Inez Dearman

Inez Dearman, 85, of Augusta died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at Windermere Nursing Home in Augusta. Her funeral will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, Miss., with the Rev. Charles Brady officiating. Burial will follow at McLain Cemetery in McLain, Miss. Mrs. Dearman was a member of the Shelton Baptist Church. She lived in Moselle, Miss., prior to moving here two years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Dearman. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Louis D. and Ann Dearman of Florida and Robert Dearman of South Carolina; a daughter, Lois D. Shoemake of Georgia; three sisters, Mary Wahl of Ohio and Myrtle Fairchild and Retha Williams, both of Mississippi; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 25, from 5-8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Mississippi.

Clarence A. Phillips

Clarence Arwell “C.A.” Phillips of Waynesboro died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. His funeral was 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church, with the Revs. Gary Lindbaugh, Butch Taylor and Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens. Mr. Phillips, a native of Spar-tenburg County, S.C., moved to Burke County in 1938. He was a retired farmer and a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Holland Phillips; a son, Bill Phillips and a daughter, Gladys Shaw. Survivors include two daughters, Helen Taylor of Millen and Jane Rogers of Waynesboro; four sons, Jerry Phillips, Bob Phillips and Joey Phillips, all of Waynesboro and Gene Phillips of Register; a brother, Leroy Sutherland of Fitzgerald; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Irby Coch-ran, Jack Rogers, Wayne Croc-kett, David Boggs, Ken English, J.L. Glisson and Bobby Posey. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Coursey, Ralph Dickey, Yank Lewis, Pee Wee Harper, John Sturdivant, Hugh Scott, Chris Collins, Dr. Lamar Murray, Otis Screws, Lee Carter, Darvin Deason and Betty Baily. Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.

James Anderson

James Anderson of Waynes-boro died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta. His funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Thompson Bridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Howard Harden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Anderson, a native of Chatham County, was a retired construction worker and had been employed with the Local 706 of Savannah. He was a member of Thompson Bridge Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Lacy Anderson of Waynesboro; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Lewis and Georgetta Herring-ton, both of Keysville; a brother, Leroy Anderson Jr.; his mother, Odessa Anderson of Bronx, N.Y.; and seven step-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Elliott Davis, Wesley Coleman, Richard Jenkins, Julius Lewis, Curtis Lewis and Josh Blackstone.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Iron Workers Local 709.

Steve Sturdivant

Steve Ronald Sturdivant, 45, of Waynesboro died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 from injuries substained in an automobile accident.
His funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Botsford Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens
Mr. Sturdivant was a Machinist and was a member of the Botsford Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Travis John Sturdivant of Waynesboro; a daughter, Ashley Lynn Sturdivant of Waynesboro; his mother, Peggy Sturdivant of Waynesboro; his father, John Sturdivant of Waynesboro; and two foster brothers, Donnie Palmer of Waynesboro and Edwin Palmer of Albany. Active pallbearers were James Flakes, Pete Quick, Wayne Cro-ckett, Van Lively Jr., Derossie DeLaigle Jr. and Ruben Rogers.

Minnie Lee Oliver

Minnie Lee Oliver, 78, of Girard died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at Beverly Manor Convalescent Home. Her funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Saint Marion Baptist Church in Girard, with the Rev. Solomon Bush officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Oliver was a native of Martin, S.C. She was a homemaker and a member of Saint Marion Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Carrie Burton and Beatrice Carter, both of Girard, Susie Scurry of Sylvania and Rose-anna Jones of Augusta; a sister, Mary Lou Day of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 23 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Darreck Phillips, Wesley Stewart, Robbie Carter Jr., Stanley Walker, Leonard Bonner, Horace Scurry and Terry Griffin.Hilliard Bell
Hilliard Bell of Waynesboro died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002 at Burke Medical Center.
His funeral was 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, with the Rev. A.L. Brown officiating. Burial was in the Bell Family Cemetery.
Mr. Bell, a native of Burke County, was a World War II veteran and a member of American Legion Post 270. He was a member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church where he was a choir member. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence H. Bell Sr. and Mary Bell of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were nephews and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church stewards.

Van Zandt Lively, Sr.

Van Zandt Lively Sr., 84, of Waynesboro died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at the Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. His funeral will be 3 p.m., today (Wednesday, Nov. 6), at Botsford Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Dixon, the Rev. Yonce Lively and Julian Lively officiating. Mr. Lively was a lifelong resident of Burke County, a retired machinist and was a member of Botsford Baptist Church. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a bus driver for the Waynesboro High School Athletic Department from 1958-1970. He served on the Burke County Recreation Commission. He was preceded in death by his wife Clara I. Lively.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice L. and Bill Sloan of Gainesville and Linda E. and Roy Wells of Plum Branch, S.C.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy D. and Polly Lively of Shell Bluff and Van Z. Lively, Jr. of Shell Bluff; a brother, Yonce T. Lively of Shell Bluff; five sisters, Katy Powell and Sevena Weis, both of Shell Bluff; Judy Dickey and Atta Wade, both of Ocala, Fla. and Octama Poole of Columbia, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Sloan and Bart Sloan, both of Atlanta; Brent and Diann Lively, both of Maple Heights, Ohio; Jennifer Lively of Charleston, S.C. and Vanessa Lively of Shell Bluff. Pallbearers will be Bill Lively, K.O. Lively, Jason Waldrop, Hugh Lively, Jr., Mike Lively, David Poole, Mike Weis, Johnny Barefield and Ben Dickey. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present deacons of Botsford Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Botsford Baptist Church, 825 Botsford Church Road, Waynesboro, Ga. 30830.

