Johnny Calvin Taylor, Jr.
Mr. Johnny Calvin Taylor, Jr., 63, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mr. Taylor, a Clay County, Fla., native, had lived in Jacksonville, Fla., before moving to Douglas, Ga., about seven months ago. He was a member of New Life Christian Worship Center in Douglas, Ga., was a maintenance worker at a golf course, and loved to golf.
Survivors include: four daughters, Sherry Grantham, Brenda Taylor, Lori White, and Patricia Grimes, all of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Louise Gulden of Middleburg, Fla.; one brother, Lewis Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 12 , 2004, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Fraser Funeral Home, with Rev. Victor Gilbert officiating.

Vera Sapp Courson
Mrs. Vera Sapp Courson, 80, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Courson, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born August 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Tom and Sarah Cato Sapp. She was the widow of the late Woodrow Courson and a member of Southview Church of God.
Survivors include: four daughters, Jean Clemons and husband, Albert, Barbara McQuaig, and Linda Graham, all of Douglas, Ga., and Margie McGee and husband, Bobby, of Power Springs, Ga.; three sons, Monroe Courson and wife, Beth, and Woodrow Douglas Courson, all of Greenville, S.C., and Tom Courson and wife, Debra, of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Martha Ann Stokes of Douglas, Ga.; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Courson was preceded in death by one son, Mark Courson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 12, 2004, at Southview Church of God, with Rev. Hilton Martin officiating. Scott and Joyce Roberts sang "Where Can I Go, But To The Lord," with Scott Roberts accompanying at the piano. Also, The Harrell Family sang "Sweet Rest Will Come" and "My Mama's Prayer." Interment followed in the Lone Hill Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kyle Courson, Logan Courson, Lewis Clemons, Bobby Clemons, James Carver, David Claxton, Blaine Sapp, and Alex McGee.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Sarma and the staff of the Dialysis Clinic, Dr. Nair and staff, Tender Care and staff, Procare and staff, and nurses of Coffee Regional Medical Center.

Ruth Lee Aldridge Nugent
Mrs. Ruth Lee Aldridge Nugent, 96, of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the home of her daughter following an extended illness.
Mrs. Nugent, a native of Ware County, Ga., was born January 04, 1908, the daughter of the late Manning Leon and Minnie Elizabeth O'Steen Aldridge. She was the widow of the late John Bernard Nugent.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Virginia Clark of Brunswick, Ga., Helen Carter of Willacoochee, Ga., and Dolly Deen of Bainbridge, Ga.; three sons, Jack Nugent of Pearson, Ga., Paul Nugent of Brunswick, Ga., and Tommy Nugent of St. Marys, Ga.; one brother, William "Bill" Aldridge of Willacoochee, Ga.; 19 grand-children, 22 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Atkinson County, Ga., Saturday, June 12, 2004, at 11 a.m., with Father Daniel O'Connell and Father Ted Johnson officiating. Special music was provided by soloist Tammy Paulk who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace," with Michelle White accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Holy Family Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Randy Nugent, Peter Nugent, John Nugent, Ryan Deen, Chuck Carter, and Ryan Nugent.

Emory L. Chaney
Mr. Emory Lewis Chaney, 77, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Friday afternoon, June 11, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mr. Chaney, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was the son of the late Warren Chaney and the late Ethel Stokes Chaney. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired truck driver, and a member of West Ward Street Church of God.
Survivors include: four sisters, Earnie Dene Butler of Warner Robins, Ga., Mary Cofield of Sparks, Ga., Myrtle Burris of Waycross, Ga., and Dessie Stokes of Douglas, Ga.; one brother, Edward "Buddy" Chaney of Blackshear, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 14, 2004, at 2 p.m., at West Ward Street Church of God, with Rev. Jesse Ogden and Rev. Jimmy Jordan officiating. Special musical selections were "Beulah Land," presented by soloist Danny Burns, with Tanya Burns accompanying at the piano, and soloist Elaine Fox rendered "I Cried Holy," with Katherine Threatt accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Wendell Grantham, Ronnie Bennett, Shawn Grantham, Darryl Smith, John Chaney, and Jeff Chaney.
Members of the Hope Sunday School class served as honorary pallbearers.

