Jalen Randy Scott
Jalen Randy Scott, 15 months, of Waynesboro died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at his residence. His funeral was 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Rock Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wade Scott Sr. officiating. Burial was in Pines Cemetery.
Jalen Randy was a native of Burke County. Survivors include his parents Telisa Jordon and Randolph Scott; seven brothers, Javontae Jordan, Quantavious Jordan and Zetavious Bennett, all of Waynesboro, Peter Moore and Fredrick Moore, both of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Brandon Scott and Shaquille O’Neal, both of Barnwell, S.C.; his grandparents, Geraldine Payton of Daytona Beach, Jacqueline Jordan of Waynesboro, Willie Jordan III of Waynesboro and the Rev. Wade Scott Sr. of Williston, S.C.; and great-grandmother, Lizzie Irvin of Waynesboro.
Pallbearers were Peter Moore, Fredrick Moore, Aljernun Jordan and Bernard Jordan.
Duffie Williams
Duffie Williams died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at Burke Medical Center.
His funeral was 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Beechwood Baptist Church, with the Revs. R.L. Stephens and Joe Lewis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Williams, a native of Burke County, was a retired plant operator and had been employed with the City of Miami for 37 years. He moved to Goulds, Fla., in 1939 and returned to Hephzibah in 1982. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Virginia Williams; a brother, Homer Williams of Coconut Grove, Fla.; and two sisters, Ceola Mack of Fort Pierce, Fla. and Elizabeth Chance of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and four grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Lewis, Phil Lewis, Homer Williams, Marshall Walker, Bob Pettaway and Clarence Sapp.
Johnny A. Dukes Sr.
Johnny Albert Dukes Sr. died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at Burke Medical Center.
His funeral was 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Asbury United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Essie Simmons officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Dukes was a native of Burke County. He was a machine operator and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, Johnny Dukes Jr., Joshua Dukes and Travis Dukes, all of Waynesboro; three brothers, Carl Dukes Sr. and Michael Dukes, both of Waynesboro, and Ray Dukes Sr. of Boston, Mass.; three sisters, Barbara Patterson, Janie Philpot and Joann Chandler, all of Waynesboro; his mother, Alma Dukes of Waynesboro; and a grandchild.
Pallbearers were nephews and friends.
Mae Jewell Tinley
Mae Jewell Tinley, 88, of Waynesboro died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. Her funeral was 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, with Dr. Al Wright and the Rev. Harold Rowland officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Tinley was born in Lumberton, Miss., and had been a resident of Burke County for over 60 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Home Improvement club. She retired from the First National Bank as head bank teller, where she was employed for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawton E. Tinley Jr. and her daughter, Jewell Ann Tinley Jenkins. Survivors include a son, Lawton E. Tinley III of Fitz-gerald; a sister, Marjorie Story of North Augusta, S.C.; five grandchildren, Mallory Tinley of Fitzgerald, Meredith Tinley Sherril of Alpharetta, and Paige Phillips DuMars, Gene Jenkins Jr. and Chad Jenkins, all of Waynesboro; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lewis Tinley, Henry Tinley, Billy Tinley, Jimmy Tinley, Gene Jenkins, Greg Coursey, Jimmy Richardson and Bill Tinley. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 853 N. Liberty St., Waynesboro, Ga. 30830.
Valerie Trimmier
Valerie Smith Trimmier of Augusta died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002.
Her funeral was 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at Poteet Funeral Home South Chapel, with the Rev. Max Hicks officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Trimmier, a native of Statesboro, was a homemaker and a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion Post #178. Survivors include her widower, Benjamin Trimmier; a son, John W. Boland of Sardis; a daughter, Rachel M. Gordon of Augusta; a sister, Sylvia Barnes of Augusta; her mother, Myrtle H. Smith of Augusta; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were John Landis, Lester Hurlston, Kenny Mixon, General Pope, John McGuire and Bill Zimmerman.
Mattie Simmons
Mattie Simmons, 103, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at Burke Medical Center.
Her funeral was 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 17, at Bark Camp Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Bush officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miss Simmons, a native of Washington County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Bark Camp Baptist Church. Survivors include two nieces, Jannie Lewis and Elizabeth Allen, both of Waynesboro; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were her nephews.
