Mary Doris Metts

Mrs. Mary Doris Metts, 78, of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away Monday, October 13, 2003, at her residence following a brief illness.

Mrs. Metts a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born January 16, 1925, the daughter of the late W.J. (Bill) and Margaret Pope English. She was a homemaker, a member of Hebron Baptist Church, Willacoochee, Ga., and the widow of the late Russell Metts.

Survivors include: one daughter, Brenda Metts Hampton and husband, Emmett, of Ambrose, Ga.; two sons, Russell L. Metts and wife, Joanne, of Douglas, Ga., and Daryl Jerome Metts and wife, Becky, of Willacoochee, Ga.; one sister, Ruby Waldron of Douglas, Ga.; four granddaughters, Renee Roberson and Rhonda Dorsey, both of Douglas, Ga., Misty Hayes of Alapaha, Ga., and Debbie Williamson of Gainesville, Ga.; three grandsons, Michael Hampton of Ambrose, Ga., and Marc Metts and Marty Hampton, both of Willacoochee, Ga.; eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at 3 p.m., at Hebron Baptist Church, Willacoochee, Ga., with Rev. Garvie Nichols and Rev. Bobby Fussell officiating. Donnie Smith gave the eulogy. Songs were "Sanctuary," "Bound for the Promise Land," and "Heaven's Jubilee," with Waunell Nichols accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the Hebron Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Michael Hampton, Marty Hampton, Marc Metts, Terry Roberson, Ricky Dorsey, amd Mose Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of Hebron Baptist Church.

James L. Paulk

Mr. James L. Paulk, 72, of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away on October 14, 2003, at ISH in St. Petersburg.

Mr. Paulk, a native of Irwin County, Ga., was born on June 30, 1931 the late Rev. William and Mattie McCoy Paulk.

Survivors include: Six daughters, Claretha Newsome (Milton) and Virginia Newton of Douglas, Ga., Dee Ridley and Shirley Paulk of Atlanta, Ga., Sherry Paulk of Miami, Fla., and Phyllis Paulk of Greensboro, NC; six sons, Timmie Paulk (Hazel), Otis Paulk, Kenneth Paulk (Sarah), David Paulk, all of Greensboro, N.C., Ben Paulk and James L. Paulk, Jr., of Sarasota, Fla.; three brothers, Clinton Paulk (Margaret), Ralph Paulk (Shirley), and Ben Williams; five sisters, Mytrice Jolley and Ollie Mae Rainey of St. Petersburg, Fla., Rachel Wiggins of Miami, Fla., Lucille Lockhart of Douglas, Ga., and LaVader Hill of Milwaukee, Wis.; several aunts, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 18, 2003 at noon, at Everette Chapel, C.M.E. in Douglas, Ga., with Rev. J. M. Miller and Rev. Milton Newsome, Jr., officiating. Interment followed at Paulk Cemetery in Irwin County, Ga.

Active Pallbearers were nephews Linton Tomblin, John H. Tomblin, Isaiah Ashley, Darrien Newton, Geneva Hawkins, Seaborn Rainey, Jr., Michael Newton, and Kent Paulk.

Honorary pallbearers were Dea. E. J. Smith, Dea. James Gaskin, Dea. Danny Jackson, Bro. George Wilson, Dea. Adolph Paulk, Dea. Dempsey Gooden, and Bro. Billy Tucker.

Harrell's Funeral Home of Douglas, Ga., was in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Willene Wright Kennerly

Mrs. Gladys W. Kennerly, 84, of Alma, Ga., passed away on October 14, 2003.

Mrs. Kennerly was a member of First African Baptist Church in Alma, Ga., where she was a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and member of Usher Board. She was a member of the Eastern Stars 494, retired cosmetologist, and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Robert and Elizabeth Gray Wright, and her husband, George E. Kennerly.

Survivors include: four daughters, Frances Kennerly of San Jose, Ca., Betty K. Greene (David) of Portsmouth, Va., Anita K. Johnson of Jonesboro, Ga., and Bernita K. Lewis of Alma, Ga.; one sister, Carrie Anderson of Cincinnati, Oh.; two sisters-in-law, Doris Benefield of Woodberry, N.J., and Mrs. Alma Hagins of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Hagins of Fort Myers, Fla., and Robert Jordan of Douglas, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Cassandra Deans (Chris), Valerie Henderson (James), Teresa Harris (Tyran), Pamala Tanner (Bill), Kimberly Greene, Elisha Harrell, Jamaal Johnson (Le), and Trey Lewis; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; very special friends and neighbors, James Tobler (Francis) and Willie Mae Welch; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

Funeral services were held at First African Baptist Church in Alma, Ga., with Rev. J. Stephen Deen officiating. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Alma, Ga.