Little Victor Rances Morales, one-year-old son of Marcos Morales and Wendy Gail Spivey Martinez, passed away Friday, June 11, 2004, at home.
Little Victor Morales was born in Coffee County, Ga., on November 26, 2002.
Survivors include: his parents, Wendy Gail Martinez and Marcos Morales of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Christian Jose Martinez and Jordan Josue Martinez, both of Douglas, Ga.; grandparents, Peggy Sue Spivey and Roy Alvin Spivey of Douglas, Ga., and Epifania Hernandez and Jose Morales Crews of Mexico.
Graveside services and interment were held Sunday, June 13, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Tanner Church Cemetery near Douglas, Ga., with Rev. Leroy Spivey and Rev. Victor Mendoza officiating. Special music was provided by Carolyn Wright, Chris Purvis, and Faye Adams who sang "Jesus Loves Me" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee."

Martha Eunice Lotts Parrish
Mrs. Martha Eunice Lotts Parrish, 79, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, June 10, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Parrish, a native of Lexington County, Va., was born March 15, 1925, the daughter of the late Louis Boyd and Nellie Elvira Smith Lotts. She was a homemaker, the widow of the late Willard Carl "Shorty" Parrish, and a member of the Douglas First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Joel Parrish and fianc/e, Kay Reeves, of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Cindy Parrish of Douglas, Ga., and Ginger Ewing and husband, Skeeter, of Fitzgerald, Ga.,; two sisters, Edna Lotts of Lynchburg, Va., and Alice Davis of Lexington, Va.; one brother, Fred Lotts of Lexington, Va.; seven grandchildren, Clay Thomas, Tracy Parrish, Katy Sweat, Carmon Murphy, Clint Murphy, Erin Parrish, and Joshua Parrish; two great-grandchildren, Barron Thomas and Luke Murphy; one sister-in-law, Nora Jean Rentz; and one brother-in-law, Fred Parrish.
Graveside services and entombment were held 9 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Community Mausoleum in the Douglas City Cemetery, with Rev. Bart Thigpen officiating.

Mrs. Ruby Mae Stoeffler Bivins Kirkland, 84, of Hortense, Ga., passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Heart of Georgia Nursing Home in Eastman, Ga.
Mrs. Kirkland, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born September 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Willie Franklin and Eva Mae Smith Stoeffler. She was the widow of the late James H. Bivins and the late Malcolm D. Kirkland, and a member of the Douglas First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Ronnie Bivins and wife, Barbara, of Hortense, Ga.; one son-in-law, Hubert Leavens of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Louise Spivey of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Willie Stoeffler of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Howell Leavens and wife, Janice, Jerry Leavens and wife, Lisa, Belendia Savoie and husband, Bobby, Sonya Lott and husband, Leon, Sebrina Phelps and husband, David, and Ron Bivins and wife, Tracy; 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Leavens, and a grandson, Jeff Leavens.
Graveside services and interment were held Monday, June 14, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Douglas City Cemetery, with Rev. David Bowen officiating.

Susie Latrelle "Trelle" Jowers Taylor
Mrs. Susie Latrelle "Trelle" Jowers Taylor, 55, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mrs. Taylor, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born Saturday, March 5, 1949, the daughter of Nettie Wilds Jowers and the late Arthur Jowers. She was a 1969 Atkinson County High School graduate of Pearson, Ga. Mrs. Taylor was of the Holiness faith, a homemaker and wife since December 29, 1972.
Survivors include: her husband, Henry Lavone Taylor of Nicholls, Ga.; her mother, Nettie Wilds Jowers of Nicholls, Ga.; two sisters, Shirley Rowell and husband, Hilton, of Hilliard, Fla., and Judy Ann Stapleton of Nicholls, Ga.; one brother, Gene Jowers and wife, Nina, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Graveside services and interment were held Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Jowers Chapel Cemetery in Atkinson County, with Rev. Edgar Musgrove officiating. Special music was provided by William and Jackie Smith, and Michael and Jan Thomas, who sang "One Day At A Time," "Look What I've Traded" and "Is The Blood Still There." Also, a sister, Judy Ann Stapleton, sang "Amazing Grace."