Randy G. Blount

Randy George Blount, 34, of Waynesboro died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. His funeral was 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at the DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Burke Memorial Gardens at a later date.Mr. Blount was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County. He had previously been employed by Mr. Golf Carts of Waynesboro, was a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Agerton Blount. Survivors include his father George Blount and his brother Harry E. Blount both of Waynesboro.

Christopher Maurice Young

Christopher Maurice Young, 25, of Waynesboro died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 in Columbia County. His funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Phinazee and Son Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald Whitehead officiating. Burial was in Pines Cemetery. Mr. Young, a native of Richmond County, was a former assembly line employee and had worked at Club Car for five years. He had attended Waynesboro High School. Survivors include his widow, Rosolyn Young; two daughters, Jasmine Young and Brianna Young, both of Augusta; a brother Michael Young of Augusta; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rafers Young of Waynesboro; and his grandmother, Lillie Bell Young of Waynesboro. Pallbearers were Donnell Jenkins, Grant Young, Sammy Jenkins, Rodney Young, Jeff Robinson, Demetrius Smith and Bennie Young.Eva Oliver Collins
Eva Oliver Collins, 89, of Metter died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at Candler County Hospital.
Her funeral was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Cedar Street Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jim Wilson and Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in the Lake Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins, a native of Screven County, had lived most of her life in Candler County. She retired as an inspector at Twin City Manufacturing Co. and was a member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church, the Mary Sunday School Class and the Golden Agers. She was the widow of John Harley Collins Sr. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and June Collins of Metter; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jo Nell and George Beasley of Midway, Linda and Joe Kirkland of Summerton and Andra Davis of Valdosta; a sister, Clara Bell McClain of Alexander; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Oliver of Metter; and 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ronnie Sikes, Buddy Meeks, Johnny Davis, Phil Turner, Herbert Crooms and Bobby Rigdon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Street Baptist Church.

Roy Arrington

Roy Arrington of Augusta died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.
His funeral was 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at Thomas Poteet and Son Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Wasiluk officiating. Mr. Arrington, a native of Louisville, had lived most of his life in Augusta. He was a 1943 graduate of Waynesboro High School and attended Georgia Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Nowell Bible Class and the Methodist Men’s Club. He was a member of Green Meadows Country Club and retired from the Augusta Coca-Cola Bottling Company as production manager after 35 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Roy Arrington and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William M. Arrington. Survivors include his widow, Mamie E. “Jean” Arrington of Augusta; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul E. and Carol Arrington of Dacula; two sisters, Mildred Rogers and Elsie Virginia Cros-by; and two grandchildren, William and MacKenzie Arrington. Pallbearers were Walter Harwood Sr., R.V. “Bobby” Baxter Jr., Bobby Reeves, Gerald King and Harold Mock. Memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church Building Fund, 439 Greene St., Augusta, Ga. 30901.

Willie J. Lewis

Willie J. Lewis of Waynesboro died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at Burke Medical Center.
Her funeral was noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Thomas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lewis, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she served as an usher for many years.
Survivors include 12 grandchildren including Donald Crawford, Willie Darlington and Patricia Norman, all of Waynesboro; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family friends. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Fellowship Baptist Church.

May Bell Baxley

May Bell Baxley died Wed-nesday, Nov. 6, 2002 in Atlanta.
Her funeral was 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Saint Paul Baptist Church in Girard, with the Rev. Kevin A. Bradfield officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Baxley, a native of Girard, was a homemaker. She was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star. Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law Thomas and Mary Baxley, Phillip Baxley and Sylvester Baxley; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Ruby Mae and Emery Duran, Mary Ruth and Abraham Bostic, Betty Jean and Jesse Robinson, Shirlene and Dock Fowler, Lavonia Braxton and Pearl Jefferson; and 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.

Robert A. McClain

Robert “Robbie” A. McClain, 36, of Waynesboro died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at his residence. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at the DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro, with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating.
Mr. McClain was a life long resident of Burke County and attended Botsford Baptist Church. He worked as a mobile home technician and a contract laborer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Bolton McClain.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Howard and Cleo McClain of Keysville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Hal and Stephanie McClain and Britt McClain, all of Waynesboro; his grandmother, Margaret Griner of Waynesboro; and a son; a stepson; and a daughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army 418 Greene St., Augusta, Ga. or to the charity of ones choice.
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 15, from 7-9 pm at DeLoach Funeral Home 842 Liberty St. in Waynesboro.
