Bernard Clinton Bell
Bernard Clinton Bell of Keysville died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at his residence.
His funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Waynes-boro Deliverance Evangelistic Church, with the Rev. Glenn Wiggins Sr. officiating. Burial will be in New Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Bell, a native of Waynes-boro, was a retired chemist at Georgia Power. He was a Boggs Academy graduate and a 1975 graduate of Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, receiving a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He obtained his master of business administration degree from Central Michigan University, while working for Procter and Gamble in Dover, Del. In 1978, he returned to Burke County and worked in the family construction business. He taught at Phillips College in Augusta and worked at the CSRA Business League for a couple of years before joining the Kendall Company. Later, he assumed a position at Georgia Power, where he remained until his early retirement in 1994.
Survivors include his widow, Patricia P. Bell, two sons, Chasten Bernard Bell and Corban Clinton Bell; a daughter, Sonya Clintine Bell; three brothers, Calvin T. Bell Jr. of Sardis and Vince C. Bell and Jake C. Bell, both of Atlanta; three sisters, Yvonne Bell Plowden of Queens, N.Y.; Julia E. Bingham of Long Island, N.Y. and Neena Bell Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; his father, Calvin T. Bell Sr.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Brinson, Carlton Holmes, Nathaniel Lloyd, Larry Farmer, Reggie Collins and Carl Carswell. Honorary pallbearers will be Chasten Bernard Bell, Corban Clinton Bell, Calvin Turner Bell Sr., Calvin Turner Bell Jr. Vince Challon Bell and Jake Carpenter Bell.
Doug Ide
Doug Ide, 47, of Midville died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002. His funeral will be 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Burke Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ide was born in Grayland, Mich., but lived many years in Anchorage, Alaska. He had lived in Burke County since 1974 and was employed for the State of Georgia Dept. of Agriculture as an inspector. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was Baptist. He was a member of Waynesboro Lodge 274, the Waynesboro Shrine Club, the Waynesboro Lions Club and the Beedy Branch Hunting Club. Survivors include his widow, Deborah Reeves Ide of Midville; a son, Shane A. Ide of Midville; two daughters, Jessica Ide Brantley and her husband, Joshua Brantley, and Caliope M. “Callie” Ide, all of Waynesboro; three sisters, Jeanne Ames of Eagle River, Alaska, and Terri Mundt and Pam Brink, both of Anchorage; four brothers, Mike Ide and Greg Ide, both of Keni, Alaska, Dennis Bennett of Palmer, Alaska, and Don J. Bennett of Anchorage; and his parents, Don and Phyllis Bennett of Yuma, Ariz. Pallbearers will be Alan Gelderman, Chris Murray, Johnny Hannah, Minus Sikes, Mike White, Chuck White, John Isom and Rollins Keen.
A memorial service will be held in Anchorage on Saturday, Oct. 12. Memorial contributions may be made to The Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation, 1109 Medical Center Drive, Augusta, Ga. 30909.
Ronald Bower
Ronald Odell Bower, 48, of McBean Community died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his residence after an extended illness. His funeral was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel in Heph-zibah, with the Revs. Charles Peters and James Bland officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta.
Mr. Bower was a native and lifelong resident of Richmond County. He was a retired meat cutter and keyboard player and raised silky terrier dogs for a hobby.
Survivors include his widow, Sandra Ferguson Bower of McBean; a son, Shane Odell Bower of Waynesboro; a daughter-in-law, Karen Cutlip Bower of Waynesboro; a brother, Kenneth G. Bower of Marietta; a sister, Janet E. Bower of Augusta; two stepsisters, Val Curry of Augusta and Amy Chesser of Hephzibah; a stepbrother, Richard Rickerson of Augusta; his mother, Joyce Tebow Mayton of Hephzibah; stepfather, Jim Mayton of Hephzibah; his father, Jesse Bower of Augusta; stepmother, Margie Bower of Augusta; grandfather, George Tebow of Augusta; and two granddaughters, Bonnie Cutlip and Kaleigh Bower, both of Waynesboro. Pallbearers were Ricky Mayton, Greg Coursey, Donald Tebow, Johnny Tebow, Shane Bower and Jason Cochran.
Lillie B. Carr
Lillie B. Carr, 73, of Waynes-boro died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 in Thomson.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, with Minister Jesse Martinez officiating. She donated her body for science research. Mrs. Carr, a native of Jesup, was a cashier and waitress at Mobley’s Cafeteria in Waynes-boro for 20 years and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Survivors include her widower, Bobby R. Carr of Waynes-boro.
Margaret Johnson Margaret Hutchins Johnson, 74, of Stillmore died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Wadley Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Mrs. Johnson was a native of Jefferson County. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Wadley Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mike Johnson of Sardis; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Irene Moore
Irene Moore of Waynesboro died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at University Hospital.
