Patricia Ann Warren died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 in Ft. Pierce, Fla.
Her funeral was 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Forest Hill Baptist Church in Burke County, with the Revs. Sylvester Nabritt and Roy Gaines officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Ms. Warren was a native of Georgia. She was a nurse’s aid and a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Terry McCullen of Waynesboro; three daughters, Terrell McCullen of Waynesboro and Myesha Jackson and Yoyo Bates, both of Fort Pierce; and two brothers, Willie and Mae Rose Warren and Earl and Gloria Warren, both of Waynesboro; and her mother and step-father, Juanita W. Gordon and Robert Gordon, of Waynesboro.

William L. Edwards
William Louis Edwards of Waynesboro died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002 at Burke Medical Center. His funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Phinazee and Son Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Harry Coleman officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta. Mr. Edwards was a native of Courtland, Va. He had retired as a bus driver for New Jersey Transit. Survivors include his widow, Ellen Edwards; three sons, William Edwards Jr., Michael Edwards and Ronell Mitchell, all of New Jersey; six daughters, Mary Edwards of New Jersey, Sheryl Wilson of North Carolina and Valerie Lovett, Lacrecha Mitchell, Robbi Freeman and Monica Gilchrist, all of Georgia; two brothers, Alton Edwards and Dwight Edwards, both of New Jersey; three sisters, Odel Harrison, Teresa Stith and Sandra Newman, all of New Jersey; and a host of grandchildren.
Minnie Lee Ward
Minnie Lee Ward of Waynesboro died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta. Her funeral was 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Givens Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Isiah Kirkland officiating. Burial was in Jones Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Ward, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Givens Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons, Johnny L. and Maxine Ward and John E. and Anna Ward, both of Augusta, Aaron and Lavern Ward of Millen, Jerry L. and Johanne Ward and Vince E. Ward, both of Waynesboro, and Bernard and Tangelena Ward of Roanoke, Va.; two daughters, Minnie L. Bradley and Ida L. and Josh Ward, both of Waynesboro; and 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Kendrick P. Bradley, Kenneth L. Bradley, Mitchell L. Lambert, Charlie Bradley III, La Troy D. Ward and Mike A. Lambert.
Lamar F. Cooley
Lamar F. “Doc” Cooley, 76, of Waynesboro died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002 at his residence. His funeral was 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, with Dr. David Carter and the Rev. Henry Erwin officiating. The private burial was at Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. Cooley was born in Richmond County, but was a lifelong resident of Waynesboro and Burke County. He was a registered pharmacist and co-owner of Burke Drug Company in Waynesboro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II as an infantryman and was very active in the American Legion Post 120 of Waynesboro. He was a former member of the Waynesboro Exchange Club and served on the Waynesboro Hospital Authority. He loved to play golf and hunt and was an exceptionally bad poker player and a standing member of the BI-LO Coffee Club. He was a member of the Brinson Coleman Bible Class and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynes-boro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Cooley, in 1993. Survivors include his widow, Betty Cooley of Waynesboro; a son, Jody and his wife, Lora Cooley, of Gainesville; two daughters, Kim and her husband, Gregg Bunn, of Waynesboro and Kay and her husband, Max Knight, of Martinez; a brother, Joe D. Cooley Jr. of Waynes-boro; and nine grandchildren, Ali, Amy, Emily Anne, Andy, Lila Kate, Abby, Molly, Jake and Sam. Pallbearers were Brian Murray, Stephen Murray, Tommy Mitchell, Joe Daniel, Clifford Lewis, David Smith, Tommy Banks, Henry Hopkins III and Dr. Walter Voyles. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Brinson Coleman Bible Class and the BI-LO Coffee Club. Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
Raymond James
Raymond “Little Ray” James, 22, of Hephzibah died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002 of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Jefferson County.
His funeral was 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at the DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah Chapel, with the Rev. Marion Jay officiating. Mr. James, a native of Richmond County, was a lifelong resident of Hephzibah. He was a graduate of Hephzibah High School and a member of the Big K. Hunting Club in Summer-town. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and had played recreation baseball and softball and had coached little league. He was employed by Mark Mims Landclearing of Hephzibah. He was a Baptist and member of the Miracle Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Austin Bo James of Columbia County; two sisters, Cassandra Ann James and Jennifer Lynn James, both of Hephzibah; a brother, Timothy Shawn James of Hephzibah; his parents, Raymond and Evelyn James of Hephzibah; maternal grandparents, Joyce and John Kitchens and paternal grandparents, Bo and Shirley James, all of Hephzibah; and paternal great-grandfather, H.V. Weathers of Augusta. Pallbearers were Daniel Nicoles, Lester King, Bill Shiver, Tim James, Brad Harmen, John Thomas Kitchens, Ruben Spively, Dusty Heitz and Chris Dore.
Blanche L. Aaron
Blanche Lewis Aaron, 82, of Waynesboro died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro, with the Rev. William Turner officiating.
