Miss Opal Lanelle Cox, 75, of Medlock Road, Decatur, Ga., died Saturday, December 18, 1999 at Eden Garden Assisted Living Home.

Miss Cox was born January 19, 1924 in Cleburn County, Alabama. She worked as a secretary for Burroughs Business Machines. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Bosom Buddies.

A funeral was held Sunday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. Officiating were the Rev. James L. Sanders and the Rev. John Beyers. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Surviving are her brothers, Fred Cox and Gary Cox, both of Newnan, and Joe Cox Jr. of Sharpsburg, Ga.; sisters, Evelyn Floyd and Geraldine Smith, both of Newnan; sister-in-law Mabel Cox of Union City, Ga.; brother-in-law Raymond Abernathy of Newnan.

Little Misses Emily, Claire and Hope Edwards

Little Misses Emily Anne, Claire Ruth and Hope Elizabeth Edwards of Blackfoot Trail, Sharpsburg, Ga. died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999.

They were the triplet daughters of Pamela Joyce and Robert Jason Edwards.

Other survivors include maternal grandparents Gerald and Becky Monroe of Carrollton; paternal grandparents Charles and Diane Webb of Snellville; and maternal great-grandparents Ily and Minnie Taunton of Alexander City, Alabama.

A memorial service was Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at the residence with General Russel Weiskircher officiating.

Mr. Joe D. Landers, 96, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, December 19, 1999 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Mr. Landers was born August 2, 1903, in Upson County, son of the late Benjamin and Esther Butler Landers. He had lived in Hogansville since 1933 and was a member of the Hogansville Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Medley Landers.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Randall Hodge and the Reverend Ed White will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Pallbearers will be Nelson Martin, Dan Martin, Billy Riley, Ken Spradlin, Bill Sowers, Joe Hamby and Rudolph White.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Horace Todd of Jonesboro, Betty Jo and Kenneth Spradlin of Hogansville; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Marie Landers of Hampton; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons.

Mr. Herbert Bailey Ozmore

Mr. Herbert Bailey Ozmore, 96, of Newnan, died Sunday, December 19, 1999 at his residence.

Mr. Ozmore was born Dec. 10, 1903 in Newnan. He was employed by West Georgia Concrete and was a member of Love Joy Methodist Church for more than 70 years and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Freddie Fay Ozmore and sons Jerry Ozmore and Tommy Ozmore.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral will be at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery at 3 p.m.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, J. William and Gloria Ozmore of Newnan; sisters, Carrie Hembrick of Newnan and Sybil Scarbrough of Columbus, Ga.; daughter-in-law Fay Ozmore of Newnan; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jimmy David Williams Sr., 50, of Byrom Road, Senoia, Ga., died Saturday, December 18, 1999 in Harris County, Ga.

Mr. Williams was born Feb. 26, 1949 in Coweta County to Monroe David Williams and Annie Frances Bishop. He was a residential construction foreman and member of Tazewell Methodist Church in Tazewell, Ga.

A funeral will be Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan. The Rev. Clifford Harmon will officiate. Burail will be in Senoia City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Abercrombie, Curtis Giles, Chris Abercrombie, Scott St. John, Jeff Denny and Gordon Reese.

Mr. Truman L. Griffin, 78, of Hogansville, died Monday, December 20, 1999 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Mr. Griffin was born October 28, 1921 in Randolph County, Alabama, son of the late Amos and Prudie Hamm Griffin. He lived in Hogansville most of his life, was a member of Trinity Worship Center in Hogansville, and was retired from Motor Convoy after 25 years of service. He received the Purple Heart for his service in the 29th Infantry Division during World War Two and was a member of the Hogansville American Legion.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Sandy Yarbrough will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Thompson, Tom Bratt, Derek Thompson, Danny Arrington, Thomas Whitley and Van Jeter.

Mrs. Lucile W. Phillips of Sharpsburg, Ga. and formerly of Hapeville, Ga., died December 18, 1999.