Her funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at New Hope Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, with Elder Willie Jordan officiating. Burial was in Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Moore was a native of South Carolina. She was a retired seamstress.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Ashley Moore Sr. and his wife, Mary Moore, of Waynes-boro; two daughters, Marilyn Moore and Barbara Curtis, both of Miami; two brothers, Robert Lowery and Robert Kelsey, both of Miami; and two sisters, Fred-die Mae Gaines of Waynesboro and Elouise Wright of Miami; and 14 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Mattie Sapp-Jordan Allison
Mattie Sapp-Jordan Allison of Augusta died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at Augusta Hills.
Her funeral was 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Beech Branch Baptist Church, with Bishop Thomas Aaron officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Allison lived most of her adult life in Philadelphia Survivors include a son, Otis Jerome Jordan of Stafford, Va.; two daughters, Helen Sapp Godbee of Augusta and Diane Dubose of Philadelphia; three brothers, J.C. Jordan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Major Jordan Jr. of Savannah and James Henry Jordan of Roosevelt, N.Y.; a sister, Anna Walker of Woodbridge, Va.; and 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons.
Joseph Blandford
Joseph Langley Blandford of Toccoa died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at his residence.
Memorial services will be held th-roughout the North and Southeast to celebrate his life at Living History and re-enactment events. The Waynesboro memorial will be held at the Battle of Buckhead Church Dec. 7, 2002 at 1 p.m. Details for a memorial held by the family are not complete. Mr. Blandford, a native of Kingston, Pa.., was the son of Joseph Rowland and Nora Eleanor Weede Blandford of Waynesboro. He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and attended Augusta College, before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1963, where he served for 27 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sargeant. He served in Libya, Korea, Vietnam and Iceland, and received a foreign decoration, the Bunde-swehr Schutzenschnur (Federal Republic of Germany), Army Marksmanship Badge. He was an active member of Sons of Confederate Veterans, the 38th of Georgia and the First Independent Brigade, all organizations that teach through Living History Days and at re-enactments. He also participated in several movies including the documentary of Andersonville. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Greenville, S.C.
Survivors include his widow, Cathy Blandford of Toccoa; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Lee and Gary Stewart of Lake Wales, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Tim Campbell of North Augusta, S.C.; four granddaughters, Emily, Sarah, Kelly and Victoria, all of Lake Wales; and three stepchildren. Willie James Kelly
Willie James Kelly of Way-nesboro died Thursday, October 10, 2002 at Doctors Hospital. His funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Salter Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Henry Bush officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Kelly, a native of Burke County, was a farmer. He was a member of Third Chapel.
Survivors include his widow, Sarah Kelly of Midville; two daughters, Jessie Mae Bush and Sarah Jean Bush, both of Midville; a brother, George Kelly of Waynesboro; and four sisters, Laura Alston, Helen Thomas and Betty Jones, all of Waynesboro, and Lillie McNair of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Raye M. Sapp
Raye Martin Sapp, 83, of Waynesboro died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at Burke Medical Center. Graveside services were 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro, with Dr. David Carter officiating. Mrs. Sapp, a native of Little Rock, Ark., had lived most of her adult life in Waynesboro. She had retired from Burke Drug Co., was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Sapp. Survivors include a son, Mike Sapp of Beaufort, S.C.; a daughter, Pat Odom of Waynesboro; a brother, Johnny Martin of Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren, Julie Odom of Augusta, Sharon Sapp of Chatsworth, Calif., Harrison Sapp of Beaufort, S.C., Christopher Sapp of Greenville, S.C. and Ginger Cason of St. Simons; and three great-grandchildren. Torbit Way Jr.
Torbit Way Jr., 45, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 in Austell.
His funeral was 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Jones Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie James Jackson Jr. officiating. Mr. Way, a native of Boston, Mass., was educated in the Boston Public School System. He was a retired Air Force Master Sergeant and served in Vietnam 1974-1994. He was a member of the United House of Prayer, where he served on the church board. Survivors include two brothers, Moses Way of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Leroy Smith of Waynesboro; and four sisters, Willie Eunice Brown of Ft. Lauderdale, Ella Mae Roseboro of Detroit, Mich., Geraldine Lovett of Waynesboro and Martha Ann Way of Boston. Pallbearers were the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
Marie M. David
Marie M. David of Millen died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at Jenkins County Hospital.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at 707 Tucker Ave. in Waynesboro. Mrs. David was the wife of the late Alexander David.
Survivors include a daughter, Michele Gordon of Waynes-boro; and a brother, Jack Hilde-brandt of Miami.
Leon R. Hall
Leon R. Hall, 76, of States-boro died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. His funeral was 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at Statesboro First Baptist Church, with the Rev. H. William Perry officiating. Burial was 1 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro. Mr. Hall, a native of Jenkins County, had lived in New Orleans, Beaufort and Atlanta before moving to Statesboro in 1973. He was a Line Supervisor at ITT Grinnell, where he retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Wanders Camping Club, VFW, Lions Club and was a Ham radio operator. He was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. Survivors include his widow, Nita Turner Hall of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Lesa Hall of Savannah; a brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Susan Hall of Walterboro, S.C.; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and W.C. Hodges of Beaufort, S.C., Sue Kicklighter and Geneva Jenkins, both of Way-nesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Statesboro First Baptist Church Building Fund, 108 N.