Active Pallbearers were Ronald Hill, McKinley Hill, Jr.,

Trey Lewis, Jamaal Johnson, and Elisha Harrell.

Honorary pallbearers were First African Baptist Church Deacons and Deacons and Stewards of other churches.

Maggie Lee Patton Lowery

Mrs. Maggie Lee Patton Lowery, 91, of Meigs, Ga., passed away Friday, October 17, 2003, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Lowery, a native of Wheeler County, Ga., was born April 25, 1912, the daughter of the late Sallie White Patton and the late Charlie P. Patton. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late Ira Lowery.

Survivors include: one son, Bennie Lowery and wife, Vonnita, of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Gail Harnage and husband, Emory, of Meigs, Ga.; one brother, Dan Patton and wife, Willie, of McRae, Ga.; one sister, Liza Locke of McRae, Ga.; six grandchildren, Donnie Spires, Wayne Spires, Warren Spires, Darlene Moore, Tammy Metz, and Elkin Harnage; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2003, at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie, Ga., with Rev. Elkin Harnage and Rev. Curt McCullough officiating. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers were Tommy Livingston, Ferrell Holloway, Chris McPherson, Kenny Glass, Johnny Nixon, and Jimbo.

Cobb Funeral Chapel of Moultrie, Ga., was in charge of the arrangements.

Aaron W. 'A.W.' Adams, Jr.

Mr. Aaron W. "A.W." Adams, Jr., 66, of Douglas, Ga., passed away suddenly Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Adams, a native and life-long resident of Coffee County, Ga., was the son of the late Aaron W. Adams, Sr., and the late Mattie Mae Southerland Adams. He was a farmer, owned and operated Adams Sales and Service for many years, and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include: his wife, Carolyn Moore Adams of Douglas, Ga.; five children, Teresa Adams and Misti A. Hardy and husband, Mike, all of Martinez, Ga., Robin Adams and Nikki Adams, both of Douglas, Ga., and Judy A. Williams of Ambrose, Ga.; two sisters, Lounell Stallings of Broxton, Ga., and Joyce A. Moore of Douglas, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Jordan Adams of Douglas, Ga., Alex Williams, Doug Williams, Amber Williams, and Shannon Williams, all of Ambrose, Ga., and Chance Hardy of Martinez, Ga.; special friends, A.J. and Rhonda Saeed and children, Laila Saeed, Farrah Saeed, Laura Saeed, and Molly Saeed, all of Douglas, Ga.; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tara Adams, and five brothers, Dovine Adams, Lloyd Adams, Jack Adams, Rudolph Adams, and Virgil Adams.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 17, 2003, at 4 p.m., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Ray Way officiating. Soft musical selections, including "Because You Love Me" by Celine Deon on tape, were rendered. Interment followed in the Moore Cemetery, with Roger Lowery conducting the committal service.

Frank Augustus Anderson

Mr. Frank Augustus Anderson, 86, of West Green, Ga., passed away Saturday, October 18, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Ga., following a brief illness.

Mr. Anderson, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., was the son of the late George Augustus Anderson and the late Elizabeth Wilcox Anderson. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a chief machinist mate after 31 years of service. He also retired from the electrical department of the City of Jacksonville, Fla., after several years of service. Mr. Anderson was a member of West Green Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Florence Moore Anderson of West Green, Ga.; three daughters, Frankie L. Calendar and husband, Glenn, of Gardnerville, Nev., Deborah J. Gallahan of Cumming, Ga., and Joan Pridgen and husband, Michael, of Douglas, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Shane Russ and Derek Russ, both of Cumming, Ga., Donna Waldron of Callahan, Fla., Melissa Marshall of Los Molinas, Calif., Carmen Rowland of Tenn., and Rebecca Holton, Kesha Joyce and Leila Ramirez, all of Douglas, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relative.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at 5 p.m., at West Green Baptist Church, with Rev. Preston Moore and Rev. Wayne Hayes officiating. A special poem, "Never Forgotten," was presented by a great-granddaughter, Chelsea Waldron. Col. Donnie Courson, along with Jack Cathey and Horace LePress of the U.S. Coast Guard, presented the U.S. flag. Special musical selections included "Peace in the Valley" and "Prettiest Flowers" rendered by Paul Hutcheson, Derward Buchand, and pianist, Scott Roberts. Susan Kight, pianist, presented soft music for the prelude and postlude. Interment will follow at a later date.

