Shirley Jordan
Mr. Shirley Jordan, 58, of Pearson, Ga., passed away early Saturday morning, November 15, 2003, at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Jordan, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was the son of the late Joe Jordan and the late Arminda Harrell Jordan. He was a vinyl siding installer and a member of the New Vision House of Worship Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Murray Jordan of Pearson, Ga.; three daughters, Nita Whitehead, Melinda Kirkland, and Gayle Windham, all of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Sandy Jordan of Axon, Ga., and Jimmy Jordan of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Bobby Jordan of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Wesley Jordan of Kirkland, Ga.; one sister, Tisha White of Waycross, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 17, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the New Vision House of Worship Church, with Rev. Larry Johnson and Rev. Ronald Rhymes officiating. Special musical selections, "It's So Peaceful" and "Lily in My Valley," were presented by the soloist and pianist, Betty Brigmond. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Atkinson County.
Active pallbearers were Neil Jordan, Rex Jordan, Randall Rhymes, Danny Jordan,, Tim Jordan, and Michael Jordan.
The congregation served as Honorary pallbearers.

Jessie P. Young
Mrs. Jessie "Jack" Peterson Young, 85, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Tuesday evening, November 11, 2003, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Young, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was the daughter of the late Dan Peterson and the late Lillie Starling Peterson. She had lived in the Leesburg, Fla., area for several years, prior to moving back to Douglas. She was a retired beautician, a member of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Main Street Baptist Church of Leesburg, Fla.
Survivor include: her husband, Roy Young of Douglas, Ga.; three grandchildren, Bonnie Bennett of Millwood, Ga., Vickie Doggett of Folkston, Ga., and Warren Brown of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Ottie Mae Vickers and Lucille Peterson, both of Douglas, Ga.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by one son, Linton Brown; one brother, Chester Peterson; and two sisters, Leatha Lewis Spivey, and Vicie Pope.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 13, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Rev. Stephen Hart, Sr., officiating. A special musical selection, "Amazing Grace," was presented acappella by the soloist Amy Johns. Prelude and postlude soft selections were rendered by the pianist, Amy Johns. Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Eddie Smith, Randall Smith, Josh Davis, David Parrish, Mike Davis, Rand Vickers, and Lawrence "Pender" Mazzer.

Elinor Opal Petty Clements
Mrs. Elinor Opal Petty Clements, 67, of Wicksburg, Ala., passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Mrs. Clements, a native of Houston County, was born May 23, 1936. She lived in Douglas, Ga., 15 years prior to moving to Dothan in 1976. She was employed with Civil Service for over 20 years prior to her retirement in 1998 and was also employed with Southeast Alabama Medical Center as postmaster for 10 years. Mrs. Clements was a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Lee Clements of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Daphne Clements Hardy and fianc/, Dewayne Batchelor, of Pelham, Ga.; four grandchildren, Melissa Michelle Reddick, Luther lee Hardy, KaLeigh Nicole Clements, and Kagan Rhyan Clements; three sisters, Anne Trice of Dothan, Ala., Madge Alley and husband, Ray, of Wicksburg, Ala., and Evelyn Chapman and husband, Richard, of Pinckard; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2003, at bay Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Taylor officiating. Interment following the Selma Baptist Church Cemetery.

John William 'Dub' Patton
Mr. John William "Dub" Patton, 55, of Benton Powell Road, Uvalda, Ga., passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at home.
Mr. Patton, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born February 3, 1948, the son of the late Temmies Jerrell and Mavis Ruth O'Neal Patton. He was a vehicle mechanic.
Survivors include: one daughter, Ami Patton of Douglas, Ga.; six sisters, Faye Foskey and husband, Buddy, Lou Waldron and husband, Scott, Carolyn Harper and husband, Ronald, Jean Smith and husband, Steve Peterson, and Angela Youngblood, all of Douglas, Ga., and Geraldine Burress of St. Augustine, Fla.; one brother, Ronnie (Sabrina) Patton and wife, Sabrina, of Douglas, Ga.; two grandchildren, Hunter Murphy and Leanna Patton; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Patton was preceded in death by one son, John William Patton, Jr.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 14, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Terry Barnes officiating. Special music was provided by Sherrill Hersey, LaRhonda Hersey, and Donna Barnes who sang "Tear Drops" and "Amazing Grace," with Kathy Tanner accompanying at the piano. Burial followed at the Bethany Church Cemetery.

