Mrs. Myrtle Chase, 84, of Carrollton died Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at Tanner Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Mrs. Chase, formerly of Newnan, was born in Carrollton Feb. 15, 1915. She was a retired homemaker and member of New Lebanon Baptist Church in Newnan. Preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years, Herschel K. Chase.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 1 from 6-9 p.m.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mr. Benon "Bill" Howard
Mr. Benon "Bill" Howard, 70, of LaGrange Street, Newnan, died Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at his residence.
Mr. Howard was born Dec. 27, 1928 in Meriwether County. He was retired, having worked as a fireman for the City of Riverdale. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War. He was a member of Forest Park Lodge 399, F&AM.
A funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. The Rev. Melvin Payne will officiate, and burial will be in Southview Cemetery in Moreland. Pallbearers will be members of the Riverdale Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Howrd of Newnan; daughter, Diane Andrews of Riverdale; son, Terry Howard of Griffin; 2 grandchildren.

Mrs. Cavender was born August 26, 1930. She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. John Hood, 91, of Newnan, died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at his residence.
Mr. Hood was born August 30, 1908 and was retired from Coweta-Fayette EMC.
A funeral will be held at Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church on Monday, beginning at 2 p.m. The Rev. John E. Evans will officiate. Visitation will be at McKoon Funeral Home on Sunday between 3 and 5 p.m. Burial will be at Andrews Chapel Methodist Church on Hwy. 70.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Allen, Robert Ayers, Harold Beckom, David Brimer, Melvin Butler, Darrell Sewell and Obie Youngblood.
Survivors are daughters Anne Hood Cox, of Atlanta, Judy Hood Key, of Jonesboro, as well as four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a neice.

Mrs. Theresa M. Davis
Mrs. Theresa M. Davis, of Southern Mill Road, Senoia, Ga., died Monday, September 27, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Davis was born August 21, 1952 in Meriwether County to Beatrice McGruder and the late Mr. Robert McGruder. She was the eighth child to a family of 15 that lived in the Meriwether County Community.
Mrs. Davis, who was affectionately known as "Pigg," attended Coweta and Meriwether County Schools. She joined Rising Star Baptist Church at an early age. In later years, she joined the New Birth Baptist Church and served as president of the Pastor's Aid group as well as church treasurer and many other capacities.
On March 29, 1974 she married Dolphus "Panky" Davis.
A funeral was Saturday, Oct. 2, at New Birth Baptist Church in Alvaton, Ga. The Rev. Bartholmew Orr, pastor, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. W. V. Orr, the Rev. L. C. Godfrey and the Rev. Amos Alexander. Burial was in Sunnyside Baptist Church Cemetery in Greenville, Ga. Serving as pallbearers were The Highlanders Cowboys of Gay, Ga.

Mrs. Frances J. Head
Mrs. Frances Justiss Head, 79, a musician, pianist and organist, died at her home in Hogansville, Ga. Monday, Oct. 4, 1999.
Mrs. Head was born Dec. 5, 1919 in Meriwether County and moved to Hogansville to attend school in 1932. She graduated from Hogansville High School in 1936 and attended LaGrange College, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music in 1940.
After working in New York City for several years, she returned to Hogansville and married George Bruce Head Jr., who practiced dentistry until 1983. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hogansville and served as organist and pianist form 1946 unti 1998. Her daughter, Vicki Lynn, preceded her in death in 1985.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville. The Rev. Charles Ritter and the Rev. Marion Shivers will officiate. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Surviving are her husband, George Bruce Head Jr. of Hogansville; sons, Dr. George Bruce Head III of Gadsden, Ala. and Phillip Allen Head of Hogansville; sister, Mrs. Jane Justiss Casey of Clemson, South Carolina; grandchildren, Frances Louise Booker and Lewis Henderson Booker III, both of Atlanta, and Kelsey Lynn Head of Hogansville.

Mrs. Maria Anderson, 65, of Newnan, formerly of Barcelona, Spain, died at her home Tuesday morning, October 5, 1999 after a long illness.
Mrs. Anderson retired to Newnan three years ago to be near her family.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dave "Kit" Griffin of Newnan; son, Carlos Anderson of Palmetto; sisters, Mrs. Carmina Hurtado Arjona, Mrs. Josefa Hurtado Arjona, Antonia Hurtado Arjona, all of Spain; brothers, Mr. Antonio Hurtado Arjona and Mr. Juanito Hurtado Arjona, also of Spain; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Miss LaTonya Johnson, of Pitts Street, Newnan, died September 30, 1999 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.
Miss Johnson was born July 20, 1982 in Newnan, Ga. to Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Charlene) Johnson. LaTonya received Christ in her life at an early age. She was a member of the Sword of The Lord Ministries Church. LaTonya was very active in the music and dance ministries. She was a student at East Coweta High School and was to graduate in the year 2000.
A funeral will be Wednesday, October 6, at noon at the Sword of The Lord Ministries, 64 East Washington Street in Newnan. Bro. Randy D. Hall, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Gregory Williams, Bro. Jarvis Gates and Sis. Gloristein Arnold.

