Mrs. Lois Adamson, 83, of Irwinville, Ga., passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Mrs. Adamson, a native of Douglas, Ga., was born November 14, 1920, the daughter of the late James Newton and Mamie Lott Sowell. She was the widow of the late Lewis Charles Adamson, a homemaker, and of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include: five children, Carole Groover and husband, Ray, of Dacula, Ga., Charles Adamson and wife, Scotta, of Clarkston, Ga., Connie Phillips of Rebecca, Ga., Steve Adamson and wife, Deborah, of Locust Grove, Ga., and Shawn and Jimmy Howell of Fitzgerald, Ga.; five brothers, James Sowell, Jr. and William "Bill" Sowell, both of Fitzgerald, Ga., Homer Sowell of Jacksonville, Fla., Bob Sowell of Albany, Ga., and Arthur Sowell of Carlsbad, CA; one sister, Mamie Ruth Ellington of Fitzgerald, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Saturday, August 14, 2004, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with Jimmy Howell officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Beady S. Stone
Mrs. Beady S. Stone, 83, of Pearson, Ga., passed away Friday, August, 13, 2004, at Jeff Davis Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mrs. Stone, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born September 2, 1920, the daughter of Leon and Lonnie Weldon Stone. She was the widow of the late Lemar Stone, a homemaker, and a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Johnson Stone of Hazlehurst, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 15, 2004, at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Ed Gilliard officiating. Special musical selections, "Amazing Grace" and "When I Traveled My Last Mile," were rendered by the Mt. Pleasant Church Choir, with Brett Daniels accompanying at the piano. Also, pianist Brett Daniels provided soft music for the prelude and postlude. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Fannie Mae Carver Jowers
Mrs. Fannie Mae Carver Jowers, 90, of Ambrose, Ga., passed away Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Jowers, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born November 2, 1913, the daughter of the late Jesse and Suzanna Pridgen Carver. She was a homemaker, the widow of the late Mack Jowers, and a member of Bethany Holiness-Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Dr. Jonathan Ronald Jowers of North Augusta, S.C.; two daughters, Delaine Johnson and Maxell Jowers, both of Ambrose, Ga.; one sister, Bura Jowers of Douglas, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Anthony Jowers of Grovetown, Ga., Kirk Jowers of North Augusta, S.C., C.V. Tanner of Jacksonville, Fla., Michelle Daniels of Columbia, S.C., Mike Rogers, Jacquelyn Vickers, and Danielle McCranie, all of Douglas, Ga., and Jill Starling, Jason Starling, and Chris Culpepper, all of Ambrose, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jowers was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Sue Jowers Tanner.
Funeral services were held at Bethany Holiness Baptist Church, near Ambrose, Ga., at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 1, 2004, with Rev. Jimmie Sayer and Rev. Kenneth Mathews officiating. Farrell Harper and Marc Harper sang "He'll Hold To My Hand;" also the congregation sang "Amazing Grace," with Marc Harper accompanying at the piano.
At the graveside services, soloist Esta Kay Chapman sang "It Is Well With My Soul" accapella. Interment followed in Bethany Church Cemetery.

Morris Cribb, Jr.
Mr. Morris Cribb, Jr., of Nicholls, Ga., passed away Friday, July 30, 2004, at Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Cribb, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born January 17, 1943, the son of the late Morris, Sr. and Bessie Susan Christian Cribb. He was a farmer, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Jo Anne Floyd Cribb of Nicholls, Ga.; three sisters, Earnie Dean Youngblood of Nicholls, Ga., and Juanita Clements and Edna Earle Joyner, both of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Cribb was preceded in death by four brothers, David Thomas, Aldean Thomas, Monroe Thomas, and R.G. Thomas.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 2, 2004, at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home, with Rev. Donnie Kirkland officiating. Soloist Liz Kirkland sang "Amazing Grace" and "Sailing Toward Home," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Susie Mae Bernard
Susie Mae Bernard, 75, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away August 3, 2004.
Mrs. Bernard, a native of Crisp County, Ga., was born May 21, 1929, the daughter of the late Arron Hamilton and Florence Hamilton. She was the widow of the late Joseph Bernard and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla.
Survivors include: one brother, Joseph T. Hamilton of Jacksonville, Fla; one aunt, Thelma London of Douglas, Ga.; one cousin Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Felton of Jacksonville, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bernard was preceded in death by one brother, Henry B. Hamilton.
Funeral services were held at Harrell's Chapel in Douglas, Ga., on August 7, 2004, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Amos Lee officiating. Interment followed at the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, Ga.

Jimmie L. Smith
Mrs. Jimmie L. Smith, 75, of Pearson, Ga., passed away Friday, August 6, 2004, at her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Tampa, Fla., was born June 9, 1929, the daughter of the late James Marion and Eula Dubberly Stanford. She was the widow of the late Thomas I. Smith, and had worked as the librarian at the Public Library in Pearson for the past 15 years and had also been a substitute teacher in the Atkinson County School System.
Survivors include: two daughters, Marian Smith of Pearson, Ga., and Mary Sizemore and husband, Gene, of Pearson, Ga.; one brother, Joseph M. (Sonny) Stanford of Pearson, Ga.; three sisters, Margie Stanfill and Jeanette Camalo, both of Tampa, Fla., and Elaine Puckett of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Florence Lastinger of Douglas, Ga.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by one son, Thomas McCall Smith, and one sister, Eula Mae Starling.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga., with Rev. Chris Carpenter officiating. Special music included "Amazing Grace" and "Victory In Jesus" presented by the attending congregation, with Mary Ann Williams accompanying at the piano and Candace Brown accompanying at the organ. Mary Ann Williams, pianist, and Candace Brown, organist, also provided soft music for the prelude and the postlude. Interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery.