Sally Y. Johnson
Mrs. Sally Yawn Johnson, age 81, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday morning, November 13, 2003, at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga., following a frief illness.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Telfair County, was the daughter of the late Calvin Johnson and the late Annie Dowdy Johnson. She had lived in the Coffee County area for most of her life, was the widow of the late Pete Johnson, and was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Bonnie Ricketson and husband, Harvey, of Douglas, Ga.; one son, Wilbert Johnson and wife, Ann, of Norcross, Ga.; one brother, J.T. Yawn of Milan, Ga; three sisters, Loia Smith of Broxton, Ga., Mary Gray of Hartwell, Ga., and Dorothy Mae Boyer of Hazlehurst, Ga.; four grandchildren, Lou Little and husband, Tommy, Sandy Lee and husband, Gene, all of Douglas, Ga., Anna Broome and husband, Thad, of Buford, Ga., and Pam Davis and husband, Louis, Jr., of Sugarhill, Ga.; Eight great-grandchildren, Derek Little and wife, Dori, Diana Tanner and husband, Casey, Devin Davis, Greyson Davis, Lilah Davis, Brittany Boone, Lindsey Boone, and Walker Lee; one great-great grandchild, Hunter Tanner; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by four brothers, William Henry Yawn, T.D. Yawn, Sam Yawn, and Spurgeon Yaw; and four sisters, Ida Williams, Beverly Yawn, Pauline Yawn, and Madi Yawn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the College Avenue Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy DeLoach, Rev. Sam Gray, and Rev. Stephen Hart, Sr., officiating. Special musical selections were as follows: "If You Could See Me Now" was presented by soloist John Glosson with taped music, "Beulah Land" was presented by soloist Larry Lewis with taped music, and "Amazing Grace" was presented by the congregation, with Beth Green accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Pridgen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Elmer MacQuinn
Mr. Elmer MacQuinn, 78, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003, at his home.
Mr. MacQuinn, a native of Bates, Mo., was born October 8, 1925, the son of the late Warnie and Lora Hayes McQuinn. He was a World War II retired veteran aviator of the United States Navy.
Survivors include: his wife, Janice Mary Fleming MacQuinn; three sons, David MacQuinn of Salem, N.Y., Kevin MacQuinn of Madison, Ala., and Robert MacQuinn of Broussard, La.; four grandchildren, Andrew MacQuinn, Daniel MacQuinn, Justin MacQuinn, and Heather Loveland; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eula Ghere and Ruby Cummings, both of Butler, Mo., and Reva Shelts of Oklahoma City, Ok.; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at the Douglas First United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 6, 2003, with Benji Varnell officiating.

Claude Douglas Corbitt
Mr. Claude Douglas Corbitt of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Pearson, Ga., passed away November 11, 2003, at Orange Park Nursing Home in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Corbitt, a native of Pearson, Ga., was the son of the late Lester and Mattie Douglas Corbitt. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Waunelle Davis Corbitt of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Claudia Carlene Corbitt of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, James Douglas Corbitt of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandsons, Tervor and James Corbitt, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Dorthie Corbitt Little of Albany, Ga., and Bettye Jean Corbitt Davis and Mattie Lou Corbitt Smith, both of Pearson, Ga.; one brother, Lester Bill Corbitt of Macon, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Corbitt was preceded in death by one son, James Claude Corbitt; three brothers, Allen Washington Corbitt, Gerald Dean Corbitt, and James Bryant Corbitt; and two sisters, Aurelle Corbitt West and Mary Ruth Corbitt Palmer.

Freddie Kirkland, Sr.
Mr. Freddie Kirkland, Sr., 66, of Old Axson Road, Douglas, Ga., passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2003, at home following an extended illness.
Mr. Kirkland, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born March 24, 1937, the son of the late Richard Gaines and Beatrice Adams Kirkland. He was a retired United States Navy veteran after serving 30 years and was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church, Douglas, Ga.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ellen Greenway Kirkland of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Freddie Kirkland, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., and Moshe Dayan Isaac Kirkland of Swainsboro, Ga.; one daughter, Lynn Williams of Douglas, Ga.; two grandchildren, Mary Curry of Douglas, Ga., and Tony Leedom of Kenosha, Wis.; one sister, Winifred McKean of Lady Lake, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at 4 p.m., at Saint Paul Catholic Church, with Father Daniel O'Connell officiating. Lois Mills, pianist, provided soft music for the prelude and postlude. Burial will follow at a later date.
Active pallbearers were personnel of Kings Bay Naval Base, and personnel from Albany Naval Base presented the U.S. flag to family.

Rev. William Denton 'Bill' Burkett, Jr.
Rev. William Denton "Bill" Burkett, Jr., 70, of Mark Mobley Road, West Green, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, Ga., following a brief illness.
Rev. Burkett, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born September 15, 1933, the son of the late William Denton, Sr., and Doris Burkett. He was a retired farmer, had been a Minister in the Smyrna Baptist Association for 42 years serving many churches in this area, was presently Pastor of West Green Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Jo Ann Harkleroad Burkett of West Green, Ga.; one son, Keith Burkett and wife, Denise, of West Green, Ga.; two daughters, Ann Coleman and husband, Gary, of Gainesville, Ga., and Doris Wooten and husband, Sammie D., of Snipesville, Ga.; six grandchildren, Miranda Burkett, Jamie Burch, Gabriel Coleman, Michael Coleman, Daren Wooten, and Ryan Wooten; one great-grandchild, Hannah Wooten; two sisters, Jean Byrd and wife, Bobby, of West Green, Ga., and Joyce B. Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla.; special aunt, Fannie Mae Burkett of West Green, Ga.; nieces and nephews.

