickerson and Georgia Mae Black Nickerson. She was a faithful member of St. Luke Baptist Church in Rebecca, Ga., early in her life, then later at Lighthouse Gospel Ministries in McDonough, Ga. She was the widow of the late John Thrower.
Survivors include: 13 children, Annie Mae Johnson and husband, Willie, Ethel Jackson and husband, Cornelius, Daisey Thrower, Johnnie Mae Smith and husband, Freddie, Anderson Thrower and wife, Joyce, Earnestine Friend and husband, Larry, Emma Dean Wiggins, Everlene Johnson and husband, Marcus, Charlsell Thrower and wife, Georgina, Carlsell Thrower and wife, Michelle, Eva Myles and husband, Jessie, Marc Dexter Thrower, and Gerry Young and wife, Cassey; two brothers, Felix Nickerson and Cecil Nickerson; four sisters, Roberta Poke, Georgia Kate Killiebrew, Pearl Pierce and husband, Albert, Jr., and Anna Jane Bailey; 40 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mrs. Thrower was preceded in death by one daughter, Aleane Curry; and two brothers, Monroe Nickerson and Willie Nickerson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2004, at Sears Street Church of God, Douglas, Ga., with Pastor Nelson Turner officiating. Interment followed in the Westwood Cemetery, Fitzgerald, Ga.

Marilyn Futch Guthrie
Marilyn Futch Guthrie, 75, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away early Wednesday morning, September 1, 2004, at the Appling County Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Mrs. Guthrie, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born July 29, 1929, the daughter of the late William Grady Futch and Lou Ethel Cothern Futch. She was the widow of the late Elisha James Guthrie and was a member of Nicholls Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one son, James William Guthrie and wife, Jan, of Eatonton, Ga.; one daughter, Dr. Brenda G. Gillis and husband, Lonnie, of Nicholls, Ga.; five grandchildren, Beth Gillis Priddle of Lisbon, Maine, Eva Gillis Martin of Richmond, Va., Ellen Gillis Trowell of Nicholls, Ga., James Guthrie of Alexandria, Va., and John Guthrie of Athens, Ga.; and five great grandchildren, Kyle and Kody Priddle of Lisbon, Maine, Michael and Hunter Martin of Richmond, Va., and Thomas and Tyler Walden of Nicholls, Ga.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. A eulogy was given by Mrs. Guthrie's grandson, James Guthrie. Interment followed in Roberts Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean Sabine Sheldon
Mrs. Dorothy Jean Sabine Sheldon, 43, of Huntsville, Ala., passed away Thursday, September 2, 2004, at the Huntsville Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Sheldon, a native of Argencia Newfoundland, Canada, was born October 22, 1960, the daughter of Edward A. Sabine and Emma Jane Spires Sabine of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. She was associated with Barnett Bank, Nations Bank, Bank of America, and Compass Bank, working in several officer capacities for the last 20 years.
Survivors include: her husband, Richard L. Sheldon of Huntsville, Ala.; one step-daughter, Jennifer Patton; grandson, Jamey Patton; parents, Edward A. Sabine and Emma Jane Spires Sabine of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; one sister, Dawn Sabine Bedford; niece, Blythe Marie Bedford; favorite uncle, Guy Spires; two half-sisters, Debra and Connie; one half-brother, Charles; several other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, September 11, 2004, at First Baptist Church in New Hope, Ala., with Rev. Larry Bishop officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or to the United Way's program for abused women and children.

Myrtle Myers Vickers
Mrs. Myrtle Myers Vickers, 89, of Douglas Ga., passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Vickers, a native of Berrien County, Ga., was born August 6, 1915, the daughter of the late John Jacob and Lula Alexander Myers. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late Aubrey Vickers.Mrs. Vickers was a member of the Willacoochee Holiness Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Lunell Davis of Haines City, Fla., Betty Jo Brigmond and Joyce Vickers, both of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Gene Vickers and Dwayne Vickers, both of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Virgil Myers of Willacoochee, Ga., Marvin Myers of Valdosta, Ga.; sister, Esther Myers of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the Sims Funeral Home Chapel, in Douglas, Ga., with Rev. David Rowe and Sister, Elaine Keene officiating.
Special musical selections were provided by Michelle Brown, Regina Stone and Janet Keene who sang, "Joyful Morning" and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" with Steven Keene, accompanying at the piano.
Internment followed in the Purvis Cemetery near Ambrose, Ga.
Pallbearers were: Randell Brigmond, Russell Brigmond, Wesley Vickers, Wade Vickers, Tony Brock, Aaron Vickers, Jason Brown and Dennis Pittman.

Kathy Anne Mosby
Ms. Kathy Anne Mosby, 54, of Cocoa, Fla., passed away Friday, August 27, 2004.
Ms. Mosby, a native of Douglas, Ga., was born April 9, 1952, the daughter of the late Dorothy G. Mosby and the late John M. Mosby, Sr. She became a member of Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church early in life. She began school at Carver High and Elementary School and completed her schooling at Georgia School for the Deaf, graduating in May 1972. She enjoyed bowling and Find-A-Word puzzles.
Survivors include: two brothers, John Mosby and wife, Dorothea, of Cocoa, Fla., and Blake McGowan and wife, Janice, of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Robin McGowan of Douglas, Ga., and Pocahantas Clark of Atlanta, Ga.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2004, at Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church, Douglas, Ga., with Rev. Sherman O. Childres officiating. Special music was provided by the Gaines Chapel choir and soloist Kema Self. Interment followed in the Upton Cemetery.