Mrs. Phillips was retired from Thompson, Boland and Lee as credit manager with more than 25 years of service. In 1971 she was named Credit Professional Woman of the Year by Atlanta Business. Mrs. Phillips was also a member of Turin United Methodist Church and was a former member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in East Point. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Phillips.

A funeral was held Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home with the Rev. Griff Jones officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Surviving are a niece, Mr. and Mrs. Tracy A. (Camille) Tolar of Sharpsburg; nephews, Mr. and Mrs. James M. (Ann) Howell Jr. of Woodstock, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Mr. Merrell Tyrone Stephens, 50, of Brunswick, Ga. died December 19, 1999 at his home.

Mr. Stephens was a retired heavy equipment operator with Glynn County Public Works. He had made his home in Glynn County for the past 26 years.

A funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Ave., Brunswick, Ga. Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Harold McDonald.

Active pallbearers will be Edward Owens, Leland Ferguson, Paul Callaway, Mike Dashnaw, Robert Harrell, Phillip Owens, Jason Holmes and Ross Tomlin. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Horton and Elijah Axson.

Ms. Eva Pitts Walls, 82, of Bonner Goldmine Road, Roopville, Ga., died Tuesday, December 21, 1999 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

Ms. Walls was born in Carroll County in the Tyus Community May 24, 1917, daughter of the late James William Pitts and Lela Bennett Pitts. She was a retired inspector with International Latex in Newnan and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer Pitts, Olin Pitts, Leon Pitts, Clyde Pitts, Byron Aubrey Pitts; and two sisters, Lois Jackson and Bernice Smith.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with the Rev. David Shelor officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

SFC Henry W. McWaters

Retired Sergeant First Class Henry W. McWaters, 64, of Valrico, Florida, and a former resident of Greenville, Ga., died Monday, December 20, 1999.

Mr. McWaters was born February 13, 1935 in Heard County, son of the late Frank McWaters and the late Lillian Fomby McWaters. He lived in this area for a number of years before making his home in Valrico five months ago. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery with full military honors.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Willie Sue McWaters of Valrico; sons, Steve McWaters and David Wayne McWaters of Leesburg, and Michael Keith McWaters of Houston, Texas; sister, Mrs. Martha Brannon of Forest Park; brothers, Louie McWaters of Columbia, S.C. and Bobby McWaters of Hampton; three grandchildren.

Mr. Bartley Jackson Cash, 96, of Scenic View Dr., Alto, Ga. died Sunday, December 19, 1999 at Habersham County Medical Center following a short illness.

Born in Banks County, Ga. on July 18, 1903, he was the son of the late Freeman Melvin and Thodosia Perkins Cash and was preceded in death by his wife Lois Duckett Cash as well as six sisters and two brothers. He worked on TVA projects in North Carolina and Tennessee. He was the first operator of the filtration water plant in Cornelia in 1935. Mr. Cash then went to Newnan, Ga. in 1941 and was in charge of the water works until 1948. He was in charge of the water works of Milledgeville, Ga. until he retired in 1972. Mr. Cash was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church in the Hollingsworth Community. He was a lifetime member of the Georgia Water Works Association.

A funeral was held Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at Whitfield Funeral Home South Chapel in Baldwin with the Rev. Gene Todd, the Rev. Glover Morgan and the Rev. Robbie Bailey officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann D. Cash of Alto, Ga. and Eloise Cash Grenga of Newnan; sister, Emily C. Tidwell of Chamblee, Ga.; brother, Nelson Cash of Evans, Ga.; two grandchildren, Kathy Grenga of Alto, Ga. and Steven Grenga of Rangeley, Maine.

Mrs. Lucille Bryant, 81, of Stone Mountain Drive, Huntsville, Alabama, died Sunday morning, December 26, 1999 at her residence.