Lloyd Harold 'Pete' Barnwell, Sr.
Mr. Lloyd Harold "Pete" Barnwell, Sr., 78, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Tuesday November 4, 2003, at Summer's Landing Retirement Home.
Mr. Barnwell, a native of Buncombe County, N.C., was born September 28, 1925, the son of the late Joshua Hall and Cora Lee Mart Barnwell. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired pilot with the crop dusting industry and a member of Douglas First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Pamela B. Griggs and husband, Steve, of Marietta, Ga., and Joy Barnwell and Jenny Lott and husband, David, all of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Hal Barnwell and wife, Joyce, and Sage Barnwell and wife, Cindy, all of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Edward Barnwell of Black Mountain, N.C., and James Barnwell of Sylva, N.C.; nine grandchildren.

William Randolph 'Randy' McKinnon
Mr. William Randolph "Randy" McKinnon, 47, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. McKinnon, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born March 15, 1956, the son of the late Carl Jesse and Hazel Pauline Brown McKinnon. He was a carpenter, a veteran of the United States Army, and attended Sunnyside Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael Shane McKinnon of Valdosta, Ga., and Raymond Corey McKinnon of Douglas, Ga.; five brothers, James Travis McKinnon of Lake City, Fla., Jesse Edward McKinnon, David Wayne McKinnon, George Russell McKinnon, and Carl Fred McKinnon, al of Douglas, Ga.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Sime Youngblood officiating. S music was as follows: soloist/pianist Melinda Gilbert sang "Amazing Grace" and "Daddy's Hands." Also a taped selection of "Go Rest High On That Mountain" by Vince Gill was provided. Interment followed in Royals Church Cemetery, Atkinson County, Ga.

John Arthur Harrell
Rev. John Arthur Harrell, 91, of West Green, Ga., passed away Sunday, November 9, 2003, at Shady Acres Convalescent Center, Douglas, Ga.
Rev. Harrell, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born December 31, 1911, the son of the late Marion Franklin and Lillian Hester Harrell. He was a retired farmer, a retired Baptist Minister, and a member of West Green Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Clara Harrell of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter Lenora Head of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, John Franklin Harrell of Southern California; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at 2 p.m., at West Green Baptist Church, with Rev. Wayne Hayes and Rev. Herbert Box officiating. Special music was provided by the West Green Baptist Church Choir who sang "Amazing Grace" and "Sweet By & By," with Wanda Rivers accompanying at the piano. Burial and graveside services with Rev. Alton Carver officiating followed at the Douglas City Cemetery.

Master Kristopher Waylon Smith, 3, of Fitzgerald, Ga., passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003, in Fitzgerald, Ga.
Kristopher, a native of Fitzgerald, Ga., was born May 13, 2000, the son of Hubert L. Smith, Jr., and Audra Champion Smith. He loved fishing, building things, and playing with real tools. He attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his parents, Hubert L., Jr., and Audra Champion Smith; two sisters, Haley Cherish Smith and Katie Lee Hutto, both of Fitzgerald, Ga.; grandparents, Hubert L., Sr., and Janice Smith of Fitzgerald, Ga., Sandra Sanders of Fitzgerald, Ga., and John and Doris Champion of Hanford, Calif.; great-grandmother, Carrie Champion of Hanford, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2003, at New Bethel Holiness Church in Ben Hill County, Ga., with Rev. Steve Hand officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Adam Joseph Archer
Mr. Adam Joseph Archer, 38, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003, in Lawrenceville, Ga., following a brief illness.
Mr. Archer, a native of Orange County, Calif., was the son of the late Francis Joseph Archer and the late Charlotte Hall Archer. He had lived in the Douglas area for some time, was a cultured marble installer, and was a member of the Georgia Game Breeders Association.
Survivors include: his wife, Angela L. Archer of Douglas, Ga.; special friend, Kelly Feeler of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Linda Archer and Megan Archer, both of Tampa, Fla.; five sons, Adam J. Archer, Jr., of Tampa, Fla., Jonathan Lemus, Joseph Lemus, Alexander Archer, and Gregory Laursen, all of Douglas, Ga.; three sisters, Sheila Glassmyer and Novie Balog, both of Tampa, Fla., and Robin Hess of Riverview, Fla.; one brother, David Archer of Riverview, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
