Mrs. Jackie Inez Graves Pettit, 83, of Broxton, Ga., passed away Friday morning, May 28, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Pettit, a native of Irwin County, Ga., had lived in Coffee County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Joe Graves and the late Sallie Self Graves, and was of the Holiness Baptist faith.
Survivors include: one daughter, Yvonne Wood of Broxton, Ga.; two brothers, Pearlie Graves of Wray, Ga., and John Willis Graves of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 31, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Newell and Rev. John Norman officiating. A special hymn, "Amazing Grace," was presented by taped music. Interment followed in the Arna Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Frank Pridemore, Albert Garcia, Shawn Merritt, Eddie Garcia, Joey Garcia, and Ricky Cox.

Mrs. Lanie Ward Webb of Douglas, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga.
Mrs. Webb, a native of Broxton, Ga., was the daughter of the late Ben Ward and Lydia Whitfield Ward. She was a member of New Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Charles Webb, Sr.; five sons, Eversee Webb and wife, Trellis, of Fort Pierce, Fla., Charles Webb, Jr., and wife, Louise, and Charleston Webb and wife, Karen, all of Douglas, Ga., Willie Webb and wife, Brenda, and Joseph Webb and wife, Patricia, all of Fort Myers, Fla.; eight daughters, Lusadie Webb, Gracie Mells and husband, Kelvin, Gail Gifford and husband, Larry, Betty Hamilton and husband, Lloyd, and Sylvia Livingston and husband, Isoma, all of Douglas, Ga., Barbara Murph and husband, Calvin, Sabrina Jackson and husband, Dwight, and Alice Curry, all of Fort Myers, Fla.; one God-daugther, Sonya Fulton; two sisters, Margaret Reynolds and husband, General, of Patterson, Ga., and Vivian Maybin of Fort Myers, Fla.; four brothers, Johnny Ward, Charlie Lee Ward and wife, Forestine, Isaac Ward and wife, Eartha, and Robert Ward and wife, Rosa, all of Fort Myers, Fla.; 51 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by two daughters, Bobbie Jean Speight and Alberta Webb.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga., with Rev. L.H. Mobley officiating. Special music was provided by the Shiloh Choir, a duet by Deundra Hamilton and Jessica Norwood, and a solo by Eloise Coates. Interment followed in the Fales Cemetery in Coffee County, Ga.
Active pallbearers were Johnny Ward, Robert Ward, Charlie Ward, Derrick Tucker, Isaac Ward, and Tony Webb.

Mrs. Emily Harrison Brice, 97, of Douglas, Ga., formerly of Macon, Ga., passed away Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Southern Senior Living after an extended illness.
Mrs. Brice, a native of Washington County, Ga., was born January 23, 1907, the daughter of the late John Binion and Dovie May Harrison. She was the widow of the late Walter O. Brice and a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Macon, Ga.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jeannine B. Sears and husband, Wendell, of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Myrtice Parker of Macon, Ga., and Carolyn McClung of Arlington, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Harrison and Estelle Harrison, both of Macon, Ga.; three grandchildren, George Wendell Sears, Jr., and wife, Tina, of Savannah, Ga., Carol Sawyer and husband, Tim, of Douglas Ga., Karen Peele and husband, Jerry, of Eastman Ga.; eight great-grandchildren, Beth, Annalyn, Jennie, Kristen, Kellie, George, Andrew, and Mark; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and interment were held Sunday, May 30, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park in Macon, Ga., with Dr. Jerry Peele officiating.

Jackie Walton Reynolds, Sr.
Mr. Jackie Walton Reynolds, Sr., 53, of Alma, Ga., passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2004.
Mr. Reynolds, a native of Beach-Ware County, Ga., was born November 3, 1950, the son of the late Willie Frank Reynolds and Lula Mae Hoyt Reynolds. He was employed with Wal-Mart in Douglas, Ga., and previously employed with Pet Dairy in Waycross, Ga.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Ann Brinson Reynolds; two daughters, Tonya Reynolds and Waukeasha Reynolds, both of Alma, Ga.; three sons, Jackie Reynolds, Jr., and wife, Fiona, of Douglas, Ga., and Michael Reynolds and Marcus Reynolds, both of Alma, Ga.; three sisters, Carolyn Reynolds of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Bertha Reynolds of Douglas, Ga., and Letta Mae Balwin of Waycross, Ga.; five brothers, Ulysses "Nick" Reynolds and wife, Priscilla, and Earl Reynolds, all of Alma, Ga., Bobby Reynolds and wife, Sonya, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jerry Reynolds of Youngstown, Oh., and Johnny Reynolds and wife, Debra, of Hollywood, Fla.; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Zion Chapel Baptist Church with Apostle Tobias Wilcox Linder officiating. Special music was provided by a combined choir, soloist Vanilla Brinson, and soloist Loretta Brown. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Alma, Ga.