Born April 26, 1918 in Franklin County, she ws the daughter of the late Robert H. "Bob" and Ophelia Purcell South. She was the wife of James Ralph "Boot" Bryant. During their 63-year marriage, they had lived in Lavonia, Toccoa, and Atlanta, Ga. and the last three years in Huntsville, Alabama. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

A funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the B. D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, Ga., with the Rev. Truitt Brawner officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Ann Moncus, 53, of Luthersville, Ga., died Saturday, December 25, 1999 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Ga.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Luthersville Baptist Church. The Rev. Joe Felder and the Rev. Clarence Denney will officiate and burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in the Rocky Mount Community of Meriwether County.

Mrs. Moncus was born September 24, 1946 in Rabun County, and lived in East Point before making her home in Luthersville in 1989. She was a member of the Luthersville Baptist Church and was the wife of the late Roger Dale Moncus.

Surviving are daughter, Miss Dana Marie Moncus of Luthersville; sons, Joey Lewis and Keith Lewis, both of Scottsboro, Ala.; mother, Mrs. Betty Brooks of East Point; sisters, Mrs. Jane Pettachio of Tiger, Mrs. Edna Denney of Hollywood, Mrs. Gail Masters and Mrs. Lura Shirley, both of Mountain City; brothers, Junior Bleckley of East Point, Ricky Wall of Tiger and Jesse Wall of Wiley; four grandchildren.

She was a retired chemist for the Centers For Disease Control with the U.S. Government.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, Dec. 29 at noon in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with the Rev. Roosevelt Winfrey Jr. officiating.

Surviving are her nephew, Mr. William S. Wilson and wife Cheryl of Rockport, Texas; niece, Caren W. Richardson of Comfort, Texas; great nieces and nephews, Amanda, Andrew and Nathan Wilson of Rockport, Texas and Robert W. and Crissie Richardson of Comfort, Texas.

Jacob Metzger was born in Coweta County March 3, 1988. He was a member of Senoia Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his father, Bradley Metzger.

A funeral will be held at Senoia Baptist Church Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Padgett officiating, assisted by Dr. Watson Mills. Burial will be at Sharpsburg Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Aaron Geen, Benny Gee, Eddie Shumpert, Brandon Metzger and Wade Bishop.

Mr. Harry Glenn Mitchell, 88, of Fayetteville, Ga., died Sunday, December 26, 1999 at Christian Ministries Hospice in Griffin, Ga.

Mr. Mitchell was a production supervisor for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, Mo. for 26 years before retiring to Sarasota, Fla. He moved to Fayetteville, Ga. in June 1999 to be near his family. He is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Sarasota, Fla.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mr. Dorothy Mitchell.

Ms. Mary Ida Wilson, 77, of Newnan and formerly of East Point, died December 22, 1999 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

She was a retired chemist for the Centers For Disease Control with the U.S. Government.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, Dec. 29 at noon in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with the Rev. Roosevelt Winfrey Jr. officiating.

Surviving are her nephew, Mr. William S. Wilson and wife Cheryl of Rockport, Texas; niece, Caren W. Richardson of Comfort, Texas; great nieces and nephews, Amanda, Andrew and Nathan Wilson of Rockport, Texas and Robert W. and Crissie Richardson of Comfort, Texas.

Miss Allen was born May 21, 1922 in Cedartown, Ga. She was the daughter of William Raleigh Allen and Mettie Campbell Allen. She was a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church.
A funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 30 at Mills Chapel Baptist with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating, assisted by Dr. Bob Daugherty. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Boele, 79, of Newnan, died December 28, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Boele was born September 22, 1920 in Norfolk, Virginia, daughter of Peter and Geritje Sprong Goudswaard. She was a homemaker.
A memorial service was held at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Milton Winslett officiating.

