Lonnie Street, Sr.
Mr. Lonnie Street, Sr., 81, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004.
Mr. Street, a native of Douglas, Ga., was born April 16, 1923, the son of the late Jim and Rebecca Jackson Street. He was the widower of the late Ruby F. Nelson and the late Rosalie Tucker Street, a member of Young's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the Usher Board and of the Douglas Masonic Lodge, and was employed by the City of Douglas for 50 years.
Survivors include: one son, Lonnie Street, Jr., and wife, Rosemary, of Douglas, Ga.; six daughters, Vera Boleyn and husband, Joe, of Dover, Del., and Faye Carol Street, Sylvia Williams and husband, Henry, Francine Solomon, Linda Mobile, and Melissa Williams, all of Douglas, Ga.; four sisters, Lula Mae Alfred of Farrockaway, N.Y., Geneva Tyson of Pompano Beach, Fla., Juanita Jones of Teaneck, N.J., and Mouvine S. Davis of Douglas, Ga.; a special son, Frank Simmons and wife, Belinda, of Douglas, Ga.; eight step-children, 16 grandchildren, and several great-grands, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Street was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Street, and one step-son.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, 2004, at Young's Chapel Baptist Church, with Elder Robert A. Tucker, Sr., officiating. The Young's Chapel Choir and soloist Willie Davis provided music. Interment followed at the Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Tyrone Reed, Tony Street, Rodriquez Carter, Cal McClelland, Henry Williams, and Charlie Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Royal, Gerald Guthrie, Donald Carver, Johnny Lee Roper, Eddie B. Williams, and Dewey Wells.

Willie Lee Jackson, Jr.
Mr. Willie Lee Jackson, Jr., 66, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004.
Mr. Jackson was born October 26, 1937 in Irwin County, Ga. He was the son of the late Willie Lee Jackson, Sr., and the late Ruth C. Jackson. Mr. Jackson was employed with the Coffee County Board of Education and was a member of St. John Baptist Church.
Survivors include: wife, Everlena Jackson; three sons and one daughter, Joseph (Estelle) Jackson, Johnny (Veronica) Jackson, John Willie Jackson and Sheila Jackson, all of Douglas, Ga.; three step-children, Adolph (Sandra) Paulk of Douglas, Ga., Cassandra Moore of Jacksonville, Fla., and Fredrick (Jackie) of Richmond, N.C.; 10 brothers, Archie Thomas of Miami, Fla., Roosevelt (Doris) Jackson, Ezekiel (Erma) Jackson, George (Genalder) Jackson, Horace (Dorothy) Jackson, Rev. William (Betty) Jackson, Frank (Vivian) Jackson, Charlie (Margaret) Jackson, Johnny (Glenda) Jackson, Lee Martin (Darline) Jackson and Arthur (Annette) Jackson; three sisters, Viola (Charles) McDuffie of Miami, Fla., Ida Jackson and Rosa Lee (Charlie) Wilcox, both of Douglas, Ga.; six aunts, Essie Lee Martin of Douglas, Ga.; Ida Lee Paulk of Ocilla, Ga., Bessie Mae Graham of Detroit, Mich., Myrtice Jackson of Ocilla, Ga., Inez Brown of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mary Lee Reed of Lakeland, Fla.; two uncles, Leroy (Mamie) Jackson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and James Johnson of Elmira, N.Y.; five brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, 24 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 11 a.m., at St. John Baptist Church in Wray, Ga., with Rev. Herbert Coney officiating. Special music was provided by combined choirs and soloists, Rev. Troy Jackson, and Rev. Tommy Jordan.
Active pallbearers were: Nathaniel Smith, John Clark, John Lee Eady, James Sirmans, Alfred Harrison, Wayne Peterson, Ben Munford, Anthony Davis.