Eli Manning Porter

Mr. Eli Manning Porter, 89, of Red Oak Street, Douglas, Ga., passed away Thursday, September 18, 2003, at home following an extended illness.

Mr. Porter, a native of Thomas County, Ga., was born June 23, 1914, the son of the late John Griffin and Celia Ann Dixon Porter. He retired after many years as Assistant Funeral Director at Sims Funeral Home, Inc., was formerly employed with Ralph Griffin Warehouse, Douglas Police Department, Coffee County Sheriff Department, and GA/FL Railroad.

Survivors include: his wife, Lila Smith Porter of Douglas, Ga.; one daughter, Margaret Morgan of Cotton, Ga.; two sons, L.C. Porter and wife, Elizabeth, of Blackshear, Ga., and Jerry Porter of Newark, Calif.; one son-in-law, Junior Merritt of Cotton, Ga.; one sister, Ruby Dale of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 21, 2003, 2 p.m., at Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Allen Peacock officiating. Faye Adams, Chris Purvis, and Carolyn Wright sang "Heaven Will Surely be Worth It All" and "Going Home," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano. A taped selection of "Pa Pa" was provided by The Kirkland Family. Burial followed at the Douglas City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Brian Sirmans, Michael Sirmans, Justin Porter, Christopher Cannon, and Bob Moore.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Nair, Dr. Bagwell, Dr. Patel, Hospice Personnel, Coffee Regional nurses: Nanette, Wilda Wright, Hazel Mancil, Sandra Marshburn, Michelle McDowell.

Lindsay Catherine Joyner

Miss Lindsay Catherine Joyner, 13, of Hillcrest Drive, Douglas, Ga., passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2003, as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.

Miss Joyner, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born November 11, 1989, the daughter of Michael David and Terri Lynn Lindsey Joyner. She was a 8th grade student at West Coffee Middle School, attended New Hope Baptist Church in Ambrose, Ga., and was an avid fan of the Florida Gators.

Survivors include: her parents, Michael and Terri Joyner of Douglas, Ga.; one brother, Michael Aaron Joyner of Douglas, Ga.; grandparents, Ruby and Tommy Jowers of Ambrose, Ga., and Kate and Johnny Wade of Pearson, Ga.; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Benny Joyner and James Lindsey.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at New Hope Baptist Church near Ambrose, Ga., with Rev. Joe Vaughn and Rev. Ernest Harper officiating. Soloist Dee Register sang, "The Anchor Holds," with Virginia Lewis accompanyin at the piano. Also her school friends provided a special song. Burial followed in the New Hope Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jason Joyner, Ellis Williams, Jamie Williams, Andy Jowers, Trevor Jowers, and Jessie Sutton.

Honorary pallbearers were classmates and friends of West Coffee Middle School.

Latrelle Harris Hall Meeks

Mrs. Latrelle Harris Hall Meeks, 83, of June Avenue, Douglas, Ga., passed away on Monday, September 22, 2003, at home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Meeks, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born May 6, 1920, the daughter of the late Wyatt and Lillian Goodyear Harris. She was a retired Douglas city clerk and bank clerk, the widow of the late W. C. (Charles) Meeks, and a member of First United Methodist Church and the UMW.

Survivors: two sons, Jim Hall and Mac Hall, both of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Bryan Hall, Rusty Hall, Darren Hall, and Tyler Hall; three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Douglas City Cemetery, Douglas, Ga., with Joe Day, Lawrence Day, and Jack Cribbs officiating.

Active pallbearers were Joe Day, Lawrence Day, Ron Willis, Jack Cribbs, Darrell Tucker, and Jimmy Ray Fussell.

Honorary pallbearers were Mack and Louise McCrary, Adrian and Frances Jardine, and R. L. and Frances O'Steen.

Frank Allen White

Mr. Frank Allen White, 86, of Nicholls, Ga., passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2003, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga.

