Nell Mizell
Mrs. Nell Mizell, 77, of Homerville, Ga., formerly of Kirkland, Ga., passed away Monday, February 2, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Valdosta, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Mizell, a native of Ware County, Ga., was born July 12, 1926, the daughter of Raymond "Cado" and Belle Powell Giddens. She had worked for many years at Cady Industries in Pearson, Ga., was a member of Lang County Church, and was the widow of the late Spencer Mizell.
Survivors include: four daughters, Reba Mizell and husband, Donald, of Axson, Ga., Sue McClellan and husband, Ronald, of Valdosta, Ga., Latrelle Peters and husband, Robert, of Valdosta, Ga., and Audrey Swilley and husband, Gary, of Savannah, Ga; three sisters, Barbara McGill of St. Pauls, N.C., and Christine Webb and Linda Kirk of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Riley Lloyd Giddens and Johnny Giddens, both of Douglas, Ga.; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mizell was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Giddens, Jr.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mizell were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at Lang County Church, with Rev. Clyde Purvis and Rev. George O'Berry officiating. Special music was as follows: soloist Angelia Jones with taped music presented "Beulah Land," and "The Anchor Holds" was presented by soloist Gail Infinger with taped music. The congregation sang "I'll Fly Away," with Ms. Elaine Floyd accompanying at the piano. Pianist Elaine Floyd played soft music for the prelude and postlude. Internment followed in Lang Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were grandsons and great grandsons -- Jason Peters, Derek Peters, Travis Mizell, Brandon Mizell, Dustin White, and Garrett White.
Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters -- Miki Clogston, Diane White, Lori Mizell, and Amanda Leviton.

Mr. Oliver Waldo Vickers, 67, of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away Monday, February 2, 2004, at home following an extended illness.
Mr. Vickers, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born June 9, 1936, the son of the late Glynn Roy and Gussie Vickers. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include: one brother, Wade Vickers of Willacoochee, Ga.; four aunts, Mary Henderson of Ocilla, Ga., Allene Patton of Douglas, Ga., Allowee Grantham of Augusta, Ga., and Omi Ree Meeks of Nicholls, Ga.; one uncle, Rufus Patton of Douglas, Ga..
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Sims Funeral Home Chapel, Douglas, Ga.,with Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. Soloist June Merritt sang "Beulah Land" and "Amazing Grace," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. Burial followed in the New Hope Church Cemetery near Ambrose, Ga.

David Joiner
Mr. David Joiner, 69, of Eatonton, Ga., passed away Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton, Ga.
Mr. Joiner was born October 28, 1934. She was a pipe fitter and member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters of Macon/Atlanta and was a member of the Church of God in Live Oak, Fla.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Joiner of Eatonton, Ga.; one daughter, Susie Baker of Live Oak, Fla.; four sons, David Mitchell Joiner and Jonathan Joiner, both of Milledgeville, Ga., Michael Dwayne Joiner of Eatonton, Ga., and Mark Alan Joiner of Macon, Ga.; one sister, Ruby Wielgus of Byron, Ga.; four brothers, Hiram Joiner of Byron, Ga., Roy Joiner of Jacksonville, Fla., Herbert Joiner of Douglas, Ga., and E.L. Joiner of Macon, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 8, 2004, at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton, Ga., with Rev. Fred Watson officiating.

Eddie L. Dumas
Ms. Eddie L. Dumas, 67, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Monday, January 26, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Dumas was born July 27, 1936, the daughter of the late Dianna Boyd West and the late Edd West. She worked at Dade County School Board in Miami, Fla., for 11 years, living in Miami, Fla., for many years then returning to Douglas, Ga., in 1991. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in West Green, Ga.
Survivors include: her husband, James L. Dumas; two daughters, Mae Culberson and husband, Arnaz, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Margie Hood and husband, James Russell, of Miami, Fla.; four sisters Ida Mae Tiller and Carrie Hardee and husband, Willie, all of Homerville, Ga., Della Williams and husband, Namon, of West Green, Ga., and Francina Alexander and husband, Samuel Patterson, of Waycross, Ga.; one brother, Joe L. West and wife, Bertha, of Homerville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Angelic Haywood, Tranavia Dowell, Lakeisha Haywood, Sandra Hood, and James (Sporty) Hood, III, all of Miami, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren, Angela Adams, Angelo Adams, Jameshia Hood, Rameshia, Hood, Shawn Beneby, Jr., Imani Cooper, and Jahni Cooper; several other relatives and friends. Mrs. Dumas was preceded in death by one brother, George Boyd, and one sister, Bobbie J. West.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2004, at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Sandy Bottom, with Rev. Glenda M. Newton officiating. Interment followed at the Holmes Chapel Cemetery in Clinch County.
Active pallbearers were sons-in-law, nephews, and friends.