Mrs. Susie Latrelle Jowers Taylor, 55, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mrs. Taylor, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born March 5, 1949, the daughter of Nettie Wilds Jowers and the late Arthur Jowers. She was a homemaker of the Holiness Faith.
Survivors include: her husband, Henry Lavon Taylor of Nicholls, Ga.; her mother, Nettie Jowers of Nicholls, Ga.; two sisters, Shirley Rowell and husband, Hilton, of Hilliard, Fla., and Judy Ann Stapleton of Nicholls, Ga.; one brother, Gene Jowers and wife, Nina, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nieces and nephews, Jamie Rowell and wife, Katrina, Scott Jowers and wife, Amy, Amanda Thompson, Leah Thompson, Cheyenne Rowell, Emile, Briana, and Kylie.
Graveside services and interment were held Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Jowers Chapel Cemetery in Atkinson County, with Rev. Edgar Musgrove officiating. Special music was provided by William, Jackie Smith and Michael, Jan Thomas, who sang "One Day At a Time," "Look What I've Traded," and "Is The Blood Still There;" also, Judy Stapleton sang, "Amazing Grace."

Mrs. Pauline Mildred Lott Conley, 76, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Friday morning, May 28, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Conley, a native of Jeff Davis County, Ga., was the daughter of the late Shad Lott and the late Catherine Ellis Lott. She was a former resident of Waycross and Ware County, Ga., was the widow of the late Sidney Conley, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include: three daughters, Phyllis Vaughn and Nancy Minix, both of Broxton, Ga., and Joyce Wainright of Winder, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her roommate at Shady Acres, Ruth Douglas; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Rev. Herbert Box officiating. Special musical selections included "I'll Fly Away" and "Old Gospel Ship," rendered by Jimmy Carl and Beverly Davis and Mel and Linda Maitland, with Don Harrell accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Lone Hill Cemetery

Mrs. Nadine Walker Peterson, 73, of Broxton, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Peterson, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born December 24, 1930, the daughter of the late Wesley Edward and Letitia Lott Walker. She retired after 30 years as a Coffee County school teacher and was a member of Broxton Baptist Church for 60 years.
Survivors include:her husband, Tom Peterson of Broxton, Ga.; two sons, Tommy Peterson of New York, N.Y, and Wayne Peterson and wife, Beverly, of Broxton, Ga.; one daughter, Beth Sumner and husband, Roy, of Broxton, Ga.; one sister, Anna Jane Smith and husband, Brother, of Broxton, Ga.; her step-mother, Estelle Gillis Walker of Broxton, Ga.; four grandchildren, Justin Peterson, Kendra Kight, Danielle Sumner, and AnnaMarie Sumner, all of Broxton, Ga.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2004, at Broxton Baptist Church, with Rev. Den Weniger, Rev. Judson Blackstock, and Rev. Craig Crosby officiating. Keith and Tonda Soloman sang "Medley of Songs," "Sheltered In the Arms of God," and Rev. Craig Crosby sang "If You Could See Me Now," with Keith Soloman accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Broxton City Cemetery.

Mahala Lyons Paulk
Mahala Lyons Paulk, 88, of Ambrose, Ga., passed away May 29, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mrs. Paulk, a native of Mitchell, Ga., was born February 5, 1916, the daughter of Pearl May and Willie Victor Lyons. She came to Ambrose, Ga., in 1936 to teach school and continued teaching in the Coffee County School System for the next 35 years. Mrs. Paulk was the widow of the late James Erskin "Baby" Paulk and an active member and Sunday school teacher at New Hope Baptist Church and was a volunteer at Coffee Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include: one daughter, Wanda "Kitty" Kellogg of Watkinsville, Ga.; one son, Jerry Michael Paulk and wife, Mary Ann, of Ambrose, Ga; one daughter-in-law, Frances Spell Paulk of Ambrose, Ga.; two brothers John Lyons of Mitchell, Ga., and Kenneth Lyons of Gibson, Ga.; six grandchildren, Victor Paulk and Blaine Paulk, both of Ambrose, Ga., Anna Edge of Atlanta, Ga., Michael Paulk of Douglas, Ga., Mark Paulk of Adel, Ga., and Lisa Kellogg of Dauphin Island, Ala.; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Paulk was preceded in death by her son, James Victor Paulk.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 31, 2004, at New Hope Baptist Church in Ambrose, Ga., with Rev. Ernest Harper officiating. Joyce Harper sang "Amazing Grace" and the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art," accompanied by pianist Virginia Lewis. Interment followed at the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Gladys Ivey Burkett
Mrs. Gladys Ivey Burkett, 89, of Macon, Ga., passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004.
Mrs. Burkett, the daughter of the late Charles Porter Ivey and the late Susan Elizabeth Gibson, was a member of Glenwood Hills United Methodist Church, was retired from the Medical Center of Georgia where she served as supervisor of outpatient services, was a member of the Central City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was the widow of the late John F. Burkett.
Survivors include: several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the chapel of Hart's Mortuary, with Rev. Hamp Watson and Bill Trobaugh officiating. Interment followed in the Burkett Church Cemetery in West Green, Ga.

