Charles E. Perry, Sr.
Charles E. Perry Sr. of Midville died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at his residence.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at Midville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Norma Jean Thomas and Larry Sauls officiating. Mr. Perry was a Medical College of Georgia body donor. Mr. Perry, a native of Rebecca, had retired in 2001 as an agricultural economist and superintendent of the Southeast Georgia Branch Agricultural Experiment Station at Midville, with the University of Georgia. He was a member of Midville United Methodist Church, the Midville Lyons Club, the Masonic Lodge and president of the Midville Industrial Development Authority. He served as a board member of the Burke County Board of Education and the Jefferson Electric Membership Cooperative board of directors. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Anne Waters Perry. Survivors include a son, Char-les Perry Jr. of Midville; three daughters, Connie Page of Kite, Cathy Holcombe of Cumming and Cindy Pugtiano of States-boro; a sister, Jo Ann Shivers of Ashburn; and eight grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Morris Green, Hogarth Sand-eford, James Byrd Elanders, John Mulling and George Holloway. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anne W. John Willie Ellison
John Willie Ellison of Way-nesboro died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta. His funeral was 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at William Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. B. Austin, Roosevelt Anthony and C. Poole officiating.
Mr. Ellison attended the Burke County schools. Survivors include his widow, Lollie M. Ellison of Waynes-boro; four sons and four daughters-in-law, John and Ella Ellison of Miami, Charles and Alric Ellison of Hollywood, Fla., Eddie and Vera Walker and Kenneth and Deana Walker, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; six daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson of Maryland, Inez Ellison of Miami, Barbara Walker of Jacksonville, Fla., Clara and Ralph Pratt of Key Largo, Fla., Rosa Walker of Jacksonville, Fla. and Tonia Harrison of Waynesboro; a sister, Kay Rouse of Waynesboro; mother-in-law, Pastor Rachel Walker of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walter Aaron Evans of Philadelphia died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 in Philadelphia.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 8), at First Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Hephzibah, with the Rev. Moses D. Anderson officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Aaron Evans and Michael Evans, both of Philadelphia; three daughters, Melony Evans, Levette Evans and Cynthia Evans, all of Philadelphia; a brother, John C. Fagin of Kileen, Texas; and three sisters, Verrel J. Moore of Waynesboro, Margarette Berry of Philadelphia and Deborah Campbell of Hartsville, S.C.
Pallbearers were family friends.
Jack Yearty
John “Jack” Morgan Yearty, 65, of Waynesboro died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. His funeral will be 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 8), at the First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, with the Rev. Tré Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta. Mr. Yearty was a golf pro and a member of the Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro and the Ponderosa Country Club in Batesburg, S.C. He was an avid sportsman and golfer and had resided in Waynesboro since 1979. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro.
Survivors include a daughter, Robin Yearly Baxley of Waynesboro; three sons, John “Morgan” Yearty II of Savannah, Chuck Ellis of Augusta and Todd Morgan Yearty of Louisville; two brothers, Joe Yearty of Augusta and Charles Yearty of Hartsville, S.C.; a sister, Anne Gojda of Augusta; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott Gay, Keith Gojda, Bud North, Eugene Gojda, Wayne Cochran, Spencer Ready and Jerry Brookins.
Kandi Mosley
Deborah K. “Kandi” Mosley of Sardis died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at her residence.
Her funeral was 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30, at Habersham United Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Ms. Mosley was preceded in death by her mother, Frances C. Sherrod. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick K. and Debra Fletcher of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Kevin D. and Michelle Fletcher of Midwest City, Okla.; a daughter, Dana M. Fletcher of San Antonio; her father, Clifford W. Sherrod of Sar-dis; and a sister, Geri Saunders of Douglasville.
Rev. Charlie L. Lambert
Rev. Charlie L. Lambert of Waynesboro died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003.
His funeral was 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at New Springfield Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joseph B. Williams Sr. and Willie B. Tomlin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Lambert, a native of Burke County, was a minister. He was a member of New Springfield Baptist Church, where he served in various capacities, and throughout the county Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Charlie James Lambert of Alamo, Ga., Tracey Lambert of Lauderhill, Fla. and Mike and Cecelia Lambert of Augusta; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Larry Gibson, both of Way-nesboro; a goddaughter, Mary Bostic; mother-in-law, Addie Whitfield; and 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were the Revs. E. Blueford, J. Clarke, I. Culbreth, F. Sharpe, J.J. Smith and J. Thomas.

Boysie Scott Sr.
Boysie Scott Sr. of Waynesboro died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at Burke Medical Center.
His funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at Allen Chapel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Seymore Harrison Sr., Berry Rogers, Charlie Howard Sr., Claude C. Howard, Eddie Fryer, Robert Lynch and Robert Rouse officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Scott, a native of Burke County, was a retired truck driver and former employee of Georgia Pacific. He was a member of Daniel Grove Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member. Survivors include his widow, Melrose Lynch Scott; seven sons, Boysie Scott Jr., William Scott, Ralph Scott, Melvin Scott, Ricky Scott, John Scott and Michael Scott, all of Waynes-boro; five daughters, Bertha Harris, Katie Freeman and Rosa Dukes, all of Waynesboro, Brenda Willis of Fayetteville, N.C. and Lottie Lovett of Society Hill, S.C.; four sisters, Willie Mae Rouse, Minnie Lee Perry and Essie Mae Carter, all of Augusta and Sarah Scott of Way-nesboro; mother-in-law, Lottie Cunningham of Waynesboro; and 42 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Frank Wallace
Frank Wallace, 73, of Augusta died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Augusta. His funeral will be 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 8), at Pine Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Driggers officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Mr. Wallace, a native of Richmond County, was a retired plumber. Survivors include his widow, Velma M. Wallace; a stepson, Larry Crawford of Augusta; a brother, Richard Wallace of Augusta; three sisters, Margaret Wright of Augusta, Mattie Prince of Modoc, S.C. and Sally Kersey of Trenton, S.C.; and five grandchildren. Sadie H. Blackburn
Sadie Mae Hurst Blackburn, 84, of Sardis died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003.
Her funeral was 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Big Horse Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Blackburn was a homemaker and member of the Big Horse Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leroy Blackburn Sr. Survivors include three sons, J. L. Blackburn Jr., Jack Black-burn and Lewis Blackburn, all of Sardis; two daughters, Mildred Reddick of Sardis and Helen Sings of Garden City; a sister, Maude Ellison of Sardis; and 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Kathleen C. Cates
Kathleen C. Cates, 96, of Waynesboro died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Burke County Hospital.Graveside services were 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, at Magnolia Cemetery in Waynesboro, with Dr. Al Wright and the Rev. Harold Rowland officiating.
Mrs. Cates, a native of Calhoun County, S.C., was a member of First Baptist Church in Waynesboro and the Eastern Star. She retired from the First national Bank, after 35 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Cates Sr., and her parents, Thomas R. Chaplain and Allie Graves Chaplain. Survivors include her son, Thomas B. Cates Jr. of Waynes-boro; a granddaughter, Kathy C. Daniel and her husband, Tim of Athens; two grandsons, Ben Santana and Miguel Santana, both of Orlando, Fla.; and three great grandchildren, Katee Daniel, Mary Margaret Daniel and Donte Santana. Eugene F. Grimm
Eugene Franklin Grimm, 56, of Elizabethtown, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at Wes-ley’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. David Linton officiating. Mr. Grimm, formerly of Millen, had served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and worked with the railroad in Georgia prior to medical retirement as a result of an injury. Survivors include his widow, Mary Ann Grimm of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Gladys Frazier of Bladenboro, N.C. and Ada Ruth Jenkins of Statesboro; nine stepchildren; and 15 grandchildren.
James Higginbottom
James Higginbottom, 70, of Dearing died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003 at his residence.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 15), in the Curtis Home Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Patricia Reuss officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. in the St. Mich-ael’s Episcopal Church cinerarium in Waynesboro.
Mr. Higginbottom, a native of Tyronzia, Ark., had lived in Dearing for many years. He was a member of the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge of Augusta. He served with the Thomson Police Department for five years. He was a retired Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army.Survivors include his widow, Alice Higginbottom of Dearing; two sons, James Robert Higgin-bottom of Martinez and Christopher Niel Higginbottom of Dearing; two daughters, Cynthia Lynn Rhodes of Waynesboro and Kimberly Ann Harbin of Cairo; two brothers, Shelby Higginbottom of Alabama and Kenneth Higginbottom of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Mar-cella Higginbottom, Patsy Higginbottom and Bonnie Higginbottom, all of Little Rock, Ark.; and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Hospice or the Audubon Society.
R.L. Bishop
R.L. Bishop died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003 at University Hospital in Augusta.
His funeral was 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with the Rev. Clarence A. Thompson officiating. Burial was 4 p.m. in Swainsboro City Cemetery.Mr. Bishop was a native of Swainsboro, but lived in Heph-zibah most of his life. He retired as a salesman for Augusta Tool and Specialty after 31 years of service. He was a Baptist and a former member of Briar Creek Hunting Club.
Survivors include his widow, Linda Flanders Bishop of Waynesboro; two sons, Michael Leon Bishop of Waynesboro and Christopher Jason Bishop of Statesboro; a daughter, Christie McElmurray of Hephzibah; three sisters, Virginia Chavous of Evans, Gail Lackey of Savannah and Joyce Bradley of Dillsboro, Ind.; his father-in-law, Morris Lee “Bud” Flanders of Swainsboro; and six grandchildren, Joshua Bishop, Tori Bish-op, Brittany Brannen, Brandi Brannen, Logan McElmurray and Cody McElmurray.