Mose Joiner, Jr.
Mr. Mose Joiner, Jr., 72, of Okeechobee, Fla., passed away Monday, February 2, 2004, at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis.
Mr. Joiner, a native of Douglas, Ga., was born May 8, 1931, the son of the late Mose and Lula Nipper Joiner. He had been a resident of Okeechobee for 70 years. Mose attended Okeechobee High School after which he enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy in the helicopter anti-submarine squadron. He worked and retired as an electrical journeyman lineman and was a union member of IBEW Local 222. Mr. Joiner was a member of Okeechobee Cattlemen's Association, Farm Bureau, and Okeechobee Church of God, where he was involved in the music program. He was the former owner/operator of Mister Gentlemen clothing store.
Survivors include: his wife, Edith Thomas Joiner of Okeechobee, Fla.; five children, Johnny E. Johnson and wife, Janice, of Hickory, N.C., Marie Veasey and husband, Walter, Phyllis C. Walker, and Kirby D. Joiner and wife, Darlyne, all of Okeechobee, Fla., and Mose B. Joiner and wife, Nancy, of Orlando, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Joiner and wife, Martha Jane, and Ellis Kinard, all of Okeechobee, Fla., and Calvin Kinard of Ohio; two sisters, Anna Smith of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Lorene Watford of Sumterville, Fla. Mr. Joiner was preceded in death by two brothers, "Sam" Jesse Joiner and Riley Kinard.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 6, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Okeechobee Church of God, with Pastor Larry Kilgore and Paul Buxton officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Montez McDonald
Mrs. Montez McDonald, 89, of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away Monday, February 2, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. McDonald, a native of a part of Coffee County now known Atkinson County, was born December 24, 1914, the daughter of Jess and Mary Corbett Wall. She was retired from Tift General Hospital after working for 35 years as a ward clerk, was a member of Eastern Star for 50 years in the Nashville, Ga., Chapter, had also served as Chairman for the March of Dimes in Atkinson County, and was a member of Willacoochee United Methodist Church. She was the widow of the late William Ottis McDonald, Sr.
Survivors include: one son, Ottis McDonald, Jr., and wife, Sally, of Pearson, Ga.; one daughter, Veneta Anne Cochran of Willacoochee, Ga.; five grandchildren, Sherry Ziegler, Stanley Hughes, Erika Godwin, Joey McDonald, and Joan Harvey; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. McDonald were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at the Willacoochee City Cemetery, with Rev. Edward Mathews and Rev. Eddie Morrison officiating. Internment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery.

Zula Annis Marrs Rogers
Mrs. Zula Annis Rogers, 96, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday January 15, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Rogers, a native of Webster County, Kent., was born July 12, 1907, the daughter of the late Willie and Dora Blade Marrs. She was a homemaker, the widow of the late Clarence Rogers, and a member of the Jehovah Witness.
Survivors include: one daughter, Nell Atkinson of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Jack Rogers and wife, Bobbie, of Douglas, Ga., and Glynn Rogers and wife, Phyllis, of Douglasville, Ga.; one sister, Bell Hardigree and husband, Charles, of Decatur, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Carol Ann Lott, Mike Rogers, Jacqueline Vickers, Bret Rogers, Mark Rogers, Byron Rogers, Phillip Rogers, Randy Rogers, and Shannon Dismuke; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Saturday January 17, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Douglas City Cemetery.