Annie Harper
Mrs. Annie Harper, 92, of Ambrose, Ga., passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Harper, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born February 15, 1912, the daughter of the late Dave and Drucilla Merritt Harper. She was a homemaker, the widow of the late Joe Brown Harper, and a member of Wray Holiness Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, George Harper and wife, Evelyn, of Ambrose, Ga.; two daughters, Jimmie S. Denton and husband, Mose, of Douglas, Ga., and Jo Ann Spivey and husband, Carroll; seven sisters, Doll Caves of Broxton, Ga., Dorothy Sayer of Ambrose, Ga., D. I. Paulk and Sweetie Carver, both of Wray Ga., and Frankie Kirkland, Mary Lee Wheeler, and Davene Harper, all of Warner Robins, Ga.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-Grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by one grandchild and two sisters, Gertie Paulk and Ava Harper.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Wray Holiness Baptist Church, with Rev. Farrell Harper, Rev. Scott Smith, and Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. Rick Griswald and Patsy and Larry Spivey sang "You're Not Crying Anymore" and "This Robe Was Made For Me," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano and Rick Griswald accompanying on the guitar. Interment followed in the Wray Church Cemetery.

Mary Frances Wilkes (King) Halder
Mrs. Mary Frances Wilkes (King) Halder, 86, passed away on July 18, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Halder, born in Tennessee on January 16, 1918; moved with her family to Miami, Fla., when she was a small child. She married the late Rev. Gordon C. King and they served churches in the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1938 until his death in 1959. From that union was born two daughters. During the 1970's, Mrs. Halder worked as a nurse at Coffee Regional Hospital until she remarried and moved to Lady Lake, Fla., where she lived until 1998, when she became a resident of Shady Acres Nursing Home in Douglas, Ga.
During her life time, Mrs. Halder was a member of United Methodist Women, Douglas First United Methodist Church, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include two daughters, Marlene King Richards of Douglas, Ga., and Neva King Thompson of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren Dianne Bush Waldron of Douglas, Ga., and Clarence Gordon Bush of Kennesaw, Ga.; one brother, John C. Wilkes of Miami, Fla.; three great-granddaughters, Leslie Ann Ricketson, Rebecca Waldron Sumner, and Mary Katherine Waldron, all of Douglas, Ga.; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews of Florida and Colorado.
Mrs. Halder was cremated and her ashes will be buried with Rev. King in Benevolence, Ga., after a memorial service, which will be announced at a later date.

Pearlie Little Cothren
Mrs. Pearlie Little Cothren, 86, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mrs. Cothren, a native of Ware County, Ga., was born November 15, 1917, the daughter of the late John Lee and Dora Elizabeth Boree Little. She was a homemaker, the widow of the late Aaron Edward Cothren, and a member of Oak Grove Holiness Baptist Church in Ware County, Ga.
Survivors include: one son, Aaron "Buddy" Cothren, Jr., of Douglas Ga.; four daughters, Christine Whitley and husband, Paul, of Nicholls, Ga., Lucille Crosby and husband, Saulter, and Mattie Lee Wright and husband, Rev. Winston, all of Axson, Ga., and Betty Edenfield and husband, Johnny, of Hilliard, Fla.; one sister, Sallie L. Spivey of Douglas, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Vining of Douglas, Ga.; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Oak Grove Holiness Baptist Church in Ware County, Ga., with Rev. Joe Vaughn and Rev. Mack Carter officiating. Soloist Darwin Lee sang "The Last Mountain I'll Ever Have To Climb." Also, Brandon, Vanese, and Bonnie Musgrove sang "Far Away" and "I'll Be Waiting At The River For You," with Bonnie Musgrove accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Lonnie Whitley, Mark Walker, Mike Vining, Randolph Cady, Shelton Williams, and Raymond Musgrove.

William Archer 'Bill' Barden
Mr. William Archer "Bill" Barden, 69, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004, in Valdosta, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mr. Barden, a native of Amelia County, Va., was born February 26, 1935, the son of the late Richard Archer and Mildred Lee Ranson Barden. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era, an auto mechanic, and the widower of the late Barbara Jean Fussell Barden.
Survivors include: one son, William L. Barden of Ray City, Ga.; one grandson, Reese J. Madison of Marietta, Ga.; three sisters, Frances Beales, Barbara Ann Barden, and Nancy Combs, all of Richmond, Va.; five brothers, Richard L. Barden, Charles E. Barden, Robert J. Barden, Thomas Raymond Barden, and Roy S. Barden, all of Richmond, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Jackie Fussell of Broxton, Ga., and George Fussell of Dalton, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Janice F. Lewis of Douglas, Ga.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Deberry Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Dean and Rev. John Clough officiating. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace," with Peggy Ott accompanying at the piano. Interment followed at the Deberry Church Cemetery with military graveside services by the personnel of Moody Air Force Base.

