Mrs. Frances C. Deakin, wife of Bruce K. Deakin, of Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City, died August 9, 1999 at the Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Mrs. Deakin was born June 30, 1922 in LaGrange, Ga. to the late Mr. and Mrs. John A. Carley.
A service will be held in her memory on Sunday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newnan. The Rev. Gary Parrish will officiate.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce K. Deakin; daughters, Cathy Saxton, Gail Teuscher and Anne James; son, Bruce K. Deakin Jr.; brothers, John and Bill Carley; five grandchildren.

Mr. Joseph Thomas "Tommy" Hicks, 58, of Luthersville, died Saturday, August 7, 1999 at his residence.
Mr. Hicks was born Dec. 31, 1940 in Lithonia, son of the late Joseph Felton Hicks and the late Dorothy Hamby Hicks. He had lived at Luthersville since 1973, was a member of the Baptist faith, and retired as a supervisor from Ralston-Purina Company in Fairburn.
A funeral was held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9 at the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Jim Martin officated and burial was in Luthersville Cemetery.

Mrs. Holsombeck was born May 24, 1923 in Heard County, Ga. to Jessie Virgil Striplin and Myrtle Carroll Striplin. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church.

At an early age she joined the Bethel Heard Baptist Church in Franklin, Ga. where she served as secretary of the Building Aide Convention for many years. She married Oct. 30, 1930 to the late Willie J. Lynch Sr. They had eight children, six sons and two daughters. Both became members of the Saint Smyrna Baptist Church. She served faithfully as treasurer of the Missionary Society, on the Mother Board and as a Ward Captain.
A funeral was Wednesday, Aug. 11 at St. Smyrna Baptist Church. The Rev. J. W. Russell Jr., pastor, officiated; the Rev. E. F. Collier was eulogist; and assisting were the Rev. W. J. Johnson and the Rev. Felton James.
Burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Newnan. Honorary pallbearers were the St. Smyrna Board of Deacons. Active pallbearers were Nathaniel Strickland, Kerwen D. Whatley, Timothy Strickland, Byron Whatley, Antonio Lynch, Maurice Godfrey and Marcus Satterwhite.

Mr. Smith was born in Coweta County, son of the late L. B. Smith and the late Mary Love Miller Smith. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. He regularly attended the Music Barn in Williamson. He was retired from Highland Mills.

Mrs. Nelle Johnson Andrews, 82, of Columbus, Ga. died Monday, August 9, 1999 at St. Francis Hospital.
Mrs. Andrews was the youngest of twelve children born to the late Egbert Daniel and Mary Kate Walker Johnson on May 4, 1917 in Newnan, Ga. She grew up in Newnan and attended Newnan High School. She spent most of her adult life as a resident of Columbus, Ga. after marrying Lester H. Andrews May 1, 1938. She was a member of Sherwood United Methodist Church.
A funeral was held at graveside Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999 at the chapel of The Pines Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Lester H. Andrews of Columbus, Ga.; son, William L. Andrews and his wife Norah Andrews of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen A. and Randy H. Mrs. Vertis Lee Arnold Grimes of Newnan, died August 9, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Grimes was born March 25, 1912 in Coweta County. A member of Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church, she was a member of the United Methodist Women and a communion steward.
She received her early education in the Newnan public school system, attended Forsyth Teachers College and Atlanta University, then received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Fort Valley State College. She was chosen Teacher of the Year at Northside School, and retired after 40 years of service in the Coweta County School System. She was a mentor and Girl Scout leader, taught Vacation Bible School, and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
A funeral was August 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hulon Kemp officiating, assisted by the Rev. R. W. Sutton, the Rev. Harvey Palmer and other ministers. Burial was in Eastview Cemetery in Newnan. The United Methodist Men served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Hammett was a native of Newnan, Ga. and had lived in Lake Lure, N.C. for many years prior to moving to Hendersonville. She was the daughter of the late Bryan M. and Ruth Cole Blackburn, and wife of the late Harry T. Hammett who died in 1988. She was a member of the Chimney Rock Baptist Church.

Mr. Delmar Galloway, 74, of Port Orange, Florida, and a native of Hogansville, died Saturday, August 14, 1999 at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
A funeral will be noon Thursday, August 19 at graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with full military honors. The Rev. Talmadge Chandler will officiate.
Mr. Galloway was born Nov. 26, 1924 in Hogansville, son of the late Thomas and Lucile Clifton Galloway. He retired as a staff sergeant from the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of World War Two. A former resident of Louisiana, he had lived in Port Orange since 1998.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jean Green Galloway of Port Orange; sons, Dell Galloway of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Guy Galloway of California, and Scott Moir of Port Orange; daughters, Mrs. Kerry Nations of Port Orange and Mrs. Vickie Smith of Louisiana; sisters, Mrs. Eva Nichols of Hogansville and Miss Lillian Galloway of Conyers; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mr. William John Gerstenmaier
Mr. William J. "Bill" Gerstenmaier of Cannon Road, Sharpsburg, formerly of Salisbury, Maryland, died August 15, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Gerstenmaier was born August 7, 1926 in Danbury, Connecticut, the only child of Ida and J. William Gerstenmaier. He attended Danbury High School, graduating in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46, after which he attended Yale University, graduating in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He was a design engineer for Dresser Industries from 1960-1988, when he retired. Mr. Gerstenmaier was an inventor and holder of several patent rights, among them automated gas pumps.
He was a private pilot, and was known for his love of flying, and his wonderful sense of humor. He was a mentor of young people, and a member of Living Word Church.
He is survivied by Betty Waterhouse Gerstenmaier, his wife of 49 years; son, William Jon Gerstenmaier of New York City; daughter and son-in-law, Mark A. and Daryl G. Rowe of Sharpsburg; son and daughter-in-law, Eric J. and Arlene R. Gerstenmaier of Girdletree, Maryland; four grandchildren, Ryan and Laura Gerstenmaier and Austin and Nathan Rowe.
A memorial service will be held at Living Word Church, 142 Cannon Rd., Sharpsburg, Georgia at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18. At the request of Mr. Gerstenmaier, his body was donated to Emory University Medical School.