Mr. White, a native of Windsor County, Ver., was born September 24, 1916, the son of the late Wadell Allen and Annie Dameron White. He was the widower of the late Margaret Ethel Kirkland White, a retired brick mason, and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII and the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include: three sons, Frank White, Jr., of Cumming, Ga., John White of Atlanta, Ga., and David White of Nicholls, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Heather Preston, Jennifer Pearce, Kelsey White, Christy Metts, Greg Dunagan, Zach White, Adam White, Carey White, and Billy Murphy; one great-grandson, Montgomery Preston. Mr. White was preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher David White.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 24, 2003, 11 a.m., at Saginaw Baptist Church, with Rev. Donnie Kirkland and Rev. Herbert Box officiating. Soloist Liz Kirkland sang "Amazing Grace," with Iris McElhaney providing soft music for the prelude and postlude. Also a taped selection of "I Saw The Light" by Hank Williams was provided. Burial followed in the Saginaw Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Gary Holton, Dwane Wilcox, Jimmy Kirkland, James Carver, and Dan Tanner.

Willie Corbitt Brooker

Mrs.Willie Corbitt Brooker, 86, of Douglas Hwy., Pearson, Ga., passed away on Monday, September 29, 2003, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas Ga.

Mrs. Brooker, a native of Atkinson County, Ga., was born November 2, 1916, and the widow of the late B. B. Brooker.

Survivors include: two sons, Bruce B. Brooker of Douglas, Ga., and Burnell and wife, Pam Brooker of Richmond Hill, Ga.; daughter, Ann Brooker and husband, Pete Eldridge of Waycross, Ga.; two sisters, Vicey Youngblood of Pearson, Ga., and Lerah Roberts of Douglas, Ga.; brother, Morrison Corbitt of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Brooke E. Eldridge, Katelyn M. Brooker, Jessilee G. Brooker, Bobbee B. Brooker, Mathew Dean Brooker, Joel Michael Brooker and Frank Schley Eldridge, IV.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 2, 2003, at 11 a.m., at New Harmony Grove Church in Atkinson County, Ga. Internment followed in the New Harmony Grove Cemetery.

Judy Corbitt

Miss Judy Corbitt, 54, of Douglas, Ga., passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at the home of her sister following an extended illness.

Miss Corbitt a native of Atkinson county, Ga., was born July 8, 1948 the daughter of the late Clyde, Sr., and Beadie Burch Corbitt. She was a homemaker and had worked as a machine operator at various sewing factories before her retirement.

Survivors include: one sister, Christine Gurley and husband, Elden of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Rowen Corbitt of Atkinson, Ga., Jimmy Corbitt and wife, Jill of Douglas, Ga.; sister-in-law, Guanda Corbitt of Axson, Ga.; brother-in-law, Cliff Spikes of Pearson, Ga., She was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Corbitt, Jr., and three sisters, Helen Corbitt, Frankie Adams, and Lillian Spikes. Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 25, 2003, at 11 a.m., at the Axson Church of God of Prophecy, with Rev. Newton Cox and Rev. Rob Chavis officiating. Special music, "Bowed On My Knees And Cried Holy" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain," was provided by Tammy Wood with taped accompaniment. Brad Courson, pianist, provided soft music for the prelude and postlude. Interment followed in the Antioch Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Darwin Corbitt, Devin Corbitt, David Corbitt, Steve Adams, Joseph Gurley, and Buddy McQuaig.

Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga., was in charge of the arrangements.

Gregory David 'Bubba' Harrell

Mr. Gregory David "Bubba" Harrell, 19, of Adams Lane, Nicholls, Ga., passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2003, at home following an extended illness.

Survivors include: his parents Greg and Tina Harrell of Nicholls, Ga.; one sister, Diona Harris of Nicholls, Ga.; one brother Andrew David Harrell of Nicholls Ga.; grandparents, Diane and Jimmy Wooten of Nicholls, Ga., David and Kathy Harrell of Jesup, Ga., Jackie and Donald Wallace and Lamar and Doreen Parker, all of Albany, Ga.; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 30, 2003, 2 p.m., at Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wendell Harrell officiating. Diona Harrell Harris read a poem. Lois Mills, pianist, provided soft music for the prelude and postlude. Special taped selections of "One More Day," "One Sweet Day," "Remember Me This Way," and "Go Rest High On that Mountain" were provided. Burial followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Lamar Parker, David Harrell, Kyle Bechum, Michael King, Ricky Dekle, and Christopher Bechum.