Mrs. Mary Frank Chafin, 82, of Newnan and formerly of Covington, Ga., died December 28, 1999 at Beaulieu Health Care in Newnan.
Mrs. Chafin was born Dec. 22, 1917 in Rockdale County, Ga. She was the daughter of the late David Frank and Kate Pruett Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard C. Chafin, and her daughter, Mrs. Norman (Rosemary) McCullough. Mrs. Chafin was formerly employed by Belk department store in Covington, and was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for a number of years.
A funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Caldwell and Cowan in Covington, Ga. The Rev. Dickie Johnson and the Rev. James Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington.
Pallbearers will be D. L. Moody Jr., Mike McCullough, James King, Jimmy Pickney, Darold Wiggins and Stanley McKnight.

Mrs. McLeod was born November 21, 1950 in Carroll County, Ga. She was the daughter of Vertie Lee Williams Lowery and the late Henry Lowery. She was a retired nurse and member of Ranburne First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, John Henry Lowery and niece Kim Baughn.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at Ranburne First Baptist. Music will be provided by Sarah Smith. The Rev. James Benefield will officiate. Burial will be in Community Memorial Gardens in Bowdon, Ga.

Mr. James Richard McVeigh, 48, of Hogansville, Ga., died Tuesday, December 28, 1999 in Heard County.
Mr. Daniel was born October 25, 1951 in LaGrange, Ga. and had lived in Troup County most of his life. He was employed by MK Timber and Logging Company. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. McVeigh.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Tony Brown will officiate and burial will be in Hillview East Cemetery in LaGrange.

Mrs. Lorraine Renz, 79, of Newnan, died Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.
A native of Rozel, Kansas, Mrs. Renz was the daughter of the late Irvin Robert August Meckfessel III and Eva Caroline Sprier. She was married in 1944 to Eldon Edward Renz who preceded her in death in 1968. For many years Mrs. Renz was a librarian in Manhattan, Kansas. In 1986 Mrs. Renz relocated to Columbia, Missouri to be close to her daughters. She worked at Green Meadows Preschool from 1987 through 1996 when she retired. She moved to Newnan in 1997.
A funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church of Newnan with Dr. Joel Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
Surviving are her children, Patricia Kay Ludke, Debra Ray Renz, Michelle Evon Korem, Pamela Jan Prange, and, also, her seven grandchildren, Michael, Tralee, Erin, Lauren, Ryan, Christopher and Jourdan.

Mr. Hendrix ws born December 24, 1906 in Georgia. He was retired from Bibb Company. He was preceded in death by a son, Clinton Hendrix.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Friday, Dec. 31 from 6-9 p.m.

A funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 1 at 11 a.m. at Sargent Baptist Church. The Rev. Harry White, the Rev. Bill Dean and the Rev. Hoyt Warren will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Velma Hendrix of Newnan; daughters, Anne and J. C. Davis of Newnan, Joyce and Johnny Lovvorn of Newnan; sons, Donald and Anix Hendrix of Newnan, Edward and Barbara Hendrix of Cave Spring, Alabama, G. Mr. Edward Milas "Bobby" Steele

Mr. Edward Milas "Bobby" Steele, 61, of Fertilla Street, Carrollton, Ga., died Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at Tanner Medical Center.

Mr. Steele was born in Heard County May 4, 1938, son of the late Robert Lee Steele and Eva Lillian Steele. He was a logger in the pulpwood industry.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and William Steele, and three sisters, Mae Gaines, Ollie Hendrix and Rosie Lee Bice.

A funeral will be Sunday, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. at Martin and Hightower West Center Street Chapel in Carrollton with the Rev. Lance Snipes officiating. Music will be provided by Harold McWhorter. Pallbearers will be James Haynes, Harold Davis, Ray McGuire, Johnny Hendrix, Tommy Denney and Michael Denney. Burial will be in Whitesburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, Jan. 1 from 2:30 until 9 p.m.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Steele of Newnan; children, Teresa Patrick of Gulfport, Mississippi, Sara Richardson of Carrollton, Sylvia Murphy of Newnan, Gary Blair of Newnan and Ricky Crisp of Japan; three sisters, Clara Norton and Louise Spradlin, both of Carrollton, and Ruth Coggins of Newnan; brother, Joseph "Doodle Bug" Steele of Newnan; two grandchildren.