Mr. Houze was born June 17, 1924 in Rock Mills, Ala. He was retired as service manager at Newnan Motor Company and was a vetern of the U.S. armed forces.

Mrs. Louise Phelps Wade
Mrs. Louise Phelps Wade of Westport, Connecticut, died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Mediplex of Westport after a long illness. She was 99 years old.
Mrs. Wade was born in Nashville, Tennessee and lived 60 years in Jacksonville, Florida with her first husband, the late Norwood Phelps, where whe was widely known for her work in civic and church activities. She was the first woman to speak from the pulpit of the First Presbyterian Church there and was a delegate to the 1954 World Council of Churches meeting in India.
A avid traveller, Mrs. Wade visited missionary outposts throughout the world for the United Presbyterian Church over a 30-year period. During the administration of Lyndon Johnson, she spent some months in Russia as part of that administration's Citizens Exchange Program.
In 1980, Mrs. Wade was chosen "Most Outstanding Citizen" of Jacksonville, Fla. for her contributions to civic, civil rights, educational and religious causes. At 80 years of age, she was president of the Woman's Club of Jacksonville.
After marrying Leland Wade, she came to Westport in 1984 and was a member of the Saugatuck Congregational Church, the Westport Historical Society, and the Woman's Club of Westport. She served on the governing board of the library of Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a niece, Alice Beavers of Newnan, Ga., and two grandnieces, Louise Williams and Love Williams of Newnan.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be sent to the Saugatuck Congregational Church or the Woman's Club of Westport.

Mr. Earlie Lee Cohran Sr., 89, of Flowers Drive, Douglasville, Ga., died Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at the ATP Northside Nursing Home in Atlanta.
Mr. Cohran was born October 2, 1909 in Paulding County, Ga., son of the late Mr. Benjamin Franklin Cohran and the late Mrs. Armandy Marlow Cohran. Mr. Cohran was a farmer for 30 years and later a carpenter, and was a member of the Church of God in Douglasville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Benjamin Franklin Cohran; two brothers, Joe Cohran and Lenny Cohran; and one sister, Ola Hicks.

Dr. Raymond Melbourne Smith, 74 of Newnan, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died Aug. 20, 1999 at Vencore Hospital in Atlanta.
Dr. Smith, a World War II naval officer, was a retired college professor who taught physics and electrical engineering after receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. Prior to teaching college, Dr. Smith was involved with the space program, working on several aeronautical projects.

He was a member of Kennesaw Masonic Lodge #33. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church.

She was born August 11, 1913 in Heard County, Ga., the eldest of three daughters to Arthur (Dock) and Elizabeth Crain. Recently, one sister, Mrs. Mattie Ruth Lynch, preceded her in death.
She was a dedicated member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Newnan where she served faithfully on the Mother Board.
A funeral was Saturday, August 21 at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev Felton James, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. W. J. Johnson, the Rev. R. W. Sutton, the Rev. Rufus Smith and the Rev. Charles Campbell.

A funeral was held Aug. 29 at McKoon Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Adams, John Orr and Randy Gravett officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery with Joe Avery, Sammy Avery, Chris Floyd, Luke Floyd, Chris Musick and Billy Quick serving as pallbearers.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Floyd of Newnan; daughters, Nancy (Gene) Alford and Anne (Ronald) Musick, both of Newnan; son, Carlton (Libby) Floyd of Newnan; sisters, Tommie Avery, Barbara Robertson and Bessie Thompson, all of Newnan, and Nell Doggett of Daleville, Ala.; brother, Robert Grimes of Woodstock; grandchildren, Scott Alford, Ben Floyd, Chris Floyd, Luke Floyd, Chris Musick and Pam Quick; great-grandchildren, Garrett Floyd, Rebecca Floyd and Makayla Quick.

Kristina Ann McElwaney died at birth on Aug. 29, 1999 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.
The funeral will be held Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Lee and Rev. James Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Wayne Blue, Allen Turnipseed, Benny Coker and Steven Crawford as pallbearers.
Visitation will be today (Aug. 31) from 6-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.
Survivors include her parents, Eddie and Kathy McElwaney; sisters, Christy and Kristin McElwaney of Whitesburg; maternal grandparents, Daniel and Clara Watts of Whitesburg; and paternal grandparents, Leroy and Shirley Pearson of Ellenwood.