Freddie Ray Moncrief
Mr. Freddie Ray Moncrief, 51, of Mayberry Lane, Douglas, Ga., passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas, Ga.
Mr. Moncrief, a native of Clinch County, Ga., was born July 18, 1952, the son of Ruth Harden Luke and the late Wilbur Ray Moncrief. He was a maintenance worker.
Survivors include: his wife, Trudy Moncrief of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Melina Odgen and Benita Lott, both of Atlanta, Ga.; one step-son, Cagey Varnedore of Douglas, Ga.; mother, Ruth Harden Luke of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Helen Fields of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Blake Odgen and Danielle Odgen, both of Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Moncrief was preceded in death by one sister, Faye Moncrief.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 11 a.m., at First Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Jerry Waldron and Rev. Bobby Fields officiating. Soloist Jason Hunkapillar sang "The Dance," "Daddy's Hands," and "One More Day," with Rebecca Taylor providing soft music for the prelude and postlude. Burial followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Florine Hutchinson Stone
Mrs. Florine Hutchinson Stone, 68, of Rt. 2, Pearson, Ga., passed away Friday, February 6, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Stone, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born March 27, 1935, the daughter of Jacob Reason and Levenne Boutwell Hutchinson. She had worked for many years as a seamstress, was of the Baptist faith, and was the widow of the late Ervin Stone, Sr.
Survivors include: two sons, J.E. Stone and wife, Hazel, of Dupont, Ga., and Ervin Stone, Jr., and wife, Pat, of Pearson, Ga.; three daughters, Sylvia Walker and husband, Johnny, of Enigma, Ga., Sandra Hawkins and husband, William, of Millwood, Ga., and Marion Mevar and husband, Scott, of MaComb, Mich.; one sister, Claudine Rushing of Dothan, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2004, at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. J.A. Anderson officiating. Special music included "Go Rest High on That Mountain" rendered by Betty Davis and Huey and Delores Bennett, with Betty Davis accompanying at the piano; "I Dreamed of Mama Last Night" presented on tape by Hank Williams, Jr.; and "Long, Black Train" presented by soloist Terry Palmer, with Huey Bennett accompanying on the guitar. Woodrow Goodman
Mr. Woodrow Goodman, 85, of Cadwell, Ga., passed away Friday, February 6, 2004, at Southland Care Center in Dublin, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mr. Goodman, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born September 17, 1918, the son of James Hardy and Nancy Solomon Goodman, A former resident of Pearson, Ga., he had made his home in Cadwell since 1997, was a retired mechanic and member of Orange Lodge F&AM #36 in Apopka, Fla., and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Louise Corbitt Goodman of Cadwell, Ga.; three sons, Rev. Daniel Marvin Goodman and wife, Margie, of Stapleton, Ga., and Larry C. Goodman and wife, Dorothy, and Tony R. Goodman and wife, Patricia, all of Cadwell, Ga.; one daughter, Shelia L. Parker and husband, Ronald, of Mt. Dora, Fla.; one half-brother, Rev. Ben Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Miss Omi Ree Sumner, 90, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Monday, January 12, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas, Ga.
Miss Sumner, a native of Jeff Davis County, Ga., was born January 10, 1914, the daughter of the late Melvin Newton and Aleph Minchew Sumner. A retired teacher after 44 years of service, having taught in the public school system in Jeff Davis County and Coffee County, Ga., and Volusia County, Fla., Miss Sumner was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist (Byrd) Church in Jeff Davis County, Ga.
Survivors include: five nieces, Jean Kirkland of Greer, S.C., Waunelle Vickers Sims and Markey Cady, both of Douglas, Ga., and Mary Lauber and Raleigh Hussmann, both of Rome, Ga.; two nephews, Bill Sumner of Wewahitchka, Fla., and Fred Rau of Denver, Co.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 15, 2004, at 4 p.m., at Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Marshall Adcock and Rev. Rex Hussmann officiating. Mrs. Evelyn Agnes Farrill Corbett, 61, Oak Park Street, Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, January 8, 2004, at home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Corbett, a native of Pierce County, Ga., was born November 12, 1942, the daughter of the late James William, Sr., and Velvaleen Pitey Herrin Farrill. She was a homemaker. S

Mr. Charles Richard Waters, 63, of Hwy. 32 West, Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, January 1, 2004, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
Mr. Waters, a native of Catoosa County, Ga., was born March 20, 1940, the son of the late William Edgar and Aileen Flowers Waters. He was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include: his wife, Martha Spikes Waters of Douglas, Ga.; five daughters, Robin Gardner of Ringgold, Ga., Pam West of Etowah, Tenn., Melissa Hannon of Fitzgerald, Ga., Buffy Waters of Douglas, Ga., and Felicia Arnold of Hazlehurst, Ga.; two sons, Charles Richard Waters, Jr., of Ringgold, Ga., and Bo Porter of Douglas, Ga.; three sisters, Frances Lizana and Imogene Fejeran, both of Ringgold, Ga., and Mary Jo Triplett of Etowah, Tenn.; three brothers, William Edgar Waters, Jr., Jimmy Waters, and Clinton Waters, all of Ringgold, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mary Lott O'Steen
Mrs. Mary Lott O'Steen, 93, of Douglas, Ga., formerly of the Mora community, passed away Wednesday morning, January 14, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. O'Steen, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was the daughter of the late Joel Lott and the late Annie Bell Youngblood Lott. She was the widow of the late Walter O'Steen, with whom she operated Mora Grocery Store for about 20 years, and was a member of Mora Baptist Church.
Survivors include: five sons, Joe Bryant O'Steen of Douglas, Ga., James Westel O'Steen of Lanett, Ala., Kenneth O'Steen of Valdosta, Ga., Bobby O'Steen of Goose Creek, S.C., and Walter Lamar O'Steen of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Esther Purcell and Minnie Mae Paulk, both of Douglas, Ga.; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Mora Baptist Church, with Rev. George C. Paulk officiating.