Mr. Richard Hester, 40, passed away Monday, August 20, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mr. Hester, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born January 1, 1964, the son of the late Buster Hester. He was a restaurant worker.
Survivors include: one son, Mathew Cory Godfrey of Douglas, Ga.; his mother, Lera Deen and stepfather, Adrian Deen, of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Martha Anderson of Nicholls, Ga., and Patricia Arnold of Broxton, Ga.; four brothers, Johnny Hester, Jimmy Hester, Billy Hester, and Bobby Hester, all of Douglas, Ga.; two stepsisters, Vickie Deen and Deborah Davis, both of Douglas, Ga.; one stepbrother, Dewayne Deen of Douglas, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hester was preceded in death by one brother, Freeman Hester.
Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 5, 2004, at the Anderson Family Cemetery, near Nicholls, Ga., with Rev. Johnny Smith officiating. A taped selection of "Amazing Grace" was provided at the graveside.

Jackie Kight
Mrs. Jackie Kight, 81, of Jesup, Ga., passed away Thursday, August 5, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Kight, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie Oscar Highsmith, Sr., and moved to Jesup in 1968. She was the widow of the late J.H. Kight, had retired from the Wayne Memorial Hospital, was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and the Puckett-McDonald Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: one daughter, Kathy Susan Kight of Savannah, Ga.; one son, Robert Reynolds, Sr., and wife, Gail, of Broxton, Ga.; two brothers, Carl Preston Highsmith and wife, Mavis, of Jesup, Ga., and John Roy Highsmith and wife, Mariann, of Douglas, Ga.; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kight was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie O. Highsmith, Jr., and J.L. Highsmith, one sister, Mary Emma Hickson, and one grandchild, Travis Christopher Reynolds.

Evelyn Johnson, 68, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Ellabelle, Ga., was born September 11, 1935, the daughter of the late Luchious and Minnie Johnson. "China" as her family and friends affectionately knew her, began her Christian path at Saint Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served as an usher under the leadership of Elder C. Demps. She later joined Pine Street Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Betty Johnson. She worked at the Coffee County Training Center, South Georgia College, and Home Day Care Services.
Survivors include: one special friend, Clyde Sparkman of Douglas, Ga.; three daughters, Debra Hamilton, Rosetta Shields and husband, Wayne, and Gwendolyn Johnson, all of Douglas, Ga.; five sons, Jerome Johnson and wife, Janice, of Brunswick, Ga., and Alonzo Johnson and wife, Teresa, Lorenzo Johnson and wife, Tonjaneka, Kenneth Johnson and wife, Japonica, and Frankie Johnson and wife, Monique, all of Douglas, Ga.; six children, Marcella McDonald, Faye Sparkman, Linda Grady, Clinton Sparkman, Angela Johnson, Lisa Mizell, and Sylvia Sparkman; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one God-son, Rodney Ford; a special God-sister, Shirley Porter; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Ms. Betty Jean Nunn, 57, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004.
Ms. Nunn was born March 3, 1947, the daughter of the late Emmanuel Nunn and Beatrice Hayes. She was a member of Chapman Temple Holiness Church in Nicholls, Ga.
Survivors include: two children, Laron Michael Pruitts of Nicholls, Ga., and Johnny Martin of Douglas, Ga.; her mother, Beatrice Thames of Tifton, Ga.; two sisters, Katherine Burch of Douglas, Ga., and Margie Whitfield and husband, Spencer, of Newton, Miss. ; two brothers, Emmanuel Nunn and Kenneth Ray Thames, both of Nicholls, Ga.; a very good and devoted friend, Julia Faye De'Shazor; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held August 8, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Harrell's Chapel in Douglas, Ga., with Rev. Andrew De'Shazor officiating. Special singing was provided by soloist Martha Baity. Interment followed at the Nicholls City Cemetery in Nicholls, Ga.

Ms. Mary Marie Jowers Holland, 85, of Ambrose, Ga., passed away Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home in Ocilla, Ga., following an extended illness.
Ms. Holland, a native of Irwin County, Ga., was born April 25, 1919, the daughter of the late Pleasant Leon, Sr. and Amanda Lane Jowers. She was the widow of the late W. S. Holland, a former City Clerk for Ambrose, Ga., a member of the Eastern Star, and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Ambrose, Ga., where she served as treasurer and was a member of the church choir.
Survivors include: one brother, P.L. "Buddy" Jowers of Wray, Ga.; one sister, Evelyn Jowers Chauncey of Baxley, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Holland was preceded in death by one brother, Marcus Jowers.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2004, at New Hope Baptist Church in Ambrose, Ga., with Rev. Ernest Harper officiating. Soloist Susan Harper sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace," with Dorothy McDermitt accompanying at the piano and providing soft music for the prelude and postlude. Interment followed in the Smith Cemetery near Wray, Ga.

Mrs. Thomas, a native of Ware County, Ga., was born January 12, 1948, the daughter of the late Linnie and Cora Lee Nasworth Gattis. She was a retired secretary and a member of Salem Congregation Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mamie Douglas Waters, 81, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away Friday, August 6, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mrs. Waters, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born October 3, 1922, the daughter of the late Clifton and Winnie Taylor Douglas. She was the widow of the late Ira Waters, a retired seamstress, and a member of Nicholls Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jurelle Ross of Callahan, Fla.; one son, Franklin Waters of LaGrange, Ga.; six grandchildren, Karen Green of Callahan, Fla., Dana Waters of Atlanta, Ga.; Kellie Hardee of Jacksonville, Fla., Keith Ross of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Chad Waters and Colby Waters, both of McKinleyville, Calif; and four great-grandchildren.