Mrs. Aaron, a native of Jenkins County, had lived most of her life in Burke County. She was a homemaker and a member of Greenfork Baptist Church in Perkins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Aaron, and her son, Harlow Dickey. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Richard O’Quinn, George Jones, Walton “Bud” North, Richard Chambers, Derrick Lewis and Tom Jones. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at DeLoach Funeral Home, Inc., 842 Liberty St., Waynesboro, Ga.
Savella F. Hall
Savella F. Hall, 95, of Waynes-boro died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Burke Medical Center. Her funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at West-minster Presbyterian, Church, Waynesboro, with Pastor Richard Holland officiating. Burial will be in Pines Cemetery. Mrs. Hall grew up in Burke County and became a teacher at Rowland Grove. She was a former member of Second Antioch Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She later lived in Philadelphia for many years where she retired as a licensed practical nurse. Upon returning to Burke County, she became a member of West-minster Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. Survivors include five daughters, Lula Hall of Trevose, Pa., Sue Hall of Opelika, Ala., Anna Jo (Hewitt) Powell of Harlem, Peggie (Albert) Bizzell of Philadelphia and Esther Moore of Waynesboro; a son, James Hall of Waynesboro; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Hortense W. Hollins
Hortense Walters Hollins of Augusta, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.
Her funeral was 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, with the Revs. Don Clark and Dan McFarland officiating. Burial was private.
Mrs. Hollins was a lifelong member of Mize Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Bayvale homemakers. She taught the Mize-Walters Sunday School Class for many years. She retired as owner of Whitton Radiators.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Louise Walters, and her sister, Marianna Walters Cook. Survivors include her widower, C.A. “Bodie” Hollins; three sons and their wives, John R. “Johnny” and Neva Hollins, Charles E. “Gene” and Peggy Ann Hollins and Dales A. and Thomasena Hollins, all of Augusta; five grandchildren, Gene Thomas Hollins, Jess Hollins, Melissa Hollins and Dalton Hollins, all of Augusta, and Genevieve “Genny” King of Grovetown; and two great-granddaughters, Kelsey Hollins and Jessica Hollins. Emmie Louise Waters
Emmie Louise Waters, 94, of Rebecca died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at Ashburn Health Care after a lengthy illness.
Her funeral was 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Rebecca United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Emory Corbett and Guy Mathis officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Waters was a native of Atlanta. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Rebecca United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Rebecca United Methodist Women’s Group and the Lillian Gilmore Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim W. and Mary Ann Fry Haynie; her husband, Thomas McArthur Waters; and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Perry. Survivors include two sons, T.M. Waters Jr. and Hal F. Waters, both of Rebecca; a brother, James W. Haynie of Cordele; a sister, Margie Cape of Cordele; and eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Waters, Donnie Gibbs, Chuck Perry, Mark Waters, Tim Holcombe and Burly Page.
Perry W. Jenkins Jr.
Perry Walton “P.W.” Jenkins Jr., 68, of Sardis died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Graveside services were 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Jenkins Family Cemetery in Sardis, with the Revs. Roy Cates and Yonce Lively officiating. Mr. Jenkins, a native and lifelong resident of Burke County, was a carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Sallie Jenkins and two daughters, Melody and Diane Jenkins.
Survivors include his widow, Mattie Sanders Jenkins of Sardis; two sons, David Jenkins of Perkins and Perry Jenkins of Girard; a brother, Ronald Jen-kins of Sardis; a sister, Loretta J. Cates of Tignal; a stepdaughter, Kathy Waters of Twin City; a stepson, Ernest Johnson of Sardis; and a grandson, four step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Henry C. Reddick, Harry T. Jenkins Jr., Bobby C. Jenkins Jr., Jimmy W. Jenkins, Dickie S. Jenkins and Chris Parrish.
Juanita Hopkins
Juanita Hopkins of Girard died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta. Her funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Marian Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sullivan Bush officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Ms. Hopkins was a native of Burke County and a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Matthew Hopkins of Girard and Marren and Jeanette Hopkins of Sylvania; four daughters, Angela and Calvin Roberts and Yolinda Hopkins, both of Girard and Stephanie Hopkins and Jacqueline Hopkins, both of Waynesboro; three brothers, Donald and Annie Hopkins Sr. and Ronnie Hopkins, both of Girard and Willie Walker of Augusta; two sisters, Viola and Vernon Cryer of Girard and Joanna and Thaddeus Scurry of Sylvania; her mother, Eula Hopkins of Girard; and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Williams, Herman Roberts, Bernard Roberts, Jerry Williams, Gene Williams and Junior Roberts.
Julia Yette Walker
Julia Yette Walker of Hephzibah died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002 at University Hospital in Augusta. Her funeral was 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Antioch Rock Creek Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Bush officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Walker, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of William Grove Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Survivors include a son, Johnny and Margaret Holmes of Hephzibah; a daughter, Emma and George Adams of Waynes-boro; a brother, Essaw Kelly of Waynesboro; and five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Richard Jones, Clinton Kelly, Ernest Kelly, Lafayette Kelly, Neely Jones and Jimmy Jones.