Hope Dawn Hillis
Hope Dawn Hillis, 8 weeks old, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Her funeral was 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Waynesboro Church of God, with the Revs. Joey Grizzle and Bill King officiating. Burial was at the Corinth Christian Church Cemetery in Girard. Survivors include her parents, Calvin and Brandie Hillis of Waynesboro; her twin sister, Faith Ann Hillis and three other sisters, Rebekah, Charlie and DeLanah; two brothers Austin and Calvin Coolidge Hillis, all of Waynesboro; maternal grandparents, Robert and Molly Hamilton and Gail and Ray Newman, all of Waynesboro; paternal grandmother, Ruby Beasley of Sardis; and great-grandparents, Josey and Johnny Usry of Grovetown and Loretta Rose of Bristol, Tenn.
Pallbearers were Dr. Mark Gresham, Jerome Dixon, Clifford Banks and Glenn Atkinson.
Florine Fowler
Florine Fowler died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002.
Her funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Foster Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ricky Eason officiating. Mrs. Fowler, a native of Roebuck, S.C., was a retired teacher. She began her teaching career at Emmit Scott in Rock Hill, S.C. and also taught at Blakeney Elementary School in Waynes-boro, teaching for a combined total of 45 years. She received a bachelor of science degree from Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. and did additional course work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William and Bridgette Fowler of Augusta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra R. Fowler of Alexandria, Va. and Jennifer and Preston Tutt of Harlem; two brothers, Homer Edward Brewton of Cleveland, Ohio and Phillip Brewton of Fort Valley; and four sisters, Martha J. Holloway of Sharon, Pa., Annie G. Sweetenburg of Moore, S.C., Marie Darling of Waynesboro and Vealma Brewton; and seven grandchildren.
Pearlie Loren
Pearlie Sellers Loren, 82, of Waynesboro, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Her funeral was 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at DeLoach Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial was at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Loren was a native of Jefferson County but had lived her adult life in Burke County. She retired from Keller Aluminum Industries of Waynesboro, was a Baptist and member of the Hopeful Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L. Loren; a son, James Loren and a daughter, Sarah Loren Newman.
Survivors include two sons, Harvey L. Loren and Raymond Loren, both of Waynesboro; a daughter, Vivian Ledbetter of Grovetown; a sister, Mary Rick-erson of Augusta; and 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren Pallbearers were Lester Bee-land, Anthony Lewis Jr., Mike Mobley, Johnnie Simmons Jr., Larry Holbert, Randy Wheeler, Raymond Edenfield, Tim Still and Douglas James. Honorary Pallbearers were Allen and Brannon Tootle.
Annie M. Scott
Annie M. Scott died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at University Hospital, Augusta.
Her funeral was 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Bark Camp Baptist Church, with the Rev. Baker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Scott was a native of Burke County. She was a homemaker. A survivor is a nephew, James Harden.
Willie Kettles
Willie Kettles, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at Doctors Hospital, Augusta.
His funeral will be noon Saturday, Nov. 23, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Repast will follow at the Burke County Senior Citizens Center at 717 W. 6th St., Waynes-boro. Mr. Kettles, a native of Burke County, had worked for the Augusta Housing Authority. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Waynesboro.
Survivors include three sons, Donnie Kettles, Tyrone Kettles and Kevin Walker; a brother, Sylvester Kettles of Ft. Washington, Md.; a sister, Lillie Off-ley of Randolph, Mass.; and his mother, Georgia Kettles of Way-nesboro. Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Wake service will be held Friday, Nov. 22, 6-7 p.m. at Phin-azee and Son Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
Bobby Watts
Bobby Watts, 67, of Keysville died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002 at his residence.
Gravesides services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Keys-ville Methodist Cemetery, with Brother George S. Lauderdale officiating. Mr. Watts, a native of Twin City, was retired from the Granite Construction Company in Seaside, Calif., where he was foreman of a paving crew. After his retirement in 1988, he resided in Keysville. He was a U.S. Army veteran, served in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his widow, Kathy Bailey Watts of Keysville; two sons, Bobby Watts II of Waynesboro and Gary Haedrich of Seaside; two daughters, Mary L. Villagrana of Seaside and Kara A. Harlow of Irmo, S.C.; four sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Williams and Maryruth Watts, both of Hephzibah, Margie Tudor of Conyers and Wilma Smith of Martinez; two brothers, Bill Watts and Buddy Watts, both of Hephzibah; his mother, Mary Skinner Watts of Keysville; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday, Nov. 27) from 6-8 p.m. at DeLoach Funeral Home, Inc., 2546 Highway 88, Hephzibah, Ga.