Mr. Bickle was born Sept. 12, 1934 in Rose Lake Washington to the late William and Elsie (Collins) Bickle. He was a life member of Ada VFW Post 9381 and of the Orioles Fraternal Order, Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Delbert.

Mr. Thomas E. "Bob" Hines Sr. of Meriwether Street, Grantville, died October 4, 1999 at Wesley Woods Center in Decatur, Ga.
Mr. Hines was born Sept. 18, 1916 in Coweta County, Ga. to the late Robert Hines Sr. and Mamie Phillips Hines. Thomas' friends called him "Bob."
At an early age Hines joined the Jehovah Baptist Church in Grantville. He met and fell in love with Louise Hill and their marriage (May 8, 1937) lasted more than 62 years. Mr. and Mrs. Hines had seven children. The first four children of their daughter Dorothy A. Moss - Billy Jr., Kenneth, Cynthia and Patrick Bohannon - were also like children because they helped raise the four grandchildren during several years of their lives.
Hines spent most of his adult life working at the Grantville Cotton Mill and at the Callaway Mills in LaGrange, Ga. He retired from the Callaway Mills in 1971 at the age of 55. He had a head for business and was always looking for ways to improve himself and to support his family. He wanted all of his children to get a higher education.
A funeral will be Friday, Oct. 8 at Jehovah Baptist Church, Grantville, Ga. with the Rev. Joe P. Geter as eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Alphonso Gentle and the Rev. Edmond Leigh Jr. Burial will be in Grantville City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael J. Dye, Mark Dye, Ira Harrison, Karl Harrison, Thomas E. Hines III, Billy E. Mrs. Hrizuk was a retired operator for Thomaston Telephone Co. She was a lifelong resident of Upson County and worked for more than 20 years with the Thomaston Telephone Company and then at Cooks Market. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Charles Beverly "Chuck" Soucy, 58, of LaGrange Street, Newnan, died Oct. 6, 1999 at Jekyll Island, Ga.
A member of the Newnan City Council, Mr. Soucy was self-employed in construction. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was born July 17, 1941 in Old Town, Maine. Mr. Soucy was married to the late Doris "Sam" Soucy and filled her seat on the Newnan City Council following her death in May 1995. Together they restored a Victorian home at College and Wesley Streets in Newnan and later the Parrott-Camp-Soucy house on Greenville Street which they operated as a nationally-known bed and breakfast before Mrs. Soucy's death.
A funeral will be held at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery Monday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. Dr. Joel Richardson will officiate, assisted by Mr. John Stuckey, Newnan Mayor Keith Brady, Councilman Dr. Philip Swords and the Rev. Rabun Williams.
The Newnan Mayor and Council will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Mr. Soucy's friends.

Mr. Hugh Dorsey Beavers Sr., 79, of West Highway 34, Newnan, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.
Mr. Beavers was born Sept. 26, 1920 in Newnan to the late John Atkinson Beavers and Annie Lizzie Luckie Beavers. He was the owner of Arnall Grocery Company in Newnan. He served 25 years on the Board of Directors of Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Cooperation and served on the Board of Directors of the Coweta County Department of Family and Children's Services. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan.

Mr. Pitts was born June 5, 1938 in Coweta County, Ga. to Rufus William Pitts Sr. and the former Fannie Lou Hayes. He was a retired forklift driver for Fort James Corp. for 30 years.

Sgt. Maj. Merry L. Christmas
Sergeant Major Merry Lawrence Christmas, 70, of Lakeside Way, Newnan, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 at Our Lady of Perpetual Hope.
Sgt. Maj. Christmas was retired from the U.S. Army. He was born May 21, 1929 in Collins, AR.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road. The service will include full military honors.
The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the funeral.
Surviving are daughters, Cathy L. Christmas of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Cindy Highland of Upper Marlboro, MD; sons, Craig Christmas of Palm Beach, FL, Joey Lawrence Christmas of Whitesburg, GA, Monty Christmas of Newnan; brothers, John F. Christmas of Maryland, William Roy Christmas; sisters, Bessie B. Gamber of Florida, Vernice Kennedy and Dorthy Norris, both of Louisiana; nine grandchildren.

Mrs. Mattie J. Lewis
Mrs. Mattie J. Lewis of Newnan died Oct. 7, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Lewis was born April 19, 1907 in Coweta County. A member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher and secretary.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in the Roscoe Community. The Rev. Felton James was eulogist, assisted by the Rev. J. L. Hendricks, the Rev. Rufus Smith, the Rev. A. L. Birts. Burial was in the church cemetery. Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.
Surviving are six children, Evelyena Jones, Ora Lee Shanks, Kather J. Lewis and Ernest Lewis of Palmetto, the Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Lewis and Shirley B. Johnson of Newnan; thirty grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