Jimmy Edward Carter
Mr. Jimmy Edward Carter, 32, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.
Mr. Carter, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born December 25, 1971, the son of the late Bernard Huel and Hannah Christine Adams Carter. He was in general maintenance at Cargo Craft.
Survivors include: his step-father, Talmadge L. Evans of Douglas, Ga., and two sisters, Karen Padgett and husband, Chris, of Waycross, Ga., and Debbie Tapley and husband, Ronnie, of Brunswick, Ga.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 21, 2004, at 4 p.m., at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home, with Rev. Lance Naylor officiating. Special music was taped selections of "Tears In Heaven," "Love Song," and "Word of God Speak" by Eric Clapton. Interment followed in the Hall Cemetery near Nicholls, Ga.

James Elbert Smith
Mr. James Elbert Smith, 50, of West Green, Ga., passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mr. Smith, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born May 30, 1953, the son of the late Fred and Betty Catherine Cato Smith. He was a retired nursing home maintenance person and he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Susan Stokes Smith; one daughter, Kayla Suzette Smith of West Green, Ga.; one sister, Nadine Smith of Broxton, Ga.; and two brothers, Fred Smith of Douglas, Ga., and Charles Smith of Ohio.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 20, 2004, at 2 p.m. at West Green Baptist Church in West Green, Ga., with Rev. Donnie Kirkland officiating. Soloist Jason Hunkapillar sang "The Hammer" and soloist Daryl McLeod sang "Wish You Were Here" and "The Anchor Holds," with Amanda Hayes accompanying at the piano. A taped selection of "Go Rest High On That Mountain" was provided at the graveside service. Interment followed in the Reedy Branch Church Cemetery near Broxton, Ga.

Dr. Emilio L. del Castillo, 79, of Broxton, Ga., formerly of Waycross, Ga., passed away Wednesday, (May 12, 2004 at Southern Senior Living Retirement Home in Douglas, Ga.
Dr. Castillo, a native of Cuba, was born July 29, 1924, the son of the late Emilio Lopez and Josefina De La Torre del Castillo. He was a retired public high school teacher, having taught in Ware County and Laurens County, and a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Elks Club, and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include: his wife, Mercedes Cabarga del Castillo of Broxton, Ga.; one daughter, Lourdes Zachry and husband, R.B., of St. Mary's, Ga.; one brother, Ernesto del Castillo and wife, Josefina, of Miami, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Heather Whitaker and husband, Frank, of Athens, Ga., Maria Luisa Christina Zachry of St. Mary's, Ga., and Robert B. Zachry IV of Douglas, Ga.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 14, 2004, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Douglas, Ga., with Father Daniel O'Connell officiating. Special music was provided by the Saint Paul Catholic Church choir who sang "On Eagle's Wings," "You are Near," "Be not Afraid," and "I am The Bread of Life," with Ginger Burress accompanying at the piano, and soloist Andrew Thomas sang "Panis Angelicus." Interment followed at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Waycross, Ga.

Mrs. Marguerite Hodge Piner Hawley, 85, of Savannah, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Mrs. Hawley, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was a member of Whitefield United Methodist Church and was retired from the Savannah-Chatham County Public Library.
Survivors include: her husband, Walter Hawley of Savannah, Ga.; one daughter, Peggy Minton of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Mackie Hodge of Augusta, Ga.; one sister, Elease Palmer of Hastings, Fla.; three grandchildren, Alan Royal of Newton, N.C., Janet Royal of Savannah, Ga., and Jennifer and David Pallas of Atlanta, Ga.; one great-grandson, Ethan Pallas of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2004, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home Directors at Hodgson Chapel. Burial was private.

Mrs. Annie Maude Killiebrew, 49, of Wray, Ga., passed away Wednesday morning, May 5, 2004, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Ga.
Mrs. Killiebrew, a native of Irwin County, Ga., was born December 22, 1995, the daughter of the late Myrtice Buchannan and the late James Trailor. She was a member of New Beulah Baptist Church of Wray, Ga.
Survivors include: her husband, Raymond Killiebrew of Wray, Ga.; three daughters, Kimberly Killiebrew of Douglas, Ga., LaTonya Foster and husband, Donivan, of Ocilla, Ga., and La Kenya Killiebrew of Wray, Ga.; one grandchild, Tierra Foster of Ocilla, Ga.; one brother, Larry Buchannan and wife, Geraldine, of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Essie Maude Buchannan of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several other relatives and friends. Mrs. Killiebrew was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Ann Buchannan, and one niece, Michelle Buchannan.