Onice Make Tanner
Mr. Onice Make Tanner, 83, of Valdosta, Ga., passed away Monday, July 26, 2004, in the Holly Hill Nursing Home in Lowndes County, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mr. Tanner, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born October 15, 1920, the son of the late Malcolm "Make" and Ola Brown Tanner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Coast Guard, having served during World War II. He was a former employee of the Abbot Laboratories as a master craftsman, maintaining and repairing their offices and research facilities.
Survivors include: one half-brother, David Grantham of Fitzgerald, Ga., and several cousins.
Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Douglas City Cemetery, with Rev. John Jacobs officiating.
Active pallbearers were Lee Pittman, Jessie Tanner, John Tanner, David Tanner, Ricky Carter, and Rodney Carter.

Joseph Riley "Joey" Spires
Mr. Joseph Riley "Joey" Spires, 39, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004, in Macon, Ga.
Mr. Spires, a native of Macon County, Ga., had lived most of his life in Macon, Ga. He was a commercial electrician and a member of Wheeler Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two children, Kayla Rene/ Spires of Macon, Ga., and George Loren Spires of Dothan, Ala.; his parents Emilye Jo and Larry Spires, Sr., of Macon, Ga.; two brothers, Larry Spires, Jr., of Macon, Ga., and Randy Spires of Jeffersonville, Ga.; his grandmother, Addie Spires of Douglas, Ga.; his fianc/e, Cathi Pressley of Macon, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Deberry Baptist Church, near Broxton, Ga., with Rev. Donald Burke and Rev. Julian Strom officiating. Soloist June Sayer Merritt sang "Far Away Is A Place" and "Amazing Grace." Also, Joel Sayer sang "I Can Only Imagine," with Janice Young accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Deberry Church Cemetery.

Nettie Ailene Brussell Buchanan
Mrs. Nettie Ailene Brussell Buchanan, 98, of St. Marys, Ga., passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the Saint Mary Convalescent Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Buchanan, a native of Davidson County, Tenn., was born May 13, 1906, the daughter of the late Charles and Beatrice Stokes Brussell. She was a homemaker, the widow of the late Claude Warren Buchanan, and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors: two daughters, Helen Cox and husband, John, of Kingsland, Ga., and Lillie Mae Beecher of Wray, Ga.; two sons, C.W. Buchanan, Jr., and wife, Betty, of Ambrose Ga., and Paul Buchanan of Live Oak, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by one son, Charles Buchanan.
Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in the Bethany Church Cemetery in Coffee County, Ga., with Rev. Lester Wilhelm officiating.

Mr. Wilbert Lee McDonald, 64, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.
Mr. McDonald was born April 5, 1940, the son of Walter McDonald and Mozell Carswell McDonald. He attended George Washington Carver Elementary and High School and was employed with Douglas Asphalt Company.
Survivors include: wife, Louise Yvonne Dennis McDonald of Douglas, Ga.; daughter, Valerie B. Mohoney of Killeen, Tx.; son, Bruce Z. (Debra) McDonald of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren, Bruce Z. Ward of Columbus, Oh., Tamika Dennis, Quanisha and Kinetta Mohoney of Killeen, Tx.; two aunts, Hester Buchan and McLetha (Frank) Matthews, both of Douglas, Ga.; five brothers, Wesley (Annie Mae) McDonald of Miami, Fla., Artha (Mary Louise) McDonald of Douglas, Ga., Laymon (Vickie) McDonald of Milwaukee, Wis., Johnny (Phyllis) McDonald of Douglas, Ga., and Ronnie (Marylin) McDonald of Augusta, Ga.; four sisters, Mae Vern Anderson of Waycross, Ga., Barbara A. McDonald of Miami, Fla., Mable Allen, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Betty Holsey of Alabama; son and daughter -in-law, Melvin and Loretta Hodges of Douglas, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Mary C (Ray) Louder, Loretha D. (Robert) Smith, both of Douglas, Ga., and Geraldine Wilcox of Inkster, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Herman Dennis, Jr., and Alvin Dennis of New Brunswick, N.J., several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 30, 2004, at 2 p..m., at Hightower Memorial Temple in Douglas, Ga., with Elder Randolph D. Scott officiating. Special musical selections were rendered by the choir, along with solos by Trina Goolsby, Tamika Goolsby, and Clarence Wilcox, III.
Active pallbearers were nephews. Honorary pallbearers were Douglas Asphalt, Deacons and Brethern of Hightower Memorial Temple.
Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, Ga.