Helen Carol Jackson
Mrs. Helen Carol Jackson, 54, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004.
Mrs. Jackson, a native of Douglas, Ga., was born December 23, 1949, the daughter of the late Hubert Odoms, Sr., and the late Katie Edward Odoms. She was educated at Carver High and Elementary School and served on the Usher Board at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Willie F. Jackson of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Jimmy Odoms and wife, Brenda, of Newport News, Va., and Willie Jackson, Jr., and wife, Duan, of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Consuella L. Jackson of Douglas, Ga.; three grandchildren, Marquivas D. Jackson and Katerina M. Jackson, both of Douglas, Ga., and Jaymes A. Odoms of Newport News, Va.; mother-in-law, Mary Lee Jackson of Thomasville, Ga.; one brother, Hubert L. Odoms, Jr., and wife, Elsie, of Douglas, Ga.; three sisters, Gracie F. Mr. Hansel Turner, 69, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004, at home in Coffee County, Ga.
Mr. Turner, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born May 19, 1935, the son of Doris Ione Whitley Turner and the late Archie Daniel Turner. He was an Aviation Mechanic in the U.S. Navy, retiring after serving 28 years, and he attended the Salem New Congregation Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Gail Speer Turner of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Allen Turner and Robert Turner, both of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Linda Hawkins of Douglas, Ga., and Kim Sibley of Beaufort, S.C.; his mother, Doris Turner of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Duaney Turner of Douglas, Ga., and Rev. Troy Turner of Alma, Ga.; three sisters, Beth Edna Turner Taylor, Dorothy Mae Turner Story, and Mary Lois Turner Smith, all of Douglas, Ga.; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bill Corbitt, 68, of Macon, Ga., passed away Thursday, August 26, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Corbitt , a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born September 6, 1935, the son of the late Lester and Mattie Douglas Corbitt. He had made his home in Macon, Ga., for the past 34 years and was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Corbitt of Macon, Ga.; two daughters, Donna Corbitt and Susan Stahl and husband, Steve, all of St. Simons, Ga.; one son, Billy Corbitt of Macon, Ga.; one grandson, Colton Corbitt of Macon, Ga.; three sisters, Dot Little of Albany, Ga., and Betty Davis and Mattie Lou Smith, both of Pearson, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth Bell Hand Mullis
Mrs. Ruth Bell Hand Mullis, 97, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mrs. Mullis, a native of Jeff Davis County, Ga., was born July 24, 1907, the daughter of the late Willis Jasper and Missouri Ellis Hand. She had made her home in Coffee County for most of her adult life, was a homemaker, the widow of the late Joe Milton Mullis, and a member of Carver Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include: four daughters, Maureen Peterson and husband, Gene, and Myrtlene Whitworth and husband, Jack, all of Douglas Ga., Marion Buchingham of Brockport, N.Y., and JoAnne Mayher and husband, Billy, of Albany, Ga.; one son, Carroll Mullis and wife, April, of Andalusia, Ala.; two sisters, Mary Hall of Alma, Ga., and Ovella Hinely of Fitzgerald, Ga.; one brother, Wright Hand of Jacksonville, Fla.; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mullis was preceded in death by one son, Milton Mullis.
Funeral services were held at Carver Baptist Church at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2004, with Rev. Marty Carnes and Rev. Mike Peterson officiating. Soloist and great-granddaughter LeAnn Leagans sang "Medley of Hymns;" also, the congregation sang "Amazing Grace," with Patricia Anderson accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Satilla Gardens Cemetery, near Douglas, Ga.

Roy Eugene Pannell Anderson
Mr. Roy Eugene Pannell Anderson, 56, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Friday, August 20, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mr. Anderson, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born September 15, 1947, the son of the late Otis Hill and Nell Barrs Pannell. He was employed at the Georgia Department of Transportation until retirement and he was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Regina Anderson of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Thomas Anderson of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Marie Vickers of Douglas, Ga., and Gail Lorea of Kingsland, Ga.; one brother, Otis "Pete" Pannell of St. Augustine, Fla.; his foster mother, Lena Anderson, who reared him; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. Betty Brigmond, soloist/ pianist sang, "It Is Well With My Soul" and "God Walks The Dark Hills." Interment followed in the New Hope Church Cemetery, near Ambrose, Ga.

Willie L. 'Blue' Turner
Mr. Willie L. "Blue" Turner, 84, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Friday, August 13, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mr. Turner, a native of Dadeville, Ala., was born October 5, 1919, the son of the late Monroe and Belinda Turner.
Survivors include: his wife, Katherine Turner of Douglas, Ga.; six children, Willie Joe Turner and wife, Rose, of Denver, Colo., Tommie L. Turner and wife, Alice, of Hartford, Conn., Glenn Turner, Linda Brown and husband, Essco, and Verndlyn Brown and husband, Arthur, all of Douglas, Ga., and Paula Hudnall and husband, Eric, of Apopka, Fla.;17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by two children, James Douglas and Annie K. Vines.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga., with Rev. Frank Robinson officiating. Special music was provided by the Macedonia Baptist Church Choir, soloist Wallace Paulk, and soloist Sofia Graham. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, Ga.