Ann W. Smith, 66, of Ben Hill County, Ga., passed away, Friday, June 4, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Cook County, Ga., was born July 27, 1937, the daughter of the late Herbert and Bertie Pruitt Weeks. She was a homemaker, a former employee of Southern Bell Telephone in Atlanta, a 1955 graduate of Coffee County High School, a member of Prospect Baptist Church, and a former member of Defore Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta. Mrs. Smith also sang with the Gospel Servants.
Survivors include: her husband, Roscoe C. Smith of Fitzgerald, Ga.; one son, David Smith and wife, Brenda, of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Bertha Hancock of Denver, Co.; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Lamar Weeks.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 7, 2004, at Prospect Baptist Church in Ben Hill County, Ga., with Rev. Harris Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Albert T. (Bobby) Tanner, Jr.
Mr. Albert T. (Bobby) Tanner, Jr., 66, of Alma, Ga., passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Tanner was a native of Coffee County, but had lived in Bacon County for the past 17 years. He was the son of the late Albert T. Tanner, Sr. and Eula Cribb Tanner. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Wesley Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Eloise Taylor of Alma, Ga.; two sons, Albert T. (Ted) Tanner, III and wife, Patricia, of Pearson, Ga., and Larry Dewayne Tanner and wife, Lisa, of Alma, Ga.; daughter, Teresa Hobbs and husband, Johnny, of Macon, Ga.; one step-daughter, Elaine Daniels of Alma, Ga.; four sisters, Jean Chaffin of Alma, Ga., Marie Wood of Callahan, Fla., Ruth Rewis of Douglas, Ga., and Myrtice Gustafson of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Tanner was preceded in death by a sister, Wynette Thomas.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at 2 p.m., at Wesley Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church, with Rev. T.F. Yawn and Rev. Fred Morgan officiating.
Interment followed in the Wolf Pit Cemetery.

Dewayne Richardson II, 21, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 14, 2004, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Richardson was born in Jacksonville, Fla., resided in the Jacksonville-Macclenny area all of his life, and was a Baker County High School graduate.
Survivors include: his father, Dewayne Richardson and wife, Diana; his mother, Penny Simmons and husband, John; maternal grandmother, Myrtle Dykes; paternal grandfather, Art Richardson; paternal grandmother Virginia Howard and husband, Robert; his fianc/, Kristen Husky; godfather, Neil McLaurin; and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 17, 2004, in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, in Jacksonville, Fla. Interment followed in Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Cora Wimbley Scippio, 75, of Douglas, Ga., passed away June 5, 2004.
Mrs. Scippio was born in Coffee County, Ga., the daughter of the late Will Wimbley and the late Cora Bell Barnes Wimbley. She attended Coffee County public schools.
Survivors include: two sisters, Elnora Strickland and Dorothy Howard, both of Douglas, Ga.; one brother, O'Neal Wimbley of Douglas, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Laura Cox of Miami, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Nathaniel (Ovella) Scippio of Miami Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 10, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Harrell's Chapel with, Rev. Woodrow Gaskin officiating. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Mrs. Reba Latrelle Spivey, 60, of Blackshear, Ga., passed away Friday, May 28, 2004, at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Spivey, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born August 14, 1943, the daughter of the late Otis and Berta Mae Smith Spivey. She was a homemaker, a sitter/ caregiver with the State of Georgia, and a member of the Douglas Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Survivors include: one son, Clayton Mitchell Easom of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Cathy Smart and Sandra Smart, both of Blackshear, Ga.; four brothers, Jimmy Spivey of Broxton, Ga., Tommy Spivey of Fitzgerald, Ga., and Chuck Spivey and Keith Spivey, both of Nicholls, Ga.; three sisters, Betty Jo Boatright of Douglas, Ga., Linda Criswell of McKenzie, Tenn., and Sherry Evansnu of Waynesville, Ga.; six grandchildren, Tracy Smart, Reba Ann Smart, Mary Moore, Kenny Easom, Michael Smart, and Corey Smart; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 30, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the Douglas Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Elder Jerry Waldron, Rev. Frank Criswell, and Rev. Jimmy Jordan officiating. Special music was provided by soloist Becky Lee who sang "I Need No Mansion" and Diane Wilkerson sang "Each Life That Touches Ours For Good," with Bishop Timothy Fussell accompanying at the piano. Interment followed at the Satilla Memorial Gardens near Douglas, Ga.
Active pallbearers were Mark Spivey, Scot Spivey, Michael Smart, Stan Strickland, Shane Strickland, and Earl Easom.