Glenn Davis Harrison
Mr. Glenn Davis Harrison, 73, of Alma, Ga., passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 7, 2004, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mr. Harrison, a native of Bacon County, was the son of the late Stephen and Eunice Harrison. He had live many years in St. Mary's, Ga., before moving back to Bacon County in 1974. Mr. Harrison was a retired supervisor with Gilman Paper Co. in St. Mary's and was also a farmer in the Coffee community of Bacon County. He attended several churches in Bacon and Camden counties and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Jessie P. Harrison of Alma, Ga.; two sons, Terry Harrison and Tony Harrison and wife, Dawn, all of Alma, Ga.; three grandchildren, Kevin, Hope, and Stephen Harrison, all of Alma, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Harrison.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2004, at the Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Blackshear, Ga. Burial followed in Friendship Methodist Church Cemetery in Bacon County.

Mrs. Mary H. Shannon Strickland, 80, of Boston, Ga., passed away Friday, July 9, 2004, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Strickland, a native of Bacon County, Ga., was born August 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Stephen Buford and Hattie Mae Thompson Strickland. She was a graduate of South Georgia College, Douglas, Ga., a homemaker, former teacher, the widow of the late Glenn Max Strickland, and a member of Boston United Methodist Church where she had served as church treasurer.
Survivors include: three daughters, Linda Rollins and husband, James Allen, of Ochlocknee, Ga., Carol West and husband, Doyle, Sr., of Meigs, Ga., and Anne Barnes Wahl and husband, Earnest, Jr., of Thomasville, Ga.; three sons, Glenn M. Strickland, Jr., and wife, Teresa Bentley, of King George, Va., Timothy Shannon Strickland and wife, Marli Clark, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mark A. Strickland of Boston, Ga.; two sisters, Lucy S. Rigdon and husband, Premysel, of Alma, Ga., and Gladys S. Douglas and husband, Hubert; 14 grandchildren, Matthew Strickland, Hannah Strickland, Bryon Strickland, Todd Strickland, Melissa B. Clanton, Frank A. Barnes, Rachel B. Brinson, Laura B. Phillips, Karen W. Willis, Lisa W. Slaughter, Deanna W. Singletary, Doyle E. West, Jr., James R. Rollins, and Lori R. Philbin; 20 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by one brother, William Buford Shannon, and a great-grandson, Tristan Singletary.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m, Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Boston United Methodist Church, with Rev. Scott Cook officiating. Interment followed in the Boston Cemetery.

Ivey Winifred "Fred" Hurst, 61, of Broxton, Ga., passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Hurst a native of Thomas County, Ga., was born July 9, 1942, son of the late Ambres Lee and Beaulah Mae Scarborough Hurst. He was a US Army Veteran of the Viet Nam Era and a retired USDA Meat Inspector.
Survivors include: Patsy Mancil Hurst of Broxton, Ga.; son, Ivey "Freddie" Hurst, Jr. and wife, Shelly of Broxton, Ga.; daughter, Kim Benton and husband, Larry of Mora, Ga.; five brothers, O. L. Hurst of Winter Haven, Fla., F. L. Hurst of Cairo, Ga., A. W. Hurst of Camilla, Ga., Mayo Hurst of Saint Joe, and AR, Larry Hurst of Pelham, Ga.; four sisters, Verdie Hughes of Thomasville, Ga., Dean Faircloth of Camilla, Ga., Hilda Johnson of Iron City, Ga., and Martha Neeld of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Ashlyn Benton, Kaleigh Hurst, Zane Benton and Ivey Hurst, III.

Soloist, Alana Starnes sang, "Further Along" and soloist, Glenda Courson sang, "Stroll Over Heaven" with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. Internment followed in the Royals Cemetery in Atkinson County, Ga.
